I also like the part were Snail leaves one of his mercs for dead in Reach the coral convergence, with the scream. Then, Walter say "The Vespers left her for dead...it wasn't pretty." Following this, the other pilot says his payout will increase now.
I finished the third play through yesterday we need some ng+++++ lol jk but something in the future would be amazing I’ve missed this series for a long time and it’s better than ever
Doing this mission for the first time made me feel just hollow. This was a just a murder because of how easy it was. The student pilot had no right to be anywhere near a battlefield. But through management oversight, they end up trying to be cheap and getting a student pilot to make a delivery instead of at least anyone else with actual combat experience to ensure the AC arrived safely. Homestly a great mission to set the tone of the game.
Actually that student pilot was Supposed to be Gun 13. My personal opinion is that balam doesn't have a great pilot pool. Hell even their Gun 4 died before the wall fight. And Gun 7 is one of the bodies you find in the prolong. My guess is Arquibis is taking all the good pilots while balam's are dying left and right. As to why they are trying to hire a student pilot. That's all they have. His first mission is to deliver that AC. Then he probably would have been apart of the run on the Dam. Which in it self is an extremely easy mission with two other ACs. I think Walter knew that kid was going to be Gun 13 so he got you to "take his place". Michigan even says the Gun 13 spot just opened up. So there ya have it.
A good reminder that... just because you've fallen into the cockpit of a prototype mech doesn't mean you'll be great at it. Still have to be trained to actually use it.
Only thing I believe that you've been incorrect here is that "players will quickly forget him" - because noone, especially gamers easily forget how easy it is to abuse and harrass this kid. I feel like the point of this mission is to show those players who passed the first filter is that once you're good enough, you yourself can be a filter for other pilots. You can appreciate how simple and yet how powerful this mission is.
I’d also like to mention that in the next mission Michigan said that a new callsign for the redguns recently became available… G13. The student pikot was suppose to be G13 and tag-along on a simple dam raid learning from Volta and Iguazu. So not only did we kill him but we also took his callsign.
I used this fight as a base for a rather easy seeming side mission in a rather improvised Battletech/MechWarrior tabletop RPG for some friends. The mission: Ambush a mech being transported via overland convoy with very light escort forces. Just a Panther light mech with a trainee pilot and a few light vehicles, not that dangerous for a lance of light and medium mechs. The Panther's PPC did outgun them but said trainee had a terrible gunnery stat so the light tanks and APC's were more of a threat. While the objective was the destruction of the Panther the players did their best to try and get the rookie to power down and surrender. They wiped the escorts first and since enemy comms had been compromised due to a previous mission, they contacted the pilot directly. Que a few turns of avoiding the Recuit's attacks without killing they guy, well he lost the mech's left arm and some armor got sandpapered off and a lot of rolls and checks later the did manage to force the recruit to surrender. The employer was impressed about the capture of a mostly functional mech and offered half of its market value as bonus pay if it was handed over. Instead they negotiated for a pay cut in exchange for having full rights to the mech, the rookie was also later convinced to join the merc company the player were a part of. Unfortunately a few missions later and said guy was killed while assisting their lance and oh boy did the players go on quite a revenge spree on that mission and later ones.
The best part is how excited he gets when winning.
"i just wanted a callsing of my own"
Next mission
"I give you the callsing G13, a sweet little number that just became avaliable"
.....yep
That’s a great little detail
Funny thing is the way he fights is similar to how newbies play in video games
This is so sad. May Dafeng Student Pilot be reincarnated in a more merciful mecha universe
🙏🙏🙏
Granted, he shall be reincarnated to the gundam universe

If you kill the balam traitor first, the vesper's dialogue gets more frantic as it's just you and her. It's actually really sad
Look back and see what company the mission is for and then when we attack the dam they tell us how the slot for 13 just opened up

Great observations!

You are right I made this vid on like day 2 of the game’s release and it turned out everyone remembered this kid haha. I like your analysis too
Let's be real, this is armored core, in the mecha genre.
He's not 18 or 19.
Hes probably 15/16, or even younger.
Haha apologies for my sloppy estimates
lmao not a serious critique, I just find it funny how bleak the games can get@@ChumpyGames
lol no worries I understood, it was a very solid mech lover joke@@Ryzard
Gundam protagonist went into wrong universe by mistake. Consequences were dire.
I think a lot of Ravens in the AC universe tend to be underage. Corporate dystopia and all that.
This was the anime protagonist in a realistic envyroment

That sounds awesome and it sounds like you and your friends have an awesome time at the tabletop!
It’s because it’s the old gun 13 that we inherited
100% agree and your story telling is great as well.
I subscribed my fellow raven, happy hunting! 👍
Hey thanks friend!
Aaaaand subscribed. Brilliant observation.
