    From the never-stopping factory of Ian Dixon's excellent Modwave patches (I think he has an army of synthesising elves slaving away night and day like Santa Claus at the North Pole). Once again, many thanks. I hope those elves are paid well and have a union.

    I just found your channel the day before yesterday, when UA-cam recommended this Tangerine Dream video to me. I have been buying hardware and software since covid and one of my first intentions was to create some Tangerine Dream style tracks. Roll on 3 years and I've still not recorded anything, but I've had some great fun tinkering around on synths and I feel the day is now very close when I'll actually use all this gear I've accumulated to finally realise this dream. After watching many of your videos and hearing the excellent performances you've created I couldn't stop myself from ordering a Modwave Mk2 from Andertons Music yesterday (as if I need more gear!!!!), which should be arriving tomorrow! I look forward to trying out your downloads and finally trying to get my head around sound design, as so far I've just been doing minor tweaks to presets on synths. The problem is, with my failing memory I'm finding it hard to learn new things these days, and a few weeks away from anything and it's all forgotten again!! Fortunately, I can enjoy just sitting down for a few minutes with a synth and playing a few notes with one finger so even if I don't know what I'm doing it's still a lot of fun. Anyway, thanks for your videos and all the great free performances you provide to the community. I look forward to watching many more of your videos and hopefully retaining some of your expert knowledge in my tired old brain!! 😃

      Thanks for the comment. Once you get your Modwave checkout some of my sound design guides. I also am doing a live stream next month so it would be great to see you there.

      @@IanDixonTDL I've started watching your guides and I'll try to catch you live, but much of it is over my head at the moment. I'm currently trying to figure out the best way to incorporate the Modwave into my current setup for recording. I've got a variety of options - some require splitter cables, one would have me sitting on the floor and one would need a complete exchange of synths to record the Modwave! The best option would be if I could use the Modwave as a MIDI controller to play the Modwave Native. I could then just plug in the USB cable when needed and could still use the KAOSS pad and other knobs in real time. Is this possible? I don't want to go to the expense of buying the Native version if I can't use it this way.

      The modwave doesn't send all the controls, just the 4 mod controls and the Kaoss pad

    • @LezMarwick
      @LezMarwick 15 днів тому

      @@IanDixonTDL Thanks for the reply. The Kaoss pad is the main one I want access to. Thinking about it, I have a MIDI controller with 8 knobs that I could easily use to assign other things from the vst if needed so this is probably the best solution for me.

    I have an idea for your future packs: make a compilation like "essential synth sounds of the 1970s" or "1980s" - you have already some of those done like in Pink Floyd pack, this one etc. The contents of each pack will be quite diverse and will become some great learning material for anyone who learns Modwave. And will also be a great showcase of the synth capabilities.

    Great sounds Ian, thanks for making these available. I’m picking up a Modwave desktop module this weekend and can’t wait to play around with these sounds. Tangerine Dream is my favourite group and like you my favourite era is the 80s album years. The learning curve with the Korg wave synths seems a bit daunting, how long did it take you to do the samples? Just discovered your Chanel which is excellent, thank you.

      The Tangerine Dream set took a few weeks and I used all the built in wavetable and samples without any recording of new samples. The Modwave does seem a bit complicated when you first get it, check out some of my sound design videos which should help. I also do a live stream once a month where you can ask questions.

      It's not hard to learn, just a lot of features (some quite unique) that you don't need to learn all at once. It can do so many things but you'll need to try them one at a time and with so many possibilities no one should expect to try them all.

    These are excellent! One question for a Modwav Native plugin user - when importing, I get the message "Skip Facotry Sounds. This import contains factory sounds. Skip them?" Should I skip or not? If I don't, am I going to overwrite any of the factory patches with something different? Thanks.
