The Harrowing Story of an Elite Allied Sniper Unit | The Black Watch Snipers
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- This is the incredible true story of an elite Allied sniper unit during the Second World War. Black Watch Snipers documents the Canadian military experience during World War Two as seen through the eyes of the country's most storied regiment-the Black Watch.
Using eyewitness interviews from Black Watch veterans, this documentary covers events in the ten months following D-Day in June 1944, as seen through the eyes of five snipers who led the charge through Nazi occupied Europe. The snipers, who led their platoon to victory and survived to tell the tale, reveal the harrowing details of their march towards Germany, while dramatic reconstructions of the major battles bring their story to life.

The Dutch still honour the Canadians that liberated them like it was yesterday.
My Grandfather Liberated Holland, that’s how he ended the war, his regiment P.P.C.L.I “the Hasty P’s” was strictly to fight the S.S elite, North Africa against Rommel, Sicily, Italy “Bloody Christmas at Ortona”. He served with Farley Mowat and Mowat later wrote a book about it “the Regiment”.
@@kingrobbie1793that’s so awesome!!!
Just 1 of thousands of sad, sad stories.
Heros by far....
We remember their sacrifice for freedom today.
RIP people...
Very Intresting and sad
poor men, recalling all the horror. Canada's role in WWII is grossly and unfairly understated.
As are several others!
I could not agree more.
100% . Bothers me. Almost nothing is mainstream, you have to go looking for it. Even then it’s still hard to find.
@@jessestrong7269it’s mostly cuz of Hollywood in my opinion but fuk em, Canadians, Australians and I’m pretty sure all the commonwealth countries. We’re a great team, no one can deny that without lying to themselves!! Much love to my commonwealth cousins from 🇨🇦!!
I cried, for all these incredible men, that never came home. Saying thank you, doesn’t seem enough, for what you’ve sacrificed, for us all.
Me too!😢
Me also old chap, true heroes. I'm now 68 and lost a number of brother's in arms in the last 2 years, but compared to what these guy's went through....hell man...
Me too ! These men have seen the unthinkable and lost so many of their buddies. Realizing they where here in Belgium engaging in such extremely dangerous missions... it almost felt pêrsonal there cause without that we would be speaking German here. The reality of it is kinda haunting.
My last name is sharpe I cry even if it’s not my family
So did I. Only military service men understand.
The Canadians and Australians are always underrated and yet were completely INDISPENSABLE to the allies during BOTH wars. They were absolutely 💯 reliable and consistently excellent shots as well as being brave as hell. We’d have been nothing without them….. Thanks from Wales 🏴 UK. Your sacrifice saved us all - including my family who were on one side in the RAF and on the other in the Tanks.
100 % agree , Thanks from 🇨🇦
Kapyong, Korea
Thank you very much for the compliments!!! It means a lot, Canadians, Australia etc etc don’t really get much credit at all, it means a lot to hear it!!! Very much so thank you!!!
CANADIAN BLACK WATCH TRUE SUPER HEROES ONE AND ALL
This was beautiful. I cried, and no shame in that. So glad we had them.
What a great story. Sandy is a total legend. That took some serious balls bluffing the Germans.
These guys need a Band of Brothers series made about them
What an amazing group of brave gentlemen every one is a hero in my eyes. We owe these men and those who fought before them and alongside them so much for what they did and what the ultimate price was paid..
and what is brave about hiding and shooting another human from 500 to 1000 meters away. Brave?
@@joed1950 What is brave about refusing to watch the documentary?
What is brave about refusing to hear that they have suffered more casualites than any other Canadian infantry battalion?
What is brave about making it up that they were just hiding and shooting from 500-1000 meters away just because they were snipers?
@@joed1950 and what is brave about hiding behind your screen and criticizing those that ensured that you arent speaking German right now? I feel bad for people that are as small as you.
I stumbled on this video and simply could not stop watching… ❤🇨🇦 I’m ashamed to say I knew nothing about these men until watching this and I am so very glad I did!
If this doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, you’re already gone. Well told and well re-enacted. A fine tribute to a band of brothers.
Great video! I'm veteran sniper from the 1st BN Black Watch, from Scotland. Served in the late 80s early 90s, before doing other things. Proud to see you wearing the Hackle. Always glad to call you my brother's.
When the old woman sang the Hokey Pokey… that took my breath away!! What a memory….. 🥰
Here in Belgium, Americans had such a big impact on our people that since the war every region where Americans fought (and probably Canadians as well) had citizens who spoke some English. even in rural places. So much so we were very early to embrace English sung songs and had the very first European Jazz festival with American jazz legends coming over.
Amazing story that needed to be told! So many brave men, so many lost lives. Thank God for all those brave young men. My Uncle was 82nd Airborne in D-Day and The Bulge....he was lucky enough to make it home as well.
I cried too. My dad survived WwII, but I still hate Hitler.
What our boys did, it must never be forgotten. These were just kids who didn’t wanna die but still rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Go to France, see the graves, read the inscriptions, and never forget.
As a fairly new young Veteran I Understand the bond servicemen have. To see the remaining 3 meeting up after a long time and seeing the smiles on their faces got me teary eyed. Their bond and appreciation of each other was still solid going into the final years of their lives.
Thank you for your service gentlemen.
May you all continue to Rest In Peace.
As in all REMEMBRANCE DAYS we always say LEST WE FORGET.
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM (YOU).
.
Fantastic documentary.
Beautifully done: Possitively Shakespearean
These guys risked everything to save so many, these tales need to be told to everyone and should never be be forgotten. They were the real people and real heroes. After seeing this I shed many tears. I don't know anyone in my life alive now who I think would have done what the Black Watch accomplished, recent experience there would have been far too much talking, procrastination and nothing done when action would have been required, The end result being default failure. God bless you Black Watch.
It's good to show these stories, and these men. It is good for people to remember the sacrifices these men made for peace in the world.
I'm a Canadian and my Dad was in the armed forces for 25 years. I have always been proud of him and the men and women who have served. Several of my uncles fought in WWII, I only knew 1 and he was so quiet at family functions. My gramma told me he was never the same after the war. He sacrificed more than some and less than some.
Heroes all. Salute. 🇨🇦🇳🇴
Even though I was born many years after WWII, I have always been deeply grateful for the brave people who risked their lives for our freedom. It is not something to be taken for granted. It is also incredibly admirable for these people to share their stories of such hardship no one is able to fully comprehend without having gone through it. It is really important to commemorate these events.
A very moving story. Ordinary men, extraordinary heroes.
All men can only Aspire to be as brave as you men from the Black Watch thankyou so much for sharing this story sorry for your lost freinds
What an extraodinary testimony, but just so heart-wrenching 😢 May they all rest in peace.
Interesting and informative. Excellent photography pictures 📷/reenactments. Enabling the orator & veteran snipers. Sharing personal information/combat experiences making this documentary more authentic and possible. Fighting/perishing/surviving knowing certain death/debilitating wounds were often times possible. Yet still advanced forward regardless of the consequences. That's true grit style determination to succeed. A special elite group of soldiers. Mentally/physically/spirituality.😇😇😇😇😇😇
Absolutely exceptional documentary. I'm so thankful for what these people did and for sharing their stories
Really appreciate the Canadian content. Thank you. Hits close to home.
I had the honour of visiting Dale's grave in Groesbeek cemetery last year. As we rolled up, there was this snowstorm and we were the only people there...very surreal trying to find his resting place in all that snow in complete silence. I won't forget that.
I’m so proud of them. Proud to be Canadian tears in my eyes
These we’re the really extraordinary gentlemen. With this documentary there stories will go on and they will not be forgotten.
There bravery and sacrifice may/can’t be forgotten. These young men that are scarred for there life are brothers in arms.
May the rest in peace and there courage be not forgotten.
Share this documentary, so this story will never be silent 🙏🏼
The courage. And to come thru as decent men. RIP Gentlemen.
This is one of the best things ever put on the internet
Yes , as there is an awful lot of click bait rubbish .
Thanks for sharing this very emotional story.
Thank you all for your service.
Rest In Peace lad’s. ❤
Thank you for this fascinating and heartfelt documentary. My grandfather was an American sniper in WWII, and this also gave me a little insight about what his experience may have been like. Peace be upon all of these extraordinary men and their families.
Thank God these men were on our side..Heros every one of them.
I was born in Holland in May '45. My parents so gratefully told me about the liberation. This is a moving tribute to the bravest of them all.
Very moving. God blessed us to have men like that to fight the Nazis.
Darnit, made me cry. Bless you all.
We all cried. We're all human.
Absolutely superb! . I’m not ashamed to cry either, thank you for what you have given us. . God rest you all.
Thank you for this wonderful piece of history! Proud to have been able to hear their story! I pray we never forget the brave boys from WWII. My dad, my great friends; Navy, Marine, Army! All brave men!!
TRUE Brothers in arms
My grandfathers 3 older cousins fought in Holland. 2 died there, one came back with a War Bride. He never spoke of the war
I love these men. Uplifting, tragic, bravery personified.
God Bless these men and their families. The greatest generation had no borders. They saved the free world. Rest Easy Gentlemen. Your watch is over and is covered. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. GT Gibbs USN 76
Well I certainly don't regret watching that the whole way through, thank goodness there are folks out there than captured the stories of brave men like this. They were there when we all needed them.
Very poignant. God Bless the Canadian Black Watch!
My friends older brother was a member of the Black Watch in the early seventies before disbanding. He would come home from Gagetown NB to visit his family. He would wake my friend from a deep sleep and commence to demonstrate methods to subdue and nutrilize the enemy. LOL
I am proud of these Men. They are the true hero. ❤❤❤❤. Thank you for your sacrifices and service to your Country and for others to live peacefully.... RIP to you all joe!.👍💙
What an absoute honour to have lived in the same era as these heroes! May they R. I. P, and thank you all for ur service
a good watch, but it would have been a lot better if it was just the vets talking without the dramatization. IMO the guys are so awesome their own words are better than any actor
Impossible not to shed a tear when the guys relive their emotions and reactions when they learn that Dale died 51:17
Well well great to watch this ! I happend to be born in Belgium and lived all my life in Wommelgem where these men came trough ( 17.49) Still here today you can visit one of the many Fortresses around Antwerp, reminds us off the WOII .. thx to these heroes !
Thank God we are recording these memories while these few men are still alive to tell what they experienced. If we do not learn from history, we will be doomed to repeat it....tyranny is once again rearing its ugly head in all places, even in our own back yards...remember and learn...
Thank you for sharing this great story ! I had the honor of knowing 1 member of the Black Watch.... Tom Renouf. What a remarkable man he was.
Fantastic documentary! Imagine my surprise when it said that Dale Sharpe was from Corbyville Ontario. That’s 10 miles from where I live!
👍👍👍👍
Wow, just wow. we should never forget their sacrifice
History Hit is legit
Thank you so much for this truly great story. There are so few of them left now. I cherish their memory, may God rest their souls.
Thank you so much for sharing this heartfelt experience you lived! I'm deeply touched! God Bless you all!
Moving story more like this please
I am so baffled by their story of courage, heroism, brotherhood. As a Belgian i visited the battlegrounds of D day and the cemetary of American soldier. I did this bc they were a huge part of the liberation of our country and saw historical, military musea where Canadian gear, weapons, uniforms were displayed. But i never heard the story of the Black Watch before and how big their part was in liberating our country.
Great documentary, well done ! Loved the interviews with the Belgians and Dutch people as well.
This is the way all documentaries should be made.
A wonderful and thrilled historical coverage of thats special matters ( black watchs) sniper groups against Nazism invaders of European countries.....main purpose of that kind of missionary is toppled down enemy moral to lowest levels through terrifying un suspected killing of squad members and highly ranches
I’m still Cryin . Rip
Great Story, Good on you Boys 👍
Wow - just wow - enough said
“I’m old enough to be your grandfather now.” That line just hit me so hard…
War is a terrible thing.
Something that is never fought by those who cause it, for if it was there would be no more...
Great movie! Thank you.
A wonderful celebration of our Canadian forefathers... God bless you all!
I cried, I never do that...
Incredible story and well told, RIP Heroes!
Wasn’t this released a couple of years ago?
Yes, but it's still good! We have to keep the memory of these great people alive.
I was teary-eyed watching the documentary. Nice one! keep making such masterpiece!
Not seen this in years
When men were men....
Lest We Forget.
God Bless these incredible heroic souls. One and All.
GRATE‼️💪
My friend Howard was there. He was a very honourable gentleman. He always felt guilty for killing over 20 Germans many with his bare hands. He would lay in the mud all day waiting for the oppertunity to take out his target. He ate many tulip bulbs. He never smoked or drank after the war. He was a leader in our church. He shot a 10 year old Dutch boy on the other side of a wall this was his only regret.
Intelligence failed to allow so many men walk into a trap like that. Pathfinders and Scouts have very valuable job to do.
As a member of the Black watch I salute you gallant braves boys. GOD BLESS YOU
Total Respect. Words aren't enough here.
So the fact that I wish i could’ve met these soldiers while they were still alive but now I can’t all but Dale Sharpe died when I was 10 years old I was born in 2006 but hearing there story on UA-cam makes me feel like they are right in front of me telling there stories.
I found out that I was part German and my last name was part of the German and when I found out I hated myself for realizing the slaughter they did during the 2nd war. But then I grew out of it knowing that this war is over and now most of the ww2 veterans are either dead or still on that last moments.
Vietnam Veterans are slowly dropping my grandfather who I called Pops was one of them I was the last person he saw before he died and it was during my final semester of High school a few more weeks till graduation visiting my dad and my pops talked with him and on Sunday it was the last day I saw him alive at night around 7-8 PM my dad calls my mother and then my mom calls me to her bedroom and I sit on the bed and she tells me the sad news, “Your pops is gone” my heart shatters as my part of soul goes away. I knew him for about 6 years I’m 18 typing this story. He was my fav story teller he told me his stories that made me laugh and now I won’t be able to hear them again. I miss him everyday.
His name was Sgt Samual Muller Military Police 18th Brigade
Seeing these men cry made me water my eyes. Not a single survivor is probably going to read this but il try it anyways thanks for all if it werent for you i would not be doing what i am doing today.
😢absolutely amazing story . Feel so grateful will always tell my children what happened they will never be forgotten 🙏
DDay before and just after seems to have alot of misgivings for the Allies. Enough to say Germany must of had broken our comms, and had plenty of spies and/traitors that were effective... God Bless Us All Today! In God We Trust must be realized individually by each one of us. Whats it mean to you? To others? Being under one God has to have all of us contributing to this. Our highest ideals....
Thanks for your services and may god bless you all
Maybe now, after all these years, these men will receive the recognition they deserve. I honour them today as I have in my heart for years now: the bravery, the sacrifices and the courage. I salute you🕯️🙏. Me: born a German, now for near 50 years thank fully a Danish citizen. Thank the Lord🕯️
If not for the likes of Men, as showcased in this documentary, we would not have the freedoms we take forgranted today.
The likes of Trudeau want us to forget Men like this, that sacrificed as they did.
Thank you Gentlemen of the 'Black Watch' Highlands Regiment, and every other veteran that has served.
Lest We Forget.
This was a pleasure to watch, the fact they had witnesses to back up their stories is so rare, what a wonderful bunch of hero's, the real deal. Thank you Canada, you have proven yourselves over and over in every war. You should be very proud; I must admit I shed a tear .That scene at the military cemetery when the son said "I am old enough to be your grandfather " just broke me. Thats a hell of a thing.
RIP❤
Real men in war never talk about it and do their best to forget it. War is hell. No more brother wars. No more banker wars.
My grandpa and his brother were “Black Watch” romaine James and henrey James… ❤Vancouver island bc Canada 🇨🇦
