The bass is not messed with in any way, it's only been brought lower in the mix like with a normal bass guitar. The guitar vocals are vocals through an amplifier and distortion box. Check out the a-capella metal group Van Canto, they do something similar.
I agree that the guitarr at 1:50 is cool, but I doubt that it would sound anything like that if not post-processed. On the other hand a guitarr plugged out of the amp doesn't sound like a disted guitarr either. What we hear as "electrical guitarr" is more or less filters applied - and that could be done to any input. The bass sound is probably also a well planned studio product, but I think it would sound pretty similar even without that. It's all about mimicing the characteristics of a bass.
