This song is played regulary on Norwegian radio stations, probably the most played Zappa song. I just now realized this song is not as well know other places in the world.
Glad I had older guys in my neighborhood growing up who introduced me to Frank at such a young age.. I wish more people could actually take the time to "listen" and then they would most definitely respect what it was he did for music.. Greatly missed in many ways. He truly was a genius in every sense of the word..
Sadly in times of Spotify it`s impossible that a talent like Frank Zappa raises up to that experience and musical quality again. That times a definitely gone. And I was Part of it....
I don’t agree. Masterpieces and geniuses are rare but they do come around 😊 Times change. Art functions on a pendulum and taste changes thru the decades. Eventually people will get overwhelmed by the shit on the radio and decide to listen to something more thought provoking.
@@LeahsLover the crazy thing about it is, why I sometimes think that the creator of this universe must have a strange Humor... Back in the days, where a Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, dire Straits, Supertramp, Rush and many other bands made extrodinary music, the technical possibilities where weak, but the musicians made epic artwork. Now where musicians have enormes technical abilities which are so cheap, that everybody can afford, only shit comes out... Isn't that a Frank Zappa kind of Humor?
I like this song so much, it was part of my youth life together with the songs of Freddie Mercury, two very especial people of the 20th century, bringing so many different ideas of life and thinking to our generation! It was so cool, sadly I´m 53 years old now, but I had the chance to watch these cool guys, not live, but on TV and Radio! I think even the generation of my two adult sons still enjoy all of the songs but they have the advantage of Internet and UA-cam which we didn´t have and they are the best judge here, let us all enjoy life and let us all take care of each other, may God bless you all!
Piatequila, no the best years lay in front of us, today i saw the song of Bobby Brown and Frank Zappa again on youtube. Frank Zappa was so far ahead for centuries! It was my Generation!!
I remember a guy in high school brought Freak Out, to school. That was my first time I heard of Zappa. That was the class of '66-'67. I graduated in 1967, the Summer Of Love. Loved him every since
Well, Zappa played and composed very difficult music and good players knew that and wanted to be in his band. So he had a lot people from whom he could pick.
Well, Zappa played and composed very difficult music and good players knew that and wanted to be in his band. So he had a lot people from whom he could pick.
Zappa literally made Belew's career. He was playing in Nashville and asked his limo driver after a gig if there were any good bands and the driver took him to see the bar band that Belew was playing with. Zappa spotted a wasted talent and brought him in for an audition. Belew sings the lead on "Flakes" on Sheik Yerbouti. While touring Europe with Zappa, Brian Eno sees him and refers him to David Bowie who grabbed him when the Zappa tour ended, putting him on the Heroes tour which included Robert Fripp in the band, whom Belew would later play with in King Crimson. Belew played on Bowie's Stage (live) and Lodger albums and his trademark sound is all over "Boys Keep Swinging". Being with Bowie led to playing with Talking Heads which led to him doing Tom Tom Club with Chris and Tina; then playing with Laurie Anderson for her Home of the Brave movie. Solo albums and The Bears (great band - saw them in 1988 and 2001) and generally being a boss has kept him busy. All because Frank Zappa wanted to check out some music. In the alternate universe where Eric Stoltz starred in the one and only Back to the Future movie, Zappa went back to the hotel and Belew gave up music before he was 30. (True story: He was so bored playing in crappy bar bands he was going to pack it in when Zappa found him. I wonder how many other geniuses gave up from obscurity.)
75 Jahre wärst du heute geworden! Du hast die Musik geprägt .... einer meiner Lieblingslieder ist dieses von dir! Nun bin 52 Jahre, hätte dich so gerne mal live erlebt, Ruhe in Frieden Frank! 75 years you were made today! You've dominated the music .... one of my favorite songs is this from you! Was?
he was definitely a bit of both. He said the womens liberation movement was a fad because women didn't want or need equal rights. Just sayin', hes not perfect.
frank zappa was musician that righteously mocked. He mocked music, the business, and everything in between. I think that's why people respected him. That's also why his fans mock us by saying he's the greatest musician of all time.
nah, i think the blowback he gets is from people who are afraid to admit the implications of what his music can mean. That music doesn't have clear boundaries all the time and that other people's music just isn't as "important" as they want it to be. That being said, if you think its about debating whether Zappa is the greatest then you've missed the point and its irrelevant. You don't control music and for multiple decades Zappa has influenced music and literally a majority of people you do listen to whether you like him or not. Thank being said, there's just not many artists who have these types of songs in their repertoire next to the "important" music that he does make, such as you'd find on Yellow Shark and stuff with entire wind ensembles/orchestra's.
Talent, Intellect, Deviancy, and Eccentricity....Zappa.... Playing with the most amazing Musicians at any given Time. "Stevie Spanks It" :) Oh yeah...Miss the Material, Although, Frank's son, Dweezel, is performing now as "Zappa Plays Zappa." I'd Fulljoy to catch Them Live.

I hope we have a musician like this again soon. i heard this song and I was like "wow this was hilarious, but there is something sincere about it which makes it kinda crazy". it felt so applicable to our times, but I think that is because the 70's were just as crazy as today is.
This song makes me want to cry. So emotional, so powerful, so poetic. The way he stops to read the note with the brassiere... just poetic.
😭😭😭
Booby brown
i d like read the lyrics
I love his bass baritone voice.
kkkfts same. He’s a fucking entity he wasn’t real
Me too
You gotta give Frank Zappa respect for reading the note that the fan threw on stage. Not many artist would do that. RIP Frank Zappa!
And then bust right back into the song with a large backing band. Im[possible if youre not a fuckin G like Frank.
Staged?

Such a perfect performer he was. Truly missed. Beautiful lyrics and a beautiful personality.
Frank always seems to be enjoying himself on stage, i really miss him.
I love the bass in this.
O'Hearn's bass sound during this concern was unreal

Classic lyrics, actually incredibly accurate when you think of the wolf of wall street kind of shit.
I never knew Adrian Belew played with Zappa. God, what a talent sponge.
Well, Zappa played and composed very difficult music and good players knew that and wanted to be in his band. So he had a lot people from whom he could pick.
