This is one trick that most people forget when bass fishing with a fluke. When rigging a fluke you have got to do this. #bassfishing #outdoors #fishing
Wanna blow your mind? Rig the fluke SIDEWAYS! The bait will actually glide on it's side farther than rigging the conventional way and look like a dying bait fish. Also don't throw away your torn up flukes till you try this first! Rig your torn up baits WACKY style with a small circle hook and short twitch it then let it die... You can thank me later 😅
@@brianrodgers409 take a lighter to your torn baits till the start to melt then pinch them with needle nose pliers or a glove to mend the tare. The will work on most but not all soft plastic baits.
That's cool ah I thought I was the only one to ever try this it's definitely not something I do a lot but I was throwing a fluke Texas rigged and my brother was throwing a wacky rig with senkos and I broke off my last hook so I tied a wacky hook on and put a fluke on it just to see if it would work and sure enough I ended up catching 4 bass that way to end my day off it was cool ah and they were samckin it hard ah for some reason
I read this about 10min. from launching the kayak. So I tried it.... and buddy you're right. So thanks right now! Gotta go try this action out so I'm gone. Try it out y'all what that fluke does is pretty cool and unpredictable. It looks realistic as can be.
Or use better flukes. Use the 6th sense flush---best fluke ive ever used (im not affiliated or sponsored by them) but it has a split fin on top where the hook tip rests, split down underside to go in, and side fins and a sideways fin on tail. The flush does something no other fluke does except maybe the dolive fluke style bait--- that is, as it falls, it stays perfectly horizontal, and it shimmys just like a senko does. So it can be fished where u just let it fall and shimmy, or you can fish it like a soft jerkbait, and when you pause between jerks, it shimmys.
I thought that too but just depends on where you are fishing if you are in a lake that's getting fished a lot then yeah id rig it as perfect as you can but I've fished over 100 ponds in kansas and missouri and now I've realized it doesn't matter how ya rig something if you are fishing a pond they will take anything.
So true! If you hook it straight, it has the best action of any lure out there but if you hook it crooked it just spins, twists up your line and looks dumb. 😄
4/0 offset hook? I did fish that today on Nolin River Lake and caught two big ones. 4/0 gamakastu ewg didnt work well after catching two. I going to try this tip
Where was this video at 20 years ago when I was trying to figure this out.?? I would get SO Mad 🤬🤬🤬 rigging these things getting twisted line and cussing. Of course now after rigging thousands of these I can do it perfect where you get the dart left/right with every snap of the line.
I like the traditional way, but I like the banjo style with the fluke also. And sometimes I just reel it in traditional style and tap my rod with my index finger at the same time.
I've tried both ways on my donkey rig and my experience is better when flukes stay mid column or bottom. I've had them come up like feeding baitfish and nathan.
I find the best way to rig a fluke or senko is to rig it straight sure, but only lightly skin hook it by... just ....burying the barb in the belly. The hook pops out on the strike and the fish basically hooks itself - the lure also lasts longer. Thanks for sharing
Bullet weight ruins the fluke action ime. I've used a weighted hook w success before though. I wanna try the nail weight as I recently heard/seen how to do that but I need to order some
I have to disagree with going in with the hook at a DOWNWARD angle. Always go straight in with no angle at all. When rigged 'Tex-posed', if you put the hook in at a DOWNWARD angle, the hook point comes out the back at an UPWARD angle, making it more prone to snagging. When you put the hook straight in, the hook point rides perfectly parallel to the fluke's back, making it not only more weedless, but also more natural in the water. I've been throwing flukes since 1988; you're wrong on this one!
I'm a master of the fluke on lake of the Ozarks in July first part of August when it looks like it's raining at night on the lake but it's all small shad same color same hook Texas rigged minus any weights, but I found it better to completely cover the fluke all the way past the knot. FYI I LIVED HERE MY WHOLE LIFE AND I'VE HELPED B.A.S.S. PROS RUN THE TOURNEY HERE
Can't say I've ever tried keeping the hook eye out (from being burried) in the fluke - might have to give it a whirl - a time and a place for everything I typically always use a 3/0 gamagatsu if i want the zoom fluke to stall/suspend/twitch in place & for largemouth thanks to a guide in Texas, keep the staight hook (technically offset like in the video) burried (so much more versatile with any kind lf weeds/sticks/cover)
I rig mine upside down when fishing the Flint River in Georgia for Shoal Bass. Time and time again, had them hit it upside down but not right side up. Thought it was silly at first, but been doing it for years now.
I like going a bit deeper so i can bury my knot in the fluke head. But center is important regardless, especially runniny flouro, mono, or poly. Itll line twist if not rig centered
I litterally fish this same bait for so many years. Just caught a 25 inch brown trout in a shit creek with a identical white one. I used to rig mine the same way but eventually switched to the screw in hooks a few years back. Also recently started fishing them deep with weighted hooks and have had success.
You ever fish a drop shot rig with a fluke? Tie your hook onto your like but leave an 18+ inch tag line. Pinch two to 3 small split shot to the bottom of the tag line and rig the fluke as normal or on it’s side. Fishing it this way keeps the bait within striking distance off the bottom . And most times if the weights get hung they just pull off the line and you get to keep your rig.
I drop the eye right bellow the bait so the hook sits further back and ive had better luck. Its also more weedless and catches less debris from the topwater.
Flukes look so insane in the water. Like i swear if i was bass id fall for it 🤷♂️
Have you seen the double fluke set up? It’s insane
Yes that's the truth, have you ever seen a watermelon seed colored fluke in clear water, it looks identical to a green sunfish
Yeah I seen those! And the fluke Jr's are My go too. The white silver sparkle
Going to try this
I do this after I've caught a few and my hole where the point of the hook gets too blowed out.
@@brianrodgers409 take a lighter to your torn baits till the start to melt then pinch them with needle nose pliers or a glove to mend the tare. The will work on most but not all soft plastic baits.

You got me to fishing flukes with an offset round bend hook, instead of an EWG. Years ago watching your channel got me rigging them that way...
I was about to argue with keeping the eye out of the bait...then I remembered I'm talking to the master of flukes 😅
Thanks for the tips pops!! Center of the fluke!!
Glad to help
If I put a drop shot weight on it will it mess with the action? I'm thinking it'll just be able to go deeper and cast farther.

short, sweet, and simple
What sizi is that hook? Nice
Just hook and the fluke no weight??
Great video thanks 😊
Do you like an ewg or straight shank better ?
Offset Round Bend
Thank you mr fluke master! Is there any reason in particular you like one over the other?
@@Flukemasterthis tip has helped me drastically increase my hook:land ratio with a fluke!!! Thank you!!
4/0 offset round bend!!

I need an explanation on where you buy a full pack of straight flukes!
I have had to buy 5-6 packs to make one full pack that weren't all kinked up 😂
You should watch this video. ua-cam.com/video/f230f6zDyEY/v-deo.html
Just lay 'em in the sun.
Go DAWGS!!
Caught tones of bass and my PB speckled trout on a ZOOM Fluke in (white ice) color. I’ll continue to use em !
An hour no bite throw a live minnow on a hook you catch 3 in that amount of time
I've thrown pieces of tail and caught monsters on good days. Other days it didn't matter what I did.
Love this bait, same color too, slay them pigs
Hook it on the side. Better action.
Should i not put these on jigs? Also wish me luck cuz shits hard! 😂
Nope. You can do anything with a fluke. This is just the way I do it when covering a lot of water.
Or just buy hooks with screw locks and boom problem solved
wrong wrong wrong
duh
So true! If you hook it straight, it has the best action of any lure out there but if you hook it crooked it just spins, twists up your line and looks dumb. 😄
Exactly
I'm just the opposite. I like nothing but line coming out of my fluke. Otherwise it'll catch vegetation
A fluke is very versatile in different ways of fishing it.
You can even let it sink to the bottom and pull it up a few inches and let it set. It's what I call dead sticking
Make sure to really set the hook! I would use a hook, with a larger gap for more surface area, for when the fish bites. 🤷🏼♂️
that’s fluking crazy 😆
The tip of my fluke is always bent and part of the hook is sticking out.
Always caught fish with it but it isnt oretty like yours.
Nor is it weedless.
4/0 offset hook? I did fish that today on Nolin River Lake and caught two big ones. 4/0 gamakastu ewg didnt work well after catching two. I going to try this tip
You ever fish a loop knot? It's awesome
This is great information. I always thought that the Texas rig had the hook come out then back in. Your set up looks so much better
Where was this video at 20 years ago when I was trying to figure this out.??
I would get SO Mad 🤬🤬🤬 rigging these things getting twisted line and cussing. Of course now after rigging thousands of these I can do it perfect where you get the dart left/right with every snap of the line.
I'm curious; why must the eye be outside thought? If the alignment is kept straight, would it matter?
It would be so much easier to take you seriously if that hat had an A on it!!! Roll Tide, great videos!!!
Thank you! What size hook are you using?
I agree I want to know!
I noticed the video cut. Didn’t get it on the first time, eh? That’s ok, most people don’t haha.
First off, I would have went with the EWG.
What size hook you have right there?
Ok now what do I do about my small tag end grabbing all the grass cause I left the eye of the hook out ?
A fluke is a flounder. So, what's your game?
With the stubble he looks like a happier, fatter Arthur Morgan! 😂 Lenny my boi!!
How come you don’t want the eye of the hook to be somewhat buried in the head of the bait?
I like the traditional way, but I like the banjo style with the fluke also. And sometimes I just reel it in traditional style and tap my rod with my index finger at the same time.
Can someone explain why having the eye out of the bait is better?
Say is your name Freddy? Austin asking.
Your good I’m just a lil better nice try
What type of rod would be best for fluke?
My first boat was named ‘Fluken Crazy’ the fluke was my favorite bait but I don’t fish much anymore. 😢
That's cool. Mine was named "The Other Woman" but my wife made me change it. So then it was called "The Office"
It’s not that important just go fishing 😂
Love your choice of hook! Too many lost fish on a EWG hook
If you get a good hook set it doesn’t matter I’ve caught hundreds of fish on a ewg and barley lose any and I only lose them if I get a bad hook set
EWG is great for smallies in open water, for largemouth in cover the ways he's doing it is best (never tried the eye of the hook exposed though)
@@ericklemm1652 don't know what you're missing
Been rigging these like this since 2004.
Twist locs work great!!
Hey, so I was watching this on the water and was curious. Why do you use the swivel? To prevent line twists?
That and to give it a little more weight so I can work it faster without it coming to the surface.
Don’t forget to dip it in the color stuff
JJ's Magic bro. It's the best
@@Flukemasterwhat makes JJs better than spike it just wondering whats the big difference.
anyone know the weight of the lure? i have basically given up on these artificial lures because jigging is virtually impossible where i live
I've always cheated and added a small split ring on the hook. The action is awesome that way...
I like that idea!!
I’ve caught multiple huge bass with the eye in the hook , sooo don’t know what this dude is talking about
You’d have to watch the whole video on my channel to understand why. It’s to achieve a specific action
Not named fluke master for no reason
Boy look like Kevin Spacey
I stuff the eye in the bait and it gives it's type of action that makes it pop out the water like a feeding bait fish.
I get a lot more bites when it's not popping out of the water.
@@Flukemaster I mainly do this at ponds.
I've tried both ways on my donkey rig and my experience is better when flukes stay mid column or bottom. I've had them come up like feeding baitfish and nathan.
@@nunyaBizznizfoo I do it when I'm fishing shallow banks.

Just wacky rig it
Thank you
The hook actually has to be sticking out a little though.. otherwise when you try and set it, you’ll just pull it out
Do you throw it bare? Or a bullet or some weight? Can’t use anything to light where I’m at to much wind.
Drop shot if your fishing deep or use a nail weight in the body. But fishing shallow just the hook is all you need.
Bullet weight ruins the fluke action ime. I've used a weighted hook w success before though. I wanna try the nail weight as I recently heard/seen how to do that but I need to order some

Use the fluke upside down sometimes. Clear open water weightless on a 5/0 ewg. They smoke it.
I rig mine upside down when fishing the Flint River in Georgia for Shoal Bass. Time and time again, had them hit it upside down but not right side up. Thought it was silly at first, but been doing it for years now.
SPOT ON ADVICE!!!
From an average fisherman & mistake maker 😆
👏👍🙂 ❤
I love fishing a jighead fluke for stripe and hybrid
Thanks, Go Dawgs!!!!
Have you tried split rings on the eye of the hook, for even more twitching action? I’ve had great luck with it, and a limetreuse color fluke.
I like going a bit deeper so i can bury my knot in the fluke head. But center is important regardless, especially runniny flouro, mono, or poly. Itll line twist if not rig centered
It also helps to throw a bass assassin fluke. Zoom flukes are good for trailers and c rigs. Weightless, you can't beat the bass assassin!
What size hooks would you recommend to use on a fluke
4/0 Offset Round Bend Hook
It’s amazing how hard something so simple can be 😅😂
and stay away from the damn EWG hooks with flukes!
A straight fluke is a happy fluke.
Exactly

Use ewg hooks for a wider glide and a faster sink
