Finally a proper m2 driving video. Great job, really shows a great perspective and gives a good sense of the drive
Thanks mate, I appreciate the feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
@@JOPOV of course my man! Would love if you made more of these videos too, should give a walk around of the car too! Maybe a drift vid would be cool
@@Userh211 I’ll definitely be making some more videos in the near future - I’m getting my exhaust modified soon so there will be some videos on that and definitely a walk around!
N55 is so raw
Huge props for getting the manual. A real BMW driver right there, no instagram automatic-pussy behind the steering wheel.
I could never understand how any sane person could order a small sporty BMW like an M4, M3 or M2 as a DCT.
Haha cheers man, I have no regrets going with the manual, it suits the car so well - Everyone who comes across it (even DCT owners) seem to love it and wish they’d done the same!
Strange, as a ruff guess 90 % of F80, F82 and F87 in the UK seem to have been specced with DCT. Maybe because most people drive manual in the UK as soon as they pass their driving test. So to us driving manual is not as big deal as Americans like to make out.
That probably plays a part in it for sure. Not to mention DCT is faster, more economical and easier to live with day to day.
@@Mac_F87 I think it's because, unlike the 1st comment, people realise that you're not less of a "car person" or a "pussy" for getting an auto. And that autos are technically superior in every way. For some the fun of a manual simply doesn't make up for the downsides.
@@B__L yeh man, you get far to many self proclaimed driving gods talking down anything but manual. They way talk they think they are Ayrton Senna heel toeing his MP4 around Monaco.
You did some subtle but lovely interior changes, I love the matching blue start engine button and steering wheel marker
Thanks man, the little things do make a big difference!
Great vid dude! Picking my M2 manual up on Friday 16th of this month. 👌
Thanks! Nice one, I’m sure you’ll love it 🤙🏼
@@JOPOV I test drove it yesterday and it was amazing! I have an m240i auto at the moment and the m2 manual is just an amazing car and there’s no comparison
LMAO 01:35 is when you magically teleported to southern Italy and the speed limit seemed to disappear all together. Props to getting the manual though, it's so much more engaging than the "auto" box. Drove a manual down here in the south of Italy where road rules are non existent and (once away from built up areas) i got to open her up. The one i drove had 18's with a good amount of rubber (fronts were 255/40r18 and rears 275/40r18 iirc) which made me feel more planted. The back end didn't seem as skittish as it would on the lower profiles meaning i could throw it into a corner harder and not worry about losing traction in the rear. The one let down i have with these cars (and cars in general) is this trend of all metal, no rubber which makes the ride quality suck in comparison.
Southern Italy is a quick trip after all 😉
Manual is a no brainer for a “drivers car” like the M2, I’m sure the DCT is great, especially on track, but I’d be bored eventually!
Good point regarding the wheel/tyre sizes - I’m currently running the standard wheels/tyres but I will be going up to 255/275 section PS4S’ next time they need changing. I’d love to run some 18” wheels too but can’t justify the cost at the moment, maybe if I start to track this car I will buy a set!
@@JOPOV Yeah, as my mechanic has on a sign in his garage... "REAL DRIVERS HAVE 3 PEDALS" lol. A good thing to keep an eye out for are the OEM 513m rims from an m3, they're a direct swap, 18 inch with all the right offset and you can get more rubber on them as long as your brakes are "stock" (blue calipers). They pop up now and again and are generally significantly cheaper than buying aftermarket and look like the car should have come from factory with them fitted.
@@dodo19923 Hahaha, your mechanic is not wrong there!
Yes, I have seen a few M2’s with 513m’s, they look great but seem very rare to find, at least in the UK! If I could get my hands on some of them for a good price I definitely would!
Really cool!
great video. I ended up going for an m140i for the longer journeys I typically take when seeing family but the more I see videos on the M2 the more I want that "raw" experience it offers vs the very powerful (get their without knowing power) of the b58. Is that a standard exhaust?
Thank you - The M140i is a good all round car, can’t say I’ve driven a B58 equipped car but from what I’ve seen/read it’s an excellent engine.
Yeah, the exhaust is standard in this video - I’ve since had it modified by ModStock though, sounds even better!
Does the manual have auto rev blip on down changes? Great video!
Thanks man! Yeah it does in every mode except DSC OFF 👍🏼
@@JOPOV thank you. What does the clutch stop do? I’m seriously considering swapping my Ttrs for a manual m2
@@STRampo500 It just reduces the travel between the dead space and the bite point of the clutch pedal, I found that as standard there was quite a lot of “dead space” if you know what I mean.
I’d definitely recommend an M2, very raw and engaging car but it has the right balance of creature comforts.
Really want an MT like you have. How does the shift feel? Crisp? The MT in the 140i was rubbery asf
It’s pretty good in my opinion, but I’ve noticed journalists also call this rubbery on reviews so you may be disappointed, probably worth trying it out before buying.
Nice video, what settings did you use? Where did you buy the Mount?
cvp.com/product/hague_chm_headrest-mount
@@JOPOV Nice! Maybe I'll buy it soon, btw, which Gopro settings did you use? Such as ISO, shutter etc
@@StockholmMotorsport They’re good quality, made to last too - I don’t know about that, just GoPro Hero 5 session with 4K/wide angle
Does the car rev matching?
Yes, in all modes except DSC OFF
@@JOPOV oh wow, thanks for the (fast) reply man, didnt tought id get an answer here in such a old video😂 but my bad, ive now seen, however i thought this was an M235i but its an M2. Saw on your channel you drove an M235i too but as an automatic, do you maybe know if they have it on/or Auto/Manual? Thanks alot man!
@@pasa488 I’m pretty sure the M235i ZF8 automatic rev matches and the manual too but I’m not 100% sure on that one
How does the M2 compare to the M235i? Looking into a 235i soon
Straight line performance wise, there’s not much in it… However, if you’re after a more dynamic and engaging experience then the M2 is in a different league.
The M235i’s are a lot of car for the money and a better daily driver, especially with the ZF8 speed, like I used to have. But yeah, the M2 is much more sure footed, controllable and “raw” - Not to mention the road presence!
The interior, albeit very similar is surprisingly much nicer in the LCI M2 (LCI clocks, dashboard layout, dry carbon trim and touch screen iDrive with Apple CarPlay) and makes a big difference!
In terms of running costs, you do pay the “M tax” for aftermarket parts. The road tax is substantially higher for post April 2017 cars and the tyres are understandably more expensive. But in terms of MPG, servicing and insurance costs the differences are negligible!
@@JOPOV yeah I think an M2 will have to deffo be a goal can’t beat an M car when compared to M lite!
@@tbri5511 Good luck mate, every car enthusiast deserves at least one M car in their life! 💪🏼
M235i is awesome but cmon look at them rear arches on the M2
What shift knob is that? It seems to be lit but doesn't look like the M Performance version.
It must just be the lighting/angle that’s making it appear lit, it is just the standard gear knob unfortunately!
Do you mostly drive around in sport+ or traction?
Sport+ almost always, I prefer the throttle response and overrun mapping
Is your exhaust completely stock?
Yeah it was completely stock in this video. I have since had a ModStock exhaust fitted, it sounds even better now.
Great Video!
Haven’t got the chance to test drive an M2 and was wondering what the steering feels like?
Is it really heavy or is it light enough to be able to throw the car about a little and have a effortless fun drive?
Thank you!
It’s relatively heavy in comparison to any other BMW/hot-hatch I’ve driven, even in Comfort mode, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It suites the characteristics of the car and the overall feel from the firm suspension/wide tyres etc…
Put it in Sport/Sport+ it’s even heavier, but feels better for it in my opinion, I guess it’s all subjective, you’d have to get a test drive at some point to be sure!
@@JOPOV Interesting, I think a test drive would be a good idea. To get the best feel for the drive. Thank you for the quick response very helpful!
@@kartikvisavadia7829 No problem man, happy to help if you have any further questions, just drop me a comment 🤙🏼
When was the LCI version released? Mid 2017? Cheers
Yes mate, most 67/18 plates are LCI’s - There’s a handful of non-LCI’s on 67 plates though. The instrument cluster is a dead giveaway though 👍🏼
@@JOPOV thanks bud. So, digital dash is only available on the LCI? Definitely on the shortlist to replace my RS.
@@v8griff It isn’t actually digital but it does look a lot more modern, really uplifts the cabin along with the updated touchscreen iDrive!
@@JOPOV ah ok. Is there any exterior changes to the LCI versions? Not up to speed matey 🤔 Great video btw
@@v8griff LED headlights as standard (option on pre-LCI), optional ICON headlights and LED tail lights as standard. See this: www.bmwblog.com/2017/05/11/bmw-unveils-facelifted-m2-coupe/
Not much really but it does add up (IMO) to a nicer overall package.
Thanks mate!
