When one student asked the teacher (nun) how God managed to stop the earth's rotation without killing everyone, she replied, "Where is your FAITH!" For my entire studentship in Catholic schools, that was the nuns' favorite dodge for getting out of the onus of providing answers to difficult questions.

      As you mentioned the rule on "slaughtering homosexuals" in the video, i thought i'd mention something that i have realized:
      It may actually have been a rule against Male Rape originally, and not against homosexuality.
      After all, the wording is "man that lies with man as man lies with woman".
      It is *not* "man that lies with man", implying it would be ok for men to lie with men ...
      Furthermore, there are quite a few tales and indications on how the old Testament semites treated their women, i mean, at least one version of the Ten Commandments put the wives in the same category as OWNED CATTLE ... and when Lot is hosting a stranger or two that's supposedly angels, and the mob outside wants to ... "know" them (assumably rape them), Lot offers the mob HIS DAUGHTERS?
      Do i really remember that correct?
      And then were the case of a man that let his wife get gangbanged, and afterwards he _chopped_her_up_in_pieces_ ......
      So, "man lie with woman" was probably *_entirely without consent_* but due to this not actually being spelled out back then, it eventually became interpreted simply as "sticking your dick in" instead, as they had no idea what was originally meant in the law.

      Fun fact; Cambridge researchers announced that they have pinpointed the date of the biblical account of Joshua stopping the sun - which they claim is the day of the oldest eclipse ever recorded - to October 30, 1207 BCE, exactly 3,224 years ago.
      This is from an article written by David Sedley so take a look at it for yourselves: www.timesofisrael.com/3224-years-later-scientists-see-first-ever-recorded-eclipse-in-joshuas-battle/
      See most modern English translations, which follow the King James translation of 1611, usually interpret this text to mean that the sun and moon stopped moving,". “But going back to the original Hebrew text, we determined that an alternative meaning could be that the sun and moon just stopped doing what they normally do: they stopped shining."
      This interpretation is supported by the fact that the Hebrew word translated ‘stand still’ has the same root as a Babylonian word used in ancient astronomical texts to describe eclipses.

That said, it seems the issue you have seem to be with the premise of a God, since without God you're right these things are impossible but I find many things which takes place in the bible to be improbable to have even been made known to the ancient civilisations and writers unless God is inserted, for example the the foreknowledge of proper sanitary and hygienic procedures undertaken by the Israelites in the old Testament which people in the late 1800 werent even aware of or the reason behind all the food laws. The Amorites were probably wearing some kind of armor. Almost all soldiers in the bronze and iron ages would have worn at least helmets if they could get them. Hail almost never kills anyone, but I can guarantee it NEVER killed anyone wearing a piece of metal on their heads. Also the shields they would have probably been using to deflect arrows would have been pretty effective against hailstones too. Even without armor, they would have almost certainly had shields. Even if all they had was a wicker shield (which were used in some places at that time, effective against arrows, but not much else), it would have kept them pretty comfortable in a hailstorm. I guess the Bible authors thought the Amorite soldiers were just naked in the field.

      @S Gloobal Let's just take for instance, the 2 most popular lies which people worship. Most of the world's population are either christian or muslim. Christians claim that Jesus is god as part of the holy trinity and that he came to earth and died to save us. Muslims claim that this is preposterous, that christianity has been corrupted by man over the ages (lies) and that Jesus is not a god but was actually a muslim prophet. They both purport to have knowledge of the truth through divine revelations. One god encourages drinking wine, the other forbids it. This is just one example of opposing commands. Jesus can't be a god and not a god. Somebody must be lying. We know by the doctrines that neither could possibly be divine revelations and could only be archaic lies created by primitive men (who only knew the most minuscule fraction of what we know now) to wield power over primitive people. This doesn't take into account all of the other lies people worship and espouse which contradict the 2 most popular ones. The overwhelming majority of the world's population worship, espouse and abide by lies. The world is full of arrogant, ignorant, delusional people and that is why it is so messed up.

    You don't have to have Faith to perpetuate a religion, as much as you have to have a clever knack for convincing people that lies are actually Truth.
    One thing I will give Christians credit for is this:
    They are some on _The_ best people at taking something that is obviously none-sense; & making a case for it in a way that convinces people otherwise.
    That actually is a very powerful skill for one to have. & Christians have mastered it.
    You know, if you're clever enough you can convince the world that two plus two equals anything but four.
    That doesn't make it true. It only means that you have power over people.
    This is why I say that you need not Faith to keep a religion alive, as much as a clever ability to convince people that lies are Truth.
    With modern Christianity in America, its more about mastering that skill, than it is about having Faith.
    -& this is _why_ I snicker when I hear the famous Christian phrase, "Well, ya just gotta have Faith!"

    Nothing Fails Like Bible History - Episode 3
    How much power would it take to stop the rotation
    of the planet Earth?

    m = mass of Earth = 5.97E+24 kg
    r = radius of Earth = 6.37E+06 m
    ω [omega] = angular velocity of Earth = 1 rev/d = 7.27E-05 rad/s
    I = moment of inertia = to be determined

    I = 0.4mr²
    I = 0.4(5.97E+24 kg)(6.37E+06 m)²
    I = 9.70E+37 kg∙m²

    KE = rotational kinetic energy of Earth = to be determined

    KE = 0.5Iω²
    KE = 0.5(9.70E+37 kg∙m²)(7.27E-05 rad/s)²
    KE = 2.56E+29 J

    For comparison . . .
    5.50E+24 J = total energy from the Sun intercepted by the planet Earth each year
    6.00E+25 J = upper limit of energy released by a solar flare
    3.80E+26 J = total energy output from the Sun (in all directions) each second
    3.80E+28 J = kinetic energy of the Moon
    2.56E+29 J = rotational kinetic energy of Earth
    3.30E+31 J = total energy output of the Sun each day

    The calculated number, 2.56E+29 joules, is the amount of rotational kinetic energy
    possessed by Earth by virtue of the fact that it turns once a day. Any mechanism to
    stop Earth's rotation would have cause the planet to lose at least that much ENERGY.
    Since power is energy per unit of time, how much POWER such as task would require
    would depend how much time is allowed to do the job. In a nutshell, the more power used,
    the less time would be required to do the job.

    To stop Earth's rotation within
    1 day would require
    2.97E+24 watts of power.

    To stop Earth's rotation within
    1 hour would require
    7.12E+25 watts of power.

    To stop Earth's rotation within
    1 minute would require
    4.27E+27 watts of power.

    To stop Earth's rotation within
    1 second would require
    2.56E+29 watts of power.

    For comparison . . .
    5.30E+24 W = estimated power of the "Tsar Bomba" hydrogen bomb detonation
    5.50E+25 W = estimated total power output of a Type-II civilization on the Kardashev scale
    3.85E+26 W = luminosity of the Sun
    3.31E+31 W = approximate luminosity of Beta Centauri
    1.23E+32 W = approximate luminosity of Deneb

      Holy Koolaid I appreciate the response. I hear you. I think there are silly ideas and weird stories in every religion/mythology. The indigenous people where I live believe all sorts of outlandish things but no one mocks them or tells them it’s silly, rather they “respect” it. When it comes to all of these stories I think it’s only really silly when you think it’s real. Seeing it as a story that holds meaning makes it more interesting. AND also held the ocean in place, AND held the moon in place, AND fixed the momentum issues with everything/one on the earth's surface, AND magicked away any other issues that come from stopping the earth.
    ...But if he could do all that, then why not just smite all the Amorites instantly and call it a day?

    I appreciate the research and effort you put into your videos, but you're a little too histrionic for my taste. It's fine to have some energy and humor, even a little sarcasm, in your videos, but you have the personality of a snarky middle-school kid that's learned something he can one-up his teacher with. You are not an archaeologist or researcher or scholar, you are lifting work from others and just regurgitating it on UA-cam, so I wouldn't act so smug and juvenile because academic work changes constantly. What you're saying with so much sarcasm today could be proven wrong tomorrow which is why most professional adults learn to control themselves and not shriek and giggle like children when explaining things they have learned.
    You are presenting good information, but you seriously need to grow up a little. This will improve your delivery as well as broaden the audience of your channel which, it may surprise you to hear, is more diverse than a group of purple-haired atheist college students which is what you seem to be making your target demographic. Sorry if it came off as harsh, but that's the way real life is. Aside from that, keep working hard and improving.

    I think this series is great and I've learned some interesting things but to be fair the reason there is so much wrong in the Bible is not NECESSARILY that there is no God. There may not be, BUT theoretically there could be a God and he/she/they just doesn't choose to dictate the Bible. Humans are therefore writing the Bible over hundreds of years and humans aren't all knowing. So some uneducated guy who doesn't know anything about astronomy writes that the sun and moon stopped and of course they didn't. But it has no bearing on the existence or nonexistence of God or gods. To be clear I am not saying God exists and if you prize the scientific method above other beliefs then you need proof. But I'm just saying this Bible story doesn't weigh into that, one way or another. I always figured most of the old Testament are to teach something like Aesop's fables. Aesop doesn't mean a fox really talked or anything like that. Maybe the writer was just poetically saying that if you have faith in God nothing is impossible.
