That was one of the best videos I've ever seen. Incredibly thorough & helpful I actually think jeep might have a chance if everyone followed your protocols Thank you!
Very usefull thx a lot! got myself a 2.8CRD jk rubicon recently. Mine acts like a water reservoir over here in rainy Belgium, so not having rain is one thing ;) but here it's just too much.. No issues, still absolutly love its capabilities,.. Thx and most respectfull greeting from Anzac territory Passendaele Belgium
thanks for the video, some helpful things I've not considered before. one thing I'd add is to gently soak the catch can filter element with paper towel, get heaps better filtration after doing that
It's not too hard, just drain the coolant and disconnect the heater in and out hoses. Jam a garden hose in the outlet and flush for 5min. Flush the engine and radiator while you're there. Alway flushed backwards otherwise you'll push contaminants further in to the core. Cheers.
One thing of note, I don't know if you've been told this but you shouldn't cover you're bell housing. If you're Clutch slave cylinder goes (i'm on my third) it will leak brake fluid onto you're clutch. You don't want to have to replace your clutch and slave cylinder. I had my clutch replaced with an excedy single clutch after my double plate clutch started going at 145k.
Yes, you're right - 2 things can happen - the slave cylinder could leak or the rear engine seal could leak. Both those things are maybes and i decided to take that risk over the certainty of mud entering and destroying the clutch. Before i made this modification I went through 2 clutches in 3 years, after i sealed it, i haven't changed the clutch once in 6 years.
Great video, i too have fox shocks on my JK. I just had them rebuilt and they’re like new again. It only cost $400 for the rebuild which is a fraction of the cost of fully replacing the shocks. But, hey you may want to upgrade to some 2.5’s...
I am going to upgrade the rear shocks to adjustable units. The loads i carry vary so widely, i think adjustable damping would help improve ride quality.
It's a bit annoying the fuel filter arrangement. It's located under the driver's seat, bolted to the chassis rail. Start by loosening the two bolts that hold the filter in via a steel U bracket. Then disconnect the water sensor harness. Then you need to undo the 3 bolts of the bash plate. Put penetrating oil on these as they are easy to strip. Then remove the filer bracket/bash plate assembly an just let the filter hange. You then need to grap the part on top of the filer with one hand and unscrew the filter with the other hand. It will obviously be full of diesel. Put the water sensor into the new filter, remembering to install the new seal as well. You may find the new filter is skinnier than the old one and doesn't secure tight under the U bracket. Just wrap some duct tape around the new filter 4 of 5 times to make it fatter.
Sealin up the trans is necessary thank to show in that to crd owner. How did u put the breather line?? Any Links for the breather itself...how come no trans oil comin out from breather??
To install the breathers, just drill and tap a hole where you want it at 1/4" npt. Then install a pneumatic push fitting and pneumatic tube. The breather is into the bell housing, not the transmission.
Good Video man, How do you go with Engine temps ? these things tend to overheat a fair bit I see you added a Pyro sensor, Are you running the stock fan clutch ? Also that Clutch/bellhousing breather is a Good idea !
Yeah, it's the original fan clutch. I've never really had issues with overheating. It went into de-tune mode twice in the pilbra but it was 47 deg that day. Once or twice its got up over 100deg because the radiator was blocked. But hose out solved that. Cheers.
Has any one else had the power steering feed hose and intercooler hose rub together and hole both ? Mine has. Look under you airfilter box. Its important as jeep dont make the intercooler hoses any more for 2008 ..and that world wide.
That's a great question. Anyone else had this? I do know that when I swapped my turbo hoses out for silicone ones i noticed rubbing on the ps hose against the frame. I wrapped that ps hose in rubber and tape to prevent it getting worse. 5 years on and it's fine. But i can definitely see hose rubbing could be an issue in this area. Cheers Jack
Thanks for the detailed maintenance tasks. I've recently purchased my first Jeep, a 2008 Wrangler CRD. Your information will be very useful. I don't have a Catch Can yet, do you feel it is a necessary accessory to stop excess Blowby going through the Turbo etc? Also, my Jeep has a 4inch lift, it articulates brilliantly, although the ride is very harsh. What shock/spring combo are you using? Cheers
Yes, I would highly recommend a catch can on any turbo diesel. It will do a number of things for you; prevent pitting of turbo blades, prevent deterioration of rubber hoses, prevent clogging intercooler and maintain efficiency, and most of all prevent clogging of the intake manifold when the oil mixes with the exhausts gas (egr).
Suspension roughness could be a few things. Incorrect coils or shocks most likely. Could be control arm angle too. At 4" you really want corrected, adjustable control arm. I have a rig walk around where i go through my setup: episode 1, The Unlimited Expedition.
The Unlimited Expedition what is the model number for that catch can you have from pro vent. I’ve been trying to find the one that suits the jeep? Thanks in advance!
Hey mate. Yeah seems to be ok, i haven't done much to it; just the usual, timing belt, water pump etc. I did change 2 injectors about 10k ago. Done 210k km now, going well. Cheers
It's been great so far. 190k km so far. I replaced 2 injectors a few weeks back, and one starter motor at 140k. Other than that It's been very reliable,.
@@theunlimitedexpedition9418 Thanks mate. Just wondering, does your jeep have an automatic transmission dipstick? Mine doesn't. It's capped and the cap says For dealer use only" which is a bummer
@@Daniel123Sicat my 2008 auto does but and a big but...the dip stick has to be tied into place. Just a running engine will flick it up clear of its pipe.
Hi mate. I've always used the red stuff. That's what they use to spec, think it's changed now but I'm still running red. Seems fine, no issues. Cheers Jack
@@theunlimitedexpedition9418 great thanks for reply really appreciate it ..if I flush the whole system can I use any antifreeze? because I don't know what the previous owner had in there and I wouldn't mind changing from HOAT to new technology OAT antifreeze any suggestion would be appreciated .cheers..stay safe..
There probably is. Wouldn't be a good idea though in an engine like this: the engine was s designed to run with egr. Things like ignition delay, flame propagation speed, peak temperatures etc etc would all be affected.

Can you add video for your major service aswell? Thanks

Hi Buddy ! What manufacturer year is you JEEP Wrangler JK CRD ?
Great video, about the catch, can have you install it or it is standard? Also, have you done any engine (ECU) upgrade?
Hey mate, yes i installed it - pro vent 200. No, I've not modified the engine programming at all.

How hard is it to get a 2nd hand jk crd
Not hard, there's plenty around. JKU manual (like mine) is pretty rare. They stopped the manual in 2011 I believe, due to the engine torque upgrade.
The diesel wtanglers were one of the most fuel efficient wranglers that ever existed.
Jeep made a stupid decision to discontinue it.
