Finally!!! I've been waiting for a video so I can follow you... Ever since I found your video for warlords I've been copying your stats and talents and huge difference... Great video!!!
can i open my rotation with fireball > runic instead of scorch ? and i always top dps at the beggining but when when i use all my cd's i have no dps at all can u tell me how can i sustain my dmg through the whole fight after using my all cd's ? great video btw keep it up ^^
Great video man, and am I the only fire mage who HATES rune of power? It is way to much of a staple and kills the feel of the fast pace/mobile flow fire mages.
an interesting interaction with cinderstorm and pyretic incantation which give a 5% bonus spell dmg stacking 5 times so if get a hot streak cast rop then cs and combust as before it hits making sure all hit u start with the max buff
a quick tip. if you have wriggeling senew you should allways run with cinderstorm since you want to line the trinket up with combustion every time to make that 2 million extra burst
well done man u are the only one described it right i was doing the same as you are, i got urself a sub please share more things about fire mages that can help peace
Thanks for the vid. I was wondering if you could go over cleave, 3+ targets, and burst aoe rotation as well? I will be main alting a mage for mythic + key cycling, and I feel AOE is more important for those type of runs. It would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Hey PREHEET, thanks for the video I had a question about sustained damage, I feel like the opener is very good on my part but I feel like I fall off in terms of competing with others in damage over the duration of the fight, what should I be timing in order to have sustained decent damage over the whole fight?
I think you're talking about the final Fire Artifact Trait. You unlock it by getting all of your traits, and then it becomes available (it's placed on your Off-Hand weapon).
from my understanding the opener is to pop your pot and precast pyroblast at 4 seconds, if you don't crit then use your scorch with your combust to get your free crit. You should use your RoP then soon as the cast is over pop combust then pyroblast, fireblast, pyroblast, fireblast, pyroblast, flame on, fireblast, pyroblast, fireblast, pyroblast, phoenix flames, pyroblast, phoenix flames pyroblast. I've never heard of precasting a scorch. The reason you use RoP into combust is because RoP will be end around the same time as your combust fades.
yo dude 855 fire mage here. this opener is a little clunky. it's always wise to start with a prepot pyro into combustion at the end of the cast. (castable whilst casting). then rune of power fire blast. pyro. fire blast. pyro. flame on. fire blast. pyro. fire blast. pyro. phoenix. pyro x3 then only use 2nd rune if bloodlust is on. if not save ur rune for flame on reset
Regarding the last pulling rotation, would you not want to get rid of your phoenix flames during your second rune of power rather than filler casting fireballs?
You can, but RoP lasts 10 seconds, and if you can filler with Fireball/Pheonix Flames weaving, it's a DPS increase (think of it this way, you use your PF like a Fireblast to guarantee a Pyroblast proc)
I dont understand, why are the scorch and the fire ball at the beginning while Combustion is already active?? Not feeling like i understand the class more then you, im here cuz i feel im not doing very good dps and trying to improve in Emerald Nightmare Heroic atm, so ill be glad if u explain :) If u just jump (after activating rune/combustion) on double fire blast, pyro, flame on, blast, pyro, blast, pyro and then u will have more time from the Combustion left to start Phoenix Flames, pyro, Phoenix Flames, pyro, Phoenix Flames, pyro and maybe will manage to get 2 more Pyros guaranteed crits (out of the 3) before Combustion expires compared to your rotation. What do u think? Cheers on the video.
hey there you left me wondering: isnt it better to cast fireballs on the boss till heating up, fireblast and then cast rune + combustion since combustion and rune have te same cd. will test your method tomorrow ^^
Combustion and RoP don't have the same cooldown at all, and wasting a Fire Blast outside of your Combustion window is a waste of a potential Instant Pyro.
When i do my burst i use a fireball(until it crits) into fireblast to get a hot streak and go directly into my combustion rotation and that way I never had 2 cast a single spell more than my instant cast crit spells 2 have instant pyros throughout my entire combustion. How is using an inferno blast outside of combustion a waste when i can use FB/Phoenix flames to get instant pyros during the entire combustion?
PF takes a GCD where as Fireblast does not. Wasting a GCD during Combustion is a pretty big DPS loss, hence one of the main reasons we have a haste breakpoint
Hey is it possible for u to write down the rotation only the spells u are using in the right order !? will me very nice whish u nice day and thank you :D
What I want to know is after your opener, after you've dumped your fire blasts and phoenix flames, do you just spam fireballs until the next fireblast comes off CD, hoping for 2 fireball crits in a row?
I usually drop my second RoP and use the rest of my PF's weaved with Fireballs. Yes you gotta pray to RNJesus that you get crits, but with the amount of Crit we should have at this level of gear, it usually works out well. Just remember to cast a Fireball followed by your Instant Pyro instead of dumping your instant-casts right away!
I've been having issues with flame on and my button press but not fire blast. I think it might be an issue on my part though. Try making sure you have it set to something very simple is all I can say. I've got mine on mouse wheel click..
Tell me what im doing wrong, i hit Fire blast twice, then rune, then double phoenix flame, followed by flamestrike then if im close dragon breath if its an aoe pull of 3+ . Single I fireball, Blast if its crits then I rune, combustion, fireblast, pyro, flame on, FB, Pyro, FB, Pyro followed by Phoenix flames typically
The problem there is you lose out on all the extra dmg you could have been doing if you cast RoP at the start rather than waiting for a crit. If your rotation is based off of RNG, then there might be times when your DPS falls when compared to others ( unless you have a high crit ℅). If you change your rotation slightly such that you force a hot streak at the beginning then your openers will do consistent dmg all the time.
So I tried out the rotation that I was trying out vs this rotation. Mine: Cast pyro at 4 pull timer Force hot streak with Phoenix flames RoP with combustion at end of cast Combustion Rotation DPS was higher than this rotation. I tried out quite a few times such that I wouldn't count the pyro maniac procs. You should try out whichever rotation you come across to test out DPS. and test it out such that you don't involve RNG. :)
So lets say you've got no fire blasts and you're heating up. Do you stop casting fireball to use phoenix flames, or do you continue your cast and hope it crits?
if you're close enough to the boss, you can finish your Fireball cast and immediately cast a Phoenix Flames right after and it'll hit before the Fireball, giving you your crit. Play with the distance and see it for yourself. Takes some getting used too.
this a tricky spec.the hardest part is not to waste any phoenix flames or fire blast to get the max amount of pyros. plus you need 50% + crit. then ur dps starts to look good
Why the precast of RoP and a Scorch? O.o Not saying you're wrong, just not sure why. Right now I'm sticking with the old Pyro+Pot 4 secs before pull (Not for heroics and normal mythics). I only cast my RoP once i get my first Hot Streak and I'm ready to enter combustion. So my initial rotation would be. Pyro 4 secs pre pull (my cast time is at 4.2secs atm) PF at the end of Pyro (Usually here i get my hotstreak, if I dont i use 1 FB to proc it) RoP Combustion Pyro FB Pyro FB Flame On Pyro FB Pyro FB Pyro PF Pyro (combustion is usually fading here) PF Pyro After that I use my second RoP and start the usual rotation trying to proc as many pyros as possible in the RoP window.
Using RoP into a Scorch allows you to get your instant Pyroblast proc quicker, and better utilizes your burst windows while Combustion is active. If you wanted to change things up, instead of hard casting a Fireball like I do in the video, you could go straight into using your PF stacks and get your instant casts off that way. But for the most part you want to get as many pyro procs in your Combustion windows as possible.
Also, in your opener you're relying on your hardcasted Pyro to crit to begin your burst window, and if it doesn't crit you're using a PF + Fireblast combo to achieve an instant Pyroblast. If your method fails, you'd be delaying your burst window and effectively, you will have wasted 1 Fireblast stack which could have been used during your Combustion window to get an instant Pyro (remember that PF takes a GCD unlike FB, which is why it's essential to have all 4 (2 FB + 2 from Flame On) kept for your burst. This basically allows you to start your rotation immediately on the pull without relying on your Pyroblast to crit.
Can you help me? Please I am having a terrible time. I am 849 ilvl and talents are just like your video. I open up exactly as you and get to 174k. Something is terribly wrong. I dont know what to do. Been working all day on it and just at a loss.
Jason B you just check icy veins fire mage openers. this guy is doing wrong. first time you open with prepot then cast fireball into rune of power. if he crit blast comb.piro blast piro flame on blat piro blast piro phoenix piro phoenix piro. gg
I feel like even when you optimize the rotation, you're still quite behind in dps, like 350 k with combustion is very lacking, other specs with similar i level deal like 500 k up to a mill while you're stuck at 400k at best as a fire mage, it's a shame cause its by far the most fun dps spec I've ever played, like it's not overly complex but it's also not brain dead mash buttons either.
Indeed! I just meant to make sure that no one was reading that as how fire mages should be opening. Nothing wrong at all with being new to a spec, besides maybe fooling people into thinking that you aren't. Blowing phoenix flame charges all at once is a huge mistake. A potentially better opener is: Phoenix's Flames > Fire Blast > Rune of Power > (trinket) > Combust > Pyroblast > Fire Blast > Pyroblast > Flame On! > Fire Blast > Pyroblast > Fire Blast > Pyroblast > Phoenix's Flames > Pyroblast > Phoenix's Flames > Pyroblast Last pyro should be hitting right as combust is going down, and you have all your CDs working towards next blow phase. I'm a bit curious as to why I keep seeing everyone suggesting the use of scorch in the opener. Sure, it's a fast cast, but the damage per second spent on it is ABYSMAL and the same effect (with better damage) can be achieved by simply using a phoenix's flame at the start (you can only fit two phoenix flame charges in the combust rotation anyways).
I like it because you get your Combustion's cooldown rolling faster. I've done tests with multiple rotations and I feel like part of it comes down to playstyle and personal preference. The DPS gain or loss across all of the common openers atm are marginal. Basically if you get a Pryomaniac proc in your opener, gg.

Please read the description. This video was made when fishing for a Pyro with Scorch was viable. I have a new updated video on my channel about the proper rotation using the Wriggling Sinew trinket.

Apologies for the intro being +1000dB higher than the video itself.

thanks man, great guide
Great video man, and am I the only fire mage who HATES rune of power? It is way to much of a staple and kills the feel of the fast pace/mobile flow fire mages.

which addons do you use for UI?
I use TellMeWhen for cooldown tracking as you see in the video!

I personally open with fireball when fishing for an opening crit to apply conflag to the target before bursting.
As you see in the video my RoP and Combustion still run out at the same time. No difference
whats the name of the song in the intro?

What is your Xmog here? Looks fire af. I notice you don't have it anymore on your Dwarf.
Hahaha, that's my favourite Fire Mage Tmog! It's the Helm & Shoulders from Blackwing Descent, with the Infernoweave Boots, and Red pants & chest.
Plus, Dwarfs don't look very good with a lot of Tmogs, so I had to use another one :*(
You should update this, the optimal opener is vastly different and I'm sure it'd be helpful to future viewers

Not saying you're wrong, just not sure why.

Buut how do you get the scorch to a 100% crit? I mean...it can fail too right?
Like I said in the video, you cast Scorch and use Combustion as it is about to go off. Unlike Fireball or Pyroblast, it has no travel time.
Aaaahh! Ok...Now I get it I think. haha!
Will try it out, thanks!
Im 841 at the moment and my sustain DPS is around 130-170k dps... Is that too low for my ilvl or?...
Does RoP apply to LB if it is casted after?
Yes, and I recommend you cast it after applying the first LB. It may tick on the spread targets too early if you cast it before RoP.
What the difference between fire and arcane?
Arcane is based around Mana expenditure and conservation while Fire just burns everything to the ground :)
Can you help me? Please I am having a terrible time. I am 849 ilvl and talents are just like your video. I open up exactly as you and get to 174k. Something is terribly wrong. I dont know what to do. Been working all day on it and just at a loss.

Did you find it difficult to level with Fire?
I loved leveling as Fire, it was really fun.
Firestarter is useful while u fight Odin
Love little tips like this, thanks!
firestarter is also amazing for leveling, questing, or doing world quests since you are constantly fighting new mobs at full health.
i see u have 9 pecent mastery why is this just for the damage increase on pyro during your burst rotation?
Mastery falls off super hard on single target. It's lost a lot of it's value since the pre-patch.
I feel like even when you optimize the rotation, you're still quite behind in dps, like 350 k with combustion is very lacking, other specs with similar i level deal like 500 k up to a mill while you're stuck at 400k at best as a fire mage, it's a shame cause its by far the most fun dps spec I've ever played, like it's not overly complex but it's also not brain dead mash buttons either.
pop 3 Pheonix flames rune of power into fireball combust and use instant pyro then fireblasts pyro spam
That's what a scrub-tier fire mage does.
being scrub-tier is part of the learning process! :)
Indeed! I just meant to make sure that no one was reading that as how fire mages should be opening. Nothing wrong at all with being new to a spec, besides maybe fooling people into thinking that you aren't. Blowing phoenix flame charges all at once is a huge mistake. A potentially better opener is:
Phoenix's Flames > Fire Blast >
Rune of Power > (trinket) > Combust >
Pyroblast > Fire Blast > Pyroblast >
Flame On! > Fire Blast > Pyroblast >
Fire Blast > Pyroblast > Phoenix's Flames >
Pyroblast > Phoenix's Flames > Pyroblast
Last pyro should be hitting right as combust is going down, and you have all your CDs working towards next blow phase.
