Hi there great review! I bought my Desert Sled just last week (after upgrading from a Scrambler Urban Enduro) I'm in the UK, ride around London for work and pleasure, I take it out of town on longer rides and some green-laning so I'm very excited to see what the Desert Sled can do! I made a few changes like adding Barkbusters, a fly screen and Ducati heated grips all of which are essential for riding in British weather on the Motorways. I agree on the foot brake when I [picked up the bike I panicked a little when I went to push it down and nothing happened until I really pushed down haha.... But it can be adjusted, I've raised mine all the way up adjusted the brake piston and it works and feels fine now.
Got one in September, 2023 Love it. Ride it on and off road in the UK, think filthy rocky narrow roads. It's an awesome bike, bought it second hand for a decent price. Put hand and engine guards on it, next job is a set of Anakee Wilds!!! Top review mate.
I just picked up a 2020 Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled with 3600 miles on it. I'm totally happy with the bike! Installed a new battery, replacing the oil/filter, spark plugs, k&n filter, tail delete, bark busters, rear rack. Bike was hardly ridden so I'm going to explore all the back roads as much as possible and will have fun on the ride! Thanks for ur personal insights on this bike. I'm 5' 8" pushing 68 years of age and will enjoy this Ducati Scrambler 803! 808Hi 🤙
Thanks for taking the time to offer an owner's perspective instead of the typical "test ride" type review. It was valuable information. I put a deposit on my desert sled today...
Maybe I’m just surrounded by a bunch of teenage hooligans on high powered sport bikes here in Orange County, but I find it refreshing to see a younger guy that actually doesn’t prefer that high speed, adrenaline pumping, scene I feel most guys up to their mid thirties even, jump into. Not hating on that scene at all, I like my fair share of speed, but I’m still a new rider at a year and a half now, and in my mid thirties (no reason why I only just NOW discovered this amazing world), and so I enjoy meeting riders of all sorts and getting to know people into different styles of riding and finding joy and thrill sub freeway+ speeds.
I totally understand that!! its hard to meet people as a younger rider who aren't into all that (that's why I don't have many rider friends) Glad you finally found the hobby :) Happy Riding!
Congratulations!! you are going to love it!!! my one gripe with my local dealership was that they didn't really make a big deal or make it exciting that I was buying the bike. it was just kinda like....here you go enjoy.... no pics or anything...
@@ElijahPorter haha yea I think these guys are the same. I have a V4-s that I bought from this dealer and pretty much thats how it was but when I came in for the 1st service they were pretty cool. But yea i totally agree, for the test ride i got lost in some "mountain" high road some really tight stuff and I had sooooo much fun!! I can't wait to take it on some trails
This is one of the most honest reviews I have found on the Desert Sled and, more importantly, focuses on real life questions around buying (and investing) in a pretty expensive bike. I am kind of new to motorcycling and want to step up from my 401 Svartpilen (which is a pretty kickass thumper for around town) to something with a bit more torque which brings me to the Desert Sled or a 701 Husky Svartpilen which is a lot lighter than the DS. I will have to ride both to see which one I opt for. If you know both share your thoughts. It was very good to know how big you are, because I am 5'10". So, getting my feet on the ground at stop lights could be the deciding factor. AGAIN GREAT REVIEW, touching on the real topics, and not some commercial BS. THX from Germany
dude, the svartpilen is such a sweet bike!! I love the svartpilen and the vitpilen. I was obsessed with them for so long, but they can be hard to come across in the states. I wanted to get one as my first bike, but it wasn't quite as realistic for me to have as an only bike (such a small engine and no real passenger room) I appreciate your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed!!
Great review. I love my 2019. We live in Germany but the bike will be moving to Spain (our second house) because you really need a small bike or scooter due to the limited parking in our village My wife wants an electric scooter.
thank you for the review, I really consider this one for a roadtrip across Europe even though the fuel range is pretty bad but I would equip it with additional fuel tank on the back sides. I just love the style and the great balance road/offroad
Bought a 2020 DS with 350 miles on it last week. I'm having it shipped to me so right now it's just vaporware. Ive sat on a DS and its a good fit for my 6'5" frame.
Lol. It's funny your situation is very similar to mine. I got my 2019 Desert Sled and love taking it around town. When I bought it, I didn't really think my wife would want to ride with me because she did not really like motorcycles. Now she loves going around town on the back. I honestly feel there is not a lot of reviews because this model is a hidden secret that doesn't get a lot of press. I do think it has potential to be the Scrambler lines most successful model after the standard Icon. You are right, it's not a bargain bike. But after owning mine for a year, I don't care I paid a premium for a bike I love riding and still gawk at. Great review.
The bike is awesome! I agree, it is a little hidden gem out there that so many people are unaware of, but for an everyday bike, I argue its one of the best. I don't care about the premium either obviously haha! Thank you for watching and supporting!!
Hey hey. Great video! Super helpful! It’s strange how we can possibly be neighbors. I’m getting my desert sled next week at that exact location lol I’ve been looking fwd to them restocking & having one on the floor for me to at least touch it but after months I realized that isn’t gonna happen. So I had to put down a grand to lock one in & get it in the store. I’m sure I’ll love it & end up taking it home but I do have some questions about the bike as well as your service experience at two wheel.
Awesome Congrats!! I haven't been up there recently to see the new 2021 sleds, but i guess they don't have them on the floor! When I bought mine I had to wait for them too. And when they finally got one it was actually at the Miami Dealership and they trailered it up for me so I didn't have to drive down to get it. They have great customer service, I'm actually about to take mine up there for another service. Let me know your questions!!
Excellent review . Thank You. Am looking to buy a '20 model for mainly riding around town. Low down torque for pulling away at traffic lights more important for me. A few reviews mentioned it lacks in this department ?. Booked a test drive for next week so hopefully can see for myself.
I don't feel like it does. Obviously it is slower than ripping a street bike, but I feel like it has enough power off of the line, especially after the break in period where you shouldn't go over 6000 rpms according to the manufacturer. I've never really ridden a super powerful bike so maybe I'm just used to lower power?? but I always feel like I have enough
Wow! I have this bike and was doing 109 mph on the highway the other day, without even realizing it. In fairness, I do have a small bug screen (I think they call it) but it is only about 10 inches. I have no idea how you came up with only 65 mph, before you feel it. When I did the 109 mph the other day it was only 41 degrees F. I was all bundled (sp?) up with multiple layers and a full face helmet, but you can do 65 in third gear easily. Yes, the 1st gear is low and you have to get out of it quickly, but from 2nd on up it has very wide powerbands. I did 105 mph about six weeks ago up a long, steep hill (highway).
I'll have to rewatch the video to see what I said about 65mph. (It's been a couple years since I made it) But I've had the bike over 100mph, but it wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world. But not unbearable. I do full face helmet too.
Waaah. Just bought a 2020 HD 48 a few months ago, but this sled has been on my mind for a long time. Especially since my Ducati dealership is about 10 mins away, compared to HD that is 1 hour. Don't know what to do now 🤯 just love the look of it. Think ill use the HD this season and then we will see
I have a soft spot for the iron 883 and nightster, so I get it. Two very different bikes...At the end of the day I'd love to have both, but ultimately I went for the sled. You can get the HD's I like fairly cheao on the used market, so maybe one day!!
Great review! I’m having difficulty between hypermotard and the DS. I know these are two different bikes. Im starting to like DS more since I want a semi Dual sport/adventure bike and want to stay away from the bulkiness of a BMW GS or other adventure bikes. Henry Crew circumnavigated the world using a DS. Amazing.
I love the look of the hypermotard and the performance and all that. I'm trying to find one to review because I've never ridden one. I can say that sitting on one is pretty uncomfortable. That's why I went with the sled and not the hyper. Even though I've never ridden one. Thanks for checking out the review:)
What an excellent bike review! Great looking machine. I'll have to check one out at the local Ducati dealer but suspect it'll be too tall for me. I'm 5'9". My Tracer seat height is already a bit tall and the sled is taller than that.
I picked up a 2020 a few weeks ago. My 5th Ducati. I have to say it’s one of the funnest bikes I’ve owned. 10th in all. You didn’t mention the ABS and cornering ABS. and that daytime running LED is really cool looking. And of course the off-road mode. Takes off the ABS so you can lock up the rear.
This bike has really smooth acceleration. You don’t feel too much power or not enough. It is simple smooth. This bike great for city ride that capable of some off-road. I recommend instal crash bars after buy any motorcycle. 👍 Note: Bike looks a lot better in real life than on video.
One other extremely important thing to know about that they won't tell you is the maintenance schedule and cost. The valve clearance have to be checked at every 7.5K miles. It is a PITA job and having it done at the dealership typically costs $1300. This is far more than most other competitors in the industry. Even if you can afford it, it still feels like you are being ripped off.
I got my 2018 Desert Sled about a month ago as my first motorcycle and have been looking for someone posting anything on it that's not just a quick review from when they launched the model. Very excited to see the vids to come. Also, your production quality is great! And do you have any more modifications planned for the bike?
Thank you so much for the support! I'm glad you enjoyed it.I try to put a lot of effort into making the videos as nice as i'm capable of, but i'm still learning. I would like to do an exhaust, and I am open to other ideas from the viewers as well!!

@@ElijahPorter Fair enough. Im a cash is king kinda guy. Negotiating now for a DS with 800 miles on it for ~11K cash out the door. Thats $5-7k less than new + financing for a very slightly used bike. Im a tightwad LOL.
@@KevinBarnett1 5-7k less is a lot I was quoted right at $12,900 otd when I got mine brand new though, so that price seems kinda crazy. The lease program vs financing wasnt very different, but this way I was only locked in for 4 years, and then I can either pay it off, or I get the 6k residual towards something new.

Im going to buy one soon. Im 5,7 and I think could be a tall one for me. What do you Think? If there is a way to down the suspensión ?
I believe you can adjust the suspension or get a new shock that would help. They also make aftermarket seat that can lower the bike by an inch or so
You can get a 1 1/2 USG RotopaX in order to extend your range.
thanks! I will definitely check that out!!

it is a tall bike for sure. There are aftermarket seats that will lower it a bit (which I would even like for myself)
I’m 5’ 6” and I can touch both feet. Not flat footed but no problems. I also have a 19 Multi 1260 and no problem with that either. Good luck 👍🏻
