Good review for a practical general purpose bike. Good enough for dirt roads , pot holes & corrigations. Anything more dirt worthy , I would consider duel sports or adventure bike. Still the best alternative to a 1200gs I have seen
Funny. I’ve been looking at the 701 for months now and like you said, after I found this thing I’m now at a loss. I can’t decide which one I’d be happier with. I wonder which is more reliable.
how much time will you spend offroad riding? if you do more tarmac than dirt, and only want to do fire trails etc I think the desert sled would be cool. If you spend more than half your time offroad and want to tackle more challenging terrain, the 701 will be a better choice. hope that helps!
plenty reviews off road - this is a very good one - the guy riding is a VERY good off road rider and really works it - ua-cam.com/video/BIpR3KpVHMc/v-deo.html&frags=pl%2Cwn
Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE & XC (Enduro/Extreme, City) fully adjustable forks (Showa) fully adjustable rear (Öhlins) color TFT display for instrument panel. I think there’s an inch more suspension travel on the XE vs the Desert Sled. Oh, and the front is a 21” wheel like a proper off roader. 😁 Likely a bit heavier but will do freeway speeds without working up a sweat. Not as nimble as a DRZ but not bad for an ADV bike somewhere between a dual sport and a BMW GSA. I’d say they were aiming for the BMW. when they made this one, and made a pretty good shot across the bow.
I think comparison to a 650 Vstrom or a Yamaha 700 Tenere would be more like it. That weight class and level of technology. More of a naked adventure bike. Add a windscreen and bags.. Etc.
Speedytrip thanks mate. Mic is a Sena 20S bluetooth communicator with a bluetooth backpack which connects to the gopro. There's a link to them in the video descrption if you want to check them out.
This was the review I needed, particularly the comments about road use. Thanks!
i'm glad to hear it helped you out mate.
good review - highlighting all the relevant points and nicely put - thx

The style of the bike you're on is retro to 70s and 80s Enduros
Great review, super cool bike. Might buy one, thanks 👍
thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it 😀
I'm sure it goes off-road just fine but how do you know? I didn't see any dirt.
I know right.

disekjoumoer yeah they should have badged it xt800. Thats my plan when i get one.
Maybe take the scrambler off road to test it and comment?
Nice enough bike but sounds like a knackered lawnmower on tickover.
Still might buy one but is it better than a triumph scrambler?
it will definitely be more capable off road than the Triumph Scrambler!

legend! thanks mate and welcome :)
Being an American, I get anxiety watching you ride on the other side of the road. It is messing with my head.
