    What a great channel. Thoroughly enjoying your videos. Love the idea of the manifold and exhaust you've fitted here, though I admit that I'm less enamoured of the heat wrap. I understand the reason for it but I do think it detracts from the wonderful clean lines of the stainless steel manifold.

    Nicely done! Love to hear the pops and burbles on the overrun down a hill in 2nd or 3rd. Have a SS system on mine with one box but single exhaust exit and I'm tempted to get it adapted to have two pipes after hearing that tickover.

      Yeah, dead easy to do, and sounds great. I’m really starting to love this MGB. All my other cars are how they would be when built, the MG is two fingers up to that. As I’ve set it out to be a rat from the start, it’s one I can really make my own with tuning and styling

    Steve, You're like a tonic that the Doctor say's "take as required" . So ,am l the first to notice that there is a problem with wearing white overalls! What price difference between this and the standard exhaust, and the heat wrap probably isn't included. Of course being very old l could always hear and recognise a "B" from a long way off, rather like a Morris 1000 or Jaguar mk2 so you guess my opinion! Enjoyed our chats this week. Nick lived and built the Spit' in Cornwall. Take care and stay safe.

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 роки тому

      In all honestly MGB parts are cheap, most exhaust systems are about £200-£300. If you go with a free flow manifold with full system brings it up to about £400, and heat wrapping it add £50. All in all cheap compared to a TR, I must admit MGB's do have a very distinct exhaust note. Mine doesn't anymore 😂. As for the white overalls, I'm soon going to buy another set. I really wish I had some industrial cleaner for them. I do wash them every time they are worn, but working on the floor on the driveway exposes them to all the rubbish. Take care and stay safe too my friend!!

      I picked up a used tr6 motor,,,trans,,,intake manifold,,,and a diff,,,,have then created up for safe keeping,,,
      Take care my friend ,,,enjoy driving that little growler mgb gt.

That's awesome to hear you've got Elin on the case. Also good to pick up some spares like that as a long term insurance policy. I must admit my sheds full of all sorts that I've picked up and it's helped me out over the years. Take care and keep safe my friend!

    Nice job Steve, but why the wrap on a beautifully shiny manifold ? Peter Burgess found that although heat is retained, and directed down the pipe, and engine compartment temperatures are lower, the head and manifold can get too hot so as to warp the manifold.
    Yes maybe an extra 3 BHP but to boot condensation will be retained and corrosion will occur under wrapped pipes. just a practical observation, no criticism. Actually Peter also reckons PECO where/are the best systems for the price on MG's.

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  3 роки тому

      Peter Burgess is a brilliant engine builder, but like anything, you ask 10 engine builder the same question, and you'll get 10 different answers. Whenever talking about performance, there will always be a trade of somewhere else. I know that there are positives and negative side to heat wrapping. However having experienced fuel vaporizing, and also throttle linkage warping all caused by the heat from stainless steel extractor manifolds, I'd just rather wrap them 👍

      Cheers Bob, the carbs have very badly worn spindles, so it hard to get it to run right. I'm toying with rather than overhauling them, get a cross flow head and twin webers. It's really exciting to think about, I've just got to see how money flow goes with all the other projects 👍

  • @DB-eh4yk

    That sounds really good! After much deliberation I went with the Moss Tourist Trophy Exhaust! How were the exhaust manifold bolts to remove? Old studs/bolts always make me uneasy!

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 роки тому +1

      Cheers Darren, I did look at the Moss TT Exhaust, and that's an excellent exhaust system combining modern technology with the old, but I just wanted something that visually looked modified. I didn't have any issues with the manifold nuts or studs as I'd had the head off the car last year, so I replaced them all then, making life a little easier when doing this job. I know what you mean with rusty studs, they can be a pain in rear

    • @skibusch1
      @skibusch1 4 роки тому

      Good question. Wondering the same thing myself. Have often used a good spray with Kroil or WD-40 with some heat. Rusted studs can be a bear.

    Proper old English sports car rasp. Probably added at least another 20mph to the top speed and cut 2 seconds off the 0-60 time ! - well at least in the imagination anyway :). Great job. How much did the manifold heat tape cost ?

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 роки тому

      Haha, well it sounds good, weather its given me any gain, we'll have to wait and see. The exhaust wrap was about £50, a little pricey, however it does its job well long run 👍

      @@SteveDentonClassics Was there any perceptible gain Steve?

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  3 роки тому +1

      It's difficult to say, I sometimes think that a loud exhaust can just be that. However it's got to benefit exhaust gas flow, with the extractor manifold. I think long term sticking a hot cam in the car, and messing about with the carbs will see a real difference. But that's all in the pipeline 👍
