thanks, maddie, appreciate it! i am certainly not an expert and trust my experience with the look and feel of a card a lot, but when in doubt, there indeed are several things i normally check. but still, certainly not as good in spotting things as some others out there. glad i could give you some inspiration! 👊🏻

I love Alpha Unsummon because of the weird misprint on it. All the weird idiosyncrasies of Alpha make it a lot of fun to collect. Stinks that you got the reback disintegrate. First time I’ve seen a reback alpha. Only ever seen this for betas.
alpha is simply unique, indeed! i am happy i got a couple of them. but the disintegrate sucked indeed. i will have a video up soon to compensate for that loss, though 😂😜! it was the first reback i ever got, but i do not buy alpha and beta a lot. hmm, what weird misprint on unsummon!? 🤔
If it’s a rebacked card it will probably weigh differently. You would need a very sensitive scale. The edge of the card can show a distinct line where the Two separate halves were glued together. But the light test was enough for me.
yeah, i mention weighing it, you re exactly right. reback should weigh about 185-188 mg and a real alpha card should weigh less, about 174-178 mg. i do not have a sensitive enough scale, but i ll buy one. glue line is not always visible well, in my opinion, if the cards is pressed well. what you do see then is a certain tension or wavyness to the card. but the light test is the easiest to do and often very clear, i agree!
@@NerdAndProudOfIt If it was a second compression on the card when glued, it would make sense that applied pressure would warp the backing thus having the card bend like that. It's definetly a reback as some glues may reflect light which I would imagine is the reason why you cannot see the light through it. Super sneaky. In all honestly, I get rebacks but going this far to ensure an accurate replica just screams shady to me.
@@bs1919 totally agree, B S! the store actually aknowledged that it was e reback, took back the card without a problem and they apologized, so the story ended well! 😁. but i indeed was very surprised to get it from that particular store.
I found from my experience that Alpha cards feel thinner and more flimsy or delicate than cards from every other set like a different paper stock or just made thinner or something. Not sure if anyone else found that. Shame you got a reback, I hope the store give you a refund or heavy discount. Also it goes to show that the higher prices usually charged by stores really dont offer guarantee of authenticity. On the plus side super nice fog and unsummon !
i have not experience a thinner card personally, with alpha cards. i need to pay attention to that. and the store already refunded me, no worries! i bought an alpha twiddle there for roughly the same price. and they indeed gave me a small part of my next purchase for free to make up for the mistake. indeed, there are no guarantees, but i still prefer a premium store over a private person, when it comes to old cards. it was the first problem i had with them since i buy there and they solved it without hesitation. that s worth a lot to me as well.
The unsummonhas an error says CARD ed on it it’s an error unique to the alpha printing sometimes obvious things can also confirm also beta seems thinnerw
thanks for the comment, brandon! yeah, indeed. it wasn t obvious on first glance, but when i took a closer look, it got more and more clear it was a reback. store gave me my money back, so that s oke 😁!

@@stefanchung23 yeah, scene here is pretty oke. i used to live in germany and have fond memories of the early days in our local magic shop. scene was great. but every german championship or bigger tournament i have been to showed me that it got more and more toxic. i honestly do not play in stores or at tournaments anymore because of that and keep to playing with my brother and close friends and colleagues.
did you have to return the card or were you just refunded the money? I always find it very unfortunate when I see someone rip off a rebacked card because it's fake. It's still wonderfully playable, and in fact I think it's legal, too, because both, the front and back were once real cards. Crystal clear, you can't sell or trade it in to someone for a real original, but you don't have to destroy it shorthand. It would also be enough to make a legible note on the back that it is immediately clear to everyone who gets the card in hand that it is not an unmanipulated original. As I said before, I like such cards because they give me less worries if a deck is stolen while I'm on the toilet, or I leave my commander in the pub in another city out of sheer luck... Ouch that hurt...
hey stefos! i fully understand your point and i personally do not have any problems if someone would wanna use rebacked cards. and i get that it is less of a worry. personally i wouldnt wanna use rebacked or fake cards. i do not use proxy’s neither and i do not play with any cards i dont own, even if i need them for a deck. but like i said, i get it and i happily play against people that do. i gave the card back to the store, yes. they of course wanted to check if i didnt sell them any BS. i probably would have kept it seperate from my collection to compare rebacks and fakes and such.
yes, on the back of the card in the green circle, if you look at that with a jewelers loope, you can find 4 red print dots in the form of an L. really small, and therfor almost impossible to fake. in the vid you can get an idea at minute 18.00.
I thought I knew a thing or two about spotting fake cards, but I learned a lot in this video and your last one. Thanks!

Great video and information. As soon as you did the light test my first thought was a reback since more fakes pass some sort light through.
