      As long as it’s not Ray Daniels. I don’t know how he is around RUSH, but based on many accounts I’ve read of Van Halen in the 90s, he was a real dingleberry. In fact, Ray Daniels was one of the key reasons why they had the first falling out with Sammy Hagar in 1996.
      Ray was also the reason why Eddie used sequencers for songs that he played on the Oberheim live during the early days. Ray wouldn’t “let” him play keyboards like he wanted to do live

    • @stevealbers8839
      @stevealbers8839 Рік тому

      Great idea! It would be cool for him to host and see if Geddy's sharing is deeper than these.

    • @garyg719
      @garyg719 Рік тому +1

      @@MyVideos-fm7ugRay is hot garbage. He wanted Rush to do another tour leg even after Neil had said he would be done. He was all about milking every penny out of Rush and I was not 1 bit surprised when it came out that he was a major problem within Van Halen.

    • @MyVideos-fm7ug
      @MyVideos-fm7ug Рік тому

      @@garyg719 that’s EXACTLY what I thought! Because if he treated Van Halen the way that he did, and being every bit the spark that led to Sammy Hagar leaving the first time in 1996… one must question his relationship with RUSH despite him being their manager the entire time
      That also makes me wonder why RUSH put up with him for so long. They just don’t impress me as the kind of guys who would put up with that. Then again, Ray’s greed and lack of being able to differentiate between people and depreciative assets could maybe be a lot of the reason why the guys toured so much and did so many records, especially seeing how once Neil came back in 2002… it was like they were picking up where they left off
      After reading Roadshow, that book was eye opening in a lot of ways. For example, Neil talks a LOT throughout the book in such a way that it feels as if he hates touring. Perhaps, that’s a huge reason as to why he rode his motorcycle - it have him an outlet away from the monotony. It was more exciting and made the tour pass by much quicker being out on his motorcycle where he felt “productive”, versus the confines of a tour bus, or being shuffled around from airport to airport on a charter
      Neil was the kind of guy who had to be “productive” at all times. And that usually involved reading, writing, traveling, observing, and learning. And what better way to be than on his motorcycle
      I rambled a bit there. But only to help further emphasize who Neil both WAS and what I speculated from Roadshow. I sometimes wondered if the guys being on the road as much as they were if that was something they truly “wanted” to do. To me, as times it seemed forced. Whether that be pressure from fans and not wanting to let them down. Or the likes of someone like Ray Daniels whom, for contractual reasons, couldn’t say no to
      Sure… as fans, we know a LOT about RUSH. But I guarantee you we know significantly less about them as a band and as people than what we DO know. And that’s fine. I can respect that. I also believe that they let out certain interesting facts to feed the appetites of the “inquiring minds”. And its been enough to keep them satisfied without getting “too wise”. That’s a deliberate strategic move that’s done to establish a wholesome “image” and to further ensure privacy… that way if any scandal might arise, they can make it seem like a media witch hunt, and it will eventually go away as if it never happened
      But that Ray… I thought that my perception of him was spot on. I’m glad that someone else saw that and reenforced my statement like you did. Thanks for the feedback

Geddy invited my friend and a few others to listen to it in the library but had to pretend it was beethoven, (they had it on headphones). Back then toronto establishment/ teachers would have considered you very freaky if that was what you were into. I wonder if Geddy remembers , if I go to his show I will have to ask him!

    This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy!
    RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
    With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
    Gary😊

    This makes probably the 5th time I watched this. This presentation that Geddy has so greatly put together… we were in such need of this. And not just for the fans, but for Geddy himself , and for Lerxst, even though he isn’t actually there. My intuition says he’ll be showing up at one of these. And yes… Geddy managed to “get” me just like everyone else each time watching.
    To my knowledge, no one else has really done anything like this before. Geddy Lee is setting a new standard, and I think that we will soon begin to see others doing “My Effin Life” tours as well
    Hell… we’ll probably even see Keith Richards do a “My Effin Life” tour once he catches wind of this . In fact, he probably SHOULD considering how he has made it this far. He’s turned out to be a bit of an anomaly

      Wishful thinking...
      Not a lot of creative or aggressive booking...
      Too bad! If there was a Geddy clone, that's who would get booked!

    I saw Rush at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island for the first time, too. Power Windows Tour. A young Primus opened and was BOOED off the stage by NY'kers in 1986 after playing YYZ perfectly 😆. Then RUSH came out with Primus T-Shirts on, in support. It eventually helped.

    I saw them
    Four times
    Odesa Texas grace under pressure, San Antonio Roll the Bones, Lubbock Texas Roll the Bones and finally The Alamo Dome and evening with Rush tour! I honestly have to say they were all excellent but the last one they played songs not ordinarily played. The Alamo dome
    Was so awesome

    The amazing thing about RUSH is that none of the guys seemed to fall into the trappings of fame, the excesses of fame. They were famous, they had all the access to the excesses but they always valued family, friends and staying grounded to who you were before becoming famous.

    Geddy has got to be the most non selfish dude that I have ever listened to. He never puts himself above anyone.

    I wish I could have been able to get tickets for a show, but it never happened. So being able to see this is awesome. Been a fan since 1979 when I was only 4 years old. I'm sure I will end up buying the book soon. I have read a few books on Rush over the years and will be interesting to hear it from the horses mouth. Or hamster with a blowtorch up its ass.

    I would like to hear Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson play Rush songs with only guitar with no synthesizer and no drums to hear the guitar parts better, with or without the words.

    Although I never met Geddy, I see him at Toronto Blue Jays games, where he sits 6 rows below me, marking his own scorebook. People leave him alone for the most part, and let him enjoy the game. He is a huge Blue Jays fan.

    In regards to the question about The Garden, this song seemed to sum up a person’s life and how he or she wanted to be thought of. When Neil died the song meaning became more relevant and was if Neil wrote his own eulogy with this song
