My fibromyalgia was caused by a combination of psychological and physical trauma. I have a mother with all the traits of narcissistic personality disorder so have had a lifetime of some physical and psychological abuse. Was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at 54, got RSI at 56 from my job and then developed fibromyalgia. I had a cousin, her mother and mine are sisters who had fibromyalgia. The low dose antidepressant for my depression also helps make my fibromyalgia pain manageable. I also have chronic insomnia and take sedatives to help sleep. I’ve cut down on alcohol and try to eat as healthy as possible for my gut issues, drinking kefir helps. I do some exercise, housework, gardening and walking. I have now developed chronic neck pain from a lifetime of bad posture and tight shoulders from stress. I do daily stretching, strengthening exercises and self massage for relief. Unfortunately for me my mother is still alive at 90, I’m now 67 and I’m going to do whatever I can to get through rest of my life, includes being low contact with her and trying to ignore her narcissistic ways.

Fiancé has been diagnosed with it…
Spine doctor says most people with fibromyalgia have old spinal cord injuries with lots of scar tissue
Gets inflamed or tight frequently or infrequently
Leads to tethering which causes a range of symptoms in different people
Her case she was rear ended when she was a baby.
Appreciate you guys tackling this absolutely polarizing syndrome

The spinal stuff happens as a result of the fibro unless it was brought upon by a trauma (secondary fibromyalgia). The whole depression description is completely misunderstood. Anyone who is unable to do most anything without pain or fatigue will surely suffer loss. It’s more like morning what you once could do, but can’t any longer. There’s a difference between the two. IMO. The persons fight or flight response gets stuck in the on position. Pumping the adrenal glands until they simply burn out. Etc etc etc

Obviously I don’t know his medical history, but usually it’s not a spine injury. The muscles and tendons constrict which narrows the spinal area. This limited space creates an environment where disc etc. press on nerves such as the sciatica or others. Assuming this, doctors love suggesting epidurals, but that’s not the problem. If he can find a chiropractor who has the equipment for lumber traction they’ll open enough room it needs. I say this typically not a fan of chiropractors. I honestly think the idea that anyone needs an adjustment every time is BS. My own opinion. The traction will alleviate the pressure on those nerves

For one, there is and has been a fibromyalgia blood test. The FM/a Test is a cytokine assay of in vitro stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Production of cytokines by stimulated immune cells in patients with fibromyalgia has been shown to be significantly different from that of healthy control patients.
If you have fibromyalgia? It’s important to move, but you’ll never get up to working out or jogging. The muscles simply tighten too much. If you’re not a moron and take medication responsibly find a Dr who knows this disease and will work with you. The ideas “you’re on your own and let’s build up your tolerance “is lunacy. Get a good Dr who’ll try to help make your life a bit easier with this horrific disease. See Dr Ginevra on utube and get her fibro manual. It’s the best book out there.

My best advice if I can offer to you is plan extra time for activities, find shortcuts to everything, and keep moving because once you stop the stiffness sets in. Hope that helps 🥰

Commenting on your most recent post based off of the upper cross syndrome video you made: Being less sedentary, walking more etc. won’t fix people with severe muscle imbalances and postural issues. They will just be going into the “best” posture that they can attain with their dysfunction and never reversing that to the most optimal posture possible for their body. If someone has overactive “push” muscles in the front and their “pull” muscles are weak and rotator cuff muscles etc. then no amount of sitting upright will fix their problems until they address that.

FM is how people feel that have spent their lives sitting around, doing nothing, eating garbage food, not drinking enough water, constant vitamin and mineral deficiencies, illicit drug and alcohol use, immoral social behaviors (impulses sex, stealing, gossiping, envy, resentment, anti social tendencies, general outlook of negativity, etc), poor sleep habits, poor daily routine habits, poor hygiene, lack of heathy brain stimulation (i.e too much trash television, scrolling useless social media instead of reading, active learning, etc.)
In other words, it’s not a real disease in the traditional sense, but rather, exactly how one would expect to feel living a gluttonous, hedonistic, prideful, covetous, envious, and over all negative and low frequency, stupid existence.
This “disease” should not be taken seriously by the normal, functioning, and positively productive portion of our society.
    Sorry not sorry.
