Well Teddy I'm a sailor in the UK which has high tidal waters and the moon phase helps to give an idea whether there will be a really strong tide (spring tide) or weaker tide (neap tide) So its useful.
Fun fact: a moonphase watch is useless/unpractical for us Southern Hemisphere people. Most moonphase watches are made using the moon as seen on the Northern Hemisphere. If you go south you will see an inverted pattern and watches that have that type of display are rare. An example is IWC's Portugieser Perpetual Calendar (double moonphase)
You just have to move your arm? A quarter moon is still going to be a quarter moon. I think it's pretty rare to have the moon orientation correct on a watch for a any latitude
If you are an amateur astrophotographer, as I am, a moon phase is incredibly useful. If it's clear out at say, 5pm, you can just look down and see whether or not you'll be able to capture images that night! You can't do deep sky astrophotography with a lot of atmospheric light, such as a full moon near your target object. I can know at a glance whether I should bring my gear out and setup or not.
A great use of the moon phase is to keep track of your SO's period cycle. ie: when the moon is setting or just rising, be very careful with your words/actions; good time to go fishing... To sync it, when period starts, set the moon to just rising.
Useless? Little practical use? They’re wrist watches and everyone has a phone in their pocket… we buy these things because we like em. In the grand scheme of things the entire wrist watch is useless. And this is coming from a watch enthusiast.
Most people dont consider this but its kinda usefull for any muslims who wear it. The Islanic calendar is based on the moon so having that on your wrist gives u an estimate into what ohase of the islamic month your are in.
I love the elegance that it gives to a dress watch. I don't have those expensive pieces but I love the way that it looks on my Tissot Carson Premium watch. It is just matches the classic look with the Roman numerals.
It actually is decently useful. You don’t get an exact day of the month but it’s a handy reminder when the 13th 14th and 15th of the month are approaching to fast on those days
Actually if your from the nightgoon variety. Being able to know the illum from the moon at a flick of the wrist when planning your nods outing is fckg amazing
I find it hard to believe someone would get a watch with a moon phase and not know what it is. But I guess if you inherited one maybe. It’s pretty clear to a layman that it’s the dang moon 😂.
Tbh mechanical watches as a whole are pretty useless these days given you can just get an Apple Watch or just use your phone, so honestly I think all that matters these days is what looks better, so I don’t think even really care if something is useful or not
Well, useful or not, a complication such as this for something mechanical that is strapped to a wrist sure does warrant the price some of these watches command (if it’s something you’re looking for of course).
It is *not* I repeat NOT more useless than an a.m./p.m. indicator. That sh** is completely useless to anyone who has eyes and doesn't live at the north pole. I have never, ever said what time is it? 2? Cool... AM or PM?
For me -very unpopular opinon- the chronograph is the most useles function. What do I need to stop the time for. It's shown right there on the dial, i can just remember when I started xD
Even telling the time is a useless feature .. I mean. Ur phones are more accurate than ur watches. It’s not about the usability or accuracy , it’s about beauty
there are some, but they're expensive af. there's a watch maker that made 2, one is called something everywhere, and u can manually set the coordinates of where you are, and another one is 10x cheaper (still expensive af) and is set by a specialist for a certain place (can be changed by a specialist only) and is called anywhere I think.
I love a moon phase.
Me too I love moon phases
The most elegant complication! Can you do a review of a Montblanc Star Legacy Moonphase?
It's so beautiful!
The werewolf in the audience:
Well Teddy I'm a sailor in the UK which has high tidal waters and the moon phase helps to give an idea whether there will be a really strong tide (spring tide) or weaker tide (neap tide) So its useful.
Really depends on who is wearing it
I just use tide tables
Some hunters love a moon phase display on their watches.
🙀

Didn't knew that, thx
Still moon phase is mayank phase get it mayank=moon phase
You just have to move your arm? A quarter moon is still going to be a quarter moon. I think it's pretty rare to have the moon orientation correct on a watch for a any latitude
What if you are in the Equator?
@@davidlalama7679 your watch turns into pure madness!

Useful if you do anything involving the ocean, boating etc.
It not just a phase, Mom!
It’s actually pretty useful for the hijri calendar. Literally the whole of Islam is based around that calendar.
Also useful if you use the lunar calendar
A great use of the moon phase is to keep track of your SO's period cycle. ie: when the moon is setting or just rising, be very careful with your words/actions; good time to go fishing... To sync it, when period starts, set the moon to just rising.
That's an INCREDIBLE idea. I do the same with a clunky app, it might as well be a beautiful watch.
The Islamic calendar is based on the moon! So it's a cool way to track approximately where in the month we are.
I consult moonphase to have my hair cut every 3 months 😂😛
Lol.. I thought it signified night-time 😅
Thats another, Day and Night function.
Moonphase is a great compliment. That JLC is stunning. Awesome video!
Useless? Little practical use? They’re wrist watches and everyone has a phone in their pocket… we buy these things because we like em. In the grand scheme of things the entire wrist watch is useless. And this is coming from a watch enthusiast.
I love the moon phase complication
as a warewolf sailor it is extremely useful since it's hard to find a watch that shows tide that isn't huge
This is very relevant to Muslims though
Fishing.
Most people dont consider this but its kinda usefull for any muslims who wear it. The Islanic calendar is based on the moon so having that on your wrist gives u an estimate into what ohase of the islamic month your are in.
Well its useful if you live in a typhoon belt where the moon is always hiding behind thick stormy clouds.
May not be practical nowadays but it’s a beautiful complication and almost always adds to a watch.
As Ball watch fan this is Amazing watch
SOME GORGEOUS Pieces 🎉
It’s classic, it’s beautiful and it’s functional. Not ‘useless’ at all.
Me personally it comes in very handy for astronomy.
Moon phase is easily my favorite complication
watch the moon phase and pay attention to the woman in your life…
I love the elegance that it gives to a dress watch. I don't have those expensive pieces but I love the way that it looks on my Tissot Carson Premium watch. It is just matches the classic look with the Roman numerals.
What about all the people who use lunar not solar calendars?
If you live near the ocean it's an extremely useful complication.
It might be useful for Muslims tracking the Lunar calendar though.
It actually is decently useful. You don’t get an exact day of the month but it’s a handy reminder when the 13th 14th and 15th of the month are approaching to fast on those days
Not useless. I love moon phase. And use it!
Actually if your from the nightgoon variety. Being able to know the illum from the moon at a flick of the wrist when planning your nods outing is fckg amazing
You’re reading my mind! Exactly as you say: Useless… and so elegant. I love it.
I know what are the moon phases . On a JLC , it could be a real moon phase but on "cheap" watches is it day/night or moon phase ????
I find it hard to believe someone would get a watch with a moon phase and not know what it is. But I guess if you inherited one maybe. It’s pretty clear to a layman that it’s the dang moon 😂.
Tbh mechanical watches as a whole are pretty useless these days given you can just get an Apple Watch or just use your phone, so honestly I think all that matters these days is what looks better, so I don’t think even really care if something is useful or not
For Chinese culture. It is actually very useful to know the moon phase for many events and holidays
If you think the moonphase is useless, you never saw the Orient Sun and Moon 😂 it's a Nice watch btw
I disagree. I use my moon phase. When their is a full moon SOME folks act zany
Well samw could be said about the entire “mechanical watch” industry unfortunately.
A watch is completely useless 😂
We all know we wear it for the beauty. Not for telling the time.
I once Said the moonphase was completely useless. Then 4 days later someone asked me if there was a full moon. I know when Iam defeated
Moon phase can track your girls menstrual cycle if she’s regular
What if I want my watch to let me know when it's prime 'look at the moon' time? No other complication does that!
Well, the other day my satnav stopped working and I used my moon phase to get me there 😂
Too long, didn't watch: just looks pretty
I set my moon phase 1st new moon and 15th full moon so I know when to eat vegetarian
I think a minute repeater serves less of a function these days...
I’d be too lazy to set a moon phase all the time. As things stand, I barely set the date.
It could actually be of a great use if you are from a culture that uses a lunar calendar
Fantastic Teddy! Are you of italian origins?
might be useful for muslims, people who like to go fishing
The 24 hour ring is the most useless complication
Clearly you don’t live with a woman 😅
Well, useful or not, a complication such as this for something mechanical that is strapped to a wrist sure does warrant the price some of these watches command (if it’s something you’re looking for of course).
Still more useful than a tachymeter tbh
Obviously you are not a werewolf.
I always wanted a moonphase watch. I just can't justify owning 2 expensive watches.
My favorite complication
I love the moon phase. I love watches, but I also love stargazing. This is the perfect complication for me.
is it a "cut out " aperture, or just an aperture?
Love my JLC MUT! The Moon phase is my favourite complication on a dress watch
How is it useless? You are being elitist
I mean I can look to the sky at the real moon
Also am pm/sun moon is 10x more useless
JLC close up suck, uneven edges
I use my ALS moonphase for my stock trades! Works a charm as I can now afford many, many ALS watches!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to remind us about history : well said, bravo👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Uniqueness for the moon"face", handsdown to Ball❤
But should check out the intriquity from Arnold & Son.
even when it's usewful, most of them are northern hemisphere only.
Useful if you are a werewolf
The actual most useless complications is a slaved 24 hours indicator.
That Jaeger is incredible, too bad I'll never own one!
Great for fishing
I think the c1 moonglow from chris ward is pretty nice
So, is it expensive?
Teddy, the moon phase 🌝 tells me when the physc ward 🤪 will go nuts, and when to go shrimping 🦐 For me, it’s very useful!
Thanks TB! I will go with the most Beautiful feature 😊
That JLC!!! 💥💥💥
Teddy, it’s over bud. The watch fad has died. We don’t care anymore. You should start a channel on how to afford groceries in 2023.
If you have to ask yourself that question, you don’t deserve that watch
It is *not* I repeat NOT more useless than an a.m./p.m. indicator. That sh** is completely useless to anyone who has eyes and doesn't live at the north pole. I have never, ever said what time is it? 2? Cool... AM or PM?
Yes!! I hate that register on a chrono! What a waste of space.
For me -very unpopular opinon- the chronograph is the most useles function. What do I need to stop the time for. It's shown right there on the dial, i can just remember when I started xD
Because it is pretty and shows the watch is probably more expensive too. It is like the appendix, probably totally useless remain of a time past 😂
Even telling the time is a useless feature .. I mean. Ur phones are more accurate than ur watches. It’s not about the usability or accuracy , it’s about beauty
I would like a moon phase with rise and set times
there are some, but they're expensive af. there's a watch maker that made 2, one is called something everywhere, and u can manually set the coordinates of where you are, and another one is 10x cheaper (still expensive af) and is set by a specialist for a certain place (can be changed by a specialist only) and is called anywhere I think.
It's called Krayon

Beautiful pieces - unfortunately out of my price range - but thank you for the information
Cheers
Can anyone mention the Ball watch model and the Zenith model, shown in this video?
