like the person above just said, her abuela does that too. they both have a connection with casita. it might mean one of the reasons mirabel didn’t get a gift is because she’s abuela’s successor (I saw this theory on a video somewhere) and it makes sense because mirabel opens the door to the new casita at the end. maybe that was her door all along. but yeah this is just what I think :)
This is why the front door to the new Casita has HER doorknob. She is Abuela Alma’s natural successor, and “her” door is the Casita’s door. I love this movie so much- and I love Mírabel as a main character so much. She is so relatable. (I’m not Latina, but I get her role in her family SO MUCH.) Also her voice actress absolutely nailed it.
Abuela always thought Mirabel doesn't have a power and it convinces Mirabel that she really doesn't have a power but the truth is their house, Casita, is her power and that she holds the casita. That's why it started breaking everytime Abuela tells her that she should stay aside.
Mirabel is just like abuela. She didn't get a gift, she was born with it. She takes care of the family and makes sure that their miracle is safe. Mirabel is the next matriarch of the family Madrigal.
I love the part when Abuela touched her earrings and fix herself, it’s a subconscious thing and it felt so realistic and you have to be really attentive to catch that. Just like how Hayao Miyazaki opened the jaws of his dog and applied into the dragon.
YEah that was a great call on the animator's part, he really did the right thing using his mom as direct inspiration! You can feel the authenticity in it. I know it's Dreamworks, but it also reminds me of one of the animators of that film talking about how he'd have Moses' adopted mom touching his face and caressing his cheeks a lot because his own mother would do that. And how the animator for Ariel liked to draw her biting her lip because that's what his wife would do. I love seeing artists put themselves and those they love in their work!
it's so fantastic how latin and asian culture are similar in some points, the filipino animator talking about how abuela was like their mom is a nice detail
Yeah! I'm Indonesian and while Raya is supposed to represent southeast asian culture, i feel more connected to Encanto because Encanto shows the real culture that's more connected to the people, and shows the dynamics in a colombian family, and i can relate to encanto a lot!
Yes and although Raya is all about our pure ethnic culture here in southeast asian. But this latin culture like Coco,Encanto and other latin theme animated movies like book of life, vivo etc. are giving more vibes on pre modern filipino culture and lifestyle in some points.
I thought I was the only one! As a Filipino, at first I feel guilty that I connected more with Coco and Encanto which are movies about Latin culture more than I did with Raya, which is a movie for our very own South East Asia. But then I realized it's because those movies are focused more about family relationships and given the history of our country, our family values tend to align more with Latin cultures about valuing our family. I think that says a lot and I can't help but wish that our representation was also focused on family themes. But still, I'm happy I can connect with other culture through shared values!

This NEEDS to get a Best Song Oscar nod. My Spanish is absolutely terrible these days, so I took time to study the lyrics the other day, and WOW. The lyrics blow you away in the original language. (I had a similar reaction to “Remember Me” from Pixar’s “Coco” when I concentrated on the lyrics in the intended language. Both songs are so much more powerful in Spanish.)
Thats what I thought because I was like how do they match the “we don’t talk about Bruno no no no” so well like did they write the song first and then choose his name cause “we don’t talk about Oscar no no no” would sound weird. Idk if that makes sense

That's amazing. If you read the English translation, it will make you cry harder. I cried the first time I saw it/heard it because I know Spanish. The song along with the animation makes it so much heartbreaking and hopeful.

personally think that the movie is about trying to live up the grandma's expectations. Just like Mirabel says " we will never be good enough." we experience it a lot in Hispanic and Latin homes. If we try to express our feelings we are seen as being dramatic. If we have depression it's not considered valid. You're seen as lazy. Because if you're not successful you're nothing in their eyes. It's a lot of pressure. Like Luisa's song. " I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service."

Love it! Thanks to everyone who made this possible! Lots of thing to learn! My inspiration was from abuela, sometimes we don’t know the past of someone , she suffered and that suffer turn her into a hard shield to protect her family. Hope to see next movie Madrigal 2 And see how Mirabel turns into the new family leader, and some clips to see abuela finally reunited with Abuelo Pedro.

Colombia has given us some of the funniest, most surprisingly exuberant films and series on Netflix and other streaming channels. I can’t wait to see this.
Waiting on a miracle is the best 🙌🙌
Si a beautiful movie, haven’t seen in a long time, reflecting the true love in family which is accepting everyone and help them be their best, and also that when you work together in a family , the casita ( the power of the family) never breaks down!
Love it! Thanks to everyone who made this possible!
Lots of thing to learn!
My inspiration was from abuela, sometimes we don’t know the past of someone , she suffered and that suffer turn her into a hard shield to protect her family.
Hope to see next movie Madrigal 2
And see how Mirabel turns into the new family leader, and some clips to see abuela finally reunited with Abuelo Pedro.
bro saying these ppl are talented is such an understatement
i started crying when dos orugitas came up and i hade to listen to the song again, that song touched my heart
Way to go, Mikee Sevilla!!! So proud of you!!!
THE ANIMATOR OF ENCANTO IS A FILIPINO???
WOWWW PROUD OF YOU FROM PHILIPPINES
Latinos, Afro-Latinos, and Filipinos in one magical film
6:42 I'm so glad that you have families here in the Philippines! Watching Encanto makes me happy because of the influence of the spanish language and the colombian vibes that somehow resonates and relates with my country. I also love how you spoke our language! 😭❤
Dos oroguitas is something else
Proud PILIPINO here knowing that a PILIPINO is the one that draw everything in there a big round of applause not just to him but to all of the cast that helped to do thus amazing movie, it made me feel how much a family should mean to me, lot's of love and i hope you will receive more blessings
As a filipino, i'm so proud that one of the animators of encanto is a filipino and LGBTQ!!!
Pls encanto 2
No wonder why I felt deeply connected with this film cause one of the animators is a Filipino! 🥰 Hello Kabayan! So proud of you that you're part of the making of Encanto movie! 😁 The culture of Colombia/Spanish is really similar to the Philippines. And I can relate to Luisa, being the strongest in the family and the part where she sang the Surface Pressure and that she needs to take a break sometimes because everything feels so heavy already... 😅I don't know but there's something about this movie that I really love. 10/10 Disney Encanto! 🥰 I literally can watch this film everyday! 🥰
I love this movie!!!!
Im a proud Filipino here!😩🖐️
I would definitely want Isabela’s gift if I could have one. It just seems so cool pretty and powerful.
