- Encanto is pretty magical behind the scenes. For a movie made mostly from the homes of hundreds of people (thanks to a certain pandemic), it sure doesn’t feel like the isolated content we were seeing on TV in 2021. The crew initially traveled to Colombia to research the locations, the culture and the music so they could tell as authentic of a story as possible. The dance choreography they put together before the animators ever got to work is absolutely stunning. It’s so fun and colorful and cartoony (just a little bit). Lin-Manuel Miranda recording himself singing all of the songs in Encanto is the bonus CD that the world needs. Probably the funniest thing about the process was the animator that was working from home and had to rely on his bed sheets to create an authentic shot. There is so much to talk about with that “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” song. The script, if you didn’t know, is all based around family. But your heart will be warmed when you learn about where a certain trait of Abuela’s came from. The magical house went through a long design process, which we’re sure isn’t hard to believe. They wanted it to feel alive but didn’t want to bend the elements to do it and came up with a better solution. The costumes are so incredibly detailed you can see every stitch - but you should know, there was a time when Mirabel’s design included high heels! Encanto is packed with fun, weird, quirky things. It’s almost like embracing your authentic you can make a super fun movie. Check it out.

3:19 that hip movement is one of the most enchanting dance moves ever, in my opinion, and I'm so glad they were able to catch that in the animation so well.
I love whoever made it so that Mirabel had a stitched visual of everyone’s gift on her dress. She truly loves her family.

No one has mentioned that not only are Deloris's ears round and prominent, so are her eyes. She has gossupy moments, so she not only hears everything, she sees all.

Encanto is a masterpiece when it comes to animating dance, I just love the choreography of the film and also some facial expressions and reactions are priceless
This movie was delightful, from start to finish, and I loved how how there was no twist villain, with the family past being the primary source of conflict.
I've been thinking about it and arrived to the conclusion that there is a villain and it is Expectations, personified by grandma.
The villain is generational trauma.

Every time I hear people calling latino people latinx I lose a few years of my lifetime. I dread the day that someone refers to me as latinx directly. Either say latino that includes everybody (regardless of gender) anyway or latine which is OUR gender-neutral version of the word.
This attempt of being inclusive is so backwards to me, foreigners try to include us in something using our language while completely ignoring our input about it and language structure.
Exactly I don’t know how I will react when someone inevitably does. All I know is that it won’t be positive. It’s all about inclusivity and forcing other cultures to bend to your norms.

@@nanitaheart it’s supposed to be the “gender inclusive” version of Latino or Latina, but it’s entirely unnecessary and kinda offensive because Latino is already the inclusive version. People wanted to change it because Latino is the masculine version if you’re referring to one person, so it’s like changing “humanity” or “huwomanity” to “huanity” or something to attempt to remove the “masculine” part of the word.
Dunno if you’re familiar with the way the language is structured to begin with, but there’s a feminine or masculine version of nouns, usually just swapping o for a or vise versa, and most words are either feminine or masculine, which is apparently problematic for people.

Omg I thought I was the only one that was bothered by that. Gosh it made me cringe.
The only thing that bugged me is "Latinx." The speaker sounds Canadian. Why would you expect an Anglo-Canadian to pronounce Spanish names perfectly?? Btw most people mispronounce Russian names technically. "Boris" should be "Bah-rees" and "Vladimir" should be "Vla-Dee-meer."

I appreciate the time and effort for the team who made Encanto. I've noticed how much animated filmmakers are helping present a more accurate and authentic animation and storytelling so that they can help support the people they are wanting to have represented and to reach audiences.
My kids can’t get enough and now I listen to the songs even without them. 😃
I really love how many talented people were in this project. Their work is fantastic and I really loved this movie even though I like 17+ content more.

As a Cuban, I feel that the only people who call Hispanics "LatinX" are white people who don't understand Spanish as a language.
They hear that there's "feminine" and "masculine" words and they freak out without realizing that that's just how the language is.
German has feminine, masculine, and neutral words, yet you don't hear these people demanding Germans be called "GerX"

Hi. I'm latina and never asked to be called latinx. It absolutely wipes the latin american out of the word. It would be much better if instead of apologizing in the pinned comment, just edit it out. You say you're sorry, but im still hearing the word multiple times on this video, and presumably, many other people will if this video stays up as it is. We don't identify as this (for the most part, I don't talk for very latino/a out there), white americans do. I'm sorry for the ranty comment, I usually don't get heated or argumentative, but this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

As a Salvadoran Brazilian I am beyond happy to see characters I can more relate to in popular animation. I started doing 3D 2 years ago and it makes me excited to see movies like Encanto being produced today

When I heard Latin x I was so confused and thought the word sounded like a test subject "subject marine x", which does not sound appreciative at all.

When I saw the part of the movie about "Bruno no, no", I notice something weird about the movement of their feet: too bouncy. I am not surprised now as the dancers was wearing sneakers! For rehearsal that fine but for the final movie, they should have worn espadrilles. Walt Disney would have never passed this detail which not a tiny detail considering shoes is part of dancing, isn't it?

Love the costume design but want to point out that, that kind of outfits were used in the 30's or 40's-ish in Colombia, no one dresses like that now, except for dance or traditional performances :)
Also, that kind of house can be found only in rural areas, I recommend visiting Salamina in the state of Caldas- Colombia or Villa de Leyva in the state of Boyacá- Colombia if you want to see that kind of architecture, otherwise the cities are just cement and concrete :)
I think that's the point! Remember they were cut off from the world 50 years ago in the movie. They've been living separately from the modern world Because of the magic of the 'encanto'. I'm pretty sure that's why everything is outdated :)
