SPOILER ALERT: I am south african and absolutely enjoyed this movie. I feel like Mirabel represented the candle. When she inserted the door knob that she was gifted, the house came alive, the same way the candle made it come alive. I think that's so beautiful because she, in fact, had the greatest gift of all.
@@MillarVideoProductions Lion king, twice, best Disney movie of all time, best soundtrack of all Disney movies, best Disney song of all time (Circle of life). Represented all of Africa.

this is one of the best Latin movies, as a latina we don’t get too much representation. They did such a great job not stereotyping anything, and making it true to us. Our actual beautiful culture. The songs, scenery, and everything.
I wish they would make a movie based on African culture and maybe even Arab culture (they made Aladdin which is amazing but it’s based on Aladdin rather than an actual Disney Princess)
@@maryamashraf5547 but raya is based off of SEA culture not specifically indonesia(or any other SEA country), so i think it would be better if like coco or encanto just focus on one culture not try to mix in so many at once
I actually think that mirabel's door disappeared because it connected to the casita itself which means that her power is the house itself. She was like the only one who actually conversate with the house. Abuela, maybe, but shes only giving commands to the casita, not actually talking personally.
Absolutely loved this movie like every other movie Disney's produced but I couldn't help but feel a sense of "That's it?" at the end. It was such a shame that they weren't able to explore all the characters. Everyone had amazing room for development but they only managed to tackle Luisa, Isabela, Maribel, and Abuela Can you imagine if they each had a breakthrough like those four did? The burden must've been so hard to bear for all of them and in unique ways.
I think Pepa also had a breakthrough, it was quick but Bruno told her that she just needed to 'let it go' and just feel emotions and what will be will be, that she could control her weather by not being afraid of messing up the weather. It felt very frozen-esque lol
Well, even if you gave each character 12 minutes to explore their arch, that’s already a 144 minute movie. I think they did great with the time they had, and would love to see a second!
The music was really good, but it all felt a bit sudden and abrupt. I know that's the charm of musical movies, just everyone bursting into a song... but unfortunely Encanto didn't make the unnatural musical charm... natural. The story also seemed a bit rushed.
And there definitely needs to be talk of a part two, because there’s so many elements that did not get the chance to be explored. Such as how each family member grows into their gift, training with it, etc. what each of their rooms look like, the revelation of what both Abuela’s and Mirabel’s gift really is. How the non-magical members adapted to the family. The sky is the limit with this film. Keep going Disney!
Disney has literally only done movies around various cultures. Mulan, Aladin, Moana, frozen, lion king, and the list goes on. There are probably some others , but I can't think of any Disney studios movies movies based in America other than princess and the frog. Disney has literally always been open to other cultures in their movies.
@@_DallinStephens_ true. A better statement would be to hope Disney makes more movies about another latin culture. Like Brazilian for example since they speak another language. Or from Central America.
I'm half Peruvian but I was thrilled to see they were making a Latin American (South American) musical Disney movie. It's like we're all being represented in a small way and I appreciate it.

The only problem with the movie: I felt it was too short! I loved it so much that I wanted more!!! Edit: THANK YOU for the likes, I didn't expect so many! Woah...
@@donuted_ace I also felt that we needed a little more screen time for "bonding" between Bruno and Mirabel. I mean okay, he's her uncle and she's his niece, they know each other, but they were never close to each other, because he had left when she was little. So, I believe we needed more time for them to get to know each other better...
--spoiler but not really but yess--- I loved how mirabels journey (like many main disney characters) of self discovery was still all within her home. She traveled far yet stayed within the home or atleast close to her family if that makes sense for those who watches it.
I loved that aspect! So many times protagonists go on these long quests away from their origins, which is entertaining and important, but its not the only way to show character development. Its equally as important to show a character going on important mental journey's while being surrounded by family and still being in their home.
At first it was thought that Mirabel would go with Abuela Alma away from town and see technology and things like that, but they scrapped the idea and I'm glad they did.
SPOILER ahead: I'm sad that the trailers and promo material shows Antonio's gift... I went into this movie knowing nothing about it, and it was a really tense moment wondering whether Antonio would get a gift or not when he walked up to the door. It was one of my favourite parts of the movie, because I really didn't know what was going to happen. You get to experience the same feelings as Mirabel in that moment, when she realises the miracle skipped her. That moment just won't be as good for people who watched the trailers first 😔😔😔
they also show Bruno just kind of THERE, being FINE, clearly not a bad guy I find that also kind of ruins the mystery about him they build up in the movie
@@arcryves2630 I would argue that him not being a bad guy in reality fits with the theme of family expectations. He's not evil, he's very severely misunderstood because of assumptions everyone makes about him and how he can see the future while everyone else can't. His power of prophecy has given him a not-so-favorable reputation in the community as well as with the Madrigals, and the purpose that Abuela Alma puts on the Madrigals is that they're supposed to use their special gifts to help people. Would you say that telling someone that their fish would die, that they would gain weight, and that they would lose their hair is considered helping? I wouldn't think so. This is why he's shunned by the family and by the community: because he failed to fulfill his purpose that is helping others using his gift. Bruno's prophecies always come true (because his gift is literally seeing into the future), and thus when the future he sees is bad, they blame him for it happening because they think that him saying it to them is jinxing it. It's like Absol from Pokemon. In case you aren't aware, the Pokemon Absol can sense when bad weather's about to happen and, out of pure intention, goes to the community that will be affected in order to warn them; but most of the time he's shunned and even hated by the people because they see his coming as a bad omen and thus his coming jinxes the entire place whenever he comes. Because of Bruno's power of prophecy and the bleak future ahead, not only do the people shun and refuse to talk about him, but the Madrigals feel that he's disappointed them and failed his purpose to help the people. These expectations pin him down to a very uncomfortable spot, and he can't do anything about it-- he's been asked about the future before, and he simply told them what he saw. When your future is bleak and there's nothing to be done about it, who else could you blame for your unfortunate circumstance-to-be besides the messenger who told you what would come to pass? It's human nature to look for something or someone to blame for the bad things that have affected you, and no more is it shown than with Bruno.
@@adlirez but as a viewer we are supposed to be left wondering until it is confirmed, thats what makes the message strike a chord. So spoiling it is kind of unfortunate. That is my entire point, I saw the movie 4 times I know he's not a bad guy and I know the messages and themes.
Well I watched this trailer a month ago and forgot about what the trailer is all about when I watched Encanto yesterday 😂. So for me it didn't spoil everything 🤣
This is why I never watch trailers if I can help it. It’s now how I decide to watch a. Movie anyway. So, I did have that tense moment, and I knew nothing about Bruno. I agree now, knowing they put that in the trailer, it was better that I didn’t know.
I just watched this yesterday and already rewatched it. This is incredibly beautiful. The music is so damn good, expecting no less from Miranda. The animation is amazing, they've really nailed down their style for 3d, the colors! The plot, the representation, the fact they made this feel very realistic and yet a magical paradise, just astonishing. Top tier Disney movies.
As much as I love all the voice actors, I don't have enough words for the amazing team of animators who must have worked day and night bringing these beautiful fictional characters to life. I see you and I respect you and I adore you all for your exceptional skills. Te amo y me encanta.
I just watched it and it was absolutely delightful, a personal favourite for sure. Only complaint is I wish we'd explored more of each family member and their rooms
It’s not just the Casita that Mirabel’s unspoken gift touches, but literally the whole land. Remember the scene where the candle was dimming, the tall mountain from far away also cracked right in the middle. So Mirabel being the next successor for Abuela Alma, meaning she doesn’t get a big magical room like her siblings and cousins, but literally the whole enchanted land.
i think mirabel doesn't have a gift because she's meant to take over abuela. abuela doesn't have a gift (i think) and instead takes care of everyone. this is similar to mirabel, as mirabel is always looking out for others and she tried to save the house before it was destroyed. both show dedication to protect the house, and though it's for different reasons, i think it still works. both of them also seem to be the most 'in contact' with the house, what i mean is the house 'helps' them? like the house responds to them more. this is just how i interpreted it
I thought her gift was the house if I'm being honest. You can see the house cracking at parts where she's stressed or when the house breaks entirely like her heart got broken after she was told off that she's the one breaking the family apart. Also because of the concept art, her emotions would display throughout the house. Abuela built the house and Mirabel is the personality of the house
I feel like Mirabel doesn’t have a gift because she is the gift. I think she’s a gift to her family. A physical reminder that they’re more than their gifts and that they can love and be loved and contribute even if they weren’t given any magical gifts at all. She’s the reminder that they were a family before they were given the encanto, and that they should cherish and protect each other.
I feel like not enough people talk about how Abuela's door literally just says Abuela, and what that could mean for Mirabel. Its not her name, and presumably she wouldn't have even been an Abuela when she first got that room. It's her 'legacy' as the matriarch instead. Maybe Mirabel couldn't get a door because, as said, she's going to inherit Abuela's 'gift' of preserving the Encanto, but also because she couldn't be the new matriarch when the title was already taken? Having two 'Abuela' doors would be confusing, after all, especially when one of them is only five.
I really think Mirabel is Abuela's successor, probably the next in charge of the candle, since Abuela, like Mirabel, doesn't have any kind of special gift whatsoever.
same theory here. I was thinking maybe the reason she never got her door that day was that there can only be one door and it's already occupied by Abuela. But once the candle burned out (what was once the source of the miracle), that role was transferred to the house. Mirabel's affinity with the house and how the front door glowed made me believe she's now taken over Abuela's gift.
@@damaskito I was gonna say I thought her “gift” is the candle that birthed madrigal so she’s technically the matriarch of the village since she’s the founder
I do think you’re right but for different reasons Maribel is able to connect with her relatives and siblings. Which is an important communication skill in leadership imo!
She got her door in the end which was the house's actual main door. They were all in that door but she was in the front probably because she will be the next Matriarch and the leader of the village.
It is incredible to see Disney make such movie. The movie is really close to home for me especially since “casita” looks so similar to where i grew up in colombia. I loved how they took the time to depict a bit of the forceful internal migration and the violence that has been a part of my country throughout its history. It is a sad reality that I think every Colombian has to learn to live with and that dychotomy of living in such a beautiful country with such a terrible and brutal history is a big part of what makes us Colombians who we are and is at the heart of the magical realism that this movie is inspired by. Honestly, if the movie had been just joy and happyness I would have felt cheated. They truly went the extra mile with this one.

For some reason, I already want a second Encanto so that we can get a closer look on other characters :) Is that just me or is anyone else into that idea 😅
Me tooo!! I feel like some of the characters didn’t get enough lines like Camilo he was so cool !! but yeah I agree I want to see more of their personalities.
I'd like to see more of Camilo's and Bruno's interactions with the family, and Bruno's reactions as each niece and nephew was born and received their gift (both before he "left" and while he was looking from behind the family tree)!

I knew i recognised that voice and face from somewhere, but I couldn't figure it out... 😂
SPOILER ALERT:
I am south african and absolutely enjoyed this movie. I feel like Mirabel represented the candle. When she inserted the door knob that she was gifted, the house came alive, the same way the candle made it come alive. I think that's so beautiful because she, in fact, had the greatest gift of all.
I want a Disney film that treats South Africa with as much passion as this

I actually think that mirabel's door disappeared because it connected to the casita itself which means that her power is the house itself. She was like the only one who actually conversate with the house. Abuela, maybe, but shes only giving commands to the casita, not actually talking personally.
I think abuela is the house and she didn't want to give her power after seeing the prophesy.
@@damaskito thissssss. And it ended up backfiring

u right
Absolutely loved this movie like every other movie Disney's produced but I couldn't help but feel a sense of "That's it?" at the end.
It needed an extra hour I feel like Ik it's a animated movies and those are really hard to make And it a short and sweet movie about family
The music was really good, but it all felt a bit sudden and abrupt. I know that's the charm of musical movies, just everyone bursting into a song... but unfortunely Encanto didn't make the unnatural musical charm... natural. The story also seemed a bit rushed.
I think it would have been a great mini series.
I've noticed that Mirabel is the only one that actually talks and understands Casita
I agree
The abuela does as well

As a Latina (not Colombian), this was amazing. I’m so happy and glad Disney is opening themselves to do movies about different cultures!
@@jazzedaboutcheese Umm no. Is a Colombian representation, not Latin. Latinos are called like that bc we live in Latin America but every country has its own culture so dont confuse.

So, I believe we needed more time for them to get to know each other better...

I loved how mirabels journey (like many main disney characters) of self discovery was still all within her home. She traveled far yet stayed within the home or atleast close to her family if that makes sense for those who watches it.
Right? When i watch trailer i thought she will go to adventure somwhere far away, but the whole movie takes place in their home.
@@wiktoriag3616 Also the river.. which isn't too far from their home too
Because of covid right? Disney teaches us to stay at home.
SPOILER ahead:
I'm sad that the trailers and promo material shows Antonio's gift...
That moment just won't be as good for people who watched the trailers first 😔😔😔
they also show Bruno just kind of THERE, being FINE, clearly not a bad guy
I find that also kind of ruins the mystery about him they build up in the movie

Brb crying
Also she is able to connect to the village, because she is one of them.
Abuela does have a door, her gift and burden is being the leader of her comunity.
same theory here.
