Much prefer yours and Corys content now you've set out by yourselves. Genuine lads with a wealth of knowledge that we appreciate you sharing with us. Keep up the great work and keep your head high!
yes, jordan has overreached himself a bit, but he has given us a few decent channels to watch. I don;t actually dislike jordan, but i do find him a bit pretentious
This page needs a massive boost. Only just found you. I was gutted when Jordan announced he made redundancies after all of the on screen glory and expense and refused to watch his channel since. I tried to find out what you were doing just after that. Wishing you all the best in your business. Keep the UA-cam up and that might be an income for you too.
I got fed up watching AE doing endless "DIY bashing" videos. My "DIY" CU got a compliment from the EDF chap for neatness when he came to replace the service fuse. Yes, I own a Megger and this was under Building Control. Conversely, I've been less impressed with the neatness of work I've paid for. Was even less impressed when a registered electrician tried to install a female commando as a generator input. I love watching folk who are experts at their work and who care, such as you and Cory. I wish your business success John 👍
Only just discovered your channel (courtesy of the UA-cam algorithm). Good to see what you’ve been up to post-Artisan & hope your business continues to grow… And you get that bloody garage sorted! 😂
Massive respect for having the guts to go out on your own! I stopped watching AE last year as I feel like Jordan acts like a CEO of a major corporation. 2 things. 1) if you plan to continue with UA-cam, try to film in landscape, it’s just more UA-cam friendly. 2) do not rush things. As you said, let things grow organically and it’ll be much better in the long run. I wish you the best of luck and I can’t wait to see you flourish!
Love the quote, "I don't like peddling shit" 101, mate, you stick to your guns. I set up in business 8 years ago as a consultant, and it's hard to balance the books, the first year is the hardest by far. Keep up the honesty and hard work, and it will pay off in the long run. Best of luck
Top man, glad to see you going well. Started out on my own 18 months ago. Difficult at the beginning but do good work and the clients come back. Getting easier all the time.
John I'm not an electrician or tradesperson but really enjoyed your appearances on AE and now this channel, it's always a pleasure watching someone who knows what they're doing. Keep it up!
Just had this video come up in my feed and it's an instant sub from me AE we're stupid letting you go then Jordan jetting off to exotic destinations discusting if you ask me also subbed to Cory Keep up the honest hard work
Love your videos and honesty keep going mate, been self employed for 36 years the easy days are when you are inundated with work and not looking for work, you will get there good luck
While Jordan messed up massively by laying you off, he's actually done you a massive favour, as it means you're not stuck with his sinking ship while he goes abroad non-stop. What frustrated me more was I only found out about your channel a couple of weeks ago. No one at AE has shouted out your channel or anything.
@rangersfcf1 In his words "I'm not making a big deal out of letting you go". He released a live video but got a big backlash about letting me and others go while abroad so he deleted it. They also delete every comment that mentions me on their videos.....
Get a recommendation for an accountant to take care of your tax affairs. In my experience it takes that pressure away and makes sure you gain the financial benefit from the value of your existing assets in reducing your tax liability. From what I have seen from your work with Artisan you will have no problem getting work because your work ethic and standards are high. All the best John.
I think Lee and the lads just want to get on with the work and we now realise that when it says 'Artisan Electrics' it really means 'Jordan'. There's no team inclusivity there at all so I doubt very much if the rest are allowed to point you John's way. Jordan's playing of the smallest violin in the world back-fired and he thinks that coming back for a few days and shooting a shit-ton of videos to be spread across the month makes it look as if he's here the whole time when we know he's not. You notice in his 'What I'm doing now' video when there's something 'good' or 'positive' he says 'I'. When there's something 'bad' or 'negative' he says 'we'. All the lads looked up to John, he was the most experienced there. Glad you've done your own channel John.
Instant sub - I was wondering how you were doing. This was a real honest video, unlike a certain other channel and all the better for it. It's like an electrican "unplugged" (pun intended) from all the glitzy nonsense. Thoms Nagy is the OG and is finally back, but he's all about highways work now, so I'm only watching him for old time's sake. Nick Bundy churns out the videos but has said he has ADHD and is clearly quite manic in his videos. Both of those channels are still infinitely better than you-know-who's. Please cut the swearing - my family watch UA-cam on our television. I assume you do not swear in front of your own family. Thank you.
Thanks for uploading this, it's great to hear your process and how you've made the decisions you've made. Keep talking it through, it definitely helps us who are in the same position and I hope it helps you realise what you've already achieved 💪
Aside from being made redundant you've started exactly how I have. In the end I just got fed up of my old business partner/director not being innovation forward. I am much happier now having more control over my schedule and type of work. Also I watched Artisan because of Cory/You/Lee not so much for Jordan etc and if it wasn't for yourself and others like Bundy and Mark Alison I probably wouldn't have started my own business. I hope it does well and as and when the work is there if schedules work you're definitely one of the people I'll be calling.
Just subscribed to your channel. I look forward to your inspection and testing videos. I really missed your EICR type content on we-know-which-channel. Good luck mate.
Well done John, keep plugging away at it buddy and you'll get where you want to be. The quality of your work speaks for itself. Say thank you to Jordan if you see him he did you a favour, you look a whole lot less stressed now.
I’m an ex sparky and liked watching you when you were on AEs vids. Loved the banter. Loving your progression so far. I’ve only admiration and respect for ya and what you’re doing.
To be honest mate, i started watching AE when it was just jordan and an Iphone doing proper domestic electrics, personally lost interest a long time ago when it went a completely different direction but you were a breath of fresh air mate, loved watching it when you were on, good luck fella! Ill be watching👊🏻
Hi John, Its great to see your out on your own. It may be hard going at first but it will get easy. Like loads posted I also don't watch AE any more. I think some of Jordans videos are over the top. I did work in a computer shop for a good 8-10 years and build some customer relations by beng friendly and have a joke or 2 with them. My boss was very much find out what they wanted and sell it and good bye. When I left the shop did not last much longer with out me. I did meet him after I left and he did say "that he had no idea of the amount of customers I built up in the shop and that he as sorry for not taking more heeded to what I was doing for the business. I am still busy and have alot of my customers back and also seem to keep getting new ones. Like what you say being your own boss has a plus side. I also do sound and lighting for shows as well which some days I need to be there early to setup which now I can. Just like you can collect your kids from school. Good luck and don't be hard on yourself.
nice one john! both yourself and cory's vids are sooo much better than the artisan ones! not constant sell sell sell, more like here it is... its real 😁 glad you kept going, it'd been terrible if you had called it! im sub'd 😁
John, that's a brilliant video and a great journey you've been on. I'm delighted to see you doing so well. One thing I'd suggest if you're not already doing it - when you talked about tax and mentioned keeping photos of all the receipts on your laptop - I would use Dropbox or Google Drive or something like that to store all your data online as well, so if the laptop goes bye bye (they all do at some stage) you don't lose all your records. Especially because of the 5 year tax thing, but also it makes them accessible from your phone, etc. which can be very useful. Cheers and best of luck for the future!
john, i made it to the end... i am glad you came to the light side, being self employed for me was a no brainer, i HATE being told how to do my job by people. Yes the paperwork (ok laptop work) can be hard... butlike you said in this video, you can make space for your own life, 'not booking stuff in at kid picking up time' for example... and ... BONUS, you can do certs at the pub, they have free wifi ;) (and sadly not free beer)... colleague and i literally say to each other in front of customers 'ok see you at the office' :D
@TheChipmunk2008 I'm deffo gonna be going to the "office" to do paperwork. Once I'm home I find it hard to stay focused. But the booze might be an equal distraction 😂
I totally agree with you , about companies getting paid to promote equipments and specific brands. Most people want to watch and learn for a normal person who are trying to make a living
Would be great to see you do more long form tutorial content as you have that natural mentor energy. You're a good sparky in my eyes because you like Pokémon and Pratchett.
Hey John - greetings from Australia, have been un-subbed from Artisan a while (just haven't enjoyed the direction of their content). You were an instant sub when you popped up in my UA-cam recommendations. I'm not an electrician and I'm half a world away, but I enjoy watching people who are skilled at what they do doing it well. You've always delivered that in spades. Best of luck to you with the business, if you apply even half as much care to it as you do to being a spark you'll knock it out of the park.
I'm the other way, I've always been self employed. Once you're set up you'll never go back to employment. You cant put a price on the freedom it gives you. My recommendation. Once work is regularly coming in dont book in anything for Fridays. Use Monday - Thursday for scheduled work. Make sure you're charging enough to cover your time on the Friday. Fridays for me are any of the following: Paperwork, quotations, finishing jobs that may have overrun, callouts or little jobs that come in during the week. Basically anything you don't want to do in the evening. It's all part of the job at the end of the day. Nothing worse than it taking precious family time away from you!
Great to see you back where you belong: passing on your skills to the next generation. You were wasted at AE. It's good to see you being yourself. Wishing you all the best mate 👍
I got made redundant like you after working for firms for 15 years. I didn't want to be in the industry after bad experiences with companies and was kinda depressed but my wife convinced me to start on my own. It was weird waiting for the phone to go after always having work for 15 years that I didn't have to think about! I like you subbed to a local sparks and built up. He always said it take a good few years to build up a reputation. Been on my own 14 years now and it's the best thing that's happened to me in work. Good luck, it'll all work out as you're a knowledgable sparky which is worth its weight in gold.
Any metal can go to scrap, if you regularly use the same one you can build up credit over time until your scrap is worth something then they can transfer the dollaroons to your bank. Where we live cardboard is something the council collect so long as it's small enough to fit in the recycling bag, Stanley knife to the rescue!
Go Limited as soon as you can. You only pay tax on your profit and dividends (dividends at a much lower rate than income tax) and it is only charged once a year. The first year you will work a year, get your accountant to do your books, and then you have nine months to pay after that. I struggled for years as a Sole Trader, everything improved once I went LTD.
Go on John keep at it. Jordan does my f**king nut in nowadays its gone from a sparky channel if seeing actual graft to crap like ooooh look at this stupidly expensive tesla battery or look at me skiving off while all rhe lads graft. Youre better off out.
Hi John, brilliant that your up and running again, your a brilliant electrician mate. Please spend a bit of quality time to sort out the garage and the van, as you'll end up spending wasted time "hunting" for stuff constantly. Looking forward to your video's. As you say you've had the push you needed and you'll thrive moving forward. Alex.
@@John_Faultless nice one, it’s all uphill to start, you’ll get the basics sorted and relax into running your own business. Remember the old saying… you’ll never get rich working for someone else..!! Cheers John.. Alex.
Hi! John please for you to go and be yourself and starting new self employed which is new to you but hang on for while and keep your spending an eye try to stop an necessarily spending wishes you all the best keep up tight while you settle down thanks bro
Just found your UA-cam channel John, massively disappointed when Jordan dumped on you. I don’t support artisan any more, they have lost their way. New sub here for you, wishing you all the best, keep going and well done. Best regards 🍻👍👍
it is a difficult jump from just being employed - you now wear many hats ;- electrician , foreman, surveyor / pricing , credit control & business man - You have probably not taken any courses for those and this is why 5 o'clock you change hats to do all other chores...it takes time & a few cock ups is best way to learn...word of mouth is best form of advertising & free ---good luck with the venture John ..
On an aside, I don't run a small business, but if I did, I would find an accountant who was fully computerised where they offered a platform to record all ad hoc purchases via a phone app, and I'd get some sort of customer invoicing web service that would deal with the initial invoicing, recording payments and initial chasing of late payments. In your case, I'd also look to a computerised tester that can record everything and generate EICs etc via a laptop or pad app. That's just me though, because I destest admin 😄
i am currently training to be an electrician, pretty much for the same reason as you although i do think i may be a bit old at 38, but i guess that could be an advantage. i am loving your content, maybe you could just build your racking in the shed with some 2x4 and mdf sheeting? i have my eicr and testing assessment next week, so hopefully that goes well, then i can start my nvq
Jordan messed up massively by laying you off, he's actually done you a massive favor, when you were at Artisan you were perfect to help teach the apprentices i hope in the future business starts to build I how get your own apprentice sorry got redundant from Artisan Electrics but nice to see you have setting up on my own with Faultless Electrical Services
Hi John just come across your content , didn’t realise you’ve left AE , well things happen for a reason, so this could be a new start all best , I watch AE ,sometimes , and other electric channels to learn , when I get chance , as l working full time apprentice electrician 💼 ⚡️👊 ps Milwaukee pack out his the best practical and also you can take out and store it in your garage for safety .
I used to watch AE when it had you on it but didn’t realise you got shafted. I stopped watching it when you stopped appearing coz it was just the same boring stuff of self promotion and adverts. AE will still do very well because of the high end clientele they have managed to tap into. They are also prepared to pay the extortionate prices he charges. Anyway enough about that. Glad you are back doing your thing for yourself. If you ever need a subby to give you a hand, give us a shout - I am available weekends!
What about offshore John? I’ve been offshore 6 years now after giving up the commercial/domestic and maintenance call outs. Wouldn’t go back to that, money and time off is just too good.
Most of the Contant worked vertical since it was mostly you talking to the camera. When it's showing stuff that's when horizontal really is better. But don't be limited by that you could take vertical push it to one side and then put something else next to it I know somebody who does this with text. Yeah so just be aware of what you're trying to show and whether Portugal landscape is gonna work better for that..
Even though you knew that underground board was isolated may be wise to not show conductors and fingers in same picture in case someone who does not know better does it to a live one.
John, you're not an influencer in my mind. You're a sparkie and that's why I watch. Bless you brother and hang in there.
@metrotechguru5863 Cheers mate, that's how I wanna come across 👍

My "DIY" CU got a compliment from the EDF chap for neatness when he came to replace the service fuse.

Alex.
@@alextripp1230 It's on my list 😅 racking for the garage is being delivered Thursday 😌
@@John_Faultless nice one, it’s all uphill to start, you’ll get the basics sorted and relax into running your own business. Remember the old saying… you’ll never get rich working for someone else..!! Cheers John.. Alex.

Good luck I’m sure your going to smash it nothing like having your own business 👍
@delspark Cheers mate 👍
I’ve noticed the lack of EICR videos since you were let go….. just seems to be Jordan making people uncomfortable at shows 😂 Well done John
@@TwoFace240 I'm hoping to do more teaching content around inspection and testing in the future. Thanks for the support 👊
Just found your UA-cam channel John, massively disappointed when Jordan dumped on you. I don’t support artisan any more, they have lost their way.
New sub here for you, wishing you all the best, keep going and well done. Best regards 🍻👍👍
Good luck brother, have just started the self employed journey myself
@@louislevine3028 Good luck! 👊
Is that really your surname? that's mint
it is a difficult jump from just being employed - you now wear many hats ;- electrician , foreman, surveyor / pricing , credit control & business man - You have probably not taken any courses for those and this is why 5 o'clock you change hats to do all other chores...it takes time & a few cock ups is best way to learn...word of mouth is best form of advertising & free ---good luck with the venture John ..
It has/is been a steep learning curve for sure. Cheers mate 👊
Magicarp the og well done
omg! that podcast!!! lol ! @22:00 you had like the best podcast appearance on there hahaha
It was wild!! That comment section will go down in history 😂
Leave all recyclable rubbish with the customer, specify that in the quote.
Please turn phone sideways if videos are for youtube only.
Good luck !
Good luck John
Do a video on Artisan boss and firm
Dig the dirt

We always leave the customers rubbish with the customer, they can put it in their wheelie bin with no problem
Big up brother!

Great video and keep going John!
@electrician247 Cheers Mark 👊
You’re be getting sponsored by tradify in no time😂
Looking forward to more content👍
@@Robstorr86 I actually use Tradify 😂
I used to watch AE when it had you on it but didn’t realise you got shafted. I stopped watching it when you stopped appearing coz it was just the same boring stuff of self promotion and adverts. AE will still do very well because of the high end clientele they have managed to tap into. They are also prepared to pay the extortionate prices he charges. Anyway enough about that. Glad you are back doing your thing for yourself. If you ever need a subby to give you a hand, give us a shout - I am available weekends!
@snail5967 Cheers mate, I'll deffo bear that in mind 👊
Well done and keep up good work will follow your channel 😊
If fancy a co operation video 😊let me know
What about offshore John? I’ve been offshore 6 years now after giving up the commercial/domestic and maintenance call outs. Wouldn’t go back to that, money and time off is just too good.
You are well shot of Jordan.
Are those Hager mobs correct for that board? They look like the 6ka domestic version not the ADA ones?
Did you feel the same way about Jordan? And do you know what happened to Rhuben?
@billsbasementworkshop1902 Reuben is still at AE completing his apprenticeship I believe.
Really like you mate, if you have any old house batteries you have or can install at mine near Bishops Stortford let me know.
I may have missed this but why did AE lay you off?
Most of the Contant worked vertical since it was mostly you talking to the camera. When it's showing stuff that's when horizontal really is better. But don't be limited by that you could take vertical push it to one side and then put something else next to it I know somebody who does this with text. Yeah so just be aware of what you're trying to show and whether Portugal landscape is gonna work better for that..
Even though you knew that underground board was isolated may be wise to not show conductors and fingers in same picture in case someone who does not know better does it to a live one.
If they have decided to renovate, why do you have to pay them?
C3 for type AC if they were ok at time of installation
