Thanks for this video. I have often wondered how many tens of thousands of Covid deaths in the US, and hundreds of thousands of US Covid symptoms may have been avoided and/or mitigated with a reduction in obesity? And exercise helps treat obesity………seems like we should have been advocating exercise for decades. I am a 65 year old who cycles 70 - 100 miles/week, and I know what benefits I get from it. Yes, it is a chore…… it a worthy one!
I used to be obese and I wanted to loose weight. I started by watching what I ate then started exercising in 2008. I have kept up this lifestyle. My weight has fluctuated however I haven’t gone back to the weight I was. I have kept the weight off now for 14 years now. I feel so much better now! My husband and kids add exercise to their lives now. My schedule is 3 days cardio, 3 days strength training, and day 7 I may walk, do light cardio, or Pilates.
I really miss working at a horse ranch. A lot of walking, shoveling, lifting, stretching (when grooming), running ect, then the joy of riding. Was a Zen for me. I like doing work with an outside sense of accomplishment, don't like gyms, boring. Now I do heavy duty yard work. Thank you doctor for your videos, always helpful. Still miss the cats tho!
Why are you no longer doing this job?
@@aaron___6014 Urban development. Horse farms, ranches even pristine woods giving way to new expensive housing, golf courses, road ways ect. No place even to ride. The ranch where I used to work is now storage facilities and airport expansion.
@@zsigzsag Miss the cats too!😻😻
@@dorisemone6778 I thought they had their own channel now. I did subscribe to it but haven't seen anything uploaded in awhile. I do hope he brings them back on his channel.
You're 100% correct. I'm 72, been exercising moderately since high school. No car, I'm a cyclist, indoor rowing machine, lite weights. Organic fruits and vegetables little meat. Been a carpenter most of my life. Buying groceries by bicycle forces me to choose my food very carefully because I have to carry it on my back. No processed or junk food. I stopped in-store shopping because of Covid but I still exercise 5-6 days/week. Moderation is important. My friends who trained hard now have joint problems. My last doctors checkup was in 1972 when I got married. So far no ailments.
Moderation in exercise, healthy food and get rid of mental stress.
I feel the same today as 50 years ago (sorta, ha), wear the same size clothes since my 20's (ok maybe an extra size on the pants but it's close). Getting ready for my little workout right now. Quebec.
Thank you Dr Moran. The exercise i am enjoying most is gardening. Not only gardening keeps me active but i benefit from the fresh air and vit D From the sun. All these are essential for health.
Great video. Thanks for the information and gentle reminder of what to include as I work toward better fitness at age 71!
You are so welcome!
This just what I need to start working out again great info thank you
Happy to help!
Thanks, Dr. Moran. This is yet another highly beneficial video.
You are welcome!
Although I have more comorbidities than any has a right to due to genetic mutations and age, my choice to live off grid in the mountains for the past 33 yrs has served me well since you have to be active daily. While it did not save me from OC, it did make a huge difference in my ability to recover from 2 major surgeries 9 days apart. I personally don't tolerate non activity well at all.
I’m at the gym 5 days a week. Yoga, kick boxing, body works.
Thank you Dr Moran for this video. There is much good advice contained here.
Useful information and a very important topic if we want to improve our health. Thanks doctor. What I personally find motivates me the most to exercise is to break it up throughout the day rather than doing it all in one go. Having to make yourself to exercise for 30 or 60 minutes straight is not easy (and could be hard to find time for too if you have a busy schedule), but doing it in bits of 5-10 minutes several times a day, especially in between sedentary activities, I seem to get a lot more done.
I'm pleased to see that you hadn't mentioned that exercise isn't an effective weight (fat) loss strategy. I do HIIT and pushups twice a week. Walking but no jogging or walking. No sarcopenia, &c. Great stuff, Doc! Thanks!
I always appreciate your videos; thank you!
Thank you, doctor!
My pleasure Maggie!
Thank you as usual for your wonderfully informative videos, Dr. Moran.
thank you my friend, most precious wisdom you give us
So nice of you!
Unfortunately I know many healthy people who exercise who have chronic illnesses. Maybe helps but not the 100% answer.
Greatly appreciate you, and your no frills, direct, honest, sensible and scientific approach to exercise, and maintaining a quality of life as we age. Miss your videos with your cats meandering around in the background.😸Thank-you, kindly. Be well.
Ballroom dancing is a great activity as you get older. It combines cardio, strength, balance as well as memory, social interaction and dressing up 👍
After being a full time care giver for two years my cardio capability deteriorated a lot ,when I still worked I could go Al day at moderate labour
Been doing High Intensity Interval Training for 6 years now. Tough 30 minutes but we’ll worth it!
A friend of mine who developed spondylitis was given this advice by his doctor "Buy a dog" = Get out the house and get walking!
Great Informational video... Thanks : )
Glad it was helpful!
Always enjoy your videos. 👍
Glad you like them!
Great video. I'd love to see more from you on what an effective strength exercise program looks like, particularly for someone who does fairly vigorous cardio. Would pushups and plank be enough, or do I need to do something to fold in other muscle groups?
I wonder if there are health & exercise benefit studies on Rapid Breathing exercises that are worth Dr. Moran's review 👀
Exercise, that's discriminating against the obese. And how are pharmaceutical companies supposed to make money if you're active & healthy?
Protein supplements, energy drinks, etc...
My New Zealand based South African doctor used to pretend he was upset with my diet and exercise routine because how was he going to pay for his trips home to Sth Africa if everyone was as healthy as me .
Why can't the US government mandate exercise instead of mandating vaccine?
