What you will really need on an airport carry on: Cash, neck pillow, eye covers, boarding pass, chargers, pen, earphones and if you are going to have a long-haul or long overnight wait at the airport, some snacks and a small blanket can help.
This video is awesome!! I carried many of these items when I had a mission in Puerto Rico. I became the 'go to' person for various things while there and other missions. Always be prepared!! Love it!
The Top 5 "Must Have" Items In Your Airport Go Bag 1. A Parachut 2. A Defuse Kit 3. Extinguisher 4. A field Bed 5. A Throw Hook LOL there is writen "überleben" on it, it is German and means "to survive".
Would love to see what else you carry, alot of good insight, i am new to edc type kits but have never flown so would like to understand more of what the best things are to carry and not to carry. Thank you for the very good and informative video.
Quick question, I know this video is older but what's the name of the bag. I have been looking for a streamline bag and like the looks of this one. Thanks and good work!
When you say "airport" go bag, i figured it would be about gear you might need to use in an airport, but what do you need a water purifier, paracord, fero rod and tape for in an airport? Also, i'm a flight attendant and go through security pretty much everyday, i once was planning to bring an expensive fishing reel with me in my cabin bag, good thing i asked security a few days before doing it. they told me the reel would be fine as long as it isn't spooled with braid or mono because it could be used as restraint or to strangle someone. So i'm a bit surprised to hear you going thru security with paracord! Don't get me wrong, i'm all about preparedness too and the gear presented in your video is some good stuff, but most of it isnt really useful in an airport, what do you think?
@will smith Understood but he says he has all this stuff in his carry on bag. That is the point Chuck74 is making. Most of that stuff won't pass through security. Plus, why raise your profile carrying it. If you need it, check it.
Im assuming you are packing all this and checking the bag? Not sure how much of this makes it past security and why you would need almost any of it on a plane.
A few things I would add to your bag is a bag or pouch to put all of the stuff that they have you take off to be x-rayed at the machine, like your watch wallet cell phone and everything that you may have in your pockets along with your belt and shoes, and of course have either flip flops or slippers that you can put on to get to your flight and you can take your time putting them back on as you get there. Have some chapstick, an MP3 player or an IPad so you can listen to music or watch a movie while you are flying. As far as the duct tape get gorilla tape and put it in your luggage and since you can’t have a knife if you go to other countries you can have a multi tool that can also be in the luggage bag that you check in at the airport.
That is certainly a good call, VAMobMember. I definitely keep a 25,000 mAp battery charger in there. I didn't make it a "Top 10" because of the fact that we are in an airport with tons of charging stations, as we wait for our flight. Thanks for sharing. -Hg

Different people need/want different things. Good thing you took the time to announce that the contents of this gentleman’s bag are not the things you personally need. He’ll be happy to know he’s at no risk of you stealing his bag.
Well.. If you have work to do in far away countries (Eritrea, Pakistan, USA....) water in your hotel is not always safe to drink. So either buy bottled water or purify it yourself. (Also don't eat salads). Getting sick on your trip sucks.
I don’t think that you will ever need a whole roll of duct tape, so why not just roll 5 or ten feet. Put one strip in front and one strip behind on one of the shoulder straps and roll it around the shoulder strap so it looks like it got ripped and you tried to patch it up with the gorilla tape, it may not look really cool but it will get the job done for you. Or you can just throw a roll of the duct tape in your luggage bag that you check in at the airport!
If you're worried about catching a dose of the sh*ts, a small bottle of hand sanitizer should be #1 on that list. Leave the tactical pen at home. Paranoia has reached such a level that I got questioned in Johannesburg over my Mazda car keys; guy on x-ray machine thought they were a switchblade.

Body armor? Not for whatever job, but for specific airport use, including for family members. Absolutely ridiculous. How is that tiny sheet even going to protect you? Also who brings tape on an airplane? Who are you planning on tying up?
those low i q security screening workers at airport keep taking away my 1/2 inch emergency philips screwdriver, on my keychain away...need to order more from china/ebay....they take about 6 wks to get here.
I agree, when he goes through security , they will make him stand in one of those specially designed plexiglass cattle chutes for his type while they rummage through his carry-on bag. The computer system will be busy scanning his bag along with his photo. The red flashing light will activate and three or four big burly armed security guards will appear out of nowhere, grab him and take him back to that "special" room for further questioning. He will miss his flight.
a lot of these items are ridiculously expensive.....ive looked up most of what you carry and so far the amount comes to 650.93 dollars....just too much for me. But thanks for the video and concept
Eddie Rodriguez you know you can start with simple inexpensive items that will serve the same purpose, you can get a fairly good flashlight and headlamp at Walmart for under $10 each, para cord at Walmart is about $6.00 the bag you can get an inexpensive one for less than $$20.00 the tactical pen, you can get one at Big5 for about $30.00 ferró-rod about $10.00 the spork is about a buck in Walmart. You can start your pack with about $100 and you may not need all the stuff that he has. Choose what you need to have. You may want to have an MP3 player instead of the filter if you are just traveling domestically. You may want to ditch the electric tape and just put the gorilla tape in your luggage that you check in. You may not be able to take a knife into other countries but you can put a leatherman in your luggage and nobody will question you about that. You can also get a britta water bottle to filter your water. Or something similar you don’t need to spend all of that at the beginning. As time goes on, you can replace them with better quality items and go nuts. You may want to have chapstick and a simple plastic bag so you can throw all of your stuff in there when they have you take off your watch empty your pockets take off your shoes belt and cell phone. After they run it through the machine you can simply put it in the bag and go to your flight and take your time putting everything back in it’s place.
I traveled over 50,000 air miles last year; 4 different continents. This year, I am at 25k air miles, 3 continents thus far. Not one issue with my tactical pen or any of the other components in my Airport Go Bag; hence this article. Thanks for sharing your opinion, it is appreciated. -Hg

Hello Chaos, and thanks for the comments. I have traveled through 4 continents with this bag, quite extensively. I get contracted to teach in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Germany, Portugal & Brasil, a couple of times per year. I just got back from Brasil 3 weeks ago. My bag was with me and it was never an issue. When I arrive in these foreign destinations, with very few acquaintances if any... I need access to my gear. I understand what you mean when you state that checking in this gear is a better option. However, just last year, my luggage was lost and sent to a completely different country, 2 times. I was without clothes but luckily, had my airport bag with me. I was able to buy some clothes in order to teach my courses but... My other gear would have useless and possibly lost/stolen in the process. Let's face it, this gear isn't cheap by any means. Let alone the extra confidence that it gives me when I'm roaming the unfamiliar streets; especially in "shady" areas. There is also extra charges for checking in bags; especially on the bargain, International flights. That extra $50-$100 that I save on each trip, goes a long way.
