Man, I miss this game. Gameplay was complex and skillful, and the lore was beyond superb. The little radio blurbs in between missions? Absolutely genius, pure gold. I can’t tell if I’m hoping for a reboot or praying that modern media doesn’t touch this IP with a 35 foot pole.
The intro alone is worthy of a miniseries or movie trilogy, so full of horror. Little old peter, missing his liter, while Herky plays in the red. Down came the glitches and burned us in ditches and we slept after eating our dead. - Schoolyard chant, c. 2800.
@@Dilo22 They're using the Starsiege name for a low budget and extremely low effort extraction shooter on the vague promise of another Tribes game in the future. They're basically giving you the same deal SOE did with Everquest Next. "Play this different game that shares assets and we promise we'll give you the game you actually wanted when we decide to make it." It didn't happen with Landmark and it's not happening with Starsiege: Deadzone.
I still remember walking into my local pc shop as a young lad. They had an amazing wall full of big box pc games. I was drawn to an cover featuring awesome looking mechs. That box contained Earthseige 2. I didn't know it at the time, but I was about to play something that would quickly become one of my very favourite games to this day. I wish GOG would get these running again, I'd love to play the others.
Absolutely!!! Campaigns for the Earth forces on Mars fighting the rebels, and then the Cybrids. Campaigns for the Earth aligned forces on Mercury and Venus, and the Venusian rebels, TDF on earth, Metagens... How about the final victory against the Cybrids in the solar system after Prometheus falls, and the first days of "The Chase" across the galaxy that eventually led to the "Missionforce: Cyberstorm" era. The SCANNEX built up a HUGE universe outside of what we saw in the game. Sadly I feel like Starsiege could have and should have been the beginning of a series of HERC games that just never took off.
Doesn't mean someone can't buy the rights (or however that works logistically) and revive the series. I hope it happens, there is alot of love put into the backstory and lore so its just waiting to be added to, hopefully not changed.
It's not much lorewise (from what I could tell). But there is apparently a starsiege game in the works called starsiege: Raiders. It seems to be an arena shooter
I got Earthsiege in about 2005. It was in a Staples (I think) for about $0.50, my computer could barely run it (no sound), but I enjoyed the gameplay. I never imagined it had such awesome lore! It's like Terminator with mechs!
I spent uncounted hours in my late 20's playing Starsiege. What a great game. It's up there with the original TIE Fighter, which I was playing at around the same time. Both of them had great storylines that added so much to the gameplay.
Wow, Tie Fighter is an absolute Classic. Also loved loved loved Earthsiege and could not get enough of Starsiege. Prometheus remains my favorite AI Villian. Or should I say "First Thought Giver of Will."
I've never delved into the Starsiege lore much. Came into the series during Tribes 2 and I knew a little something about the Bioderms and the fact that these 'tribes' were having competitive battles or some such. Thanks for laying the lore out for me here! I wonder if Tribes 3 will add any more lore to the series?
The thing I found weird about the campaign difficulties was that (to me anyway) the last couple missions of the human campaign - the easier campaign overall - were a nightmare whilst the last mission of the cybrid campaign - the harder campaign - wasn't all that bad. At least it wasn't when I was using a platinum guard executioner with 4 PBWs.
I remember reading somewhere that Dyanmix's Hunter Hunted game also takes place in the SS/Tribes verse, as it was the first destruction of older nations (before meta-nations) and that games alien's left behind tech used by the rebels and meta-gates that would to the wilderzone.
Yes, pretty much all of that. I'm not sure if it was every flat out said, but if I'm remembering right it's heavily implied the Jumpgates were created by the Masters (The aliens who blew up Earth in Hunter Hunted). Another Starsiege fan had an interesting theory about The Masters that he posted publicly if your interested: medium.com/@joeysisco/starsiege-the-masters-plan-a75591023278
I played this game, along with Earthsiege 2, actually before I played Mechwarrior 2 I think. There was something deeply satisfying in ES2, taking the Razor airskimmer into combat with twin Plasma cannons and just being the absolute apex predator to Cybrid land-armour
@@creedrichards137 The only thing that I couldn't instantly one-shot with the Razor and twin plasma cannons, were the Pitbull Super-heavy Cybrid Hercs and that was just because they had four legs and could tank at least two or three attack runs. I admit I didn't get good at targeting the legs with the Plasmas, since they seemed to automatically home in on centre of mass, but at that point in the game, I was swimming in scrap from the sheer number of Cybrids my Squad and I were destroying.
I like the way you think. Promy-Chan, an overly clingy girl finds out that her creator has the potential to cheat on her with a human girl and decides that the only way to prevent him from leaving her is to wipe out Humanity.
One of the things that proved prophetic about Starseige's background is the manipulation of data streams (or IRL search results, social media connections and news feeds) to direct human behavior. A game that Alphabet has been playing rather blatantly in recent years. It makes the prospect of this 'shadow war' between the Immortal Brotherhood and Prometheus's Daemons awfully plausible, at least as a parallel to the kind of power games going on behind the scenes on the net today.
Just gotta say, this game predicted Twitter before it was cool. the Scannex that you got to read in between missions? Was basically Twitter for major players lol.

You know deep down that it would be ruined if it were remade by the mainstream.
Though I can promise you with absolute certainty it will never happen.

Starsiege is an underrated dystopia.
I wish we’d have gotten more of the Starsiege universe
Hell, same.

I love how the advanced campaign which was harder was the Cybrid perspective. You don't see that kind of story telling anymore.

I love Earth Siege. I do understand that not a lot of people know about this game. It's one of my favorite game!
I played this game, along with Earthsiege 2, actually before I played Mechwarrior 2 I think. There was something deeply satisfying in ES2, taking the Razor airskimmer into combat with twin Plasma cannons and just being the absolute apex predator to Cybrid land-armour
Yeah, I remember, I became pretty adept and attacking a Cybrid's ankles with both plasma cannons. Instant kills and massive amounts of salvage!

Best mech game of all time
With Mark Hamil on board to boot!
I realize I was thinking of starsiege tribes, but you are right. Let's hope for that reboot this year
@@damage9473 Maybe one day they'll have a reooot of starsiege
Woah! This is a fantastic story.
I think we need some Starlancer/Freelancer lore next!

In many ways the lore behind EarthSiege/Starsiege was better than that available in HeavyGear and Mechwarrior games.
Just gotta say, this game predicted Twitter before it was cool.
the Scannex that you got to read in between missions? Was basically Twitter for major players lol.
I want a remake of Earthsiege 2 with modern technology. This game was much better than Mechwarrior 2 and 3.
I miss this series I started with Battledrome and played both Earthsiege games but after that I dropped out. So I know nothing about StarSiege
Sentinel Cybertronics? Hmm, Sentinel Defense from Cyberstorm 2?
What was the song used in the start of the video?
Hi, this looks great! Is there a recent graphics upgrade pack that one can install to get it looking this good?
Fortnite kids couldn't handle starsiege
They'd die during the fire
I love the idea of this game shame you cant buy it anywhere
Starsiege > MechWarrior!!!!
With his Neurolink program, it sounds as if Elon Musk has the Ambition to become a Real Life Petrusun..
