Man I’m so glad to see your taking all the pain and time to do the stripes right… I’ve seen so many beautiful 69 z 28’s that had beautiful paint and then see they did the stripes all wrong… it’s sick to me… thanks for your videos buddy…
A single flaw to your eye would ruin the entire paint job so I'm glad you did what it took to get those stripes right. My ignorance wouldn't know by looking but its nice to see when done like the factory. Beautiful car. My 1967 Mustsng had stunningl paint until it got to MT from CA. 1st winter cracked out the paint over three poorly done repairs. Never prepped the metal, still shiny under repair and paint...
On the rear stripe at the top you measure 5/8 inch down at the inner part of the stripe does the stripe follow the contour of the trim all way across or is it straight across it looks like your gap widens slightly as you come across, also did you clearcoat the basecoat then paint on stripes then clearcoat again, if so why clearcoat under stripes
Does the width of the hood stripes remain constant from back to front? How and by whom were the stripes applied at the factory? Were there variations of dimensions?
Early and late 69 Z/28 stripes on the rear were different. In ‘74 I bought my 1st Z/28, it was a 1968 British Green with white stripes and black interior. A friend of mine is the current owner. When I had my 70 Z/28 stripped and repainted, I layed out the stripes myself per assembly manual. The assembly manual is for Norwood Z rear stripes. Both Plants Norwood and LA Z/28 stripes on the rear differed. The rear stripes were very close to the emblem on LA built Z/28’s. Why, I don’t know. Crazy.
Hi Dawn, Yes, you are correct. Believe it or not, the stripes both had different dimensions because of the Camaro emblem on the bottom left corner of the hood. The drivers side (left side) stripe is roughly 1/4" narrower than the right stripe
looks like you cleared the car before putting on stripes. How long did you wait to lay out the stripes and how did you prep the clear before laying out stripes? Thanks!
@@digitalpizza1 watched video again. Sorry to keep bothering you but before you layed out the stripes, the entire car was cleared? right? How did you prep the hood and trunk and cowl panel before laying out stripes? wet sand with 600? I am almost ready for paint and would like to use the same technique as you. Thanks.....your car looks fantastic.
Hi Wes Yes, the car was cleared, then I waited a few days, wet sanded just the hood, trunk, etc that received the stripes, laid them out, painted them on, waited a couple more days, wet sanded them, then cleared those areas again
@@digitalpizza1 Thanks so much. Look forward to seeing the Lemans car come together, also the red wrecked Z is going to be amazing to see how it lines up for new panels. Thanks for posting.
That is exactly what measurements I used. They are 1/4" on one side and 3/16" on the other side of each stripe. The stripes do not parallel the chrome trim. I used exact measurements from an original paint Z/28 that had never been painted.
I thought the stripes went all the way down to the bottom of the trunk lid? I could be wrong, it's been while since I've seen a Z/28 in person! Beautiful work, though, love watching this car come together!!
Only if the car was not ordered with a rear spoiler. If spoiler was added after, then the stripes will show all the way down the lid and will look silly.
I got a real number matching RSSS 69 Camaro 350 car automatic AC I just want to restore the car back to the same color as yours is Le Mans blue that’s exactly my color on my car
Hi Spanky, I have not finished putting the car back together after the paint bodywork was done, so the final cost hasn't been tallied yet. But the paint and bodywork was about 25,000.00. But that is on the high end because it is better than it ever was from the factory :) Are you going to do the work yourself except for paint and bodywork?
Damn I had 3 or so dollars on me to he said free storage for serious anytime 4 life to. No matter what I was just like damn o well he and she evy1world was like HUH but I was all into what color blue again. See m Harold Gordon know. How come we can't you could t even just guess then I'll keep that for my first 3vs.3 ctrarthang. F.y seshhhhhhhhhh ya 777 up sons,,,,,,’’'’''''''''''
So you couldn't do it and had to pay someone else ,so really some one else restored this car for you did you rebuild the engine or tranny that's what I thought ,ermine white is what GM called there white stripes
Haha cool. Are fellers and ladies no haha for real. Ice paint ladies 1997 red fire engine #777 truck son. Add son. And you'll see the red paint.seriously. was almost sold for 1 us curracy dollar bill. To me I was like thanks so much bud I'm ok. How nice though.
We'll need a 1/18 replica of this car Pete!
Great job looks great, I always paint the color stripes first and then paint the car 👍

you can buy a stencil to paint the stripes
The front end is easy ,so how close is the rear stripes to the chrome on the rear glass from what I've read its a 1/4 inch ,some say 3/16
Does the width of the hood stripes remain constant from back to front? How and by whom were the stripes applied at the factory? Were there variations of dimensions?
Been there done that many times!! What gets me when some guys do a nice restoration and fuck up the stripes!!!!!!!
whats the paint color and code? real nice restoration

Yes, this is a March 69 car
Stripes were further apart
My dream car right there. I would want a 69 z28 dz302 also in lemans blue with the white stripes
The stencil kit is the correct way the lines are different sizes and the stencil kit is accurate..
Check out the Camaro white book specs
I took measurements off of an original Pace Car and I found they were off center (not symmetrical)!
Not all factory employees were perfectionists.

can you share the link to the photos of the original stripes with measurements?
Ok I will post the link
looks like you cleared the car before putting on stripes. How long did you wait to lay out the stripes and how did you prep the clear before laying out stripes? Thanks!
also, looks like you cleared the stripes before removing the masking??
Hi Wes, we cleared the car before the stripes, then we re cleared only the the hood and trunk

What color white did you use ?
Dover White which is the color the factory used.
You painted that awesome car BLUE!!????/
Ah, yes, the original Le Mans Blue that it was born with. That’s what you do when you restore to factory original
Soo shiney
Its close but your to close to the rear chrome trim on the rear of the glass its more like 1/4 inch or 3/16
That is exactly what measurements I used. They are 1/4" on one side and 3/16" on the other side of each stripe. The stripes do not parallel the chrome trim. I used exact measurements from an original paint Z/28 that had never been painted.
How much did the build cost you
Man he puts that white on thick. Why no tack coat first?
All I know is that the stripes came out perfect and beautiful
All the haters own Honda’s and are jealous.
Did you sell that Camaro ?
No, it is waiting for Me to put the rest of the car together. I am finishing a couple of motorcycle projects now and then I will be back on the Z 28

The hood does not look aligned on the right-hand side!

No, I am restoring the car. I have the bodywork and paint done, but I do every thing else myself. The white stripes are Dover White, not ermine.
