  • This is NOT part of the 2nd Z/28 in Garnet Red being restored on this channel
    This video is Part 13 of my 69 Camaro Z28 Full Frame Off Restoration Video Series. This video features the Final Painting Phase - Cut & Polish Process which includes a final sanding of the entire car with 2000 and 3000 grit sand paper to remove all the dirt and orange peel from the paint, then using 3 -4 different polishing compounds to obtain a perfect show quality final paint finish.
    I will be showing each step of the restoration process of this restoration in real time. I hope it will be enjoyable and informative and I welcome all comments and input. I have posted more videos on the disassembly of this 69 Camaro Z28 showing the Dash Disassembly and both the front and rear suspension removal, Restoration & Re-Assembly and the Painting Process.
    Future videos on this car will be produced at every step of the restoration until it is completed. Then, test drives will also be shown as the final installments.

    Thank you for all the videos. It really helps with building a 69 the right way. Your expertise helps so much in planning this build I am on. And I will start documenting and taking videos of the build we are on. Thanks!

    I have just just finished watching all of your videos on this build, and I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed the amount of detail in each video. I am in the middle of a 4 year long restoration of my own 1969 Z/28 and you have given me a lot of really good information. I look forward to seeing the next one.

      Also, there seems to have been a blip in the "cutting of the light", in the form of a tiny bump or wave in the finish on top of the drivers fender, near the hood body gap.
      Right at 12:23.
      Wait 1 second, then you'll see the hump

    I hope you get the red one all fixed up nextand the damage was bad but at least you can see how badly damaged it was and i take it that brunt it took was done many years ago and back in the time insurance would of written it off but it deserves a second chance, these are pure all go muscle cars that need to be saved and preserved great job on the blue one and get the red one fixed bro.

      Hi Mark, Thank you for checking in. I have been getting ready to start on the engine build, which I will have a video or 2 on that process. Then when I am ready to install it, I will have a couple of videos on that. I have been busy with a couple of the motorcycle videos to get them caught up. I will probably have the first engine build video next week. Thanks again, I appreciate the support. Pete

    This is why a good paint job will cost $6500 - $10G. The amount of time and labor involved in body & paint, to get a car to this stage can seem endless. This is even more time consuming for a D.I.Y.er, with the numerous re-do's of steps in the process which can be very frustrating, for this is why You may paint a car ONCE, as a D.I.Y.er once you realise all that's involved. Your car came out nice.

  • @ravenlorans

    Why don't people paint the Inside of their cars? I think it would help protect it. Specially under the roof that seems to be one of the worst areas for rust. Get in all the Nooks and Crannies. All the Hidden compartments. Rear Deck and Dash Fully Painted. Color Match or that Truck Bed Liner stuff.. ALL Surfaces Covered so No Water can get at it... But that's just me...

    • @digitalpizza1
      @digitalpizza1  Рік тому

      All that is true, but in a 100 point restoration, it’s important that the car be restored as it was at the factory.
      So it all depends on which direction the restoration is taken.

    Why aren't they water sanding the body !!!!

    • @digitalpizza1
      @digitalpizza1  4 роки тому +1

      Wet sanding is just one of a number of ways to cut the clear before the buff and polish.
      The finished paint and clear on this car had almost no orange peel or dirt. So it was very easy to cut it before the buffing and polish .
      I think the end result speaks for itself. It is absolutely flawless.

    • @digitalpizza1
      @digitalpizza1  3 роки тому

      Glacier blue was a color in 69, but it was lighter. This is Le Mans Blue.
      There were 3 or 4 different blues in 69

    What did this restoration cost? Seriously. $125,000?????
    Must be really nice to have money be no object in life.

    • @digitalpizza1
      @digitalpizza1  3 роки тому

      Actually, no where near that. If you are reffering to the Paint and Bodywork, it cost me about 20K. It could have been done cheaper, but this is a top notch perfect paint job. And I helped with a lot of the prep work. I will be doing the entire rest of the restoration myself including the engine. So when the car is finished, I estimate that I will have about 53,000 out of pocket. That does not include the purchase of the car, but that was completely covered by the profit from a sale of one of my motorcycle restorations. And btw, that is all spread out over a 5 year timeline so far. So, there are a lot of ways one can restore a car of their dreams if you really work at it and are able to do a lot of work yourself.

    I see a great big "FLAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" in this paint job.
    The paint job is NOT on my 1967 RS Camaro convertible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    This paint job should have been on MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!!
    That's the BIG flaw.... :(

    • @digitalpizza1
      @digitalpizza1  3 роки тому

      LOL that is very funny, thank you for the compliment, I agree with you and am very greatful to the body shop for doing such a great job. They were excited about doing the car and it helped that I tipped the guys doing a lot of the grunt work a couple of times during the process. I think that was a very important factor in the end result.
