For me Illidan is really really missing. Arthas is amazing, but I think through the entire series that Blizz underestimate Illidan (though I am happy they made him so difficult in BC). He has met Sargeras, gaining power from him - betrayed his people (though he had been corrupted to do so), absorbed the Skull of Gul'dan, killed varamithras setting back the Legion by a huge amount during Archimonde's invasion, got the orb of Kil'Jaeden. I could never really wrap my head around how Arthas could beat him. He seems unbelievably powerful. He even has crazy legendary weapons, and is born with a natural gift for magic. He was never evil. He was simply misunderstood. That's why I like Illidan so much.
I started playing during late Wrath (2010), but didn't get to top level till just befoer the cataclysm. So i missed out on the developing story with the Lich King. However, I did get to do it with Deathwing & the whole Twilights Hammer storyline. So for me, Deathwing is my favourite boss as I was so engrossed in the story, and wondering how we could defeat him. The 3 stages were challenging and creative, and killing him really felt like I had completed the game. Which I imagine people felt when defeating the Lich King. Stopped playing after that & didn't come back till Siege of Ogrimmar and I discovered your videos which brought me back so thank you Nobbel!
"there must always be a lich king" Arthas as the Lich King actually held the scourge in check. Without Arthas using them for his own ends; zombie apocalypse time. Powerful heroes can kill as many undead as they like, they'll end up on their own fighting unending hordes with no food or shelter. I actually found that a MORE compelling point than the theme itself. Fact is, being consumed by a mindless, pointless and directionless curse is sorta terrifying.
***** ... Arthas as the Lich King holding the scourge in check is nothing to do with him still showing humanity.... How you could arrive at that I have zero idea. Arthas was hardly the posterboy for being a great and noble person, but he wasn't "a douchebag" in WC3, his descent into madness and evil was rather well done and played into his character flaws. No, it had everything to do with him wanting to gather his strength to take everything. His grand scheme was unlikely limited to Azeroth, considering just how much Nerzul knew about the twisting nether, his understanding that the Titan's could very well return and interfere etc. If the scourge had taken its "natural" course and consumed everything mindlessly, exactly what would have been left for the lich king to use for his own ends? The dead husk of a world with no champions to cull.
You forget that they have a mind for themselves, simply controlled. Example the Forsaken and other Undead who are free from the Arthas' control. Mindless Undead can be easily taken care of compared to those stronger but controlled Undead.
***** Aye, but warring bands of "strong" undead fighting each other for whatever resources they value is again hardly conducive to any plan to prepare for the burning legion or Titans. Arthas/the lich king would not want undead outside of his control, and he did not want to unleash the scourge until he was ready. Without Arthas (or the new Lich King now) the scourge would be completely unchecked. No lich king > no control over the mindless undead > zombie Apocalypse :P
But you forget they have the stronger and improved plague in their arsenal (which they didn't use in the siege of ICC), and the if you're powerful enough to storm into Icecrown and kill LK himself (as well as his powerful minions), I'm pretty sure mindless undead is nothing. It's a way to make Arthas not seem like such a bad guy. I don't like the whole "there always has to be a lich king" thing, because there wasn't predating Nerzhul's curse.
3:55 "I hope that they're going to use Warlords of Draenor as the perfect moment to make Gruul an ally against the Iron Horde - Let's hope so..." (Later that expansion) Weeeeeellllll.....
Couldn't agree more, especially with #1. Not only his story is plain amazing and interesting but the boss fight in WoW and the end scene literally gave me chills.
What I fail to understand is why Arthas didn't just release all of his armies into the Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor instead of calling the Alliance and Horde to Northrend and toying with them...He actually kept the scourge in check...I know he had this master plan to isolate the world's greatest heroes and turn them into his slaves but that ultimately led to his downfall. Although everything DID go according to plan, had the Light not DIRECTLY helped Fordring, he would've won. I kind of feel like he was cheated lol.
One theory goes that Arthas, or what was left of him, was actively fighting the Lich King's will. Had he not cared so much about all life on Azeroth, the scenario you describe would happen. This is also why Bolvar had to sacrifice himself. There must always be a Lich King, or the Scourge would go out of control and destroy all life.
Merth667 So...why did we kill the Lich King again? lol. Also, Arthas cut out his own heart and threw it away after merging so no, there is no more of Arthas's humanity left in the Lich King.
Arthas Menethil The explain to me, wonder boy genius, why did Bolvar become the Jailer of the Damned if Arthas had nothing to do with it? Not to mention Arthas talking to his father just before his *actual* death (end of the lich king boss fight). No, Arthas' humanity was very much intact albeit severely weakend. You're pulling your info out of your ass or some outdated info that got pretty much overwritten at the end of WotLK.
Arthas Menethil And yes, we killed the Lich King that wanted to end all life on Azeroth (an arguably worthy cause to fight for) but upon his death replaced him with a new Lich King. One that is, as far as we know, a king only in title, acting as a jailer to the Scourge.
Man. I joined in WotLK so I never experienced anything before. But Wrath was just such an EPIC expansion to me. The Lich King was, indeed, the perfect final boss. It FELT like a final boss. Man I miss those days. I'm sure the vets want to yell at me and tell me how much better it was back in Vanilla or BC, but I swear, to me, WotLK will always be my favorite expansion. I wonder if there are any good private servers.
***** I think everyone can agree Cata was probably the lowest point of WoW... MoP was actually one of my favorites. WotLK is still my absolute fav expansion, but the gameplay of MoP was fun to me. I liked the change of atmosphere and stuff like pet battles and farming etc gave me more reasons to log in and have fun than to just queue for the next bg/dungeon/raid. The pandaren lore was also really neat to explore. For a long time there was this consensus that the pandaren were just a joke that blizz threw into wc3 for the giggles, but I wanted to see more of them (I had been wanting to see pandaren in WoW since I started playing). Now I'm completely satisfied. Got to see the lore, Pandaria, the pandaren, play a monk etc; But now that the expansion is pretty much over, and we've been stuck without an update for almost a whole YEAR, I just want WoD. And honestly I feel like WoD will be my new favorite!
Link The Hylian Meh, as from a PvP point of veiw I really liked Cataclysm, and the lore behind it was amazing too, just the final raid was shit, so that's kinda sad :i I really just can't stand the "wisdom" of the pandas, they just play superclever and superior, and it's just annoying the shit out of me to get lectured in how to behave, when I'm playing a game called World of Warcraft.. like wtf.. defeating anger, wat..
As an expansion i'd prefer BC since it really took skill to be good. However, as a final Boss i prefer The Lich King not only because it was so fucking hard on Heroic but also because he was the best Villain and final boss there is. He makes me want to be evil...
Imagine if there was a boss in legion, who constantly taunted you with horrible puns, and that was seriously the only thing about him, he just said bad puns. But in his fight while in combat he will say certain puns that give you debuffs like 'Not Amused' which lowers your attack by like, 20% for 10 seconds. He could be called 'The Pun-isher'
i noticed Yogg refered to Azeroth as a "miserable little seedling". Does this mean the idea for a Titan Worldsoul dwelling within Azeroth existed long before chronicles?
The Arthas fight will always stick with me, it was in a great raid. It had a great story and the fight itself was pretty fun aswell. I raided a lot, but this one in my eyes was the best.
I think Death Wing is underrated. He's clearly one of my favorite evils. He have done so much though the stories. He was close to be lord over Alterac Vally and marry Arthas' sister for more political influence for the nobles in Lordaeron. Forced with pure intimidation for the original horde to do his biddings and took Gul'dan's skull from Ner'zul like was it a piece of candy from a child. He made both the Legion and the Nightelf army bow to him and wiped out the Blue Dragonflight with one strike. Yes, all this is in the novels, but what would the novels be worth if we got any little detail handed out in the game?
Mr Raptor I honestly like him more then Arthas. Controls a whole evil dragonflight does horrible mutations and expirememts and then goes crazy during the middle of a war and ressurects his siblings all the time? 10/10
***** i think saying the story of the lich king is number 1 is really a misstatement. Lich King is not a person or boss, although Arthas in WotLK is named Lich King. Its a position really. Ner'zhul, Arthas, and now Bolvar. Arthas's story however is what i find to be the best.
Nobbel, I've seen all your videos. All I have to say is that you're one of a kind. A very entertaining person and I give you all my respects! Can't wait to hear and learn more about WoW!! Thank you!
I loved Arthas / The Lich King as a lore character and boss. Everyone always bashes Wraths story for Arthas showing up everywhere... but it made if feel as though we were working towards him. Deathwing was barely ever around, not until the end of Twilight Highlands, Garrosh was better but as a hordie, still didnt feel like we were working towards him.
Arthas is by FAR my favorite character in all of Warcraft lore. The only other being that comes close is Alexstrasza. The reason I love Arthas so much is because his story is so tragic. He is the ONLY character I actually felt sorry for, the only boss that I didn't actually want to kill. To make me feel sorry for the baddest of the bad, and hesitant to slay him... that's quite a feat of story telling. I stopped playing off and on all throughout TBC. Then WoTLK was announced... At that time, I really wasn't even into WoW anymore, but I made sure I had my Paladin to level 70 in anticipation of the pre-release patch. To me, it only felt right to play a Paladin. It wasn't even my favorite class. I would have preferred a rogue or warrior. But, for story's sake, I played my paladin. That's how much I love the story of Arthas. To me, it was like reading one of the best books ever written. Add to that the well done music, the moving cut scenes, and the sheer scale of the war in Northrend.... There's no way I could have resisted jumping back in!
WoW is truly the best game I've ever played in ~25 years of gaming. I will never forget the screams of elation in Vent when we downed Nefarian for the very first time in BWL back in early 2006, nor the pandemonium in Guild Chat when we finally downed C'thun in AQ40 a couple months later. And then along came Vanilla Naxx - still my favorite raid ever. What a fun challenge that was. The first night we ported inside with 40 of us in total, Blizzard sent two clear messages to us: 1 - We are all evil interlopers for killing Mr. Bigglesworth, and, 2 - we have no idea what the definition of "a very hard raid" is. Well, they were absolutely correct - at least when it came to the latter of those two messages, because for the first night in Vanilla Naxxramas, we basically spent ~4 hours wiping on trash mobs. Sure, we still managed to make it to our first boss encounter of the first night in there, which was Instructor Raszuvious, and my goodness did that mofo hit hard. Alas, by the time we got to him, it was past 2am, and half the raid was asleep at their keyboards, so we called it for the night and continued the following day. And yes, we knew the point of the fight was to have his students (while MC'd by two or more priests with +hit gear) to tank him, but it was not nearly as easy as today's version of the fight which was nerfed big time. I wish Blizzard would patch the current version of Naxx up so that there would be a new "Ultra Hard" mode which would re-integrate the difficulty level of Vanilla Naxx but scaled up for Level 100 raiders. I know a lot has changed since Vanilla WoW, so it wouldn't be exactly the same experience, but the game developer gods at Blizzard are more than up to the task, I'm sure of it. Anyways, what's awfully clear is that I really miss Vanilla Naxx, but I can live with what else WoW has to offer in the form of challenging raids. Blizzard sure knows how to make an incredibly addictive video game - props to them :-)
ro4eva Actually I was one of the raiders who made it to KT, and killed him, the raid wasn't hard by any means. One boss now is more complex and difficult then the whole of Naxx in Vanilla, people weren't as good at the game and that's why it seemed so much harder. Plus the time commitment and finding 39 other people even as a guild was difficult (also 4HM and the 8 tanks needed on them)
Having to farm the mats for the Frost and Shadow Resist, as well as +hit gear was a pain in the ass, as was trying to juggle 40 raiders at a time in tier 2/2.5/3 gear to pay attention. Having to farm 40 splinters for Atiesh was.. ugh. The time requirements were enormous. That place was more of a challenge than pre-patch 3.0 M'uru and KJ in SWP (2.4). Many aspects of vanilla WoW and pre 3.0 TBC were more difficult than recent content IMO. I completely agree that raid boss mechanics nowadays are far more numerous and unique compared to the older content, but it has honestly not felt as difficult to get through compared to the old days for whatever reason. Vanilla Naxx will probably remain my favorite raid. Never managed to get Might of Menethil to drop - that sucked. Edit - Possibly the reason why I feel the way I do regarding vanilla naxx is because we went in there very soon after having gotten the Scepter questline done for 3 guild members, and farming the dragons for NR gear for Princess Huhuran (and killing the Twin Emps / C'thun). It was a shitload of time spent back to back between both raids. Also, with respect to boss mechanics, 15 bosses/boss encounters in vanilla naxx (each quite unique at the time) adds up.
ro4eva If I had to guess, one of the reasons that Vanilla raids felt harder was because raid mechanics couldn't be very inventive due to the limit of the technology. So, instead, Blizz had to resort either to making raiders use brute force to get through a boss, use the relatively limited abilities they had to do weird things in the fight, or (generally) a mixture of both. To use Raszuvious as an example, in Vanilla, players (priests) had to use their native Mind Control spell to control the pupils. In Wrath, that was true for a very short time, but before long, Blizz implemented clickable devices that allowed any player to control a student so that no raid would feel forced to recruit and lug a priest along with them. (That was another thing about Vanilla - raid composition was far more important than it is now). Nowadays, raiders tend to stick to a standard rotation (hence the ability pruning that happened with WoD - those abilities aren't necessary anymore because Blizz can make their own mechanics now without having to rely on building them around players' abilities). So even though raiders tend to do the same thing in a fight, they have to learn more about how the mechanics work. Once they get that, though, the boss becomes a farm boss typically. There's naturally still some hard-capping of "do this much damage" to down a boss, but it's significantly lower by comparison than what it would have been in Vanilla, I'd argue.
I have not watched the video yet. But I must warn you, Mortal Paladin. That depending on where you place The Firelord, will determine the manner in which you burn. Muh ha hah hahaha
Whaaaaat?!!?!? Arthas is there but not Illidan Stormrage?!? Illidan Stormrage was an epic encounter in the Black Temple, required alot of coordination, even a Warlock tank :D Besides his story is even more awesome, imprisoned for 10,000 years by his own brother? for trying to save the Night Elf race/lands by creating a new Well of Eternity and then himself transforming into a demon to save his people all while having a crush on Tyrande Whisperwind and her falling in love with her brother. Then being forced to do Kil'Jaedens bidding he goes to Northrend and try to kill Arthas.. when that failed he fled to Outland, fought Maghteridon and hid away from Kil'Jaeden while creating his own Fel Orc army. Sort of a misunderstood person type character, his intentions were always good but others just disagreed with how he handled things.
If you would remember correctly, you would have realized that illidan first went to outland to defeat magtheridon and right after that KJ showed up to send him to future ICC. You fight as Illidan and friends against maggy and then as arthas against them, and the human campaign was before the undeads
Most people are still pissed about illidans story, I don't consider him a villain. Think about. What was the point of killing illidan? what was the point of killing Burning legion public enemy No. 1?
Omega501st great emphasis on HIS TOP 10, i'm just saying Illidan is a great encounter/lorewise boss, did you see me saying he should put it in there? if not, your comment is kinda stupid
Well actually there is a mine in icecrown that the undead mine saronite. There is a puddle in the middle, and if you swim into that puddle, you see a weird star shaped object. This "object" looks similar to the body of C'Thun, meaning it could be the body of Yogg'Saron. This mine is where all the undead mine the Saronite. I dont know if this connects to somebody or something in the lore, but its pretty cool and you should check it out.
"let them come...Frostmourne hungers" I can't recall a single cut scene with Arthas in it (except for the victory one) that didn't give me chills. Anyone else remember the promo video blizz put out before WotLK was released? I could put that one on loop for 1 year, and I'd get chills every time. I know everyone has different thoughts on the matter, but playing that expansion was truly my all time favorite moment in gaming. All those months of build-up, lvling, gearing, doing the progression. Arthas there with you every step of the way, just begging for an ass-whooping. I'll never forget the first time I killed him. My group had wiped 3x, if I remember correctly. Before the final phase, it was just me (ret pally), 1 tank, and a couple other dps to try and finish him off. All the healers had died. Everything was frantic. everyone throwing everything they could at him; me dpsing and trying to throw enough heals to keep the tank alive; everyone on the edge of their seat... then we all got one-shotted, and the cheering started. Truly the most epic moment in any game I've ever played.
If they didn't fuck up the Illidan's story and made it as epic as it should've been, i think him and Arthas would be tied for the top spot but right now it's definitely Arthas head and shoulders above every other boss.
damn nobbel your list is so on the mark...loved that yogg was on a high mark..the first time i heard of the yogg saron fight I fell in love with ulduar! especially when thorim says "You are not my beloved" and you understand how Yogg corrupted everyone..Keep it up Nobbel! love it!
Rasmus Widebäck Blizz made it shitty in BC compared to the lich kings story in Wotlk. Read up on Illidans story and you'll see that its almost as interesting and good as Arthas. There's at least 5-6 bosses on this list that is "shittier" than Illidan.
I agree with your list, The lichking would be my number one also, simply because in Wotlk it took FOREVER to get to him if you didnt have good gear. And then defeating him was even harder, it was just amazing!
Arthas' father said it to Tirion after the death of Arthas that the scourge must always be controled,if their masters die, they do not simply die with them, they're the damned, bound to walk the wastes of the planet...they'd go on a rampage without anyone to lead them, they'd be completely mindless. "There must always be a Lich King." And that's where Bolvar came in,becoming the new Lich King, but with good intentions, trapping himself in a thick ice barrier and calming the scourge, putting them to rest for all eternity. But there is always a "for now" in Warcraft...so we can expect alot of things. -Most of this is from the wiki..and also ofc from self experience, as I love the lore. Hope this cleared out any confusions. :)
I couldn't agree more with your number 1 on the list, I've played Warcraft since the second game and the Lich King story is truly one that really gets to you. Sure, you have the old gods, the Burning Legion and all that stuff but none of them really has the same depth, and they're not as personal. I also liked the editing you made on this one, magnificant.
Nobel can you make a Lore video on some of the weapons in WoW?? Ashbringer (normal an corrupted) Gorehowl, Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian, Frostmourne etc. Would love to see some awesome ones I can't even think of atm
10:Onyxia 9:Cata Ragnaros 8:Alysrazor 7:Sindragosa 6: Escape from the lich king (halls of origination) 5:Kil'jaeden 4:Medivh chess 3:Vanilla Nefarian 2:The Lich King 1: DEATHWING!!! Thats my top 10 list and if u dont like one of those boses dont hate me for it :3
Nobbel87!! I love every single one of your videos! I am making a Varian cosplay, and as I've been creating it I've been watching every video one by one! I had no idea how much lore there was in wow! Thank you so much for making these!!
My only question is after being revived by the player, why does Teron Gorefiend go to the Black Temple? He has almost no reason to align himself with Illidan.
Arthas was one who gave the scourge even a semblance of order and discipline. Without him, the Scourge would go into a frenzy, and the power of the unchained undead could potentially wreck devastation upon azeroth. Yes, you killed the major badasses, but new corpses, new bodies, are found and revived every day. They can be replaced. The Scourge can never truly die.
Lol... every single time, I have said: "ey, I would love to see that character as a card!" Damit Blizzard! Give us more cards for Heartstone already! xD
12luri The balance of the game is a mess right now, I would preffer if they worked on that, instead of working in adding even more not_properly_balanced_yet content. Also, the game is not even released, I doubt they are working in the second one before even launching the first one. :p That being said... yes, that would be nice. The game needs A LOT more content, right now it feels like... a closed beta. Which it is, so everything is fine.
Arthas's story is my favorite as well. It's so damn tragic. Classic "Road to hell is paved with good intentions" deal. Same as Illidan, really, and most of the bad guys that arent the old gods
I don't remember if it was the "Arthas" book or if it was a follow up quest but they did explain why there always had to be a Lich king. It had to do with controlling the hivelike mind of the scourge, they were described as locusts and if there was no "greater mind" to control them they would just swarm over Azeroth without control.
2 questions. 1: Why is the video titled "top 10 final bosses" when bosses like azshara, millhouse, teron gorefiend and staghelm aren't the final bosses of their dungeons. 2: Where is Illidan, Kael'thas, Kel'thuzad, Archimonde, Cho'gal, Kil'jaeden or Vashj D:
+Zemas One answer covers both questions. These are Nobbel's favorite ten bosses. Not the voted best. A personal outlook of his own choices:) He even said so at the beginning of the video. People had been asking him his favorites..
The Anti-Social Hunter/Lady Dark Shade 2nd question was kinda just me trolling x) i realize it's a matter of personal preference, but the first question still hasn't been answered. The video says "top 10 final bosses" not "top 10 bosses" and a lot of the bosses on his list aren't the final bosses of their dungeon so what are they doing here?
The Final Boss part was mentioned (plug for Final Boss) He clarified was his picks.. Gotta love the trollin' tho. Guess would have to ask Nobbel why he has raid bosses that aren't end bosses that are his faves? lol
I agree with your number one, Arthas was the most bad ass boss ever he was my idol since I played Wc3 for very first time at age 12 - wow that's a 10 years right now xd. Arthas is just too epic, btw subscribing you was the best decision I ever made on the YT ;).
Nobbel, when you announce your no.1 favorite boss. I was 100% with you, I have a deep passion of Arthus story. When WOTLK came came out I look up his history and what has happen I just fell in love him. If i had a wish it would of been letting the patch run a little bit longer. I felt they ended it too fast.
Completely agree with Arthas as number 1. Would love to see a video from you telling the entire story...all my favourite lore surrounds him, people often question why LK was my favourite expansion and the answer is simple i completely geeked out all the way through as i was playing through lore all about my favourite game character....EVER!!! Loved this video, love your videos in general...gg dude gg!!!
There is something i dont get, how did tirion get so strong and why does he deserve to wield ash bringer its obvious thats he is wise but lore wise all he did was save an orc, be one of the first silver hand nights and fight some old wars against the orcs. Then many years later he comes back and somehow stronger than ever after doing absolutely nothing for years instantly chaning the corrupted ashbringer to holy and leading the agrent grusade into northrend and in the end calling the light and breaking arthas bounds and finally destroying frostmourne. Lore wise he should be one of the weakest paladins in the order the only reason people like him is proly becouse he look cool.
Well...He did hold on to his honor and what he believed to be right despite losing everything because of it. Maybe paladins either died or fell to darkness, Tirion did not.
my guess is because he has a stronger will, sense of justice and connection to the holy light. He might even be stronger than uther. You must remeber that being a paladin is not about how strong you are or how mighty in battle you are, but how strong your will and sense of justice is. This is what makes him worthy of the ashbringer.

+MrNamesareoverrated Let's not forget that the souls inside the Frostmourne were fighting hard against it, and during the fight you help weaken it from the inside (by helping Terenas). I believe that a single hit from the Ashbringer wouldn't shatter Frostmourne if it hadn't been the case. Arthas already took one hit from it in holy ground when the Argent Crusade was born in Light's Chapel.
+MrNamesareoverrated You want the real answer? No matter how many times Blizz lets everyone know that the real heroes are Thrall and his Horde (screw Garosh) too many Alliance crybaby scum whine until Blizz throws them a bone. "We are not racists! We are not slavers!" Bah who are you kidding. The only Alliance out there that is actually worthwhile as a sentient being is Jaina Proudmore. So even though Thrall must always show up to save everyone's hides in this world, once in a while Blizz throws the Alliance a bone like Ashbringer. Count yourselves lucky Alliance that Blizz finds you pathetic enough to show you some pity love once in a while. For the Horde! For the son of Durotan!
"It's of coruse, the Lich King" Couldn't agree more. The song like if Matthias Lehner were crying his goodness out before Arthas turn into Lich King for good...and his fall "I see only darkness before me" Now that's an enemy to remember. I really doubt they can develop an enemy that we want to kill and respect more than this one...specially because he's been there since Warcraft III and his undeads were always around from the very beginning of WoW.
I rarely enjoy watching opinion videos, but I think this was incredibly well done. A lot of it has to do with Blizzard's brilliant story telling, but I think your ability to convey a relatively intricate opinion of such a rich story is also above average. This totally didn't seem 30 minutes long.
Your list is really good! And I love the fact that Illidan's not in this list (which he is in many other lists) even though there is so many better lore based bosses. I also find The Lich king as my favorite boss just because of the story. And I agree about your choose to set Nefarian at the position as you did
I love how even though you were talking about Arthas raising you from the dead to join his army, the guy in the video (possibly you) was still running around :P
i did, that would be so much cooler. and considering that Arthas has better gear available then the alliance and the horde,PLUS he can grant us his powers, he would be able to kill every fucking hero in the raid. a real shame.
that lich king cinematic always kills my feels, after following his entire story through wc3. The voice of his father in the background, it gives me serious feels every time.
Well, one reason would be, if the lich king wasnt there to control the rest of his army, they would go berserk and countless lives would be lost. The new lich king keeps them under control, so that the rest of the paladins and the ebon blade DKs can somewhat predict what the remnants of the scourge will do. Arthas, only did what he did in icecrown citadel, in order to gain his most powerful agents (us, the playrs) as his final trumph card, the icing on the cake, the dot on the i if you see what i mean, he allready has a powerful enough army to eradicate most of the world, he just wanted to make sure he wouldnt lose with this plan, so... Turns out, waiting too long, was the end of him :P But after the scourge necromancers are dead, and the lich king can't raise more minions, their numbers dwindle until eventually, nothing is left... So in the LONG run, i don't know why "there must allways be a lich king" : /
***** "But after the scourge necromancers are dead," English 101: This means it hasnt happened yet, smartass. You need more english lessons. Well either that, or you need to read the ENTIRE comment before replying. I also explained why he was the goddamn jailor, jesus are you even paying fucking attention to what you're reading?
***** Have you ever heard of something called "Lore", i bet you havent, but if you HAD, you'd know how necromancers work in the world of warcraft universe. 8 years experience in WoW roleplay, my specialty is undeath lore. I know what i'm talking about.
Nobbel, i have no words about the awesome quality and the way you tell the stories. If u dont like them im cool with it, because its my favs. 10: Not Cata Nefarian 9: Vanessa Van Cleef (because lore) 8: Prince Malchezaar 7: Queen Azshara 6: Major Staghelm 5: Paragon's of the Klaxxi 4: Illidan Stormrage (fav warcraft hero) 3: Yogg Saron 2: Deathwing (too much of a badass to be lower) 1: The Lich King, what could be some else here?
Alexander Bilby Ow you don't mean the transmog look? The original weapon is called Britomart's Jagged Pike drops from Thok the Bloodthirsty in Siege of Orgrimmar
couldn't agree with you more about the last 3 picks.. my childhood was made up mostly of warcraft 3 and fighting arthas was a dream come true.. the story was tragic and amazing.
When i read the title i knew already who would be #1 best cinematic trailer. best backstory. best buildup during the expansion. best raid-buildup. best endboss! even the new one is cool (referring to the dk-artefactquestline)
Because they didn't go back in time in there universe, they went back in-time in an alternate universe, so that durotan and that draka aren't thralls parents
MyFatezero When thrall was created .. and orcs in particular, they didn't have a good backstory, in warcraft 1 there were no brown orcs or grey orcs and when they created WoW they came up with brown orcs to add in the burning crusade .. and needed to come up with a backstory and retconed everything
Here's my top 10 Mr. Nice videos. Number 1 is Kil'Jaeden in the Sunwell Plateau, number two is Onyxia from the vanilla wow raid, number three is Al'akir the Windlord from the Cataclysm expansion, number four is corrupted Cenarius from the emerald nightmare raid in Legion, number five is Kael'thas Sunstrider from TBC, number six is Archimonde in the hellfire citadel in WoD, then number seven is Gul'dan in Nighthold in Legion, number eight is C'thun from the vanilla wow raid, number nine is Garrosh from the siege of orgrimmar in the mists of pandaria expansion, FINALLY number 10 Is Jaraxuss EREDAR LORD OF THE BURNING LEGION
***** LOL ok he was a suped up Death knight, But he wasnt yet the Lich King. Although, that in itself doesnt take away from the battle. at least to me.
"Father, is it over?" "No my son, the raid resets next week."
Good choice for #1, he is clearly the most lore filled and by far the coolest.
"there must always be a lich king"
Arthas as the Lich King actually held the scourge in check.
That was Blizzard's attempt to make that moment touching. Play WC3. Arthas is a douchebag.
*****
...
*****
Aye, but warring bands of "strong" undead fighting each other for whatever resources they value is again hardly conducive to any plan to prepare for the burning legion or Titans.
15:46 I love how the giant fish demon's last word was 'woosssshhhhhhh'
Malachite
...fish demon
Yogg-Saron....
Relatively Sane Yes. I thought it was funny that he resembled a fish & said 'woooshhhh', so I mentioned that he's pretty much a fish demon.
3:55 "I hope that they're going to use Warlords of Draenor as the perfect moment to make Gruul an ally against the Iron Horde - Let's hope so..."
(Later that expansion)
Weeeeeellllll.....
And also, that Lich King Cinematic that you showed at 18:30 is probably my FAVORITE cinematic of all WOW cinematics!
do Halls of Reflection, you'll know why there must be a lich king
The end cinematic explains why there must always be a Lich King.
Almost all the stories of WoW give the same moral...
*You don't fuck with the Light!*
Merth667
So...why did we kill the Lich King again?
There are man. Those good old days could come back.
Link The Hylian Meh, as from a PvP point of veiw I really liked Cataclysm, and the lore behind it was amazing too, just the final raid was shit, so that's kinda sad :i I really just can't stand the "wisdom" of the pandas, they just play superclever and superior, and it's just annoying the shit out of me to get lectured in how to behave, when I'm playing a game called World of Warcraft.. like wtf.. defeating anger, wat..
sebastian kure - "You have control of your fear, now release your anger, only your hatred can destroy me." - Vader
As an expansion i'd prefer BC since it really took skill to be good. However, as a final Boss i prefer The Lich King not only because it was so fucking hard on Heroic but also because he was the best Villain and final boss there is. He makes me want to be evil...
The wotlk cinematic STILL gives me goosebumbs After ALL That Time. *cry in memories* :(
Indeed m8, indeed.... :(
Imagine if there was a boss in legion, who constantly taunted you with horrible puns, and that was seriously the only thing about him, he just said bad puns. But in his fight while in combat he will say certain puns that give you debuffs like 'Not Amused' which lowers your attack by like, 20% for 10 seconds. He could be called 'The Pun-isher'
amazing :D
That would be a fun joke boss, hopefully for a silly achievement and not a raid or anything
+Justin Wilson maybe a one shot raid, like magtheridons lair or onyxias lair
there is a bad pun boss in legion tho
Got your wish.
i noticed Yogg refered to Azeroth as a "miserable little seedling". Does this mean the idea for a Titan Worldsoul dwelling within Azeroth existed long before chronicles?
Given Blizzards writing talent. No.
I wondered about it too for a time but there's no way they planned that far ahead.
they probably had the idea but didn't want to make it cannon until they had fully fleshed out the story.
God damn, the Wrath cinematic always gives me shivers. It's just so well done.
The Arthas fight will always stick with me, it was in a great raid. It had a great story and the fight itself was pretty fun aswell. I raided a lot, but this one in my eyes was the best.
-What are we going to do tonight, Deathwing?
-The same thing we do every night Ragnaros...
- 10:30
19:42
Best timing
"Say Deathwing, what are we going to do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night Ragnaros...try to take over the world!"
few i would add but i completely agree with the number 1. The whole story behind Arthus is quite amazing.
***** i think saying the story of the lich king is number 1 is really a misstatement. Lich King is not a person or boss, although Arthas in WotLK is named Lich King. Its a position really. Ner'zhul, Arthas, and now Bolvar. Arthas's story however is what i find to be the best.
R.I.P. Arthas/ The Lich King, the true king of Warcraft.
There must always be the king because of the scourge. If there's no king, it goes rampage. It was explained in final in-game movie of that addon.
Isnt ner zhul totally dead now?The lich king is now the one that wears the helmet not some spooky spirit in it
Hey Nobbel, could we possibly get a Troll Wars lore video? Quite literally the best period of history
ya i want it too.
Blizzard sure knows how to make an incredibly addictive video game - props to them :-)
vanilla naxx was not hard you casual, it just required insane amounts of time
ROFL - Somehow I doubt you were among the ~2% of raiders who managed to clear it before reset on level 60, but you're welcome to try and prove it.
ro4eva Actually I was one of the raiders who made it to KT, and killed him, the raid wasn't hard by any means.
26:12 "let them come! FrostMourne Hungers!" Sending chills down my spine since the very day I heard it.
I have not watched the video yet. But I must warn you, Mortal Paladin. That depending on where you place The Firelord, will determine the manner in which you burn. Muh ha hah hahaha
Too soon!
Got a badass over here!
Whaaaaat?!!?!? Arthas is there but not Illidan Stormrage?!?
Illidan Stormrage was an epic encounter in the Black Temple, required alot of coordination, even a Warlock tank :D
Besides his story is even more awesome, imprisoned for 10,000 years by his own brother? for trying to save the Night Elf race/lands by creating a new Well of Eternity and then himself transforming into a demon to save his people all while having a crush on Tyrande Whisperwind and her falling in love with her brother.
Not to mention the Legendary panda blades from Wc3, or as they call em in WoW the Blades of Azzinoth ^^
Lennart Zandhuis
i guess noble thought it was not good enough to be in HIS TOP 10
If you would remember correctly, you would have realized that illidan first went to outland to defeat magtheridon and right after that KJ showed up to send him to future ICC. You fight as Illidan and friends against maggy and then as arthas against them, and the human campaign was before the undeads
Most people are still pissed about illidans story, I don't consider him a villain. Think about. What was the point of killing illidan? what was the point of killing Burning legion public enemy No. 1?
Omega501st
great emphasis on HIS TOP 10, i'm just saying Illidan is a great encounter/lorewise boss, did you see me saying he should put it in there?
if not, your comment is kinda stupid
Well actually there is a mine in icecrown that the undead mine saronite. There is a puddle in the middle, and if you swim into that puddle, you see a weird star shaped object. This "object" looks similar to the body of C'Thun, meaning it could be the body of Yogg'Saron. This mine is where all the undead mine the Saronite. I dont know if this connects to somebody or something in the lore, but its pretty cool and you should check it out.
"let them come...Frostmourne hungers"
I can't recall a single cut scene with Arthas in it (except for the victory one) that didn't give me chills.
If they didn't fuck up the Illidan's story and made it as epic as it should've been, i think him and Arthas would be tied for the top spot but right now it's definitely Arthas head and shoulders above every other boss.
damn nobbel your list is so on the mark...loved that yogg was on a high mark..the first time i heard of the yogg saron fight I fell in love with ulduar! especially when thorim says "You are not my beloved" and you understand how Yogg corrupted everyone..Keep it up Nobbel! love it!
No Illidan?
Illidan is shitty as fuck
Rasmus Widebäck Blizz made it shitty in BC compared to the lich kings story in Wotlk. Read up on Illidans story and you'll see that its almost as interesting and good as Arthas. There's at least 5-6 bosses on this list that is "shittier" than Illidan.
Trollingization
This man knows his lore! Take my like, good sir!
sharangcool damn you
Illidan was not prepared ! AHAHHHAHAHAHAh
I agree with your list, The lichking would be my number one also, simply because in Wotlk it took FOREVER to get to him if you didnt have good gear. And then defeating him was even harder, it was just amazing!
Arthas deserves no. 1 on any list!
Dude Wtf!? No OG Hogger?
I love your work Nobbel. Absolutely amazing to listen too and frankly one of my favourite youtube channels.
Father! is it.. over? At long last No king rules forever my son. i see only darkness before me
Ikr I got a little choked up during this cut scene.
I still get goosebumbs when I see that cinematic trailer xD
No Illidan ? Daamn he's just soooo much cool...
***** hes my favorite lore characcter and boss!
Would love to see some awesome ones I can't even think of atm
warglaives of Azzinoth
Did someone say Thunderfury Blessed blade of the wind seeker?
Ironsolute i think someone said thuderfury blessed blade of the windseeker
Definitely agree. Arthas is my favorite character in warcraft lore. He's so complex and his story is sad and badass and ugh. LOVE IT.
10:Onyxia
9:Cata Ragnaros
8:Alysrazor
7:Sindragosa
6: Escape from the lich king (halls of origination)
5:Kil'jaeden
4:Medivh chess
3:Vanilla Nefarian
2:The Lich King
1: DEATHWING!!!
Thats my top 10 list and if u dont like one of those boses dont hate me for it :3
Halls of Reflection:) Halls of Origination Is the cata dungeon.
David Karl Ups :3
One of the best presentations / Jobs I've seen. Really super. Ty for all your work.
This was absolutely entertaining and worth watching a dozen times!! That pice on Nefarian was nostalgic and vivd :P
Lol... every single time, I have said: "ey, I would love to see that character as a card!"
Damit Blizzard! Give us more cards for Heartstone already! xD
there has to be an expansion which will have monk / death knight
12luri
The balance of the game is a mess right now, I would preffer if they worked on that, instead of working in adding even more not_properly_balanced_yet content.
Also, the game is not even released, I doubt they are working in the second one before even launching the first one. :p
That being said... yes, that would be nice. The game needs A LOT more content, right now it feels like... a closed beta. Which it is, so everything is fine.
***** Yea well there is a still some work on that game to make it balanced but it's still closed beta soo i guess it's our task to find those problems
***** *open.
But 100% agreement.
***** hearthstone? People actually play this crap?
Arthas's story is my favorite as well. It's so damn tragic. Classic "Road to hell is paved with good intentions" deal. Same as Illidan, really, and most of the bad guys that arent the old gods
My Top 10 List:
10.Ilidan Sormrage
9.Garrosh Hellscream
8.Kel'Thazaud
7.Nefurion
6.Onyxia
5.Queen Azshara
4.Naxxramas
3.Patchwerk
2.Deathwing
1.The Lich King (Arthus)
Sorry If I Spelled Anything Wrong.
The Anti-Social Hunter/Lady Dark Shade
2nd question was kinda just me trolling x) i realize it's a matter of personal preference, but the first question still hasn't been answered.
Guess would have to ask Nobbel why he has raid bosses that aren't end bosses that are his faves? lol
The chills i get from Wrath of The Lich King trailer. That singing voice is simply making me feel like my blood is freezing!
Great list. For me it's
1. Illidan
2. The lich king.
Arthas is my favourite too, the story, the quests, the voice, it is all so amazing
Arthas, the reason WoW was amazing.. RIP wotlk Q_Q
Jesus, people are hating. This guy is like the best user on UA-cam, all the work and dedication. Big ups, man. Big ups.
Lol i knew it lich king got the best lore ever
He also has awesome mech and the only boss that actually killed us.
Hehe true
Lich King is the best :3
Yup, my first boss that was my enemy was lichking cause wotlk was a beast exp
+Deathgoku and argus
Completely agree with Arthas as number 1. Would love to see a video from you telling the entire story...all my favourite lore surrounds him, people often question why LK was my favourite expansion and the answer is simple i completely geeked out all the way through as i was playing through lore all about my favourite game character....EVER!!!
Loved this video, love your videos in general...gg dude gg!!!
I think everyone saw #1 coming, everyone loves the Lich King! :P
still get chills now when the music for lick king starts up such great memories
Even though the Lich King wasn't the best boss when it came to mechanics that I've ever experienced, he's number one purely for sentimental reasons.
Lich King is my own favorit boss, one of the best story lines ive ever seen in a game!

Let's not forget that the souls inside the Frostmourne were fighting hard against it, and during the fight you help weaken it from the inside (by helping Terenas).
For the son of Durotan!
i've watched some of your videos and i just wanted to say thank you for all the lore videos you have done!!!
I got the Onyxia Mount while watching this,Thank you
"It's of coruse, the Lich King"
Couldn't agree more.
Illidan?
I rarely enjoy watching opinion videos, but I think this was incredibly well done. A lot of it has to do with Blizzard's brilliant story telling, but I think your ability to convey a relatively intricate opinion of such a rich story is also above average.
This totally didn't seem 30 minutes long.
I couldn't agree more about the lich king being #1
Your list is really good! And I love the fact that Illidan's not in this list (which he is in many other lists) even though there is so many better lore based bosses. I also find The Lich king as my favorite boss just because of the story. And I agree about your choose to set Nefarian at the position as you did
I'm fucking stupid... I never made that connection while I mined shit.
Yogg'SARON.... SARONite...
I feel so oblivious
Don't worry, neither did i.....i was just mining away at that shit XD
This is the longest top 10 i've ever listened to
No illidan? No jaeden? No kael'thas?
I love how even though you were talking about Arthas raising you from the dead to join his army, the guy in the video (possibly you) was still running around :P
Am I the only one who wanted to stay in the Scourge side after the Death Knight starting questline? Fighting for the Lich King was awesome
i did, that would be so much cooler. and considering that Arthas has better gear available then the alliance and the horde,PLUS he can grant us his powers, he would be able to kill every fucking hero in the raid. a real shame.
***** ESO not elder scrolls online
***** There is always a third faction. You just can't play them.
It's called End Boss + Lackeys.
that lich king cinematic always kills my feels, after following his entire story through wc3.
Turns out, waiting too long, was the end of him :P
But after the scourge necromancers are dead, and the lich king can't raise more minions, their numbers dwindle until eventually, nothing is left... So in the LONG run, i don't know why "there must allways be a lich king" : /
***** "But after the scourge necromancers are dead,"
English 101: This means it hasnt happened yet, smartass.
You need more english lessons.
Well either that, or you need to read the ENTIRE comment before replying.
I also explained why he was the goddamn jailor, jesus are you even paying fucking attention to what you're reading?
Enzeru
Why'd you get so mad?
***** Have you ever heard of something called "Lore", i bet you havent, but if you HAD, you'd know how necromancers work in the world of warcraft universe.
8 years experience in WoW roleplay, my specialty is undeath lore.
I know what i'm talking about.
Enzeru

The number 1 was ovious to me :D i was just like FUCK YES when the cinematic began...
I never watch anything longer than 10 minutes on youtube but god damn your voice is amazing!
Heres a question....If Durotan and Draka never drank the demon blood....why is thrall green?
MyFatezero short answer: because blizzard f-d up
long answer: because he stood enough time with green orcs so that fel magic turned him green
Because they didn't go back in time in there universe, they went back in-time in an alternate universe, so that durotan and that draka aren't thralls parents
But in our timeline they didnt drink it either
MyFatezero
When thrall was created .. and orcs in particular, they didn't have a good backstory, in warcraft 1 there were no brown orcs or grey orcs and when they created WoW they came up with brown orcs to add in the burning crusade .. and needed to come up with a backstory and retconed everything
Besides, thrall didn't turn green because his parents drank the blood, it was because he was exposed to fel Magic
