  • How to upgrade the carb on a Mercruiser 260/Chevy 350. Stock, these engines game with a Holley 1650. Mine still worked fine, but was developing fuel leaks and I was looking for bit more power, better economy, and a lot better looking solution: enter the Street Demon 625. This carb is a 1 piece design, so theoretically no leaks, smaller primaries for instant throttle response, and larger secondaries for more power.

      Thank you! I built this thing around 10 years ago for a bit under $5,000. It had been sitting outside for 15 years and was a total wreck when I bought it. :)

    What kind of headers are you running?

      Stellings Marine; build to order only. I called them for a quote; they still make them. $10k a pair. I found a once in a lifetime deal.

    Do you still run this carb? I have a 97 Larson 20’ with a 351 that I’m changing carbs on and I seen your video. Price for the carb is extremely cheap so I’m looking for some feed back on use in a marine application.

      Yup, love it! Starts almost INSTANTLY, like an EFI engine, and runs great after tuning it. Do it! No more fuel leaks and looks boss!

    is there an engine cover that you don't have installed?

    • @ADDvanced
      @ADDvanced  4 роки тому +1

      Maybe when it was new. Most were tossed. I’ve never had one and it would not be compatible w the headers anyway.

      Better starting, throttle response, no leaks. I think I need heads to get more flow, already cammed.

    ahh I'm a lil worried....is that a marine carb? Your old Holley I don't think was a marine unit (no J tubes for the vent, no connection for the fuel pump overflow hose) and neither is the new one (beautiful though it is) I don't see the overflow hose for the fuel pump that's supposed to be there also the ignition, that looks like an automotive unit, marine distributors do not use vacuum advance....If you ever had an insurance claim for engine fire that would be a BIG problem if the ins company investigates. Would definitely not pass Coast Guard inspection....

      All of those are valid issues on boats with closed engine compartments. On open engined boats, none of that is required. Also, the Demon is a 1 piece carb, where the main bodies and the bowls are one piece, which eliminates leak points even further compared to older designs with a vertical seam and gasket between the main body and the fuel bowls.

      Ok I can see that; but if the diaphragm of the fuel pump (automotive) leaks it still winds up in the bilge! marine pumps have the extra fitting with the safety hose that goes up to the carb.
      Do you have a marine rated J1171 starter?
      I agree the new carb design is better for avoiding leaks and they seem to have added a Quadrajet like spread bore design with the very large secondary...

      @@Luigi-pk8mk I've had a failed fuel pump twice. Both times it just quit pumping, it did not pump fuel into the bilge. Starter may be marine rated, but again, dude..... open engined boats are exempt from all of this. What you are digging at is the reason you're supposed to run a blower before starting an inboard for a few minutes, which pretty much nobody does. If you want to pick nits, please go harass the thousands of videos on youtube that show people not using their blower. This does not matter on open engined vessels because there is no explosive fume build up possible.

    I believe you put the spacer to carb gasket set on 180° out. Check video to see if you concour.
    I like my street demon carb.
