Hello Mike. Would you be able to give a short summary of your Whitefish Tactics throughout the open water season? For Example May/June Bobber with Chironomid, July/August Trolling Flies ect Or perhaps your techniques work throughout the whole open water season? Thanks for sharing your tips. Currently there are more & more open water whitefish videos but when you first started posting Whitefish video's there wasn't much out there on UA-cam.
Hi Mike, great job on these. I’ve really enjoyed them and It’s nice to see some good southern Alberta footage. Is this Travers reservoir? I’d love any info you would be willing to give on finding them through the ice here. We have a place out here and I’ve decided I’m finally going to figure out where the whitefish and burbot are. Have you ever caught perch in travers? Thanks for the great videos and info. Cheers.
some nice whitefish right there bud! Oh, if you ever have a chance coming to Toronto, try our deep water (100 to 120 ft) BIG whitefish (and lake trout) fishing on the famous Lake Simcoe just north of Toronto (which I consider my home fishing lake:-) Cheers
Thank you so much man! Know I know albertan whitefish can be caught boatside! 😊 I will go fir them with a small wire worm and a moggot or fly! Thank you! I will try in sylvan lake
Whites vary in depth depending on season and temperature. In this video we were fishing in roughly 50ft which is as deep as I go. I will systematically work the fly anywhere between mid column to bottom. Once I get a bite, I typically go back to that same depth until the bite slows, then rinse and repeat.
It’s hard to find good info on open water whites, I live on the coast and go out to northern AB early June quite often, last time u saw them crushing what looked to be calibetis and of course had no tying shit with me. You ever get em on drys?
+Ethan Wong I've caught them on yellow, red, orange, pink. I've also caught them in black and green although less so. It really depends on the time of the season and which larvae are hatching.
Can you still find these whitefish when they go deep? I've been catching them lately SHALLOW with fly rod but soon I've heard they go deep. Wondering if you have any tips!? Thanks!
xringassassin Due to the early summer this year, the whites have gone deep early. 2 weeks ago we tried Sylvan an averaged only about 4 whites each for the whole day. The spring whitefish season is pretty much finished as far as I'm concerned. Your best bet is wait until the fall when the temperature goes down, and that'll probably be when we'll be targeting whitefish again. Feel free to join us then!

Hi Mike,
How deep were you fishing and at what depth was the bobber set?

are you using the float for bite indication? seems to just be a slip float with no stop ?
Great video! What lake is this ?

Yea can't really tell how deep he was fishing or what hook he was using. Not very informative just sitting here watching people catch fish.
