@@abon1364 they might have been referring to the community of mono-black flimsy Dark Ritual deck players! All jokes aside this is a fun archetype to watch because all the cards are so satisfying to resolve, if we wanted to watch them win every game, then we’d donate for Delver and… Delver.
In round 3 I was yelling at the screen to turn 1 Hymn - The highroll of taking all of their mana is too good. Your line was certainly defensible, but I think I go for it.
At 25:50 when they said they goofed in the chat… they still had a chance to redeem themselves by activating karakas on their own venser. They had 1 creature in play and 1 card in hand. But if they bounce they can just discard the kaldra and keep the venser in hand (even if it has no etb triggers. But instead… immediately after admitting they messed up… they decided to lose both. Sometimes the pox life just melts your opponent’s brains
hey bosh, im pretty new to mtg (1 year now) and i only play commander but ive been loving your videos for the past few weeks. been binging them like crazy keep it up!!
There is much to learn from such a masterful player, even though his content isn't commander most of the card can be played in commander and a lot of the same lines of play and thought still apply. I find it very rewarding to watch his content for more than just entertainment.
The goal is to truly take them off lands... Maybe it's time to return to sinkhole. I don't know I haven't really played legacy in years but I enjoy watching your content. ( I still have legacy built from 2010, it still has sinkhole)
I have a friend who was known for a long time in the tournament scene as "Pox Guy." He played this deck (I mean, not *THIS* deck) exclusively for years. He would say cut all 4 Bloodghast. Add 1 Nether Spirit, 2 Cursed Scroll, and I'll leave the 4th open because he would say Chains of Mephistopheles.
Hohohoho!!! the best deck archetype in all of magic. I dont think there's any variation of pox this channel hasn't done in the past. Also a singleton ghost quarter might have value so that you can run your opponent out of basics with crucible.
At 55:30, you may have been trying to play around literally force blue card (Though they only had 1 force left in deck). If not, you could have kept an extra land around by casting pox to sac one land and discard innocent blood, then playing mishra's factory, then +1 Liliana
1:03:42 Obviously the answer is Invoke Despair. It's great in Standard, so the 1BBBB sorcery should be good against the blue Force piles in Legacy, right? 😄 (I'm mostly joking, but there was at least briefly a Modern deck that was trying to jam Invoke Despair off Urborg+Cabal Coffers, so maybe Dark Ritual could put it over the top in Legacy.)
R3G1, you were correct to not Ritual>Hymn so urgently when it wasn't obviously needed. Them being at 6 cards makes it an "almost" but I wouldn't be mad at myself for trying to be efficient.
37:32 No, I agree with you. Land go is what I would have done. I'm no Pox expert though. If we knew the deck, sure cast Hymn inefficiently, but not in the blind I think.
MoMo321 always plays degenerate combo that they brew. Ironically, last time you had the read and played perfectly against them, but you never actually remember 😂
I always wonder if it's better to cast smallpox right away or be patient and see if villain plays a creature first. It's much better card advantage if you get a creature with it, and it feels terrible if they play a creature later and now your removal is gone.
And PoxNRoll is back. I'd just like to point out that I admire Bryant's channel name: Because he uses sufficiently generic magic terms, he's free to really make use of the branding as he chooses. That's much harder if you directly reference Wizards IP.
Wizards I beseech thee, grant my people the pox support we desperately crave. We harbor no ill will towards our opponents, we only ask to be allowed to have them join us in the sacrifice of lands in all of your accursed formats.
It is eeriely similar to the pox deck I played way back before 2010 but I ram more manlands and a bunch of fetch. Cabal therapy was much better than hymn imo and oh bitterblossom
This league is exactly what should be pointed to for what you are signing up for by sleeving up mono black pox, in my experience. You'll win a match where your opponent makes some mistakes. You'll lose in 3 games to some pile of good cards that can actually grind through your game plan. And then the rest is "hoping your cards line up the right way"-and they frequently won't, and you will effectively not play meaningful magic while your opponent executes their gameplan. I feel that mono black pox does a better job of salting out your opponents when firing on all cylinders than loam pox does, but it's very much a 1-X record deck compared to the fairly stable loam pox builds.
Does fueling up with Engineered Plagues to name Illusion a valid line? @30:56 for Oops? I really hate that playstyle and I'd like to see that concession.
My experience with being a faithful pox player is that you do kinda lean on your opponent not really understanding how your cards work or mis-sequencing out of unfamiliarity. Still seems to happen at my weekly events quite a bit, though, despite the frequency with which I play pox decks.
The big strength of pox is that it can destroy your lands, even if they're basic lands, on turn 2 (or turn 1 with dark ritual), with the creature edict helping protect you from turn 1 plays. cascade shenanigans don't get to start until turn 3, at which point you're jumping through hoops just to add an edict effect onto your stone rain.
I think the question is - how likely will you be able to use all 3 mana from the ritual later in the game based on the texture of your hand and less about 2 for 2ing (in a vacuum). I think in round 3 based on the text urr of your hand you should have just fired it off
I’m gonna be honest, I love green black pox. And I love playing tireless tracker in it. Just something that requires and answer and ya crack a couple clues, he’s beating the breaks off people.
Brutal honesty time. This list isn't good. Why? Aggro/tempo pox builds are fundamentally different than prison builds. Wasteland is utterly terrible in this variant (or any pox build without Nether Void). Almost every deck in the format is built to run off 1-3 lands, and therefore without a full mana denial plan including sinkhole + nether void you'll rarely succeed at preventing them from casting spells. Dark Ritual is also quite bad for the same reason you don't see blue control/tempo decks running high tide, chrome mox, etc. The acceleration cards cost you card advantage and are terrible draws in the middle and late game. What should fill these slots? This variant wants The Rack and more discard spells. The Rack helps close games much faster (and hits planeswalkers). And yes, Thoughtseize should be in the main. If these suggestions sound crazy, just watch the video again with these substitutions in mind. This variant also needs to be piloted differently; you generally never want more than 3 lands in play. For example at 55:29 you should have kept the land in hand, cast Pox discarding the innocent blood, and THEN played the land. This line leaves you with 3 lands in play instead of 2. Cheers
More like jank ritual--if someone isn't using them to combo, they're playing them in a deck that's in the business of handing opponents 2-for-1s on a silver platter. The classic dark ritual-->hymn+1cc discard isn't even what it used to be, since it's so easy to recover from losing three cards that cost the other player three cards too. Disliked this video because I'm sick of seeing scrubby ritual decks being played.
Man as frustrating as delver can be at times, people who play things like oops all spells are infinitely more frustrating. I don't even think it's overpowered, it's just flipping coins to see if your opponent has turn 0 interaction/if you win the die roll.
You don't win when you take their life points. You win when you break their spirit.
You, Phil, and Bryant really have an awesome thing going on for the community and I'm so grateful for it
Are you saying that with the never ending number of extremely iffy dark ritual decks that their donors make them play in mind...?

Damn that M1G1 opponent really had to work for it but somehow they clutched a loss against all odds
It's unfortunate that neither Pox nor Pestilence, two of Magic's most fun and beloved cards, have received foil printings in paper.
I would buy that secret lair
You have a fascinating definition of fun.
I have some pretty sweet Pox alters. Not really into foils anyway.
NEW SECRET LAIR ALERT!!!
Nah it's unplayable, only true degens would be interested

be careful- you might soon find yourself a legacy hornstill fiend if you keep watching... boshnroll is a helluva drug.
didgeridooooooo!

Wow, the graveyards in m1g1 by the end were kind of a sight to behold. What a crazy game.
"Engineered Plague naming hamster".

Love the Pox but we need an updated Hornstill 😘👌
yessss!
hornstill hornstill
Pox/Ghoul was my favorite type 1.5 deck of all time. Points if anyone even knows what that is.
Was just reminiscing the other day about the old type 1 type 2 days
Little green ghouls man
Ashen ghoul I'm guessing? Fun "combo"
1.5 was legacy before it was legacy.
The key to understanding a Pox Player's mind is following the mantra "what's the worst that could happen?"
1:03:42 Obviously the answer is Invoke Despair. It's great in Standard, so the 1BBBB sorcery should be good against the blue Force piles in Legacy, right? 😄

Thoughts on Raven's Crime? Maybe just a 1x for draw go situations
Maybe it's time for The Elderspell to shine! :)
(A Boy can Dream! haha)
I once again ask you to get down with the sickness.
37:32 No, I agree with you. Land go is what I would have done. I'm no Pox expert though. If we knew the deck, sure cast Hymn inefficiently, but not in the blind I think.

29:45 the moment when even on a low ressource game there are too many on board tricks
Idk why but the software engineer ad just cracks me up. Just seems so random but earn that bread my friend!
And PoxNRoll is back.
I'd just like to point out that I admire Bryant's channel name: Because he uses sufficiently generic magic terms, he's free to really make use of the branding as he chooses. That's much harder if you directly reference Wizards IP.
3 main deck Pox? Thumbs up with out even watching the rest

I wonder if you could find a way to fit 1x Nether Spirit and/or 1x Infernal Tutor into this deck.
Is there a case for Blood chief's Thirst or some other spell that can get rid of Walkers in this deck?
Does fueling up with Engineered Plagues to name Illusion a valid line? @30:56 for Oops? I really hate that playstyle and I'd like to see that concession.
They play a Bridge from Below to play around that
we need a Pox Pox Pox deck next (with Fraying Omnipotence acting as Big Pox)
37:45 yes you played correctly, obviously if you knew what your opponent was on you would take the more aggressive line.
My experience with being a faithful pox player is that you do kinda lean on your opponent not really understanding how your cards work or mis-sequencing out of unfamiliarity. Still seems to happen at my weekly events quite a bit, though, despite the frequency with which I play pox decks.
WOOOO ACTUAL POX!!!
Could a Cascade restore balance be the improved pox deck? I mean, it does clears all lands in the right situation. And also all cards in hand too
The big strength of pox is that it can destroy your lands, even if they're basic lands, on turn 2 (or turn 1 with dark ritual), with the creature edict helping protect you from turn 1 plays. cascade shenanigans don't get to start until turn 3, at which point you're jumping through hoops just to add an edict effect onto your stone rain.
That first game holy smokes
Ive been having good luck w loampox last few weeks
As a card-carrying sicko, allow me to say "hells yesssssss"
Oh no, somehow he knows my sick little eyes like pox!

In hamster/hex meta you could maybe find a way to include invoke despair for a late game ritual payoff
I liked it before I watched it. I knew I would.
I’m gonna be honest, I love green black pox. And I love playing tireless tracker in it. Just something that requires and answer and ya crack a couple clues, he’s beating the breaks off people.
Yeeees!!!!!
The Elderspell could be good vs Planeswalkers
Yes.
Ooh I love smallbox
Would you play Noxious Grasp, or is it just very narrow?
Round 1, G1 9th minute what's the rush with the pox, you Lost hymn and a clean 2 for 1
He literally said he thought it was more important to remove lands than cards from hand wtf do you mean
We need more functional pox reprints so the edh crowd can join in
You ever seen Descent into Madness with 4 counters on it in commander? 😭 lol
18:22 "There's not that many lands in the deck." 27 lands isn't that many?
Woah it's Smallbox!
An hour? We’re either winning fast or losing fast I guess!
pox n roll is back baby
Yes always be poxin
Since we had all these types of pox when are we getting no black pox? :P
Or maybe we can have poxless pox
And extirpate for the reasons like Loam 😅
I know its an old thing to say, but I don`t think Dark Ritual is holding its own in this deck. Feels like a dead draw 80% of the time you draw it.
oops all spells you deviated from the pox deck by not playing pox!
More box is the best amount of pox
Yup, it's poxin' time
Its that time again.
It's poxin time.
Love me some smallbox
Ah yes largepox
Yesssss
Lesssgoooooo!!!
oops all spells is always a bit frustrating to watch, win or lose
Actual Factual Pox!
Yes i am dawg. And i do like pox
Yo dawg heard you liked bad match ups
Sad pox noises.
Pox! Instant like
ohhhh yeahhhh
It is me, I am dog POX TIME🤢🤧
Urza’s Saga….
Pox! Pox! Pox!
today, we got poxed😔
pox rocks
I ❤ pox
That 2nd deck is broken as fuck! I guess that's Legacy for you though.
Pooooooooox
Man that poor stoneblade player
Pox!
Unfortunately pox3 is unplayable. It should be replaced with anything else
smallbox
Early scoop

No way to make content without them. This is how the entertainment industry works. Don’t know what to tell you.
