For stuck or sticky valves, I usually bring the piston to the top of the stroke and remove the valve spring. Then lock the stem in a drill chuck and lube and spin while working up and down.

This truck brings back some memories. My 2nd truck ( 1st one I ever drove ) was a 1972 F100 Ranger that was the same color scheme of that truck. I learned a whole lot about working on FE's while I owned that truck. Mine was a 390. I was 16/17 when I owned it. It looks like your truck has a carb off a 70 or 71. And three wheels off a late 80's-early 90's F150. And if it was an engine that you actually cared about it's not a bad idea, if you have the rocker shaft off. Pull the push rods and spray some brake cleaner thru them all to make sure they aren't plugged up. And then pour some ATF over the rocker shafts and valves before you throw the cover back on. Can't wait to see the swap. But it is kind of sad. A good FE has a great exhaust sound. At least you aren't throwing a ls in it!!

I have a soft spot for these trucks. I remember riding in the middle with the underdash A/C just threatening to scalp my shins. I will never forget the looong reach to squish the pedals, the giant steering wheel, and the feeling that I was in zero control until that clutch pedal came off the floor and we were on our way. Give your kids memories like that.

thank you for your vids junkyard digs, i sadly blew an inline six because i failed to lubricate the engine after it sat 10 years and as we all know if you use starting fluid it dries out cylinder walls, ended up blowing a rod bearing. youre my hero dude and your videos are a huge inspiration.
There is just something about having the original engine and everything else that came with the truck more meaningful, too me personally. but It's your truck and it sure is pretty!
you should use the audio of that old truck starting up in your junkyard digs opening segment bumper. it is perfect to go with the theme of your channel. i really enjoy your revivals. Most of the vehicles you revive were your typical and plentiful units me and my friends owned and tinkered with in the early early 80s when i was a high school kid.

I believe that may be a 69 with a 68 grill, I think 1969 was the first year they offered woodgrain in the Ranger trim, I could be wrong but I've owned 3 68 Rangers and one 69 Ranger, only the 69 had woodgrain. Sharp truck, awesome find! Love your videos!
You have a great foundation for a restoration there. Looks like everything is great except the motor and I picked up the hint that you already have one to tuck in her. That's going to be a sweet ride
I mean yes? I guess? Not any more than any other older American V8, that's been sitting around with potentially stuck valves, and rust under the valve covers, in my experience. I don't think it's any more likely to happen on an FE, than it is on a Windsor, or 385-Series, or even a SBC/BBC, if they've been sitting for a while.
There's many reasons I like seeing older vehicles getting restored and cared for, but one major reason is because fixing them up helps bring back good times. This truck is old enough to have grandpa/grandma go cruisin' in like they used to when they were younger and the truck brand new. That's why I still drive a 1990 S10 to work, because it helps to get away from all the technology and complexity of everything these days. Simple to work on, and power to boot, these old rides just shouldn't die.
Thats a nice looking truck, and bed aside pretty solid. I like the rims that were on the drivers side and the flat rear, hope you have a full set of those. With a decent engine (or overhaul) It'll make a nice ride, especially if you can keep the AC working! Just crusin' along listening to Fiddler on the Roof!!!
Hello From KY. Kevin & Mook, I always enjoy all of your Ford Truck videos; Especially the ones with the Inline 6 cylinder engines. Recently I purchased another 1985 F-150 Ford with a carbureted 300 with a NP435 transmission from a car dealer that had just parked the truck on the lot. The engine has the typical 300 peck from the lifters but otherwise you can’t hardly hear the engine running. My 1990 F-150 with the EFI 4.9/300 cid with a E4OD transmission is needing a starter replacement. This truck has the weird conditions in which the starter will stay engaged until the battery dies or the battery post is quickly as possible disconnected. Recently I was in route home in a torrential downpour in a neighboring town in which for no apparent reason the starter engaged as I was driving. I turned the key switch back and forth several times in which I think that the starter finally burned itself up. The amp gauge was just about completely over to the left on discharge until the starter finally gave up the ghost. As I made my way back home through the monsoon, The gauge gradually returned pretty much to normal and I was fortunate enough to get the truck back home with no further incident. I kind of took your advice and purchased one of the Pure Energy starters rather than pay full price for a parts store starter that may or may not fry itself like the OEM Motorcraft starter that was on the engine. Have you encountered this issue with any of your Fords and what did you do to resolve the issue. And yes, I ordered a OEM Motorcraft starter solenoid rather than the parts store solenoids that have been not very good. A friend of mine suggested that the starter switch located under the steering column may be going bad, So I ordered a OEM Motorcraft switch as well. In past years, I had a 1974 F-100 with the FE 360 engine in which the engine always ran decently but I never could find a 2 barrel carburetor that was exactly right for the engine. I finally sold the truck to someone that I knew who finally killed the truck. Thanks for all of your great videos.
Very cool old truck. My first truck when I was 16 was a 1969 F100 Ranger. It had a 390. A tired 390. I loved that truck. I rebuilt the engine and transmission. It was a great old truck. I still miss it.

I've come to the conclusion that you can never have enough tools.

I have a 67 F600. The engine is a 330 FT but it is very similar in most aspects to an FE engine. These engines were machined and assembled without exhaust manifold gaskets. Over time the exhaust manifolds start to leak and get loud. The mounting bolts usually break off whenever you try to remove them in order to fix exhaust leaks. Some exhaust manifolds crack and break. They are hard to find and replace. The broke off bolts are usually why they get parked and never driven again.
Kids..... Push your finger into the radio dial, some of 'em flipped up and that's where you'd put the 8 track. A Ranger in that shape?! Excellent find!
I have an old 1970 f100, love the trucks- its been hell trying to restore it. It belonged to my dad. he had it ever since he was 17. These are cool trucks n shit. I just feel like im in a pickle working on mine. so much stuff I have to do. when you guy just slap it with laughing gas and vroom vroom. you guys are magicians.
Love watching your content! I myself brought back a 1970 Ford f100 that sat for 15+ years! Amazing how much your videos has helped me get it running. Thanks!
Used to have one. Great truck. Was my first vehicle. My Ranger was damn near a stripper. 390, no PS or PB, 2wd and a 3 speed C6. It did however, have AC. I believe the Ranger was more of a Chrome/trim package and could be loaded up if wanted. The FE series engines all had a problem with timing chain and gear sets getting sloppy. ENDLESS leaking exhaust manifolds. Points Distributor bushing likes to go bad between 50-60K miles then the timing starts flopping around, but will happen about the same time as the timing chain set, so check both.

Understandable considering the cost of the prizes. I wouldn’t think that those prizes are given up completely free. Someone needs to pay for at least part of it. Also need to consider how many youtube sites they are sponsoring. I have seen at least 3 in the last 48 hours.
@@brianjohnston9822 Don’t kid yourself go to their website they have huge sponsorship deals and a lot of the cars come from companies that just want their products put out there so they don’t pay for all the cars either the only time they really give A major portion of the funds to charity is when they have contests where you can win a dinner with an actor or some other celebrity than 60% of that goes to charity but they make a killing on the car raffles and some auditing websites claim it’s actually only 10% of the car raffles go to charity and they claim to have donated 130 million so that means they have brought in billions of dollars I am sure you can afford quite a few hundred thousand dollar cars to raffle off with that kind of money that’s why they advertise with so many UA-camrs the amount of tickets they sell for each car is unbelievable the money they make off each car will make your head spin so the odds of winning are horrible
Kevin, that one is really solid. Wow. Though a valve job for what is probably a 360 would get it back on the road, a modified 390 or 460 would be terrific.
I remember checking spark on a Dodge Neon one time. I grounded the plug out on the valve cover. Needless to say, I very quickly learned that it had spark, and that the Neon valve covers are not made out of metal. I learned that lesson, and I will never have to be told again, lol.

Yeah, I wanna see a F U L L restore on this now
Buy it
I love these old bumpside fords! Swap a good running FE with a 4bbl in it and drive it! Good find!
Drinking game every time Kevin whacks his head take a shot
You'd be as dizzy as him
I’m drunk and Kevin has a concussion

I bought a '67 F100 with a 352 3 speed back when I was 17 for $450. Damn thing had no brakes but ran like a scalded dog. Loved that truck.
That radio is an 8 track. It goes in where the dial is. The dial folds in.
I'm glad someone said it
Just started to watch a new Bruce Willis movie and at the 8th minute a junkie sniffing drugs in the same car. And I watched this episode today.
I know it is not exactly the same, but still made my day.
Wee the old girl is running @20:25 she sounds pretty good other then the lifter noise @Junkyard Digs
My autistic non verbal 6 year old, was giggling and watching you ver intently, as you kept zapping yourself. I don’t always know what he sees or understands. But he sure does like you guys. Nice to bond over something so simple. Thanks 😊
Not first, but I love old Ford trucks.
That truck is perfect. New engine ,suspension upgrade, nice rims and tires. Absolutely perfect. Come on you need to to put a brand new center section in the bed, it's worthy!
Kevin.... I could barely hold my shit together watching that rim spin inside the tire during the attempted burn out.. You won the internet tonight.. hah!
At least something was in it for the burnout!
My Old 1968 Nova had lifter tapping that drove me nuts ..My Uncle was a Mechanic for Gm Dealership. He pulled the valve cover and adjusted them up and it quieted them down a bit .but they were still a tapping ....He said just drive it .it will be fine ....Drove that little 250 straight 6 for 5 years .Drove it from St Petersburg Fl to Geauga county Ohio and back twice ...Never a problem .M.A.G.A
Hey Mook... my wife and I have spent some time volunteering at a shelter (Animal Rescue Foundation... ARF... in Mobile, AL), and we currently have 5 adopted dogs! You gotta love volunteers!
It’s crazy how this truck SOUNDS familiar. I have a 71 F100. The door hinge squeak, and close sounds the same. So does the FE crank over sound.
34:14 Worse burnout in history 🤦🏻♂️🤣. Great job getting it running though!
I loved the rim spinning inside the tire.
I see, I click, best birthday surprise is a JYD video
Happy b day 😄
Happy birthday 🎂
Happy birthday tomoto!

Man that DEERE is one fine piece of equipment.
You got to do sumthing with the old F250 love to see it back.
my first truck was a 68 ford custom 100 3 on the tree and a 390 loved that old truck

These old Fords are great! I had a 67 with the 300 6 cylinder. Could not kill that truck. 300K+ miles.
"Everybody Wants A Mook Hug" When she's right she's RIGHT!
it be true
I read that as mug hook
Kids..... Push your finger into the radio dial, some of 'em flipped up and that's where you'd put the 8 track. A Ranger in that shape?! Excellent find!
"Down here in Texas Bob Wills is still the king"
WAY lon Jennings!
It don't matter who's in Austin......
Kevin & MOOKS Videos team work are the best ! Please do more !!!!
Cats funny to see ! Have a few myself !
So glad when I bought my new TV I didn't opt for smell-a-vision.
Whenever ever you got the time brah, revive some muscle cars!
Mmm like an 86 Oldsmobile Hurst find one with those sickening lightning rods
He lives in an area where its hard to find muscle cars
Love watching your content! I myself brought back a 1970 Ford f100 that sat for 15+ years! Amazing how much your videos has helped me get it running. Thanks!
"Rear end seems good". (Tires set on ground and not moving and driveshaft spinning away.) Better check
It's amazing how those old V8's can put up with all that abuse. I can't believe that an Ecoboost will be able to do anything in 50 years!
Well that's the price of efficiency. What can we do?
Love the Patina On both the white and the blue looks good that grill came out super clean great episode Kevin see ya on the next one @Junkyard Digs
You should just rebuild the engine and transmission
360 is still a great engine, tough as nails.
That 68 cleaned up nice, and has some scars. Those ol Fords must have some stories.
This is the earliest I've ever gotten here. Hi everyone watching with me! Lol
Found the channel about a week back...having fun binge watching while on my vacation
Hi 👋🏻
Can't believe you put that push rod back in that! What a shame
Kevin if you think the hood latch is a pain, you should try working on old Mercedes. The radiator grill is attached to the hood so everytime you go to stand up straight to admire your work in the engine bay its "bang, F&^%$!" Grill.!!!!#$%$%^. Another awesome vid Kevin and its always nice to see Mook too.
You should do another revival like the satellite so a mopar muscle car revival
I was expecting this to be one of those, stuck lifters and all, these motors are just ridiculous I own 4 of them.
"This truck hates me". Wow... I'm glad it's not just me working on vehicles that seem to enjoy hurting me... Love it.. 😊
I am sad to say but when you buy an omaze ticket only 15% goes to charity
Still better than most charities luckily.
@@600wheel 1. Punctuation is your friend. That was painful to read. 2. Are you this miserable irl? Get a hobby.
@@stratmatt73 Actually no I was in a bad accident so I have to dictate my messages for the moment
The patina on that truck reminds me of all the old car parts and signs in cool restaurants. That is really good patina
I'd almost be willing to bet the radio has an 8-track player behind the tuner display.
Kevin, that one is really solid. Wow. Though a valve job for what is probably a 360 would get it back on the road, a modified 390 or 460 would be terrific.
"Bob WILLIS"?? AARGH. Bob Wills. And the Texas Playboys. Best band ever.
Bob Wills is still the king!
I remember checking spark on a Dodge Neon one time. I grounded the plug out on the valve cover. Needless to say, I very quickly learned that it had spark, and that the Neon valve covers are not made out of metal. I learned that lesson, and I will never have to be told again, lol.
The interior just needs some D-Germ.
I had a ''70 F-100 that had a 360 with a C-6 and it ran strong for the 15 years I had it. It looked quite similar to this one.
I wanna buy it lol, can't find decent priced F100s in my aera everyone wants a rusted out body for 5-7k man come on!
Here in Australia they want like $10-15,000 for rusty junk that doesn't run. Id love that one!
"No lowballers, I know what I got here. Blue book says $9k." Uh yeah, blue book is for running vehicle, not a pile of rust shaped sorta like a truck.
I feel your pain I see rolling chassis, no drive train going for like 4-5 and body’s half rust too
