That could have been done better indeed. Like Renault with the Zoe and Tesla and Volvo. But it's not that bad.. i think.. Is it? The car itself looks great and familiar.

Electricity Tax incoming.
Yeah right. You think any government in their right mind would try and tax a utility every single person uses in the UK?! A new vehicle/road tax format maybe. If you look into energy you will learn that with renewables often countries pay other countries to take their surplus energy. It's an area that is rapidly completely changing beyond what we recognise.... Not one that is soon to be taxed.

That's why the Government want everyone to have a Smart meter so they can ring fence the vehicle charge with a tax.

I really like it overall (exterior and interior). Only thing I'd change in this particular unit is the white steering wheel. That wouldn't remain white for long...
There is a dark version as well. The blueish car that some journalists got to review had a dark interior, compared to this bright one.
Most. Are from the 1950s including VW had white steering wheels and knobs.
I would stitch some leather onto that steering wheel:)

R Tap major fail, and poor interpretation of Tesla. VW had such excellent switches and knobs. You could use comfortably them without taking the eyes off the road.

the only detail I'm not sure is a good idea is the hexagonal indents in the front bumper, I imagine that those will be a magnet for grime and hard to polish etc
Haptic feedback tactile switches, god no. Real switches are so much convenient while driving.
I agree, but for some reason most of EV are going into touch switches.
@@RobertoSartori I think it's partly because those most likely to buy them right now are computer geek/technology types who think a touchscreen makes everything better. It doesn't. I SHOULD be able to reach over in the dark without looking and turn down my fan speed, and turn up my stereo volume with tactile knobs. I SHOULDN'T have to go through menus AND keep looking at the screen(s) to do simple tasks.

Haptic feedback would've been fine if it wasn't for the fact that that buttons are an arm lengths away. Drive over a bump while reaching to turn your air-con off and the now the hazards are on. I would prefer touch buttons on the steering wheel, but not somewhere where you have to reach for them.
Come on VW North America: don't f*** with us and bring this car here. We're not ALL in love with SUVs...
Strangely, I'd much much rather have the SUV. Maybe Sweden can swap with the USA.

Great concept, can't wait for the real thing..... and I would think the interior will be in line with the MIB system.... currently being used in VW.
Can't wait to see all of the optionals VW have available for their cars. There must even be an optional for how many physical buttons you want to have in the front panel.
This car looks very good. I hope that it comes to Canada at an affordable price with the necessary infrastructure to support it.

@@someguy2135 Because many Americans like SUV rather than smaller cars. VW says they'll be bringing the upcoming electric SUV here, it's unfortunate that they won't bring the ID 3 here. It would be the ideal replacement for my e-Golf.

I've been waiting for an electric replacement for my 2014 VW Golf. I wasn't sold on the E-Golf and I am absolutely sold on this, but like you said. Not available in the US at launch. At this point i'm looking at the Nissan Leaf which fits the same market and is by all standards a solid commuter electric car.
Keep it. Rather get a Tesla built in America and looks better than this liberal trash can.

I am a Tesla driver and my first impressions were that it was a decent review in a decent car. Overall, the more electric cars we have on the road the better no matter who’s making them.
1:46 Mentions the 19" wheels, which are standard for the given trim level with a normal sized battery, and 20" for the long range. Meaning that if anyone needs the 77kwh battery, they're stuck with 20"s, who's tires can cost 25% or more than those of 18"s (watch Engineering Explained's video on this)

CockatooDude no one wants to. VW’s technology is far better than what they have. Tesla’s screens aren’t usable while driving. Even the new Audi’s with the dual screens aren’t popular with most drivers, I think it’s trash.

Weirdly, I find myself liking this car every time I see a video about it. I wouldn't mind pottering around in it sometime in the future. Only trouble is there is zero infrastructure to accommodate it here in my country.

Those quoted range figures will be as far out as manufacturer rated mpg figures are. Curious what the actual figures would be.
4 m/Wh is reasonable so that makes a 75 kWh battery about 300 miles. You can certainly achieve more but it involves driving VERY efficiently.
I guess 310-360km in city driving and 250-300km in highway situations for the base version. Regen braking can improve urban range quite substantially. Was able to get about 18% of energy back in a Renault Zoe in mostly urban + country roads + a bit of highway situations.
I love how this iconic mass produced id3 is still not out a year after announcement
I guess the reason they could argue as to why they announce so early is cars are so expensive people may hold off from a competitors model, to test drive or buy one of theirs. Would be great though if cars were announced like phones, where they shipped two weeks after they were demoed.

The most exciting thing about EV's is that you can stop for 30 mins and enjoy listing to the grass growing. Or 60 minutes if there is a queue by the charger.. or longer if some of the chargers are out of order. No thanks!
If you have a driveway you can just charge the car when your are home or at work (given that your workplace has chargers). This is only a problem when you drive more than 300 km often in one go. In this case you should take breaks anyway. If you live in the city with no driveway, then yeah, right now is not a good time to buy an electric car.
@@DoctorHeisenberg It will still be a problem.If you live in a apartment on 10th flor,how are you gonna charge your car?And if the area is urban you wont have space to place a charger for everyone.That leads to further problems,charging in the city during rush hours.The idea is nice,but the problems that needs to be solved so that ev can be used in huge quantity like ICE are massive.Not to mention the problems with power grid.If EV do archive high number of vehicles,the price of electric power will skyrocket to compensate for money that is lost for not using regular fuel.
@@MrMarkopetrov That is true and the reason why I wouldn't buy en ev right now. I have space on the street to park but there is no way for me to charge an ev in a convenient way here. I hope this will change rather quickly. Idk about the electricity price. The grid certainly needs to be adapted for this but I think at least in my country the government wouldn't just allow the electricity companies to increase the price for electricity that much. This would cause people to go on the streets.

I totally dig the minimalist design. Not sure about this particular light gray interior, a little retro IMO. Reminds me of early (beige) Macintosh computers from the 90’s.
The big touch screen inside of the Model 3 was a nice concept, but I really prefer to have some dials and switches on my dash board. Controlling everything over one screen often makes it more compicated than it should be.

The changed door/cockpit assembly including the screens also costs money. Taking into account that a mirror assembly can be produced for small costs in high scales implies that Volkswagen made the right and more cost effective choice. Everything else wouldn't make any sense.

Go look at the Autogefuhl video about it: the reviewer is 186 cm tall and he had a lot of legroom (he said it has the interior space of a Passat)

I actually really like the interior. For the right price, VW could have a hit here. Hopefully it will include at least a good version of lane keeping for long distance highway driving.
