People are ridiculous. It’s one reason I collect 1:6 scale. They’re too expensive for children and I can buy them online. If you have to take toys out of a child’s hands or are racing a kid to the toy shelves? You’re just wrong.

When I discovered SideShow Toys, Prime 1, etc., my G1 Transformers hunt went from toys to full blown full-grown adult salary spending statues. 😂
Grew up poor and saw other kids playing with their transformers and I'm making it up today collecting what I want displayed in my office.
I been toy collecting since I was a kid, displaying figures and vehicles. The only way I was able to afford these toys was because I had to work with my parents 😂 I was a kid the stuff I was collecting was hot wheels and Gi joe. After I got to 6th grade I started to careless about toys and more about women and going out, to the point I told myself " I'm too grown to be buying toys " 😂 and just gave my whole collection to my nephew. 2020 Covid hits and I started collecting again and now my collection is just random with 1/6 figure, comics, statues, skate decks, designer toys, cards, art, collectibles in general so I'm definitely back and now I own some really cool pieces that I thought I would never own because how expensive they are. As of right now it's a buyers market and the deals are everywhere.
I’m about to turn 58. I don’t feel like I’m too old to be collecting, but I do feel like I’m too old to be toy hunting. I buy everything online that I possibly can. The only time I check toy aisles at retail is when I’m picking up something else at the store. I stoped asking employees to look up DCPI numbers and pull stock from the back a long time ago. I no longer pay any attention to boxes sitting on carts either. If it’s not sitting on the pegs, I don’t wanna know. I imagine I will have to stop collecting when I retire due to financial aid space considerations, but until then, I’m enjoying myself.
I feel the same way. 90% of what I buy you can't find in the store anyway. That other 10% is not even worth the headache of toy hunting lol

My first two McFarlane figures from the Multiverse were from Target. Arkham Knight and the DC Joker. Very few after that were store bought.
I’m 31 & l collect 1/6 Military figures. I hate I can’t find figures in regular stores, the joy of walking out of a store with something you really wanted is unmatched.

The last year has been extra difficult for me as my son has decided he's evolved into enjoying games, guitars and music. I'm happy for him! It's not easy walking through local toy departments though and remembering looking for his holy grail characters. I get all nostalgic. Personally, I think toys are cool and bring me peace. I don't have the patience or the energy to go hunting for them anymore, though.
I explain to everybody how we used to go out ALL DAMN DAY on the bike to other towns and all. Parents give you enough for a soda and a slice of pizza and you are good from morning till street lights come on! Great video homie!

My "collection" as a kid was pretty much whatever I could get from my grandparents or my mom or my aunts/uncles.
I had WWF bone crunchers, WCW Toybiz, Dragon Ball Z, some old Kenner Batman and Terminator, a few Marvel Toybiz, and a bunch of McDonald's and Burger King figures from back when they actually had good action figures in the kid's meals. Lol

I'm 56. I collect action figures. I'm a Marine Corps Veteran as well as a huge Black Panther Fan. I bring young kids - mostly Black. They don't tend to see themselves as members of the Armed Forces or Superheroes. My Office filled with Action Figures (mostly Black) combats the image/representation problem we have in media. Love the wwf references!!! Honestly its tough competing out there for these figures. Harder to see something retro from your past on ebay and not pick it up for triple the price. But i like what these companies are doing with the new retro style figures like the animated spiderman and iron man figures based off thr old cartoon figures but updated with better articulation and scaling

To be fair to manager can't do that he can get into a lot of trouble with the company if the toy company finds out because thier street dated for a reason so the thing is by selling it beforehand they can get fined or told that they can no longer carry any of their product. Now sometimes a more experienced employee will override it and sell it and that's how people get it cuz they don't want to bother getting the manager involved because that alone is extra work cuz they don't want to. dealing with the manager is bad enough they don't even want to be there especially early in the morning.

I'm seriously buying less on impulse,partly because of space and rising costs.
I've turned 48 this year and I'm also finding things I've bought , either don't get unboxed, or I regret buying even after a week on the Shelf.
Star Wars , Marvel, Gi Joe figures lots of these things I'm losing my love of , probably because they don't look exactly how I want them to.
Now if Legends made a classic Hobgoblin, Spider-Man,Black Cat and Mary Jane just like early Romita Jr art I'd be tempted.
What I am collecting, although I don't have them in hand yet is the JoyToy 3.75" TMNT figures,they look so cool and take up little space,which I really don't have lol.

I'm earn 100% of my income, fully support myself, and all of my bills are paid, so I will buy whatever I want. As for why I collect, I'm 46 which means I grew up in the 80s and early 90s. That was a golden age for pop culture, especially cartoons. G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Voltron, Dungeons & Dragons were huge parts of my life growing up, not to mention comic books. Action Force and MAFEX are my go-to lines at the moment.

I'm 51 and buy 99.9% of my figures and Lego sets online... I couldn't have afforded to do this in my 20's-30's not to mention all the cool shit with articulation and accessories and likenesses that they have now. Ain't no kids buying $35.99CAD action figures and $300.00+ Lego sets... this is an "adult collectables" world we're living in. Kids are playing on their phones and tablets.

As a man who’s 2 days away from being 26 I collect statues sneakers and action figures and ima give my whole opinion on this topic first things first as long as your bills are paid and you have money in the bank it’s okay to have some hobbies that cost money number two as long as they are positive hobbies there’s nothing wrong and number 3 the reason why most men get into figure collecting is because of our childhood memories and we’re fans of a certain video game franchise comic book company or movie so aye as long as you got everything lined up go for it
I’m 47 I collect jnd and prime one statues, marvel legend, hot toys and I get custome James Bond violins 1/6 figures made. I do it because of nostalgia, brings me back to my childhood where I had a great childhood even though we were not rich, I was happy. Always want to reminisce of those times

Saw this video pop up and checked it out. Yes, we are to old, we should be out and about teaching the youth, fixing the environment, making positive change to make sure the next generation are set. Instead we are rummaging through Targets, Walmarts, Ollie’s, Ross, Flea Markets looking for toys, arguing with people that don’t agree with our likes and opinions, harassing store employees to look in the back, and being petty. Then, when we find that super sought after toy, we complain that something’s wrong with it and post on social media that the world is gonna end because my toys eyes are cockeyed…this is our reality. We are toy collectors, yeah there’s some good that comes with what we do, but the focus really is on the bad side of it…as long as your okay with this, it’s all good. I mean we could be doing other unhealthy habits like alcohol, drugs, gambling, and violence. So being petty or selfish about toys don’t seem so bad…

I collect because it's brings me back to my childhood and the memories looking on the shelves for the figures. In the early 80's I was collecting mostly motu and transformers. I remember l didn't get a lot because l other brothers too so my parents got me what I could. There was still a lot figures l didn't get back then now with a job l can buy figures l didn't get as a kid. I am back collecting g1 transformers. Gi joe classified, and Motu origins and masterverse. I work so l am going to buy that simple. We are never to old, because collecting figures were a big part of childhood. Nobody can't take that away the memories of collecting and playing with friends. Then got into McFarlane Spawn & Horror figures. Then Funko Pop. Ended up selling those collections entirely to fund the start of my Classified Collection four years ago.

When the GI-Joe Classified line was just getting started. There was an exclusive wave being released at Target.
Grown ass men throwing toddler temper tantrums in the store and on Facebook. That behavior made action figure collectors worldwide look bad!
What's even crazier... These guys had absolutely no shame in their behavior, and would then brag about how they fought and argued with the teenage Target employees.
These same individuals still get upset when they see other collectors having multiples of something.

27 years old now and been collecting 1:18 scale/4 inch Marvel figures since “09 when I was 13yo, the reason I know how long ago is because I still have my Wolverine figure from the X-men Origins: Wolverine movie and I know that movie released in 2009. I didn’t start collecting Gi Joe until I hit 19 and just recently I’ve gotten into collecting DC & Star Wars in 2022. I no longer collect new gi joe figures because they only make them in 6 inches now and not the 1:18 scale, so now I have an ever growing collection of 1:18 scale Marvel, DC & Star Wars figures👍👍

Something similar happened to me, to what happened to you with that McFarlane Robin Hood figure. I was at Walmart and found a Charizard amiibo in the game section shelf, thought it was ready to be purchased. Little did I know, it wasn't on the system yet, it wasn't suppose to be in shelves, and I couldn't purchase it until release date.
ILuckily I don't collect amiibo anymore, but have a huge adult Dragon Ball statue figure collection and a decent Kotobukiya Marvel Now collection. Fun hobby but hella expensive lol. Im 31 now, started collecting when I was 23, stopped a bit in between and started going strong again a bit before and during the Pandemic lol.

New subscribers and late to the conversation, but not the topic. I'm 50 years old and have been collecting since the 90s. If you want to be technical, I've been collecting all my life, because what I started collecting as an adult, is what I collected as a child. Technically most of the modern figures are stated for "adult collectors". If adults didn't buy these, the companies would go out of business.

Sadly, the managers aren't in a position to override that street date. They can mark it as a different item, but that leads to shrink numbers. Per their agreement with the companies, if there is an audit and they sold before the street date, they get fined serious money per infraction. So that managers job would be toast.
Really, one main issue is how TOXIC the collecting community has become. They are abusive to workers and just overall nasty.
A secondary issue is that it's become a side hustle for people. So the toy hunt isn't just about trying to beat other collectors to the store. It's also a dash to beat the resellers who stand there and scan items to see how they are selling.
Honestly, it's crazy anymore, and that is why I've cut my collecting habits back tremendously.
It's supposed to be a fun hobby, not another stress producer. Life is stressful enough, and collecting action figures aren't worth adding even a miniscule amount of stress.

No. I'm 66 years old, I am a 30+ years Collector, I also previously owned my own Comic Book Store for 24 years. I have built a small Multiverse, 10 different Earth's; 6 DC, 3 Marvel, and a Fantasy Earth; I have approximately 5,600 Total Figures. Sounds like a lot but I know at least 4 You Tubers with 10,000, and 1 with 20,000. Despite having twice as many DC Earth's I have far more Marvel Figures as my Marvel Earth's are far more Complete. Only my Earth 1, Main DC is fairly Complete. Another problem with DC is that they never gave us enough Villains. Only on my Earth 3; Crime Syndicate, do the Villains outnumber the Heroes. Kids dont even play with toys anymore. I dont know how many toys i bought for my kids that ends up with them saying "put it up in your closet and collect it , i dont want it anymore" we only throw the broke stuff away. Who knows maybe they will take it when i die and open a toy store or something if my nephew or somebody elses kid dont get it first. Half of them dont even play video games anymore unless its something like roblox or something on a phone app.

47 and collect figs after a bad divorce had to start all over but got mi kids to live with me and started all over again now they also collect we go toy hunting is a beautiful thing but it gets expensive and I got to be picky with what I buy now don’t get no help from baby mama so is all on me but I ain’t stopping any time soon good video new sub here ✌️ 💯🙏

I came back to the hobby after a divorce, old man Logan Marvel legends got me back in. Iam 42 and I collect Mega Construx(opens your mind with bricks), Marvel legends, DC and Fornite action figures. I can't play video games because the progress is not real, your can't hold it in your hands, remember or be thankful you have the item, the items has purpose, men like visual pleasure, art is in the eye of the buyer🎉 my full walls also are relaxing and expand my mind, help me to sleep

45. Too much. Only all in on G.I. Joe Classified, but Im over 50 percent in on many other lines. The worst/best part is I have to buy double of alot because my nine year old son loves collecting now.
Don't worry, by those teenage years he won't care. My children stopped. My daughter who is grown now is started back. My son could care less lol he just admires what I have and that keep it moving.
