I love both cities. I was born and raised in Adelaide. Worked in the US for two decades and returned to Australia, where I've been living in Perth for the past 23 years. I will say that Perth's winters are much warmer than Adelaide and there are very few overcast days in Perth, even during the winters. However, Adelaide has some beautiful, charming older suburbs and a lot of culture, especially European which I love.
Great review thanks. Having lived in Perth for 16 years I found it to be a fantastic place to live. The one thing that would put me off moving back there would be the long extremely hot summers, its just not pleasant walking round any of the inland suburbs in 40 plus degrees, the streets were pretty much empty and the hum of air con units can be heard behind the closed blinds (seemed like everyone was hiding),However the rest of the Year particularly spring was a delight.
To those who find Adelaide boring, they are just boring individuals. Adelaide has as much to do if you go looking for it as any city in the world. Having lived in the USA & Europe in BIG bustling cities, I am so grateful for little old Adelaide. Stay young hang around young people.
Agree with this. Adelaide has a better nightlife than Sydney even at this point. What adelaide and perth have is sunsets over the sea horizon. Perth beaches are great. Adelaide metro beaches are decent for a dip. But everyone in adelaide has a holiday shack across the peninsula to getaway. Adelaides hills are underrated
Adelaide sits in a basin so it is completely surrounded by hills, not a lot of sea breeze whereas Perth spreads along the coast and gets the Fremantle doctor comes in, Adelaide is an older city too
I am pretty sick of the constant grey skies in Adelaide. This does make me think about my older years. Maybe I should try Perth. I dislike the tropics so no Queensland… lol
In my experience, at Adelaide beaches the water is calm flat and shallow ie good for a paddle. Perth ocean beaches are much more prone to winds and waves, hence great for board, body & wind surfing, but waters are deeper & can be treacherous on occasion. River beaches good for paddling. Sharks sometimes get hungry in Perth coastal waters - dont know about Adelaide. Suburban railway significantly more developed in Perth. Perth probably more decentralised than Adelaide. Perth is certainly windy.
Loved this video, it mirrors my thoughts on the two cities. It's interesting to see comments here where people say their city is better blah blah blah. I think it is fantastic that this beautiful country has cities so different but for someone looking to travel or move to Australia it may be good to chose either Adelaide or Perth unless your sole purpose is to go clubbing and nightlife, then chose Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. Geographically Adelaide is probably best if you want to keep your costs down and use it as your base place to live and then get a cheap flight from city to city. Anyway, if you are Australian, be proud of your whole country, it's the best in the World :) Also need to add in that Adelaide is the only city in Australia where the CBD is in the middle of the Greater Adelaide city which makes getting to and from the city quite easy and fast. It's is not a city where you will be stuck in the car for four hours per day (unless you are a cab/Uber driver :)
Both are great cities. A lot of Perth people never go to the east coast of Australia. I've only ever been to Adelaide and Melbouren and that was due to relatives. In Perth you just go overseas.
Im from Perth, lived here all my life. Ive visited Adelaide on numerous occasions and what strikes me everytime is the difference in the finer details. Perths roads and highways are so much better planned and constructed. The intent on streetscaping in Perth is way more evident than the effort in Adelaide. In Perth the footpaths and median strips on roads are either neatly paved or cemented whereas in Adelaide you see more bituminised paths and strips. Perth shows off its wealth of native plant species in its landscaping and parks. Perth is a very beautiful city in its natural setting, Adelaide isnt flattering and has power poles called “Stobies” and Perth uses timber or underground cables. Perths rail system and public transport system in general is world class. Perth has the Swan River and lakes scattered throughout the metropolitan area so with the beaches you see heaps more water. Perth has Fremantle which and Adelaide has Port Adelaide which doesnt compare to Fremantle. But if youre not into aesthetics or natural beauty, pick Adelaide.
Another West Aussie here, and I agree with you 100%....One thing you didn't say was how bad Adelaides water is to drink. I couldn't handle it lol. Also, the water at our beaches stays warmer a lot longer than Adelaide's so we can still swim here up to around mid April.. Plus Perth is the gate way to the Kimberley's, the most beautiful scenery in the world, with Karajini National Park - The Bungle bungles - Geikie Gorge - The Ord River system - The Horizontal Falls - The Ningaloo Reef off Coral Bay Exmouth - The Recherche Archipelago 104 islands off Esperance with the best fishing both South and North that anyone could ask for - The Peel Estuary in Mandurah for crabbing / prawning / fishing / boating / dolphins / kite surfing / sailboarding / canoeing and I could keep on going. Western Australia has it all, with more than you can possibly imagine
@@roslynjonsson2383 water temp is something people don't think about when it comes to beaches. The water temp is Adelaide is uncomfortably cold for most of the year and even in summer is a few degrees colder than in Perth.
@@haydencooper_ I am from California, so I am really into ocean water temperatures. I find our ocean water to cold most of the year. That is why I prefer Southern Florida beaches, where the water is warm all year long. I am looking up several water temps from Sunshine and Gold Coasts, NSW Beaches, and Western Australia Beaches and none of them seem to stay warm the entire year. Is there anywhere in Australia were the water never goes below 70F or 21C, like say Miami Beach?
@@timhinchcliffe5372 While it rains in winter in Perth, its usually still about 18-20 degrees. Its not like Melb or Adelaide. You can still wear tshirt shorts most days. But from Oct to May it basically doesn't rain at all. Fact.

I've lived in both Adelaide and Perth for around 10 years each, now in Adelaide. Perth has a beach vibe and is a more modern city with regards to its architecture. It's also obviously a much wealthier city due to Western Australia's massive mining industry. Adelaide is the perfect mix of old and new, in my opinion the food/wine culture is much more part of its social fabric than in Perth. Adelaide's arts scene is arguably the best in the country given it's population is only one quarter that of Syney and Melbs.
Hi there, can you tell me how the security in both cities nowaday? I've read somewhere that Perth is not as secured as it was before. Heard nothing bad about Adelaide though.
@@firechikara lets put it this way. Crime in Australia is very apparent country wide. But according to the Bureau of Statistics WA has less crime per capita then all states and territories bar Melbourne and the ACT. Whereas Adelaide has the second highest crime rate per capita only being surpassed by the Northern Territory. The main crimes in both states were drug offenses and assault offenses.
You have missed some significant differences. Adelaide is abundant with history and culture and has a notable European appeal whereas Perth is modern and has a striking river the size of a harbour. Both are exquisite cities and I believe Oz’s two best. I live in Adelaide which for me is the best city in the world, but we do have a colder and greyer winter which suits the old world vibe of the city. A drive in the Adel Hills is like a day out in Great Britain or Europe, as too are our magnificent wine regions, 16 distinct regions making Adelaide one of the great wine capitals of the world. That said, if I didn’t live here I would move to Perth but for many different reasons, some of which you captured.
We are lucky in Adelaide because we live a European lifestyle which of course has the added hybrid of the unique Australian culture and flora and fauna. The red river gums are at their most majestic in SA because of the drier climate.
I've just come across this video and I think it's great. I am Perth born and bred but have travelled a lot of Australia. Perth is beautiful and Adelaide and Brisbane are not far behind. Melbourne is great and very cultural, Tassie is beautiful but too cold for me and Sydney is too busy and noisy. Regardless of my opinions, everyone that lives in OZ should be more patriotic and proud to live in this amazing country we call home regardless of which city you live in!!
A friend of ours was born in Perth, and he'll never go back there, he now resides in Adelaide, he has stated that he will never go back to Perth, he likes Adelaide's live music and sports culture, he has also said if he was to move to a city in another state he'd move to Melbourne, he finds Perth boring.
Whilst I understand the title of the video, I think the two are distinctively different, making for a difficult comparison. Adelaide is without a doubt better for a more ‘urban’ experience with Adelaide CBD being fantastic and yes, it’s certainly closer to the east coast, however i think Perth is sort of flying under the radar at present as becoming the most prosperous parts of the country due to the lower cost of property and higher median incomes and job prospects, combined with beautiful and untouched coastlines. Perth wins it for me, but I see why some prefer Adelaide.
I emigrated to Australia in 2008, and my choice of destination was between Adelaide and Perth. I loved both cities, and the fact that they were both cheaper and less frenetic/overcrowded than Sydney & Melbourne (before anyone mentions Brisbane or Darwin, I'd already been to both places and discounted them; too hot/too much crime/too little infrastructure/too little culture). In the end I plumped for Perth, mostly because I work in construction and Perth was undergoing a boom in that area at the time I moved. But the two cities are remarkably similar in climate, culture, populations, and lifestyle. And for some reason people in Melbourne and Sydney still sneer at them, as they pay $$$$$$$$ for a dogbox located 2 hours outside the city. The only criticism I have of Perth is the drivers; oh my fucking word. I have driven in Cuba, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, Cambodia, and Hong Kong, and Perth has the shittest drivers I have EVER seen.
I have to agree on the atrocious driving. Defensive driving is essential in WA to avoid being backed into, side swiped, head on'ed or rear ended - such are the skills of the other drivers who have a flair for misjudgement, driving in the middle of the road and simply not looking or thinking before they act.

@@aymanla471 I googled median wages by state in Australia and WA has consistently higher wages than VIC and NSW. I only found data from 2021 per city and Sydney first followed by Perth and then Melbourne, Brisbane etc. i think lots of people don’t realise how wealthy the people in WA are, the mining money is no joke. Add to that way lower housing prices and people really have a lot of disposable income. So the lack of toll roads and the abundance of free parking are a nice bonus too!

Beaches in Adelaide stretch along the whole coast for kms . Glenelg is a short tram ride from the city centre. Fantastic beach. Just a short distance from Glenelg you have constant beautiful golden sand down to Brighton.
Um Adelaide has Mc Claren Vale and Barossa Valley both an hour or two drive. If you're gonna include Freo as a day trip for Perth you need to include Mc Claren Vale and the Barossa as day trips. Probably the best wine areas in the country. There's actually quite a big expat UK population in Australia. There's anb entire satellite city Elizabeth which was essentially all UK expats 30 years ago, and although the UK expats are less as a percentage than they were back then there are still quoite a lot of UK expats in Adelaide. My dad had a restaurant and I reckon 5 or 6 of the 8 or so main wait staff were Brits and they rotated between Perth, Adelaide and the UK - seems to be a pattern with Brit ex-pats. They miss the Tetley and mushy peas, then go back to the UK and miss the Aussie weather and every thing else, so a lot of them seem to get on an eternal roundabout between countries for a decade or two. An easy path to a visa is miltiary or police. Aussie defence force and a number of AUssie police forces are more than happy to snap up Brit ex police/services porsonel, because they just can't get enough locals - althoiugh i believe pay and benefits wise the military at least is quite a bit better paid than US/UK forces on average.
Adelaide was award the fifth most liveable city in the world. Cheapest place to live with a relaxed atmosphere with a huge food and wine culture. Adelaide was designed to be compact city surrounded by parklands.
From Adelaide. Navy sent me to Perth in 2010. Spent 8 years in the Navy then worked in IT for 5 years in Perth CBD. Lived in Bertram which was 35km from the city. Easy to get in and out of the city with the train or via car on Kwinana Fwy. However the traffic can be slow during peak times. The weather is much warmer than Adelaide. Food is expensive in Perth but utilities are cheaper. Moved back to Adelaide last year but the median house prices have increased 40% here. In hindsight I wish I bought a house in Adelaide instead of renting for 13 years.
Adelaide is very gourmet wine cheese pastries, small goods, fruit and vegetables are world class and easy to find. Also Adelaide is extremely easy to get around. If I was going to advertise and I'm not (local ordinance) I would put a sign 25 minutes out of the Melbourne or Sydney CBD saying "if you were in Adelaide you'd be home right now"
I'm sure Adelaide is great. In WA the real hubs for cheeses and wines are in Margaret River and Denmark. Certainly Perth has the Swan Valley, but most people are happy to travel 3-4 hours for the foody experience rather than go local.
If you plan on moving to Perth please know the rental market is absolute bollocks atm and is super hard to find a place. if you're considering either of these cities and are a person of colour the population is not so much diverse at the moment. In Perth, beaches NOR are rough and wavy, and SOR are more calm. Perth drivers are absolute sh*t 😂
I agree soo much that there is no diversity, I weren’t to Melbourne and it was the biggest shock to see how diverse everyone was there. It felt like home having loads of people that look like me but also other cultures.
Perth born and bred here. Definitely the West is the best!! Been to Adelaide and lived in Queensland/FNQ and Brisbane. Came back to Perth!! The people are far more friendly and laid back in WA.
I'm from lower Hunter NSW. My best weighted choice ATM is Adelaide due to CSIRO / Flinders Uni, better scrap/ junkyards and more sparse population and servos.
The wine regions in Adelaide are great... McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley 👍👍 The last time I was in Adelaide we also went across to the South East coast of South Australia - Robe and Kingston. Great holiday spots, and close to SA's best wine region of the Coonawarra. Great memories 🍷🍷
I'd recommend Perth to live. Great beaches. Bushland. Riverside activities. Beautiful city. Low key and relaxed atmosphere. Perfect climate, though can be very hot in summer. Along river and beaches are the best locations. If you want something quieter, I'd recommend Bunbury (2 hours from Perth). The town in the south west are great for holiday as surf beaches, wineries, bush walking... Though the most scenic spots in WA are on the south coast from Walpole through to Albany and the natural forests. (5 hours south of Perth).
No no Perth's bigger and brighter and more things to do in Perth you have Rottnest island everything nothing in Adelaide everyone says it boaring and we are leaving for WA soon wooooow I CARNT wait .I was brought up along Swan River from Jodi adag of Australia ❤️
So you have been to Kangaroo Island, the West coast of Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Southern Fleurieu Peninsula, the Flinders Rangers, the wine regions that are famous around the world and by the way Vivonne Bay on KI was voted the best beach in the World so you have Rottnest congrats. I have been to some of WA and yes it is beautiful but if you check out SA you will find it is also beautiful matey.
Perth is almost a million more people bigger than Adelaide now and the gap is increasing. Perth seems to build new infrastructure whereas Adelaide does upgrades (Perth Stadiim vs Adelaide Oval. Perth Arena vs Adl Entertainment Centre.) More music artists and shows tend to visit Perth over Adelaide now with the bigger population Perth has. For example Justin Beiber skipped Adelaide on hia last tour. Another lifestyle thing is the sea temp at the beach. Perth sea temp is a good 3-4 degrees warmer than Adelaide which is a big difference for how comfortable it is to swim even on a hot day. Plus Perth beaches are prettier with whiter sand and clearer water. Adelaide has those horrible 15 degree Maxmum days like Melbourne. Perth in general is a warmer city with warmer winters. I think another thing is trains, Perth electrified it's trains back in the 90's and has invested heavily in new stations and new trains. It has just opened it's Airport Rail line and is building another new line to an outer suburb. It is also building new c-series trains which will start being used next year. If you like your rugby, Perth has a better offering than Adelaide. A local Super Rugby team brings NZ and east coast teams to Perth plus the All Blacks with Bledisloe Cup matches and other Wallabies games at Perth Stadium.
@PPP 414 A lot of what you've said is very true. I was born in Adelaide and grew up there but I've spent most of my adult life in Perth and the South West. I do cringe at the way beautiful old buildings are destroyed in Perth in the name of progress. When I first moved here, St. George's Tce was visited by architects from all over the world because of the various designs of the office buildings. All built in the style of whatever country the owners had come from to make their fortunes during the gold rush. All gone now to be replaced with glass and steel boxes that have no appeal because you can see the same in almost every city. I have wondered why we in Perth could not save the buildings when we have so much room to spread outwards, while London in tiny UK, can save so many for their beauty and historical value.
@@marieravening927 there are very good reasons for improving architecture. Practicality, efficiency, power usage climate blah blah. The main reason? Stop looking back in time, we're not going that way. Stasis is NOT the way forward for humanity.

Lived in Perth for 10 years , very clean picturesque city and surrounds probably giving it a slight edge over Adelaide in that category. Unfortunately the remoteness of Perth is a huge negative. Adelaide is Definitely a better choice over Perth .
Perth knocked down a lot of older buildings in the 1960s during the mining booms. There was the argument that Perth was a country town and had to modernise. Great pity. Then during the mining boom around 2010 you had a dullsville argument hitting the papers again. Same sort of argument. Press was pushing to build on parkland, develop high rise on river and beach, more older buildings to be removed. Fortunately, this time the heritage groups stood firmer.
@PPP 414 Perth's soul is its newness and beauty. One thing I hated hearing is all the dullsville talk that seemed all the vogue 15 years ago. Surprise surprise. It coincided with the mining boom and people saying we had to develop and build new things to make our city modern and a once in a generation chance to develop it into an internat6ional city. All rubbish pushed by newspapers (and businessmen/developers). From what I read the same thing happened into the 1960s. Another massive mining boom. People kept talking about Perth being a big country town and how we had the chance to develop and so on... the result was that famous buildings were ripped down and replaced with glass and steel. Fortunately that was prevented in the last 15 years and the older buildings survived. The most ironic thing is that we are prevented from removing 1960s cheap and nasty high rise for heritage value.
@PPP 414 Perth is a bit less anti Vic/NSW than SA. Probably because we're more isolated and the eastern states is really out of sight out of mind. I do find the obsession of media to comment on Vic and NSW govt policies is a bit hard to take. There are 6 states and 2 territories. Whatever Dan Andrews or Gladys/Dom is doing is pretty irrelevant...
@PPP 414 SA is eastern states compared to Perth so not really a surprise. But the WA vs rest parochialism died out mid 1980s with the State of origin footy matches. And even then the SA took State of Origin rivalry to a new level. Maybe you were mixing with some old timers at a few country pubs. I don't doubt that the viewpoint exists somewhere. Its all about WA interests first, rather than particular interest or concern about eastern states. Of course policies should be largely set by state governments with their state interests. The trend towards federalism is a concern because ultimately the needs of the residents of WA Tassie NT SA and even much of Qld won't be met. But that's not parochialism. Its supposed to be a Commonwealth of States form of govt.
Daylight stupidity does not give you an extra hour of light. It means those who don't start work in the middle of the day are forced to go to work in the dark all year round. Perth has the Darling escarpment nearby which is also "very nice" for day trips.

Adelaide and SA have the best freshest fruit and vegetables and wine. in all of Australia. The easy lifestyle. and great climate. Perth is a beautiful place and Western Australia is huge. Why would I want to sit in a car for hours to get home or go to work? and then pay. overpriced car park fees.
You do realise Western Australia grows far more fresh fruit and vegetables than SA. It has weather zones from tropical to temperate. And do you think people commute from the outback to Perth or something!
Perth has a world class public transport system that is far superior than Adelaide’s, and the roads are twenty times better than Adelaide’s so actually, driving times wouldn’t be that much different. I don’t see how anyone in Perth would sit in cars for hours getting home or to work?
Adelaide is the best city in the world IMO. I was born here, have lived in both Melbourne and Perth and I would say Adelaide is my favourite city, hands down. Melbourne is too cold and rainy and the beaches aren't great, and too big/busy with so much traffic. Plus so expensive to buy a house or rent, road tolls etc. Although its lovely for different reasons too. I lived in Perth for 5 years and you really do feel isolated living over there, don't underestimate that. You are just so far away from the rest of Australia. It has beautiful beaches and very summery vibes but too windy, waaaaay too hot in the summer, the beaches are somehow not as friendly, better for surfing than nice family beaches really. The city is beautiful but too new with not enough character, not half as charming as Adelaide, which has much more history and a nice mix of both heritage and modern architecture. Overall I would say Adelaide is just the easiest, friendliest, nicest city to live in. People are so friendly. Its so relaxed living here. Most people are so nice and will help you out. People still smile at each other, strike up a conversation sometimes. Hardly any traffic, it takes 20 mins to get across the whole thing. The city has a logical design with lots of green spaces, easy public transport (tram) between the city and the beach. Lots of other good public transport too. The hills are close and so beautiful, the beaches are INCREDIBLE and equally close. The weather is much milder than Perth, still very sunny in the summer and lots of sunny days year round but we get a nice change of seasons too. Overall living here feels like you have settled into an endless summer. So many holiday destinations to get to easily, Goolwa, where the river meets the beach, and is only 1 hour away, Victor Harbour, Port Elliot (aka cutest town ever) Robe, Edithburgh, Innes National Park, the stunning Ayre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, I could go on and on. You can also drive to Melbourne in 8 hours if you don't take the scenic route, 10 if you do. Or a plane ride takes 1 hour. Which is great because Melbourne shopping is much better :) We have amazing restaurants, the food here is seriously good. We are not mucking around when it comes to food and wine. The stunning wine regions. McLaren Vale, Barossa. So many fun bars and night spots. The fringe festival every year in February/March! Look it up, you must come! So. Much. Fun. There's not heaps of nightlife, and the shopping isn't as good compared to Sydney or Melbourne, but its not bad either. You can get most things, and TBH I mostly shop online anyway these days. There is but lots of theatre, music, culture. Its also an extremely family friendly city, so nice to raise kids here. With hardly any commute it makes daily life with kids that much easier. Great schools, excellent universities. House prices have increased compared to what they used to be even 5 years ago but still a much more affordable place to live than Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. And its not boring!! I really hate it when people say that about Adelaide. There is so much to do here, things are on all the time for young and old. It depends what you want from where you live. If you want a big city feel with more nightlife, then go to Melbourne or Sydney. But if you want a cheaper, easier city with hardly any traffic and still great places to eat/have epic holidays/fun beach times then come here! One of the best actresses Teresa Palmer was born and raised here, and she now divides her time between LA and Adelaide with her family. Look up her instagram, she's got nothing but nice things to say about our state and has some great posts about places to visit, etc to give you an idea of what it's like. I honestly wouldn't live anywhere else in the world :)

Lots of winery's But in Adelaide to go to city beaches or countryside hills area between half hour to an hour travelling time depending what side of city your on and going to I live in North of Adelaide 20 mins to city same to beaches can be in countryside 45 mins or Adelaide Hills like Hahndorf hour Very easy to travelling Murray Bridge hour and half or Kadina 2 hours
I had to drive just north of Kadina (Alford) three times a week. From Port Wakefield down it's just one long straight of nothing but bare cropping paddocks and crazy Adelaide drivers let loose on the open road.

I'm from Melbourne and I've been to both Adelaide and Perth, I found Adelaide to be more friendly, more laid back, better public transport, Perth is just a "wanna be" city, just want to be better than any other city, if I moved to another city I'd choose Adelaide, Perth is too far away from the other capital cities.
@@sandrafowler6717 Interesting, we are trying to make this decision now where to move in Australia from London. Perth is high up there because it's a 17 hours direct flight to London, great beaches near residential areas (unlike say Brisbane), climate is hot but not humid, loads of sunny days, not too many rainy days, great infrastructure for drivers and not congested, low crime, more affordable than other cities closer to fly to places like Bali and it seems very pretty there. The biggest downside with Adelaide is you pretty much have to go via Perth or Sydney/Brisbane to go anywhere, salaries are lower and from my limited research it seems a bit boring, less concerts, less culture, less nice cafes/restaurants, etc.
Yeah adelaide went broke in the 90s with the state bank disaster. Also, adelaides lay out sort of hinders expansion. Hills and sea make the urban sprawl north south. A bit more built up than perth. A bit more edge to it as well. Tbh I'd live in adelaide from Feb to April. Then April to September in perth.
The problem is Adelaide just cant keep young people there. They often move to Sydney or Melbourne because there is just so much to do there. not to mention 2 of the best universities in the world happen to be in Sydney and Melbourne. Adelaide struggles to entice people to stay because they are too close to Melbourne. Perth doesnt really have that issue since they have the massive mining industry which entices a lot of people to move over here. It makes sense why Perth's population has exploded and is often one of the top cities in Australia with regards to population growth.
I cannot believe you failed to mention one of Adelaide'S best assets, being Australia's wine's capital, with Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale providing an array of thousands of amazing wineries to browse through within a 30 minutes drive from the CBD. And many more wine regions a bit further. ;)
Ahem. Perth has the top 2% of export wines, plus ordinary stuff. Perth has about 15 different wine districts, including one that begins 20 mins from the city! Plus you can add in truffle growing and exotic foods blah blah, particularly Asian. Perth is so far ahead it's not funny. As a separate country WA is the wealthiest on Earth ahead of Qatar and Switzerland. Perth has waves, important to Australians, Adelaide doesn't. City centre? Adelaide is cute, with short buildings. I spent 25 years of my life in Adelaide one week.....You have parks, but nothing to compare with Kings Park, Herdsman Lake, Bold Park etc. The Eastern States have other EASTERN States and New Zealand. That's it. Perth is closer to the world, only 15 hours to London! Another mistake she made is; Perth earns 60% of Australian export income, we are in the same time zone as 40% of the world's money, can contact 75% of the world's economy on any given day. We work. We pay for the parasites to have daylight saving, we're getting sick and tired of it, we will secede.
@@Quinctili Most of that is unimportant, no one cares that the state has more mining magnates that sell millions of tons of ore to countries like China and dodge paying taxes so the people there don't benefit from it, only suffer when it became the second most expensive city in Australia for housing. But that was only inflated because of the mining boom. Adelaide has more park area by far...almost double the size...yes Kings park is prettier, but that also comes with having almost a million more taxpayers.
Been a lot of videos recently comparing Perth with this city or that city in Australia. The one thing all the videos seem to have in common is... Perth and why other cities are trying to justify why they're better. So, why not try Perth and find out for yourselves if it's the best place to live or not?

No West Beach anymore. Not much of the beaches left at all really except the ones that have sand carted daily by dump trucks. Caused by the continuous line of seawalls right along the suburban coast and removing the natural sand replenishment the natural sand dunes provided. The only natural section is a 200 metre strip of remnant dunes between Somerton and Hove/Brighton beach.
I like your view on both cities though there is no way Adelaide city centre feels bigger than Perths yes Perth centre is spread out though and feels a lot bigger than Adelaide though that’s my view…Perth city has way taller skyscrapers than Adelaide’s were Adelaide has not so tall stumpy buildings cramped in a square. Also Perth is predicted to be Australia’s 3rd biggest city in not to distant future.
Yes Perth is at 2.3 million now and Brisbane 2.5.. Technically SEQ will have a bigger population but Perth metro population proper will overtake Brisbane metro proper according to govt statistics within the decade

Perths cbd is a dead spot. The river is beautiful. But the city has no feel or vibe. Barely any people or eateries or vibe. Adelaides cbd and parklands beat it for sure. It feels larger. Not in relation to building heights. Perth and Brisbanes cbds are interchangeable tbh. Bland places for cars and freeways. Melbourne looks like an ugly Hong Kong when you drive to it but it and adelaide have similar cbds in that there is more vibe and foot traffic.

I don't understand how is Perth isolated when it's so close to all the Asian countries, including Kolkata, Indian where I'm from. Hubby is from Sydney, living in Perth over 30 yrs, and prefers it's We'll be going to Sydney in December, first time for me and the kids, looking forward to it
Cut to the chase... Perth is just like any other big metropolis in the world... except it's the most remote metropolis in the world. It's a better place to start if you want to start a family. Adelaide is still like an ''old'' Australian city before the mega-boom economies and mega-corporations took over. It's a good place to live - if you're over 65.

The shopping area is quite small and u can only visit artistic, cultured places or see the nature or sthing like that during the weekend. It’s quite boring and sad compared to other cities. But it’s cleaner than Perth and u can move around places easier and faster tho (since there’s tram and Adelaide overall is quite small, important places stick together)
I would suppose that you'd need a signed job contract to be able to move there. How would you assess the chances of just hopping over and try to catch a job over there ? And what kinid of jobs would you be looking at, considering the rental prices......?
Adelaidean here, Have to agree. the only advantage of Adelaide over Perth is relatively closer to the other parts of the country. Perth is like on the other side the planet.
Hey guys, don't forget the Swan Valley for wineries and some great food and only 30-40 minutes drive from the city centre and it also has Sandalford Winery and Nicola Winery where some great music concerts and shows are held!!
Excellent review. I've lived for significant amounts of time in Adelaide (born), Brisbane, Townsville and Perth (currently) and would have to say that Brisbane is my favourite, especially the weather and proximity to the Gold Coast.
@@creampudding6736 Adelaide I'd say is generally 2 degrees celsius warmer on any winter day, e.g 17 versus 15. you'll also get a few more sunny days each month in Adelaide, but still cold.
@@richieb7353 Adelaide winters tend to be more 'miserable' than Melbourne, Summers are constantly much hotter with much longer continuous spells. In other words, too hot in summer and bloody miserable in winter compared to Melbourne which can have that and more in one day. Too unpredictable.

I love both cities. I was born and raised in Adelaide. Worked in the US for two decades and returned to Australia, where I've been living in Perth for the past 23 years. I will say that Perth's winters are much warmer than Adelaide and there are very few overcast days in Perth, even during the winters. However, Adelaide has some beautiful, charming older suburbs and a lot of culture, especially European which I love.

The one thing that would put me off moving back there would be the long extremely hot summers, its just not pleasant walking round any of the inland suburbs in 40 plus degrees, the streets were pretty much empty and the hum of air con units can be heard behind the closed blinds (seemed like everyone was hiding),However the rest of the Year particularly spring was a delight.

Agree with this. Adelaide has a better nightlife than Sydney even at this point. What adelaide and perth have is sunsets over the sea horizon. Perth beaches are great. Adelaide metro beaches are decent for a dip. But everyone in adelaide has a holiday shack across the peninsula to getaway. Adelaides hills are underrated

Adelaide sits in a basin so it is completely surrounded by hills, not a lot of sea breeze whereas Perth spreads along the coast and gets the Fremantle doctor comes in, Adelaide is an older city too

Try South West WA for wineries there are heaps of them and some of them are the best wine making in the world.
In my experience, at Adelaide beaches the water is calm flat and shallow ie good for a paddle. Perth ocean beaches are much more prone to winds and waves, hence great for board, body & wind surfing, but waters are deeper & can be treacherous on occasion. River beaches good for paddling. Sharks sometimes get hungry in Perth coastal waters - dont know about Adelaide. Suburban railway significantly more developed in Perth. Perth probably more decentralised than Adelaide. Perth is certainly windy.

Loved this video, it mirrors my thoughts on the two cities. It's interesting to see comments here where people say their city is better blah blah blah. I think it is fantastic that this beautiful country has cities so different but for someone looking to travel or move to Australia it may be good to chose either Adelaide or Perth unless your sole purpose is to go clubbing and nightlife, then chose Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. Geographically Adelaide is probably best if you want to keep your costs down and use it as your base place to live and then get a cheap flight from city to city. Anyway, if you are Australian, be proud of your whole country, it's the best in the World :) Also need to add in that Adelaide is the only city in Australia where the CBD is in the middle of the Greater Adelaide city which makes getting to and from the city quite easy and fast. It's is not a city where you will be stuck in the car for four hours per day (unless you are a cab/Uber driver :)
Both are great cities. A lot of Perth people never go to the east coast of Australia. I've only ever been to Adelaide and Melbouren and that was due to relatives. In Perth you just go overseas.

Im from Perth, lived here all my life. Ive visited Adelaide on numerous occasions and what strikes me everytime is the difference in the finer details. Perths roads and highways are so much better planned and constructed. The intent on streetscaping in Perth is way more evident than the effort in Adelaide. In Perth the footpaths and median strips on roads are either neatly paved or cemented whereas in Adelaide you see more bituminised paths and strips. Perth shows off its wealth of native plant species in its landscaping and parks. Perth is a very beautiful city in its natural setting, Adelaide isnt flattering and has power poles called “Stobies” and Perth uses timber or underground cables. Perths rail system and public transport system in general is world class. Perth has the Swan River and lakes scattered throughout the metropolitan area so with the beaches you see heaps more water. Perth has Fremantle which and Adelaide has Port Adelaide which doesnt compare to Fremantle. But if youre not into aesthetics or natural beauty, pick Adelaide.

Another West Aussie here, and I agree with you 100%....One thing you didn't say was how bad Adelaides water is to drink. I couldn't handle it lol. Also, the water at our beaches stays warmer a lot longer than Adelaide's so we can still swim here up to around mid April.. Plus Perth is the gate way to the Kimberley's, the most beautiful scenery in the world, with Karajini National Park - The Bungle bungles - Geikie Gorge - The Ord River system - The Horizontal Falls - The Ningaloo Reef off Coral Bay Exmouth - The Recherche Archipelago 104 islands off Esperance with the best fishing both South and North that anyone could ask for - The Peel Estuary in Mandurah for crabbing / prawning / fishing / boating / dolphins / kite surfing / sailboarding / canoeing and I could keep on going. Western Australia has it all, with more than you can possibly imagine
@@roslynjonsson2383 water temp is something people don't think about when it comes to beaches. The water temp is Adelaide is uncomfortably cold for most of the year and even in summer is a few degrees colder than in Perth.

That is why I prefer Southern Florida beaches, where the water is warm all year long. Is there anywhere in Australia were the water never goes below 70F or 21C, like say Miami Beach?

Just about to leave India after a month of grass routes touring. Returning to Adelaide via Perth. You live in paradise wether it is Adelaide or Perth , everything else is a first world issue or a mere inconvenience.
I've lived in both Adelaide and Perth for around 10 years each, now in Adelaide. Perth has a beach vibe and is a more modern city with regards to its architecture. It's also obviously a much wealthier city due to Western Australia's massive mining industry. Adelaide is the perfect mix of old and new, in my opinion the food/wine culture is much more part of its social fabric than in Perth. Adelaide's arts scene is arguably the best in the country given it's population is only one quarter that of Syney and Melbs.

But according to the Bureau of Statistics WA has less crime per capita then all states and territories bar Melbourne and the ACT. Whereas Adelaide has the second highest crime rate per capita only being surpassed by the Northern Territory. The main crimes in both states were drug offenses and assault offenses.

You have missed some significant differences.
Adelaide is abundant with history and culture and has a notable European appeal whereas Perth is modern and has a striking river the size of a harbour.
Both are exquisite cities and I believe Oz’s two best.
I live in Adelaide which for me is the best city in the world, but we do have a colder and greyer winter which suits the old world vibe of the city.
A drive in the Adel Hills is like a day out in Great Britain or Europe, as too are our magnificent wine regions, 16 distinct regions making Adelaide one of the great wine capitals of the world.
That said, if I didn’t live here I would move to Perth but for many different reasons, some of which you captured.

We are lucky in Adelaide because we live a European lifestyle which of course has the added hybrid of the unique Australian culture and flora and fauna.
The red river gums are at their most majestic in SA because of the drier climate.
I've just come across this video and I think it's great. I am Perth born and bred but have travelled a lot of Australia. Perth is beautiful and Adelaide and Brisbane are not far behind. Melbourne is great and very cultural, Tassie is beautiful but too cold for me and Sydney is too busy and noisy. Regardless of my opinions, everyone that lives in OZ should be more patriotic and proud to live in this amazing country we call home regardless of which city you live in!!

A friend of ours was born in Perth, and he'll never go back there, he now resides in Adelaide, he has stated that he will never go back to Perth, he likes Adelaide's live music and sports culture, he has also said if he was to move to a city in another state he'd move to Melbourne, he finds Perth boring.
Been to Perth, most people I talked to find Perth boring, from Uber drivers to other people I met.
Whilst I understand the title of the video, I think the two are distinctively different, making for a difficult comparison. Adelaide is without a doubt better for a more ‘urban’ experience with Adelaide CBD being fantastic and yes, it’s certainly closer to the east coast, however i think Perth is sort of flying under the radar at present as becoming the most prosperous parts of the country due to the lower cost of property and higher median incomes and job prospects, combined with beautiful and untouched coastlines. Perth wins it for me, but I see why some prefer Adelaide.

I emigrated to Australia in 2008, and my choice of destination was between Adelaide and Perth. I loved both cities, and the fact that they were both cheaper and less frenetic/overcrowded than Sydney & Melbourne (before anyone mentions Brisbane or Darwin, I'd already been to both places and discounted them; too hot/too much crime/too little infrastructure/too little culture). In the end I plumped for Perth, mostly because I work in construction and Perth was undergoing a boom in that area at the time I moved. But the two cities are remarkably similar in climate, culture, populations, and lifestyle. And for some reason people in Melbourne and Sydney still sneer at them, as they pay $$$$$$$$ for a dogbox located 2 hours outside the city.
The only criticism I have of Perth is the drivers; oh my fucking word. I have driven in Cuba, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, Cambodia, and Hong Kong, and Perth has the shittest drivers I have EVER seen.
I have to agree on the atrocious driving. Defensive driving is essential in WA to avoid being backed into, side swiped, head on'ed or rear ended - such are the skills of the other drivers who have a flair for misjudgement, driving in the middle of the road and simply not looking or thinking before they act.

I only found data from 2021 per city and Sydney first followed by Perth and then Melbourne, Brisbane etc. i think lots of people don’t realise how wealthy the people in WA are, the mining money is no joke. Add to that way lower housing prices and people really have a lot of disposable income. So the lack of toll roads and the abundance of free parking are a nice bonus too!

Beaches in Adelaide stretch along the whole coast for kms . Glenelg is a short tram ride from the city centre. Fantastic beach. Just a short distance from Glenelg you have constant beautiful golden sand down to Brighton.
If you like the arts, there is no question that Adelaide is better.
Um Adelaide has Mc Claren Vale and Barossa Valley both an hour or two drive. If you're gonna include Freo as a day trip for Perth you need to include Mc Claren Vale and the Barossa as day trips. Probably the best wine areas in the country.
There's actually quite a big expat UK population in Australia. There's anb entire satellite city Elizabeth which was essentially all UK expats 30 years ago, and although the UK expats are less as a percentage than they were back then there are still quoite a lot of UK expats in Adelaide.
My dad had a restaurant and I reckon 5 or 6 of the 8 or so main wait staff were Brits and they rotated between Perth, Adelaide and the UK - seems to be a pattern with Brit ex-pats. They miss the Tetley and mushy peas, then go back to the UK and miss the Aussie weather and every thing else, so a lot of them seem to get on an eternal roundabout between countries for a decade or two.
An easy path to a visa is miltiary or police. Aussie defence force and a number of AUssie police forces are more than happy to snap up Brit ex police/services porsonel, because they just can't get enough locals - althoiugh i believe pay and benefits wise the military at least is quite a bit better paid than US/UK forces on average.

Adelaide was award the fifth most liveable city in the world. Cheapest place to live with a relaxed atmosphere with a huge food and wine culture.
Adelaide was designed to be compact city surrounded by parklands.
Unfortunately that was back in 2020 but we have dropped down to like 20 now. At least we're slowly climbing back up

From Adelaide. Navy sent me to Perth in 2010. Spent 8 years in the Navy then worked in IT for 5 years in Perth CBD. Lived in Bertram which was 35km from the city. Easy to get in and out of the city with the train or via car on Kwinana Fwy. However the traffic can be slow during peak times. The weather is much warmer than Adelaide. Food is expensive in Perth but utilities are cheaper. Moved back to Adelaide last year but the median house prices have increased 40% here. In hindsight I wish I bought a house in Adelaide instead of renting for 13 years.
Adelaide is very gourmet wine cheese pastries, small goods, fruit and vegetables are world class and easy to find. Also Adelaide is extremely easy to get around. If I was going to advertise and I'm not (local ordinance) I would put a sign 25 minutes out of the Melbourne or Sydney CBD saying "if you were in Adelaide you'd be home right now"

I'm sure Adelaide is great. In WA the real hubs for cheeses and wines are in Margaret River and Denmark. Certainly Perth has the Swan Valley, but most people are happy to travel 3-4 hours for the foody experience rather than go local.
If you plan on moving to Perth please know the rental market is absolute bollocks atm and is super hard to find a place.
if you're considering either of these cities and are a person of colour the population is not so much diverse at the moment.

I'd recommend Perth to live. Great beaches. Bushland. Riverside activities. Beautiful city. Low key and relaxed atmosphere. Perfect climate, though can be very hot in summer. Along river and beaches are the best locations. If you want something quieter, I'd recommend Bunbury (2 hours from Perth). The town in the south west are great for holiday as surf beaches, wineries, bush walking... Though the most scenic spots in WA are on the south coast from Walpole through to Albany and the natural forests. (5 hours south of Perth).

So you have been to Kangaroo Island, the West coast of Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Southern Fleurieu Peninsula, the Flinders Rangers, the wine regions that are famous around the world and by the way Vivonne Bay on KI was voted the best beach in the World so you have Rottnest congrats. I have been to some of WA and yes it is beautiful but if you check out SA you will find it is also beautiful matey.
Perth is almost a million more people bigger than Adelaide now and the gap is increasing. Perth seems to build new infrastructure whereas Adelaide does upgrades (Perth Stadiim vs Adelaide Oval. Perth Arena vs Adl Entertainment Centre.) More music artists and shows tend to visit Perth over Adelaide now with the bigger population Perth has. For example Justin Beiber skipped Adelaide on hia last tour. Another lifestyle thing is the sea temp at the beach. Perth sea temp is a good 3-4 degrees warmer than Adelaide which is a big difference for how comfortable it is to swim even on a hot day. Plus Perth beaches are prettier with whiter sand and clearer water. Adelaide has those horrible 15 degree Maxmum days like Melbourne. Perth in general is a warmer city with warmer winters. I think another thing is trains, Perth electrified it's trains back in the 90's and has invested heavily in new stations and new trains. It has just opened it's Airport Rail line and is building another new line to an outer suburb. It is also building new c-series trains which will start being used next year. If you like your rugby, Perth has a better offering than Adelaide. A local Super Rugby team brings NZ and east coast teams to Perth plus the All Blacks with Bledisloe Cup matches and other Wallabies games at Perth Stadium.
@PPP 414 A lot of what you've said is very true. I was born in Adelaide and grew up there but I've spent most of my adult life in Perth and the South West.
I do cringe at the way beautiful old buildings are destroyed in Perth in the name of progress.
When I first moved here, St. George's Tce was visited by architects from all over the world because of the various designs of the office buildings. All built in the style of whatever country the owners had come from to make their fortunes during the gold rush.
All gone now to be replaced with glass and steel boxes that have no appeal because you can see the same in almost every city.
I have wondered why we in Perth could not save the buildings when we have so much room to spread outwards, while London in tiny UK, can save so many for their beauty and historical value.

Lived in Perth for 10 years , very clean picturesque city and surrounds probably giving it a slight edge over Adelaide in that category. Unfortunately the remoteness of Perth is a huge negative. Adelaide is Definitely a better choice over Perth .

Perth knocked down a lot of older buildings in the 1960s during the mining booms. There was the argument that Perth was a country town and had to modernise. Great pity. Then during the mining boom around 2010 you had a dullsville argument hitting the papers again. Same sort of argument. Press was pushing to build on parkland, develop high rise on river and beach, more older buildings to be removed. Fortunately, this time the heritage groups stood firmer.
@PPP 414 Perth's soul is its newness and beauty. One thing I hated hearing is all the dullsville talk that seemed all the vogue 15 years ago. Surprise surprise. It coincided with the mining boom and people saying we had to develop and build new things to make our city modern and a once in a generation chance to develop it into an internat6ional city. All rubbish pushed by newspapers (and businessmen/developers).
From what I read the same thing happened into the 1960s. Another massive mining boom. People kept talking about Perth being a big country town and how we had the chance to develop and so on... the result was that famous buildings were ripped down and replaced with glass and steel.
Fortunately that was prevented in the last 15 years and the older buildings survived. The most ironic thing is that we are prevented from removing 1960s cheap and nasty high rise for heritage value.
@PPP 414 Perth is a bit less anti Vic/NSW than SA. Probably because we're more isolated and the eastern states is really out of sight out of mind. I do find the obsession of media to comment on Vic and NSW govt policies is a bit hard to take. There are 6 states and 2 territories. Whatever Dan Andrews or Gladys/Dom is doing is pretty irrelevant...
@PPP 414 SA is eastern states compared to Perth so not really a surprise. But the WA vs rest parochialism died out mid 1980s with the State of origin footy matches. And even then the SA took State of Origin rivalry to a new level. Maybe you were mixing with some old timers at a few country pubs. I don't doubt that the viewpoint exists somewhere.
Its all about WA interests first, rather than particular interest or concern about eastern states. Of course policies should be largely set by state governments with their state interests. The trend towards federalism is a concern because ultimately the needs of the residents of WA Tassie NT SA and even much of Qld won't be met. But that's not parochialism. Its supposed to be a Commonwealth of States form of govt.
Regrettably I have to visit Perth once a month for business.. WA is a beautiful state. But Perth? I’ll be staying in Adelaide thank you very much!
Daylight stupidity does not give you an extra hour of light. It means those who don't start work in the middle of the day are forced to go to work in the dark all year round.
Perth has the Darling escarpment nearby which is also "very nice" for day trips.

Adelaide and SA have the best freshest fruit and vegetables and wine. in all of Australia. The easy lifestyle. and great climate. Perth is a beautiful place and Western Australia is huge. Why would I want to sit in a car for hours to get home or go to work? and then pay. overpriced car park fees.
You do realise Western Australia grows far more fresh fruit and vegetables than SA. It has weather zones from tropical to temperate. And do you think people commute from the outback to Perth or something!
Perth has a world class public transport system that is far superior than Adelaide’s, and the roads are twenty times better than Adelaide’s so actually, driving times wouldn’t be that much different. I don’t see how anyone in Perth would sit in cars for hours getting home or to work?
Adelaide is the best city in the world IMO. I was born here, have lived in both Melbourne and Perth and I would say Adelaide is my favourite city, hands down. Melbourne is too cold and rainy and the beaches aren't great, and too big/busy with so much traffic. Plus so expensive to buy a house or rent, road tolls etc. Although its lovely for different reasons too. I lived in Perth for 5 years and you really do feel isolated living over there, don't underestimate that. You are just so far away from the rest of Australia. It has beautiful beaches and very summery vibes but too windy, waaaaay too hot in the summer, the beaches are somehow not as friendly, better for surfing than nice family beaches really. The city is beautiful but too new with not enough character, not half as charming as Adelaide, which has much more history and a nice mix of both heritage and modern architecture. Overall I would say Adelaide is just the easiest, friendliest, nicest city to live in. People are so friendly. Its so relaxed living here. Most people are so nice and will help you out. People still smile at each other, strike up a conversation sometimes. Hardly any traffic, it takes 20 mins to get across the whole thing. The city has a logical design with lots of green spaces, easy public transport (tram) between the city and the beach. Lots of other good public transport too. The hills are close and so beautiful, the beaches are INCREDIBLE and equally close. The weather is much milder than Perth, still very sunny in the summer and lots of sunny days year round but we get a nice change of seasons too. Overall living here feels like you have settled into an endless summer. So many holiday destinations to get to easily, Goolwa, where the river meets the beach, and is only 1 hour away, Victor Harbour, Port Elliot (aka cutest town ever) Robe, Edithburgh, Innes National Park, the stunning Ayre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, I could go on and on. You can also drive to Melbourne in 8 hours if you don't take the scenic route, 10 if you do. Or a plane ride takes 1 hour. Which is great because Melbourne shopping is much better :) We have amazing restaurants, the food here is seriously good. We are not mucking around when it comes to food and wine. The stunning wine regions. McLaren Vale, Barossa. So many fun bars and night spots. The fringe festival every year in February/March! Look it up, you must come! So. Much. Fun. There's not heaps of nightlife, and the shopping isn't as good compared to Sydney or Melbourne, but its not bad either. You can get most things, and TBH I mostly shop online anyway these days. There is but lots of theatre, music, culture. Its also an extremely family friendly city, so nice to raise kids here. With hardly any commute it makes daily life with kids that much easier. Great schools, excellent universities. House prices have increased compared to what they used to be even 5 years ago but still a much more affordable place to live than Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. And its not boring!! I really hate it when people say that about Adelaide. There is so much to do here, things are on all the time for young and old. It depends what you want from where you live. If you want a big city feel with more nightlife, then go to Melbourne or Sydney. But if you want a cheaper, easier city with hardly any traffic and still great places to eat/have epic holidays/fun beach times then come here! One of the best actresses Teresa Palmer was born and raised here, and she now divides her time between LA and Adelaide with her family. Look up her instagram, she's got nothing but nice things to say about our state and has some great posts about places to visit, etc to give you an idea of what it's like. I honestly wouldn't live anywhere else in the world :)

I had to drive just north of Kadina (Alford) three times a week. From Port Wakefield down it's just one long straight of nothing but bare cropping paddocks and crazy Adelaide drivers let loose on the open road.
Perth is just too far away from anywhere. The closest comparable city is Adelaide, which is a 4 hour plane trip. Adelaide is much better.

I'm from Melbourne and I've been to both Adelaide and Perth, I found Adelaide to be more friendly, more laid back, better public transport, Perth is just a "wanna be" city, just want to be better than any other city, if I moved to another city I'd choose Adelaide, Perth is too far away from the other capital cities.
@@sandrafowler6717 Interesting, we are trying to make this decision now where to move in Australia from London. Perth is high up there because it's a 17 hours direct flight to London, great beaches near residential areas (unlike say Brisbane), climate is hot but not humid, loads of sunny days, not too many rainy days, great infrastructure for drivers and not congested, low crime, more affordable than other cities closer to fly to places like Bali and it seems very pretty there.
The biggest downside with Adelaide is you pretty much have to go via Perth or Sydney/Brisbane to go anywhere, salaries are lower and from my limited research it seems a bit boring, less concerts, less culture, less nice cafes/restaurants, etc.
Hard to believe that Adelaide had a bigger population than Perth up till the 80s and now it's 1 million less 🤷♂️

Yeah adelaide went broke in the 90s with the state bank disaster. Also, adelaides lay out sort of hinders expansion. Hills and sea make the urban sprawl north south. A bit more built up than perth. A bit more edge to it as well. Tbh I'd live in adelaide from Feb to April. Then April to September in perth.

The problem is Adelaide just cant keep young people there. They often move to Sydney or Melbourne because there is just so much to do there. not to mention 2 of the best universities in the world happen to be in Sydney and Melbourne. Adelaide struggles to entice people to stay because they are too close to Melbourne. Perth doesnt really have that issue since they have the massive mining industry which entices a lot of people to move over here. It makes sense why Perth's population has exploded and is often one of the top cities in Australia with regards to population growth.
I cannot believe you failed to mention one of Adelaide'S best assets, being Australia's wine's capital, with Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale providing an array of thousands of amazing wineries to browse through within a 30 minutes drive from the CBD. And many more wine regions a bit further. ;)

Ahem. Perth has the top 2% of export wines, plus ordinary stuff. Perth has about 15 different wine districts, including one that begins 20 mins from the city! Plus you can add in truffle growing and exotic foods blah blah, particularly Asian. Perth is so far ahead it's not funny. As a separate country WA is the wealthiest on Earth ahead of Qatar and Switzerland. Perth has waves, important to Australians, Adelaide doesn't. City centre? Adelaide is cute, with short buildings. I spent 25 years of my life in Adelaide one week.....You have parks, but nothing to compare with Kings Park, Herdsman Lake, Bold Park etc. The Eastern States have other EASTERN States and New Zealand. That's it. Perth is closer to the world, only 15 hours to London! Another mistake she made is; Perth earns 60% of Australian export income, we are in the same time zone as 40% of the world's money, can contact 75% of the world's economy on any given day. We work. We pay for the parasites to have daylight saving, we're getting sick and tired of it, we will secede.

Most of that is unimportant, no one cares that the state has more mining magnates that sell millions of tons of ore to countries like China and dodge paying taxes so the people there don't benefit from it, only suffer when it became the second most expensive city in Australia for housing. But that was only inflated because of the mining boom. Adelaide has more park area by far...almost double the size...yes Kings park is prettier, but that also comes with having almost a million more taxpayers.
Been a lot of videos recently comparing Perth with this city or that city in Australia. The one thing all the videos seem to have in common is... Perth and why other cities are trying to justify why they're better. So, why not try Perth and find out for yourselves if it's the best place to live or not?

I miss driving in the barossa valleys especially the loolout point at Mengler Hills..good memories when studying there..after the final exams in summer id go to West Beach to cool off and enjoy the sunset
No West Beach anymore. Not much of the beaches left at all really except the ones that have sand carted daily by dump trucks. Caused by the continuous line of seawalls right along the suburban coast and removing the natural sand replenishment the natural sand dunes provided. The only natural section is a 200 metre strip of remnant dunes between Somerton and Hove/Brighton beach.

I like your view on both cities though there is no way Adelaide city centre feels bigger than Perths yes Perth centre is spread out though and feels a lot bigger than Adelaide though that’s my view…Perth city has way taller skyscrapers than Adelaide’s were Adelaide has not so tall stumpy buildings cramped in a square.
Also Perth is predicted to be Australia’s 3rd biggest city in not to distant future.

Yes Perth is at 2.3 million now and Brisbane 2.5.. Technically SEQ will have a bigger population but Perth metro population proper will overtake Brisbane metro proper according to govt statistics within the decade

Perths cbd is a dead spot. The river is beautiful. But the city has no feel or vibe. Barely any people or eateries or vibe. Adelaides cbd and parklands beat it for sure. It feels larger. Not in relation to building heights. Perth and Brisbanes cbds are interchangeable tbh. Bland places for cars and freeways. Melbourne looks like an ugly Hong Kong when you drive to it but it and adelaide have similar cbds in that there is more vibe and foot traffic.

Cut to the chase... Perth is just like any other big metropolis in the world... except it's the most remote metropolis in the world. It's a better place to start if you want to start a family. Adelaide is still like an ''old'' Australian city before the mega-boom economies and mega-corporations took over. It's a good place to live - if you're over 65.

The shopping area is quite small and u can only visit artistic, cultured places or see the nature or sthing like that during the weekend. It’s quite boring and sad compared to other cities. But it’s cleaner than Perth and u can move around places easier and faster tho (since there’s tram and Adelaide overall is quite small, important places stick together)
