Hi Gretchen! I just read a sample of Lily and the Octopus. It’s so engaging, right from the start. Thank you for recommending it. My reading wish list is better since you started doing this videos. I understand what you mean by reading something different to reset. Some books are so emotionally exhausting, I need a breather. Like The Shack, which still haunts me.
There is a lighthearted book that I’ve kept for those occasions. Tonight I looked for this book so I could recommend it but I cannot find it! Does that ever happen to you? It’s such a trigger for me and I only remember one word in the title. The word is Betty and she insisted on always wearing her old worn out slippers. Her poor son, who was partly taking care of her, was beside himself about her refusing to wear the new slippers he bought her. She was such a delightfully hard-headed character. When I find it I’ll post a comment to share. 🌸

I forget things like that all the time!!! The worst part is that I will be doing the most mundane thing and all of the sudden it will come to me and I’ll say out loud what it was 😂🤣😂

I usually read heavy books, too, and I do mix things up sometimes by reading lighter books. I love Steven Rowley and have read Lily and the Octopus, The Guncle, and The Guncle Abroad. I want to read all his books and have just started (I’m on chapter two) reading The Celebrants. I also have The Editor checked out of the library. I haven’t read enough of The Celebrants to form an opinion, but Lily and the Octopus will stay with me forever.

I haven’t read The Editor so I will add it to my TBR. I live Steven Rowley too and I always go into his books expecting to be emotionally impacted. Sadly, The Celebrants didn’t fully hit the mark but it was still worth a read. Hope you enjoy it!

This was definitely one of those books where I loved the idea of it but it just didn’t fully deliver. I’ve had a really good reading year so I guess I shouldn’t complain too much though 😊

This is the first review that seemed to be not a recommendation. If I were part of that group I’d want to have a funeral once a week and my friends would be sick of me haha. The other two sound interesting and like-able. I’ve never read any of his books. I typically read a non fiction magazine like National Geographic in between fiction books as a change of pace along w news paper articles.
