When I lived on COMO, I went out to your daddy’s house with JG Stewart, looking for some Johnny Smith records. You came by it honestly.

Hi Deke, this is David Atkins. I was Jerry and Jan McWorder's sound engineer at Yolie's in Ventura. I love your new channel and find your information very interesting.I think it's really neat that you are using a Thorens TD124 with a Rec-o-kut tone arm. Those are really neat machines. It's great to see you out there on the Web. I sure miss working with you at the restaurant. Your shows were always top-notch. Best wishes, Dave

In 1986, my partner and I produced a concert on Dwight Yoakum at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim. Rose Maddox was in attendance and I offered to take her backstage to introduce her to Dwight. Rose was all for it. If you could have seen the look on Dwight's face when I said, let me introduce you to Rose Maddox. Dwight knew exactly who Rose was and kept her in the dressing room talking about her days in Bakersfield. A few years later, I met Rose again backstage at the Grand Ol' Opry and we reminisced about her first time meeting Dwight. Incidentally, we had a full house and turned it two times. I believe "I'm A Honky Tonk Man." was in the number 3 spot on Billboard that week.

So glad you decided to play "Another Day, Another Dollar." I think that's James Burton on lead guitar. Glad you spotlighted the Bakersfield Sound box set too. Love ya, Deke!

Hey Deke! So glad to find you on the UA-cams again! I most know Wyn from those Jackpot rockabilly sides, nice to get a more full picture of the man and his influence. And yeah, where would we be without those Bear Family box sets?

Deke Dickerson, I really enjoy all that you do. Be it Rock A Billy music, or old guitars, During the early 80's I used to sit in and play bass guitar with a fine picker and singer named, Buddy Kendricks. I had heard that he had run with the Bakersfield crowd at one time. I am wondering if you have run into any information about Buddy?

A unique quality of Wynn Stewart's records was the drumming of Helen "Peaches" Price. She really drags the beat. I don't know if it was intentional or just her style, but I think it makes Wynn's records sound a little bit more bluesy and I love it.

I'm guessing Bakersfield wasn't the recording mecca it is, today. What it had after the war was a ton of dancehalls filled with Okie aerospace workers eager to spend their Lockheed, Grumman and Northrop paychecks.
