  • Deke Dickerson really likes records. He likes talking about records in an entertaining, fun way. This new UA-cam series I LIKE RECORDS will educate you and make you hungry for vinyl of your own! This week's episode is all about "Acetate" records, what they are and a bit of the history behind some of the most valuable records you can find out in the wild. At the end of the episode, Deke plays a rare, one-of-a-kind rockabilly acetate that has never been heard before, so you know you have to watch all the way to the end! If you enjoy this series, please like, follow, share! Tips are appreciated: Paypal to eccofonic@earthlink.net. or Venmo to @Deke-Dickerson (if they ask you for the last four digits of the phone number, it is 1080). Thanks and enjoy this new I LIKE RECORDS series!

3 great episodes so far, welcome to the UA-cam vinyl community Deke! Really digging what yer doing. My channel focuses mainly on punk records but I’ve got a rock’n’roll heart and am always interested to learn more about the roots of the music and the medium. Cheers man

Super cool - I've never run across an acetate in the wild. I hope you made a high quality recording of that gem already!

Aha. The original unbeknownst Cutta Cake. I still play your version from the No1 hit record el pea. One thing. Never take alcohol cleaners to an acetate, will wipe off the grooves, Some say mild detergent and lukewarm water. Some say Don't do nuthin- let them be. Greetings from Scotland....

Wow, that unreleased Rockabilly tune is really great! Looking forward to the day when it will be released on a compilation. Over the years I found a couple of acetate records only but I always buy them just because I'm curious to find music that nobody has heard in decades. Most of the acetates I got are classical or piano music and often in bad shape. The best thing I found so far (although it comes not even close to your finds) was a 4-track acetate EP which unfortunately was in pretty bad shape but I could at least rescue 2 of the 4 tracks. One is a instrumental, the other one is an (in my opinion) outstanding version of the Flatt & Scruggs classic "I'm Crying My Heart Out Over You" (I just love the harmony vocals). I never found out who recorded it, it's close to the Flatt & Scruggs version but somehow different...and I love it. Any idea where this came from? I made a UA-cam video years ago (songs starts at 1:53) but it never got any answer to my question. I spent quite some time to make a clean digital copy of it (which turned out quite nice compared to the video) and will send it you if you like to.

These things are so goddam hard to find. I've been to at least 100 op-shops and haven't even found one

I have an acetate of The Hollies " Don't Even Think About Changing". I'm simply a big Hollies fan, paid 25 dollars for it about 25 years ago. It's a fairly kick ass record.
