Grand Design makes a lot of great trailers. I've watched a lot of walkthroughs of their product. It's nice to finally be able to see them reviewed by the best in the industry. Keep up the great work Josh.
I really think this is the one for us. After college in 3 years or so this might be our full time traveling medical work home. The counter space is wow and maybe we can just move that sofa to the dinette area so we are able to sit in front of it and put the dinner table in the current sofa place. I love this thing
I have watched many reviewers of RV’s on the Tube……Josh, you are by far the best in the business. You tell the good and also the bad if it has bad points. Plus, you know your products! Keep it up.
Do NOT buy GD rv because they doesn’t care about their customers!!! Awful experience.Less than in a year we got roof problem (they doesn’t install membrane properly and this membrane thin and cheap)and GD denied to cover it even rv still under warranty. They treated us like a trash. Stay away from their trailers unless you can handle everything by yourself.
Thanks for the comprehensive tour. We just bought this model late in 2021, and it's in storage at the dealership until the spring. Ours was built in August 2021 and has the 12 cuft propane/AC fridge. I would have preferred the 12V version, but our build does not have the factory solar panel and charge controller. Our dealership will install the 160 watt solar panel, controller and the Winegard WiFi system. The dinette table has rather tight belly space for larger bodies. Good for the kids, but will need modification so I can be comfortable sitting there. The radius shower is also a bit tight. We needed the bunkhouse for the grand kids, and the huge counter area was an immediate hit with my wife. Aside from the few minuses it's a nice unit.
Kenneth, thanks for the comments. My wife and I are looking for a 5th wheel with bunking for grandkids, and this looks very much like it would work for us. I have a super duty 3/4 ton with a 6.7. I'm sure it could pull it but what about the weight at the pin? Also, Do you have any other thoughts about the functionality? Any other problems for "larger bodies"? or areas the kids did or did not like? Thanks again for your thoughts!
@@pasach11 Hi Pasach11, We haven't pulled the trailer or camped in it yet. We pick it up from the dealer in the spring. This is a mid-weight and sized 5th wheel. It's 34' 8" long and has a GVWR of 11,495 lbs. Pin weight when loaded would be about 1,700 lbs, more or less. Add this to your vehicle payload capacity to see if you're within the limits of your truck. I'll be using a one ton dually as my tow vehicle. The 3/4 ton trucks I looked at would be Ok, but at the upper limit for payload capacity. A single rear wheel one ton would be fine and have a good safety margin for payload capacity. Consider braking, squat, sway and towing stability. All factors for getting the one ton dually. We looked at dozens of regular trailers and 5th wheels, and this one has what we wanted. Not perfect, but I can change anything that is lacking. At 275 lbs the dinette is just not going to work for me. Fine for the kids and wife. Everything else including the small corner shower I can manage with. That private rear bunk was a big consideration. You should spend a few weeks shopping around.
I had to rewatch this after I found a modified one on RVTrader that turned the bunk room into a kids bedroom with a desk. It was so cool! My only floor plan change would be to put the hide a bed in the dinette area and add a fold up dining room table where the sofa is now. That way we are directly across from the tv and have a bed for our future child when the slide is closed. And the dinette table top would get out of the way when the slide closed and the chairs i would go to comfy folding ones
Like this unit. I like the bunks because it can be storage for couples and sleep people if some come out with you. Definitely prefer the theatre seat option
Finally viewed this same RV today in person. Well, after going to see a Jayco 29.5 BHDS…….this one is now king daddy for us. A few things we didn’t like but overall with the solid counter-tops and layout and all that counter space in the kitchen is a winner. The mattress is a nice comfortable Serta and the shelf above the bed is a nice add too. The one we looked at had a slide out griddle rather than burner. These are nice Fivers!
Reflection has been hugely popular in the market and continues to grow in their segment. I don’t see that changing any time soon with what I see here!!
@@JoshtheRVNerd Josh - you really are the best at doing these model reviews. What I appreciate the MOST is the safety info that you add. I don't think it's all dishonesty, I really do believe most (men) simply don't know. Please - keep up the good, honest work that you're doing. The RV industry needs more like you.
I looked at the other suggested trailers and the counter tops and storage of this one keep me coming back. Welp time to start saving. I’ve watched this video like 7 times. This might be my goal when I have the funds after college and this depreciates a bit lol
They recently renamed this one btw. It's now called the Reflection 298BH and is a member of their 150 series Didn't want you to go hunting for a 28BH and find out she's retired :)
I've made enough jokes about that plaid on the bednette backing - but with that said, I kind of like this one. I would miss the fireplace addition, but I do like this one. That rugrat rack room would be great for storage if you're a couple with no rugrats. Minor modification could make it a usable office space. Definitely needs the 2nd AC unit on this depending on your local for camping.
Haven't been able to get back to a GD store YET but basically at this point the people have spoken: They want all of the Grand Design RVs I can get them
The outlet about the bedroom slide is to give you access to 110 v power for like an alarm clock or small fan on the counter. A couple of people have mentioned that they would rather have theater seating... There is an optional theater seating couch available instead of the dinette.
What an awesome layout! We love the bunks for the kiddos and that kitchen looked amazing!! We love our 2021 Wolf Pup 17JGBL but storage has been a challenge. But this floor plan would definitely be one we would be very interested in! Like…hands down! Lol 😂. Would have to upgrade to a Super Duty though. So this kind of an upgrade is a long way into the future but it’s fun to see what we could shoot for someday! Thanks for the walkthrough! Excellent as always! 👍
Could that plug in the master bedroom could be used for a "make up" station or maybe a hair dryer? The way that's setup with the counter space, it feels like a spot to finish getting ready.
@@JoshtheRVNerd I don't have any personal experience with make up and my hair is pretty easy. But I thought about my wife and how long it takes to dry her hair. With a single bathroom and bunks for the kids, there could be a line wanting to use the bathroom. So, use the bathroom and then vacate the bathroom for the next person, and use that little counter space and plug to finish. At least our new-to-us camper has a bath and a half so we shouldn't have that line form!
Your right there are pro’s and con’s to this model. I would to see them make a model without a bunk room and instead put in a pantry area even though there are a lot of drawers and cupboards.
Rockwood/Flagstaff actually does that. Here's a slightly outdated video on it (Note: I didn't record this one. Another staff member filled in while I was gone so it may have a little different feel/tone): bit.ly/3CeufuS
I actually bought this unit in October and have spent all winter tearing things out and adding things. Dinette is gone, replaced with a 80 inch RecPro powered reclining couch. Now we have a place to watch tv. The bunkhouse shelves/ladder, gone. Now a closet for hanging clothes. My grand kids are big enough to get to the bunks without a ladder. Outside kitchen 2 burner cooktop, gone. Now we have more storage. The mini fridge stays for the moment. Added a bunch of things as well to included 3 more solar panels, which brings up a significant negative for folks that are not satisfied with the included solar. By using Furrion panels, GD is using solar panels with proprietary connectors, not MC4 connectors. Therefore the roof entry gland is also proprietary. All connectors and roof gland have to be changed out to add more panels. Overall I would have rather had just solar prep than getting proprietary panels to proprietary roof access to a 50 amp solar controller without out any included monitoring capabilities. The controller will eventually go as well. On the plus side the kids love the bunk room, and I am well pleased with the fit and finish and quality of build. Unfortunately it’s added significantly to the cost to get it where we are now ready to hit the road. Thanks to Josh for his practical review and comments, good and the not quite so good..
I’d really love to see a review of the imagine 2970RL and get your opinion of it. I hope I didn’t miss it if you done one already. Another great video. You do fantastic work good sir.
This is definitely a very different floor plan and as you said and not right for everyone. I appreciate the bunk room. It has good space and great storage as does in general most of the RV. Where I would knock this down a few points is kitchen storage in terms of the lack of a pantry that Grand Design always is typically shown Although maybe in this Reflection or any bunkhouse Reflections they don't offer that. You are correct that the counter space is fantastic and there are a decent amount of of cabinets. The dofa-sleeper is nice but this does not have much space in terms of a living room. I think there have been some other travel trailers you presented that seem to have more space or maybe it's just a better layout and use of the space. The bathroom is okay but as many people have commented not a big fan of radius showers but at least I will give them credit that they don't have a 12-in step up to get into it at least. The bedroom is very nice. Of course I love the residential queen size bed and the side stands are very nice. I personally can't speak to whether a CPAP would fit there but I would certainly hope so. Quite a bit of drawer and closet space in the bedroom which is very nice and much appreciated. One thing I'm not a fan of in Grand Design is the really dark cabinetry. It just seems to make the whole RV just dark and I don't know how many light fixtures it would take to really kind of brighten the space up. I just think all the woodwork being so dark just takes away so much and gives the unit a cave-like appearance to me. I am a fan of the quality of The Grand Design coaches. They build a very nice product and seem to be of higher quality/better service after the sale than several bof the other RV brands on the market. It is just more cosmetics for me with this one and some functionality points. Obviously would not be right for my situation as you could tell based on my comments but I think if you had a family with three or more kids and needed to be able to take them all on a nice vacation you could definitely do it in a coach like this. The on-demand hot water heater is a definite plus especially when you get into the larger sleeping capacity coaches where you may actually need to have four or five people taking a shower in succession so I appreciate seeing this offering. Thanks Josh!
👏 as always great video of the rig. Answering your in video question, I like the bunks, but would love the bottom to be a tip up, with a cargo door for bikes! Get rid of the outdoor kitchen. This is the first GD of this layout I’ve seen with the electric fireplace (deal breaker for my wife). Would be a 💯 win with dinette removed and theater seats!
Definitely want to. A sister store to my home base in southern michigan has them so hopefully I'll be able to make a trip up the street. I'm super backlogged right now, though
@@JoshtheRVNerd With the amount of content you push out, I have no doubt you have a huge backlog. Here's a free 2 cents worth- when the time comes, try to do a 365RL or 372BH, there are already reviews on the 325 (although not the same quality as yours).
Josh, to start thanks for putting this video together as well as others as it helped me decide on what to look at as well with my finish purchase. I did have a question as if you knew if Grand Design was going to release a 2023 model of the 28bh.
I love this model. For my use, I'd prefer to shorten the bed slide and not have it go into the bathroom. That would allow a larger shower for only a little lost storage. Also, is there space to put a free standing table and chairs where the couch sits and put a couch where the U-dinette is in the slide?
Regarding furniture.. The hide-a-bed has no swaptions You can get a theater instead of the dinette (i think.. man it's been a bit since I reviewed this..) I don't see why table/chairs WOULDN'T be available there...
@@JoshtheRVNerd Yes, that's correct. I really don't see much advantage having a door between the bedroom & bathroom versus the trade offs of having. Even after "aggressively folding laundry" the regular bathroom door is close enough to minimize the walk of shame.
I don't like having the speakers low on the outside. I don't want the music or sound to 'blow anyone away' but I particularly want to be able to hear my friends and family more than the music. Putting them high on the wall makes for a friendlier campsite. I would love to see a version of this with no bunks (for use as an office) and the radius shower is just a deal breaker for me. The front bedroom is quite nice and feels more residential than most.
Great video! I really like the product Grand Design puts out, just wish they would adopt a modern farmhouse interior layout as an alternative like Jayco and others are doing. I know you get asked this all the time about tow vehicles, but do you think this could fall into the realm of 3/4 ton gas towable?
I really do like how jayco gives you two very distinct decor choices. Sometimes you just need to see something different And yes -- I think many 3/4 Gassers will handle this one nicely
Great family rig, I'd like to see the dinnete and the sofa flipped, however to achieve that you'd either have to shorten the slide or make the entire rig longer. Then you've got the issue of people crossing the sofa to get to the dinnete. Hrm...🤔
I have a 2018 Ford F250 shortbed with the 6.2 gas and it pulls this camper well. I use a manual slider hitch here and do recommend having the slider hitch. One of those things that when you need it you have it. But doing the math on the weights with cargo is the safest bet to determine truck to trailer weights.
I have done a video on that one here actually: bit.ly/3G8qIi8 I haven't really thought about a lot of direct comparisons between them Reflection carries a proven temp rating, but Rockwood has the W/D Prep Reflection has the Giant Fridge, but Rockwood has a little better factory solar package + inverter Reflection has a Towing Hitch instead of just Accessory Rated, but Rockwood has the bigger, better vent fans w/covers They both do the base unit well with really similar/comparable features. It really boils down to some person preferences I think
@@mikeritchie2189 thank you Mike! If they’ve been helpful then I would really appreciate it if you dropped me name in a quick review at www.bishs.com/review-us-coldwater-mi/
There's this "thing" in the industry where the more budget friendly brands tend to be bunk focused (ie arctic wolf, heritage glen, hemisphere) while the "upscale stuff" focuses more on couple's models. I don't know why exactly. It just is.
The TV in the bunk room would probably be hooked up to a game console. That being said, where the TV mount in the bunk room should accommodate child through adult sized teen playing. So the bottom bunk should be a couch with an area for TV across. Otherwise nice unit.
I forgot to ask you do they make the same camper with just a queen bed in the back that would be so amazing then we'd be able to take our kids while our son camping with our daughter-in-law and their newborn baby that's what I'm looking for is a camper was a little room in the back and a room for us in the front
At this time I don't believe they make that arrangement, though I've seen some people take something like this one bit.ly/3jH19wd & remove the top bunk to create a 2nd bedroom
Why would GD not use a chrome stove as do other models in unison with the rest of the appliances? I have noticed lately some Grand Designs cheapen their units by using the very same black stove I had in my Heartland way back in 2019. Disappointing.
Why is everyone showing bunk house trailers? I see them and move on as not everyone has or wants kids in the rv! seems like that's what sells but not to me or others. Something like a good couples rig, campside windows in the 30 foot range
lol last week I got a flood of comments asking why I don't show fifth wheels or bunkhouses. Now this. I cannot speak for everyone else. I can only say that I provide a mixture of whatever I can get my hands on. I'm not picking and choosing over here.
Love the counter space but the "living area" isn't good. I never like pedestal tables. There are just too many better options out there. Big bunks but that costs you a lot of living area for such a long unit. I guess there are big families that want big 5th wheels? I'm not a huge fan of radius showers but I only spend 5 minutes a day in the shower. I agree that the cabinet above the toilet is almost a deal breaker. I like most of the bedroom area. Grand design has a lot of floorplans I like better than this one.
Grand Design makes a lot of great trailers. I've watched a lot of walkthroughs of their product. It's nice to finally be able to see them reviewed by the best in the industry. Keep up the great work Josh.
Wow.. high praise. Thank you, Jimbo :)
The campside windows over that counter space is genius. Finally!
I think details like that are big reasons why GD's version of this outshines most others
yes, would like to see a “no bunk house” version, …and theater seating across from the tv 😏
I want to see something like this with a murphy bed / DESK combo in the back. Holy cow that'd be multi-functional

Although maybe in this Reflection or any bunkhouse Reflections they don't offer that.
Thank YOU Rosemary!
Wow beautiful 🥰
Thanks but what about the RV? lol :)
That double sofa setup + a floating table or two is likely how I'd want it as well
I always enjoy your reviews. Any chance you will be reviewing an East to West Ahara anytime soon?
Definitely want to. A sister store to my home base in southern michigan has them so hopefully I'll be able to make a trip up the street. I'm super backlogged right now, though
@@JoshtheRVNerd With the amount of content you push out, I have no doubt you have a huge backlog. Here's a free 2 cents worth- when the time comes, try to do a 365RL or 372BH, there are already reviews on the 325 (although not the same quality as yours).
@josh - great review! Would love to see you walk through a 2910 bunkhouse
Roger. Will keep an eye out for one. I think I'm visiting a GD-carrying sister store at the end of this month
Do you have these in stock? Just did a walk through on one last week but heard amazing things about your dealership
A Cpap will fit there on that area! Need light under head cabinets. Like all you light request.
TY Cindy! Factories tend to listen more when actual consumers do the talking :)
@@JoshtheRVNerd Thank I enjoy it now in our time of life we can't camp anymore!
Josh, to start thanks for putting this video together as well as others as it helped me decide on what to look at as well with my finish purchase. I did have a question as if you knew if Grand Design was going to release a 2023 model of the 28bh.
It was just renamed and moved from their 150 series to full reflection. Called a 298bh or something like that
It was never retired. Just moved
Can you get this camper with the couch where u shape dinette is and a table with chairs where two seater couch is?
The hide-a-bed cannot be swapped from the factory. But I believe you CAN swaption the dinette for a theater.
The outlets in the bedroom should be in better locations. I would want some type of theater seat. However, it is a nice unit.
Corner showers are fine as long as they have a in glass enclosure and not a shower curtain.
I love this model. For my use, I'd prefer to shorten the bed slide and not have it go into the bathroom. That would allow a larger shower for only a little lost storage. Also, is there space to put a free standing table and chairs where the couch sits and put a couch where the U-dinette is in the slide?
1-door bath + rectangle shower + cabinet in bath basically?
Then smaller dedicated storage slide in bedroom?
Regarding furniture..
The hide-a-bed has no swaptions
You can get a theater instead of the dinette (i think.. man it's been a bit since I reviewed this..)
I don't see why table/chairs WOULDN'T be available there...
@@JoshtheRVNerd Yes, that's correct. I really don't see much advantage having a door between the bedroom & bathroom versus the trade offs of having. Even after "aggressively folding laundry" the regular bathroom door is close enough to minimize the walk of shame.
Anything else around this size with huge counter space like this?
Maybe try this one? ua-cam.com/video/noBuF9Gd_J4/v-deo.html
I would like it without the bunks
Maybe a guest bedroom
Tell you what I'd like to see... a convertible murphy/DESK back there. Office OR guest room?
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
I don't like having the speakers low on the outside. I don't want the music or sound to 'blow anyone away' but I particularly want to be able to hear my friends and family more than the music. Putting them high on the wall makes for a friendlier campsite.
I would love to see a version of this with no bunks (for use as an office) and the radius shower is just a deal breaker for me. The front bedroom is quite nice and feels more residential than most.
Rockwood makes one called the 2622RK (or there's the flagstaff clone of that) which is basically exactly what you're curious about!
Sometimes you just need to see something different
And yes -- I think many 3/4 Gassers will handle this one nicely
Great family rig, I'd like to see the dinnete and the sofa flipped, however to achieve that you'd either have to shorten the slide or make the entire rig longer. Then you've got the issue of people crossing the sofa to get to the dinnete. Hrm...🤔
yeah that 90 degree seating pairing makes it tricky
Would you recommend a slider hitch to pull this with a 2019 Ram 2500 short 6' 4" bed?
I would have to see how they match up. Generally speaking you would be okay unless you wanted to push beyond an 85 degree turn
Thinking about getting this I know we can find a deal because it’s old
How would you compare this to the same model to the rockwood or flagstaff?
I have done a video on that one here actually: bit.ly/3G8qIi8
I haven't really thought about a lot of direct comparisons between them
Reflection carries a proven temp rating, but Rockwood has the W/D Prep
Reflection has the Giant Fridge, but Rockwood has a little better factory solar package + inverter
Reflection has a Towing Hitch instead of just Accessory Rated, but Rockwood has the bigger, better vent fans w/covers
They both do the base unit well with really similar/comparable features. It really boils down to some person preferences I think
Awesome. To bad your not in California I’d buy from you. Love the videos.
@@mikeritchie2189 thank you Mike! If they’ve been helpful then I would really appreciate it if you dropped me name in a quick review at www.bishs.com/review-us-coldwater-mi/
Dont see that many BH fifth wheelers. Nice layout and under 30 feet.!
There's this "thing" in the industry where the more budget friendly brands tend to be bunk focused (ie arctic wolf, heritage glen, hemisphere) while the "upscale stuff" focuses more on couple's models.
I don't know why exactly. It just is.
I would deal with that, how long do you sit on the toilet.
Well.. some days longer than others lol
Would love to see your review of the updated 2024 version of this trailer 298bhs. You know, because your schedule isn’t already packed full 😂
lol I appreciate the request. I’ll see what I can do
Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
I agree no bunks for those without kids young enough to use the bunks there just are not enough 4 to 6 sleepers
The TV in the bunk room would probably be hooked up to a game console. That being said, where the TV mount in the bunk room should accommodate child through adult sized teen playing. So the bottom bunk should be a couch with an area for TV across. Otherwise nice unit.
Josh, do you see them bringing back the true quad bunks? We've been extremely disappointed in what's out there for 4 kids in an actual bunkhouse.
yeah I really don't know. I know eagle tried and tried for the longest time but I never really saw it take off
I forgot to ask you do they make the same camper with just a queen bed in the back that would be so amazing then we'd be able to take our kids while our son camping with our daughter-in-law and their newborn baby that's what I'm looking for is a camper was a little room in the back and a room for us in the front
At this time I don't believe they make that arrangement, though I've seen some people take something like this one bit.ly/3jH19wd & remove the top bunk to create a 2nd bedroom
The outside kitchen is kinda sad for the price. How about a Heritage Glen bunkhouse trailer?
Here's a BIG heritage glen bunk model for you! bit.ly/3s8D6uI
Why would GD not use a chrome stove as do other models in unison with the rest of the appliances? I have noticed lately some Grand Designs cheapen their units by using the very same black stove I had in my Heartland way back in 2019. Disappointing.
Nice unit - would have eliminated the bedroom/bath entrance to make a larger rectangular shower... definitely NOT 1/2 ton towable...
I think I'd do the same for the bathroom given the choice. I used to really prefer 2-door bathrooms but over the years I've swayed the other way
What is this “ Toliet” ? Is it similar to a toilet? Maybe a special camper thing? Lol!
It's for Romeo.. his Toliet lol :)
Other than the outdated pedestal table and carpet, the radius shower and the lack of theater seating, this is an awesome bunkhouse trailer👍
There is an optional theater seat that can replace the dinette. We bought ours with that option.
@@joshkrisher5862 That is awesome👍
I'd definitely go theater seat / double dinofa
Why is everyone showing bunk house trailers? I see them and move on as not everyone has or wants kids in the rv!
seems like that's what sells but not to me or others. Something like a good couples rig, campside windows in the 30 foot range
lol last week I got a flood of comments asking why I don't show fifth wheels or bunkhouses. Now this.
I cannot speak for everyone else. I can only say that I provide a mixture of whatever I can get my hands on. I'm not picking and choosing over here.
No pantry? I'd like a theater seat where the dinette is. Not too impressed with this one overall.
Fair enough. Thx for watching all the same Mark! :)
Rockwood/Flagstaff have a nice version of this.
Never mind. You said that.
I never mind an extra set of eyes like this! TY Sir :)
Josh can they change those windows to clear glass instead of green. Those green windows are awful.
Windows aren't green. You're seeing the reflection of that hideous wall
Residential stove would make it better
Replace bunks with office area.
It concerns me that our society has gotten to the point we have to put that sign on the toilet
You and me both buddy
Comment dropped lol
good enough I guess. Ty :)
Don’t like the carpet
Pretty darn cool
Thx :)
