Used to do ridiculous mileage for work a few years ago 40k+ a year. Had many cars bmws, audis, seat. They always had issues and servicing was a rip off. Bought a 508sw on 100k miles, took it to 238k and was bullet proof, seats like arm chairs and ate up motorways. Couldn't recommend them enough and It changed my mind of French cars completely.

I just got one last week. After doing. 300 miles in 2 days, it developed 4 electrical faults. Repairs would have cost close to 2 000£. I just took it back to the dealer, they said they might have to scrap it. Someone I know bought a 2015 3008. Which needed automatic transmission repair 2 times in the span of 3 months. In my case they did live up to their reputation of being electrical nightmares.

I feel that most french cars, especially sedans and suvs are generally very comfortable cars. I get why people buy them. And i’ve got a Renault myself, that i’m very pleased with. Easy to drive, comfortable seats, economical and decent power when needed.

There is 2 automatic transmission, one is lassis AISIN automatic from Japan, and the other one is some kind robotized trash that falls apart. Always choose classic AISIN transmission, verry good.

Dad's first diesel company car was a 405 GLD saloon in 92.
Three and a half years later when it came to renew his company car he opted to keep it, spent another 10 years in the family - very comfortable seats, tons of room in the back seat (like a bench that could seat 4 no bother) boot space for a saloon was quite generous.
Seats didn't really look like much, made from tweed but incredibly comfortable.
It's like what Jeremy Clarkson once said about Peugeot in a special episode of Top Gear dedicated to the history of Peugeot that when this French car maker (the oldest in existence) decides to do something they usually do it VERY, VERY, WELL.
And since about 2019 they have really raised their standards once again.

My dad had a similar age non RXH version of this and he loved it to bits, did silly miles in it and had it for a few years with only the heated seats failing. He loved it so much that when a Passat went flying into the side of it on a roundabout writing it off, he instantly went out and bought another one and loved that one the same!

I purchased a 2015 308sw a year ago with 108k miles. It's probably the best car I've ever had. Never thought of buying a Peugeot, but I test drove it and was impressed. No tax to pay, massive load space, quality feel, and the small steering wheel design is excellent as you can always see all the instruments. The only design fault the car has is that it says Peugeot on the front! Buy one, look after it and you'll love it.

Interesting car. I have always had a soft spot for Peugeot's. I used to drive a TD 405 for work back in the 90s and it was an amazing car. Fast (for the time), very comfortable and amazing to drive for a diesel estate car. I'd love to give one of these a go. Looks great imo.

I had one of these for three years. It tackled the beast from the east snow storm with ease. It did start to suffer electrical gremlins such as parking sensors and directional headlights which incidentally work from the rear suspension! Thankfully all covered on warranty. Drives lovely and in sport mode it achieves 0-60 in about 8.5 seconds. Not rapid I know, but brings in the electric motor meaning you cannot feel the gear changes as you are constantly being pushed forward. Would definitely buy one again.

This is a vehicle that appealed to me some time ago in the brown metallic colour. I reckon many an RXH was first registered to Peugeot UK for management to run around in. You would need to be a brave private buyer to get one new. I am sure that luggage space is more like 500 litres. It's pretty capacious. Cool car. Different and a little bit country squire distinguished like a Subaru Outback. Enjoyed the video. Thank you for reminding me of this car.

We don't get Peugeots in the USA anymore which is too bad because their designs are singularly unique. Love the glass roof and how clean the dash is, almost void of controls. Especially like the real analog gauge cluster.

  • @palandi
    @palandi 3 роки тому +2

Thanks for another video of a car I was curious about, Matt.
Had Peugeot built a RXH version of the second-gen 508, it would be amazing: all the things you mentioned, plus frameless windows, an 8-speed fully automatic gearbox and a sleeker design. I was curious to know your thoughts about the infamous EGS semi-auto, and it matches what I read at French forums: Peugeot calibrated it better in the 508 than in the 3008 and the DS5.
However, I think I would take an Insignia Country Tourer, which is as rare as this RXH, commands similar prices (way less than a Passat Alltrack or an Octavia Scout), has a regular auto box and probably has a slightly better reliability track. Maybe you should feature the Country Tourer in your next video?

  • @adrianclark149
    @adrianclark149 3 роки тому

That's a great shout for something a bit different, Matt. I was obliged to have a company car for quite a few years and had a 508SW when it first came out, as the car scheme was a bit stingy. My kids, who were young at the time, thought the panoramic roof was mega and it was a big reason why I chose the car. I did a squilion miles in it over 4 years and, like you, was pleasantly surprised by the quality of it, having also had all kinds of German stuff too. The 508 swallowed a family, bikes and holiday stuff no bother. I also liked having something that reminded me of my 205 and 309 GTIs, even if it was just the badge!
I'd get one of these 2nd hand if I had loads of miles to do at the drop of a hat, as long as I could find a black one. The RXH is a decent looking car for a good price.

Just put a set of michelin cross climate tyres on I live on the edge of Dartmoor and we have had a lot of ice and one day of snow (2 inches) and it's been so sure footed I'm quietly amazed. And being able to drive up to the moors in the snow and have some fun and take my dog for a walk in virgin snow. Mine looked identical to this inside and out with all the same bits including the roof. Tyre pressure recommended was so hard the ride was terrible. I’m like 50/50 on these cars. Hi guys.
Im the happy owner of such car .
508RXH Hybrid4 , exactly same colour like the one in the video.
I must say is a very impressive car , lovely to drive , and very very reliable .
Before i used to drive bmw , audi , mercedes , vw ..all kind of cars , and everytime they were asking for money .
Now , owning this peugeot , i quite feel strange , not needing to spend money with it so often :)
Things that can go wrong on this car :
Rear reductor (kind of a differential) - cheap to repair , expensive to replace new
Auxiliary belt needs changing every 40k miles , and must be done only at Peugeot dealership . They have a special tool to get the belt as tight as it needs , avoiding to snap of jump -313£ with pulley
Driveshafts are hard to find in uk . Had to order mine from Germany for 140£ . Peugeot asked for 550£+VTA
Cambelt needs to be done at peugeot dealership , as it needs auxiliary belt to be removed and refitted , also special tool that i was talking about
Nothing to worry about hybrid battery , as when it will fail , you just have to change the elements , not whole battery . Usually it fails on 3 or 4 elements . About 30£ each element
Clutch on this EGC gearbox is quite expensive . Recommend to be done with peugeot specialist , as it needs few steps with lexia diagnose to be completed by competent garage .
My RXH has original clutch at 187k miles , and no sign of failing
Suspension is a bit harsh over potholes and bad roads . Because of it's extra weight , they fitted a hard suspension . For example if i press myself on the sides of the car , there is no balance . Nothing . Is very stiff

Filled up at home on the Welsh border, then once more near Bordeaux, and got to Alicante with 100 miles left in the tank. Has been very reliable and all the toys work. Never thought I'd see one of these on the channel. I didn't know they existed until I foolishly raced one from a roll in my old GS430, the sluggish kickdown of my auto gearbox meant the bloody 508 RXH got the jump and gave me a bit of a shock. Eventually got past but it took a lot longer than it ought to have done and we were going a bit quick by that point...!

Regarding the need to pull the lever to go into reverse: While odd for an automatic, my 1967 Triumph TR4A required the lever to be pulled out also. Not a bad thing, really. My high school girlfriend's parents owned an MG and a Peugeot. It was remarkably easy to downshift into reverse if you weren't careful.

Think this phase of Peugeot (or PSA) cars were the Germanic phase where they really tried to nail on quality but lost a bit of the Gallic flair... think best blend of this approach would have been the 2nd Gen Citroën C5 with the hydropneumatic suspension (the UK ads at the time really played on that) - try and get one of those Matt and keep up the good work! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Just had a quick glance at Reezocar and was surprised at what good value this car seems to be. I did note that it received a face lift in mid 2014, new (Ford style)grill and a revised gear selector . Prices seem to start at around €6k but that one had only 128000km on the clock upto €36k for just 5000km. So for a budget of £16K will get a face lift model with about 60k to 80k km's on the clock. Why am I looking at LHD cars, I now have a son in Spain and I hate flying!

Some modern PSA group Turbodiesels (Ad Blue versions) had trouble with the urea injectors in the Ad Blue tank. Here in Spain there are thousands of unaddressed customer complaints. Ad Blue is used to reduce emissions.

I was curious to watch this one as I had one for a short time (although not the hybrid). Think what you described the car very fairly. Just picked this review up want to add my tuppence worth. I ran the even rarer Citreon DS5 Hybrid4 'brother / sister'. First off; it was the most comfortable car I ever owned. PSA really threw the kit at it. Apart from absence of Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control it had everything (car was actually a 2013 model) with heated, massaging and memory seats. The battery was whisper quiet as you say around town - pedestrians often did not hear me. Road tax was less than my wife's C1. 200bhp in Sport mode terrific fun for a wide quite heavy car. However you'll be lucky to get more than 45mpg despite PSA claiming 70+ and tyres are REALLY expensive if they're low profiles. 4WD handy for where we live too.

Ay up Matt. Russ from hillam North Yorkshire. I've had mine for 9years now.its a 2012 model and It's been the best car I've ever owned. Cat tax is £10 a year. I get 250 to nearly 300 miles to a quarter tank. Depending on traffic being around town. And on long journeys you can get up to 800 miles a tank. And if you use the car to brake. That way you charge the battery. I'm still on the original brakes still. It's just that Peugeot brought it out about 10 years to early. Cause there's no car out there to replace it. Russ
