When i listened to pink floyd in the 70's my father would either tell me to stop playing it or calling it rubbish all the while. Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast IS a perfect example of how Pink Floyd stood head and shoulders (and yes I know washing your hair comes AFTER breakfast) above most 'prog rock' bands. The Floyd had substance not just egotistical songs created to out do the others. Pink Floyd shows us the beauty of the simple things in life. In that sense, they inherited a musical vision of the world from Syd. The last few minutes are both a grand and simplistic JOY of life. You can get 'high' with Pink Floyd off the magic of LIFE and MUSIC. So, enjoy your breakfast because the day is beautiful and the world is ALL YOUR'S. And, there's a happy ending waiting for you.
I agree with you@@Cap683. It's like the Doors or Jefferson Airplane being called Psychedelic or The Band being called 'Dylans backing group. All of these may be truthful to a point but also missing the bigger picture of the group's musical history, influences and what they created together. David
Exactly. That’s the thing that sets them apart. They were so incredibly relatable when all other prog bands were off in huge vast worlds with complex, mythological stories (not that there’s anything wrong with that). But Pink Floyd were more about what it’s like to be a human and were more grounded in their approach.
I LOVE your reply@@radioguy1667. I enjoy getting replies from people who are on the same wave length or can expand on what I said. Like what Pink Floyd intended with their music. There's nothing wrong with fantasy or epic visions of our and other words - but, it a way it kind of disconnects with the audience (but each are special too). I suppose Pink Floyd were the musical version of sitting down, listening to music and writing down how your felt in a journal? (which I do every day). Whether you're sitting in an English garden, a French flat or a African valley riding on your bike listening to Pink Floyd - it's universal language (as is music itself). Their music is deep but always a song which every listener makes their own. And there is no WALL between any of us with Pink Floyd. Peace and much love, David
