After I had my gal bladder removed, I was having some minor issues with digestion. I stared having a Greek yogurt each day with live cultures and this seemed to help me feel better. Not sure if I would have felt better with time anyway, but the extra protein doesn't hurt and I enjoy them. With all the crazing stuff going on right now, you positive attitude and pretty smile are most welcome.

If you are going to take probiotic supplements here are some things you should look for. Contain Soil-Based Probiotics and Be Shelf-Stable: Make sure your probiotic supplement has soil-based probiotics and is shelf-stable, meaning it doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Ideally you want your probiotic to have a shelf-life of 2 years. Also, High CFU Strain Diversity, Survivability, also remember look for a stable probiotic that you do not need to refrigerate. The ones we used to buy. that always need to be refrigerated are very weak and die very easy. Just to add to what precious Dr. Sam Said.

You forgot to mention kefir. Kefir has really taken off in a big way in the UK having been introduced by many in the Polish community. Kefir is a drink of fermented grains, tastes like a very mild natural yogurt. You can also get this fermented with cows milk and flavoured like a yogurt. The real reason why you should include it as part of your diet is it has lots of good gut bacteria which is necessary for your gut to function properly. It's also recommended to patients under going strong treatments that interfere with the gut, in order to maintain a healthy system. If you get the plain kefir you can flavour it with honey, jam and / or fruit to taste. I certainly use it regularly on my porridge

Probiotics are good the problem is getting them into your gut. It's better to try and feed your existing micro biome than adding more outside bacteria to it. 60 Minutes in America a couple of weeks ago did a segment on Probiotics. The conclusions are; there are no studies that can confirm that the introduction outside Probiotics actually reach your gut. Please watch the show and judge for yourself.

Hi. Thank you so much for your videos. I have read contradictory information on when the best time to take probiotics. On an empty stomach, or not. What would you advise? Take care.

Hey Carla, great question! You will find loads of different opinions on this, I'm not confident I'm 100% correct - but this is my thinking anyway 😬: I like to take them with food in the morning. 1. So I remember, and 2. They are micro-organisms and I feel a little sugar helps them on their way! But at the end of the day it probably doesn't matter too much, as long as you remember to take them 😉

Dr. Sam, the stomach has high acidity and a ph of 1_2, can the bacteria in the probiotic survive this acidic environment before their journey to the intestines where they are useful. Please enlighten me.

I disagree with some of the things you stated ... but I hope people can prove more evidence to show benefits.

Do probiotics and antibiotics cancel each other out? What about prebiotics? I am referring to kombucha and kifir.
