Pure Joy! 🌹 The beginning of the book of Genesis is my favorite part of scriptures. His explanation of the initial setting corresponds to the possibility of a 'gap' preceding the entire re-ordering of the earth. 😊
Finally 🙌🏻 Someone who has taken us to a place to where, “Evidence that demands a verdict” in our thinking. Dr. Tabor~takes us to the “truth of the matter” with the “knowledgeable facts” meaning he has looked, studied and without bias gone to the earliest transcripts. I love that he mentioned in his previous videos~that “he wanted to go, not to the traditional places in Isreal” but, to the actual places. That, basically it was possible! And, now in this video with the reading of the Hebrew Bible in English but, it being written and expressed in true Hebrew! I’m in! You have my complete attention…The freedom that this provides in the Christian walk is beyond belief. This puts a realism as to who, what and where. Archaeologically, historically and evidential. Not, mystically and spiritualism as (I believe) is taught in our Western culture….pure and unadulterated!!! Thank you~Dr. Tabor for your years of study, teaching, travel and research…
I absolutely love, long, in-depth videos. I enjoy listening to them as I do my daily work and chores around the house. Plus, the longer and more in depth of more I have to chew on. Keep it up!
@21:30 God walks in the garden anthropomorphizes the leading Deity. I can see how this minute textural change can change the entire picture. God flowing, traveling or moving through the garden seems more consonant with the Divine properties and consistent with later Divine encounters as reported through Scriptures.

I've always heard Genesis 1 as a song sung to a group by firelight. The audience would even chime in at specific places. e.g. Singer 'And God said, "Let there be light,”' audience: 'and there was light.'
I got it a while back along with some of his other books, including and especially Paul's Ascent which is worldview changing and "suspicion-confirming", at least for me. His Genesis is SO different, in a good and interesting way, from all that we have in the NRSV, which I've used for years, and I'm sure is different from all the others. It's got 900+ footnotes. Hi, I am so glad you did this interview. Thank you. Dave, might I suggest that you do NOT interrupt him or even say "yeah" or "right" after every three words he says. The reason why is when you speak over him then not only do we not hear you, we also do not hear him. This means that there is a lot of wasted time where we hear two voices for probably one quarter or one third of the interview and all that time is LOST and wasted space. Additionally, it distracts from the flow and the listener has to restart applying their listening skills which takes even MORE time and distracts from the depth required to understand this deep information. PLEASE consider your listeners rather than servicing your personal needs and your channel will be more attractive. Thank you. 🙏🙏🙏
I have been using the TEB in an Episcopal Bible study group in parallel with the NRSV since April 2022-also using Friedman for sources. The group seems to be really enjoying the experience. Dr. Tabor, I hope you release Exodus by the time we complete Genesis sometime this year. Otherwise, it will be a big letdown. 😐
you are SO right about how the lord walked into the garden. it was during the "breezy" part of the day. the wind flows with the breeze. moses is building a foundation for the lord that he saw in horeb. he comes on the wind
just a reminder; the Masoretic Hebrew was composed between 6-th and 10-th century AD,a very long, long time after the originals vere written without vowels,
Appears your showing more of what the relationship may have been like between Adam and the LORD. Kinda helps explain why G-d actually had put so much enmity between them, Adam and Eve when they walked out of his Garden. I can only imagine how much loss as well as resentment may have formed between them. I don’t know, but it does look like we are again walking there same paths. It is amazing. Quick question, are you going to sell your book in Audible? It would be cool to hear how you actually feel when you read your interpretation of this book.
The book of genesis is a book about beginnings. I think all 5 books of Moses are combined under the title. And it's is highly significant that the first word is not only the subject and title, it is also the word Jacob used to describe his first begotten son. The subject of the Bible is not Reuben, but some say the entire book is about God's only begotten son. I believe it is also about a multi-portioned (hebrew) faith and the beginnings in each part if the journey.
There's also the concept of humans being given the understanding to name all things. Maybe the god of the Hebrew Bible is telling Moses: 'You don't have enough understanding to name me.'
Love your videos! Wonderful scholarship providing an historical context to the faith. I,ve always been suspicious of translations since languages have historical and cultural nuances . I do have one minor comment on this video. Gravity is not a force, it is a field. For more info see the UA-cam by Sabine Hossenfelder (love her videos, too) entitled “is Gravity a Force? Hope your followers see the video to increase their physics knowledge.
1:17:00 Originally mankind was not to grasp and consume knowledge of good and bad. Since the disobedience of HaAdam and Eva, their offspring would be born with the ability to eventually decide what is good and bad for themselves. The original design was obediance. After consuming the produce of the forbidden, each human decides what is good and bad for themselves. Everyone can go their own way. That is what is meant by being lost.
The A. Conan Doyle standard is that the explanation has to account for *all* of the evidence. The only explanation that I'm aware of that meets that standard is David N. Talbott's.
Dr. Tabor: There is a lot of confusion on where The Bible stands, whether it is the Hebrew Bible, or the New testament on suicide. I would really appreciate you doing a presentation on this taboo topic.
I have long wanted to see a translation that said 'ELOHIM' and 'YHWH' in stead of "God" and other things. This looks like it will be very satisfying. And just seems so much more interesting than what Jordan Blather Peterson claims.
Saint David’s Anglican church 1858 for Simpson northwest territories, Canada, like all the great churches this one is the oldest in the area. Every new church has disciples 12
The lives of Sarah? Could this be about the generations of Sarah? Generations can refer to our beginnings in each portion of faith. Sarah's name was changed as was Abraham's.
Regarding “flowing” vs “walking” in the Adam and Eve example, could the original mean God is “flowing” like an ethereal spirit rather than “walking” as a human-like person?
So when Jesus said that we must become like children to enter the kingdom of heaven was he referring to our state of consciousness before we ate the forbidden fruit
Gratitude for clearing up the age old misconception around the idea of woman being created to be a mans " help meet " . This is widely misunderstood and results in women's role being reduced to a male servant. This was a massive stumbling block for me .Your translation of the Hebrew "cogig do " which actually means: the thing corresponding to him opposite" ".You further clarified that 'Meet ' in old English refered to a fitting .As described the help meet is better understood as a metaphor for ( procreation)lock and key or thrust and receptacle. In otherwords man and woman are created equal and that together reflect the different natures of the creator .
Isn't "in the beginning" the title and subject of the whole of the Penteteuch? Maybe I said this before? The algorithm brought me back here this morning. I feel like this is the Lord. Jacob will express HIS beginning with this same word. He might have lifted Reuben for others to see the new baby and announced, this is our "berasheet!" I would expect someone to translate ברושית as Πρωτον. THE Proton, rather than the beginning. I don't know Hebrew, but I have the ear to hear (or HAD, I guess It's still with me, although I haven't used it for a long time.Although this is pronounced with a long "u" like Ruth, I see "rose." This is the FACE of God. I'm sure rose means face in some laguage. Rose is the beginning of the day, because rose is the color of the sky. Rose is also the end of the day. The first is the same as the last. The Bible is a book about the beginning of all things, the person and his creation. And I want to bring up the Proton Psalm because of how it begins. Depending on where you pause in the word "lamasa" it can mean 'Why," or it can question the meaning or use of a word. Is it "ινατι" or is this "ίνα τι?" Have you ever questioned this? Does David foresee the crucifixion and the question of whether "my God" set his son down and walked on him as an infant* UNDER his feet. Or was he set ASIDE momentarily to provide salvation for us. Lamasa: παραλείπει. (Ίνα τι) καταλείπεν or should it have been παραλειπεν. Was Father God the ultimate good Samaritan in fulfilling the royal command to love your neighbor (your neighbor's children) as your own--to set aside the physical life if his son for the greater need which was the eternal life of the neighbor's son.. Ινστι? Or Ίνα τι? (* I've wondered about the day when the enemy went into the temple to loot it. Mothers came from the places where they were shut in with nursing babies. They set their babies aside for the sanctity of the Holy of holies and the most holy place. I wondered about how this was recorded. Maybe you've wondered, too?) I want to watch the crucifixion scene in movies.. I think I would have been at the cross. But I can't bring myself to watch plays or movies of the crucifixion. Not ever.. it isn't entertainment.. After the tragedy and the trauma, their is the beautiful realization. Our Father set aside his son for the need of the neighbor's son. There is no greater love. People have debated whether Jesus was God or man. If they need to ask that question, I think they need to start again. I repeat the obvious, but God has 4 manifestations we normally think of: Son, Father, Holy Spirit AND the rare presence of the Most High God who is the unity of the 3. But there is also מאת when the father is with the son as God with us. The Father and the Holy Spirit were both present at the conception of the Son. The Holy Spirit came upon her and a child was conceived. He is made of biological material and is as much "man" as any other member of mankind. He is also God. I don't need to untangle the trinity; I just know. Jesus was present with me one day as the voice behind me, assuring me with an assurance I didn't even know I would shortly need. That is a man's voice (understatement) and your eardrum vibrates with the sound. God/Jesus speaks with whatever language and accent we use. He sounds like the 33 year old man znd I'd say his voice is a strong baritone. I've heard the voice of many waters which is incredibly beautiful. I think it was the 7 spirits. And, of course, the still small voice, the breath of God Almighty. I think all the sons of God hear the still small voice, but probably more often than me. You don't tell people because they wouldn't believe you anyway. The visions had to be told. If it were the answer someone wanted, they wouldn't have needed the help. The two times the spirit entered my house, it was very frightening. I'm don't mean to say I was afraid of God. I don't know if I could ever get used to the presence of God.
Psalm 82 is a brilliant pun, almost untranslatable. The psalmist Asaph plays on the ambiguity of the word _elohim_ so you never on first reading know whether he means God, or gods, or judges, until you’ve read past it to the end of the phrase.
We can't talk about the role of Holy Spirit in the God who creates mankind in his image. The woman is Solomon's love song. Wisdom, I suppose, usually portrayed as the woman. She has skin that equates with the covering of the tabernacle. It darkens in the sunlight, I think. But we dare not admit that any likeness of God as female. David had a secret garden where he meditated and some secret passage into the temple? One question I can't answer. Why did Jesus wait until Jairus' daughter was fully 12 years old before going to her. I know it was her birthday. Did she need to be 12 before she could decided to believe? And if this is so, does everyone get a last offer to accept faith?
I'd agree with you that people do all the good and evil things, but they claim the morality and lessonsfrom the faith are the reasons that they choose to do those actions. As such, my argument is that the morality taught by the sect that they follow leads to the actions and thus that faith holds some responsibility for the actions that occurred.
I just downloaded the book and look forward to studying it. I find your treatment of Gen. 1 & 2 very helpful. Dr. John Walton has a similar conclusion in his lecture "Reading Genesis with Ancient Eyes" ua-cam.com/video/ci-6ekUmQFE/v-deo.html
In the beginning was Tao, The Tao became two, yin/Yang, the two became three, taiji, and the three became the ten thousand things. Simple enough ☯️☯️☯️
Interesting and educational video but, damn, an ad break every 2 to 5 minutes is excessive. I realize we endure ads to watch great content like this; but seriously, content peovider, is this really how you want your content to be viewed?
Read the book of Genesis with a heart toward the outcast (such as Hagar and Ishmael, Esau, Tamar-Perez-Zerah, Rachel-Jacob-Joseph-Benjamin, Manasseh-Ephraim) and you might have a different reading.
• b r o o d i h g. • I can feel that fluttering of the brooding eagle over its egg. The sound of purring. And these from the spirit of God brooding on the face of cold icy waters. As i hear it and feel it, i recall that Job reveals lightning from the crystals in snow clouds. • warm air and icy clouds • i can see the lightning fill the sky and hear the ear-piercing crash of a nearby lightning strike. Theres a language coded in the lightning. Fish and birds were created from light and water. The spirit of God brooding is what brought forth. First light...and then the borders of light. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the code in light build everything. The same spirit brooded over Mary and transferred or constructed the DNA of the word as a human being. One sperm cell has the code necessary to create 30,000,000,000,000 cells all with their own instructions. (The creator has some reason for asking us not to pollute the DNA. We don't know everything.) Creating atomic particles would be easy--same pattern as everthing else.
I only looked at the bible. Even dismissing the historical crucifixion. The world became a wasteland, covered in darrkness and void of understanding. It is about the people he found in the wilderness. The Shining One, the Snake, David, the Morning Star, is the precious cornerstone of Jesus' work of salvation, which he began as the first Adam. The fiery sword represents the day of vengeance AS judgment, being made to be sin, setting up the abomination of desolation in him, the temple without one stone left standing upon another. Noah treads the winepress and gets drunk. The winpress represents the day of wrath. Adam and Noah are both found naked and both start the world out in a barren wasteland. God tells Noah he will put an end to all mortals on earth. Isaiah tells us that when teh overwhelming scourage passes, your covenant with death will be cancelled. Isaiah also telss us that after a fiery blast of judgment, God will create the column of smoke and pillar of fire. The smoking pot and burning brazier become the column of smoke and pillar of fire. Jacob is born 'striking' at the heel of Esau, the first born. Esau lives by the sword and serves his brother. Isaac blessed Esau saying: "Ah, far from the fertile earth shall be your dwelling; far from the dew of the heavens above! (Gen 27:39 NABO) "My kingdom does not belong to this world. (Joh 18:36 NABO) Where I am going you cannot come. (Joh 8:21 NABO) The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens themselves (Eph 4:10 NABO) "By your sword you shall live, and your brother you shall serve; But when you become restive (weak; infirm; a worm; man of suffering; wanderer in the desert), you shall throw off his yoke from your neck." (Gen 27:40 NABO) ------- Moses represents the way of the lord in the desert and Joshua the day of vengeance. Sacrifice - Indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins. Resurrection - A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! (Isa 40:2-3 NABO) They are the column of smoke and pillar of fire. First death, then judgment, after which he returns from this Holocaust with God’s gift of salvation from the abomination of desolation set up in him, the temple of his body without one stone left standing upon another, Mat 24:2;25; Jn 2:21. For as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. (Mat 24:37 NABO) "I have decided to put an end to all mortals on earth (Gen 6:13 NABO) The vision of the evenings and the mornings is true, as spoken; (Dan 8:26 NABO) Your covenant with death shall be canceled and your pact with the nether world shall not stand. When the overwhelming scourge passes, you shall be trampled down by it. Whenever it passes, it shall take you; morning after morning it shall pass, By day and by night; terror alone shall convey the message. (Isa 28:18-19 NABO) In the morning you will say, 'Would that it were evening!' and in the evening you will say, 'Would that it were morning!' for the dread that your heart must feel and the sight that your eyes must see. (Deu 28:67 NABO) There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! (Luk 12:49-50 NABO) "For by my wrath a fire is enkindled that shall rage to the depths of the nether world, Consuming the earth with its yield, and licking with flames the roots of the mountains. (Deu 32:22 NABO) Down I went to the roots of the mountains; the bars of the nether world were closing behind me forever (Jon 2:7 NABO) 'Who will go down into the abyss (nether world)?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead) (Rom 10:7 NABO) -------- This is the Messiah we all know: "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty." (Rev 1:8 NABO) This is the same Messiah from a ‘made to be sin’ perspective: The beast that you saw existed once but now exists no longer. It will come up from the abyss and is headed for destruction. (Rev 17:8 NABO)
In the beginning God created the (heaven) and the earth. Now look at Gen 2.ver1 Thus the (heavens) and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. ❓ Is it heaven or heavens Gen ch1 ver1 says heaven and GenChp1ver2 says heavens

What is the most ‘transparent’ translation for the New Testament?
The A. Conan Doyle standard is that the explanation has to account for *all* of the evidence. The only explanation that I'm aware of that meets that standard is David N. Talbott's.
A video from Dr Tabor has to be long because they are so interesting.
I am learning from you.
How do we get this project started?!!
Does the translation break it down according to source analysis. I have Propp's 2 volume exodus series, I would like something to compliment those.
No. Tabor avoids talking about the Documentary Hypothesis and the various sources. You’ll need a companion book to get that info. I use Friedman.
So the opening of Genesis is a story about terraforming. Or maybe it is allegory and what’s being ordered out of chaos is a system of belief?
So when Jesus said that we must become like children to enter the kingdom of heaven was he referring to our state of consciousness before we ate the forbidden fruit
Zen buddhists calls it 'beginners mind'.
Interesting translation.
The Truth Will Set You Free - when you hearken to it: "No peoples other than the Jews had any input in Jerusalem's establishment."
Maybe you've wondered, too?)
I want to watch the crucifixion scene in movies..
I love your long lectures/interviews. I did not like that you broke up one ijho three
not day 1 but 1 day for all things. were 1 not even the angels were created....?
Is this Tabor dude also a mystic/esoteric student? Or another secular academic?
The coding begins in the language of light
I just downloaded the book and look forward to studying it. I find your treatment of Gen. 1 & 2 very helpful. Dr. John Walton has a similar conclusion in his lecture "Reading Genesis with Ancient Eyes" ua-cam.com/video/ci-6ekUmQFE/v-deo.html
The longer the better
Dr. Tabor do you think that Yeshua was a/the Messiah? To be clear I'm jewish so you know whether he is a 'god' isn't what I'm asking
In the beginning was Tao, The Tao became two, yin/Yang, the two became three, taiji, and the three became the ten thousand things. Simple enough ☯️☯️☯️
Look 4ward 2 this!
Interesting and educational video but, damn, an ad break every 2 to 5 minutes is excessive. I realize we endure ads to watch great content like this; but seriously, content peovider, is this really how you want your content to be viewed?

Bring back Peter Gabriel.
I never thought he was more than a tad above average but he was definitely that.

Read the book of Genesis with a heart toward the outcast (such as Hagar and Ishmael, Esau, Tamar-Perez-Zerah, Rachel-Jacob-Joseph-Benjamin, Manasseh-Ephraim) and you might have a different reading.
I listened for 18 minutes and your guest didn't get a word in.
wow. take a brearh James.
Isaac blessed Esau saying:
"Ah, far from the fertile earth shall be your dwelling; far from the dew of the heavens above! (Gen 27:39 NABO)
"My kingdom does not belong to this world. (Joh 18:36 NABO)
Where I am going you cannot come. (Joh 8:21 NABO)
The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens themselves (Eph 4:10 NABO)
"By your sword you shall live, and your brother you shall serve; But when you become restive (weak; infirm; a worm; man of suffering; wanderer in the desert), you shall throw off his yoke from your neck." (Gen 27:40 NABO)
-------
Moses represents the way of the lord in the desert and Joshua the day of vengeance.
Sacrifice - Indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins.
Resurrection - A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! (Isa 40:2-3 NABO)
They are the column of smoke and pillar of fire.
(Mat 24:37 NABO)
"I have decided to put an end to all mortals on earth (Gen 6:13 NABO)
The vision of the evenings and the mornings is true, as spoken; (Dan 8:26 NABO)
Your covenant with death shall be canceled and your pact with the nether world shall not stand. When the overwhelming scourge passes, you shall be trampled down by it. Whenever it passes, it shall take you; morning after morning it shall pass, By day and by night; terror alone shall convey the message. (Isa 28:18-19 NABO)
In the morning you will say, 'Would that it were evening!' and in the evening you will say, 'Would that it were morning!' for the dread that your heart must feel and the sight that your eyes must see. (Deu 28:67 NABO)
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! (Luk 12:49-50 NABO)
"For by my wrath a fire is enkindled that shall rage to the depths of the nether world, Consuming the earth with its yield, and licking with flames the roots of the mountains. (Deu 32:22 NABO)
Down I went to the roots of the mountains; the bars of the nether world were closing behind me forever (Jon 2:7 NABO)
'Who will go down into the abyss (nether world)?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead) (Rom 10:7 NABO)
--------
This is the Messiah we all know:
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty." (Rev 1:8 NABO)
This is the same Messiah from a ‘made to be sin’ perspective:
The beast that you saw existed once but now exists no longer.
