It is important to pray for those who are lost. I was saved in my early fifties, eight years ago. Before, I did not know my left hand from my right and followed this world. I watched and listened with despair when I heard the way in which some evolutionists speak about the Living God or that there is no God. That the earth is billions of years old. However, I am now confident to state my case for creation and a young earth. It makes sense. I used to moan about the rain but realised that without rain, there is no fruit, vegetables, farmland feed for the animals, flowers, plants and water for mankind.
The Bible is God's word written for us and how Jesus Christ died for our sins. That death no longer has a hold on us.
Thank you, Dr. Bill Barrick, for your teaching and to the Master's Seminary for the sessions that are free to watch.

What a refreshing presentation of Biblical truth. I am 70 years old, and have taught in adult Sunday School and small groups very similarly the things you have pointed out, except for the Tablet theory, which I have only discovered in the past year. I have long believed that Noah had brought tablets on the Ark with him, because I raised the same questions you did about Caine and Abel's sacrifice, Abrahams mature relationship with God, and that he kept God's statutes(his chuqqim) and laws.(Torah). The word "chuqqim" has a meaning to engrave, denoting permanent prescribed rules of conduct. "(NBC 1930:201 ) In other words something indelibly scribed on something like a rock or clay tablet. I haven't decided completely what to make of the Tablet found at the excavations at Nineveh in Assurbanipal's library, which says,"I, Ashurbanipal, within the palace, understood the wisdom of Nabu [the god of learning]. All the art of writing of every kind. I made myself the master of them all. I read the cunning tablets of Sumer and the dark Akkadian language
which is difficult to rightly use; I took my pleasure in reading stones
inscribed before the flood. The best of the scribal art, such works as none of
the kings who went before me had ever learnt, remedies from the top of the head
to the toenails, non-canonical selections, clever teachings, whatever pertains
to the medical mastery of [the gods] Ninurta and Gala, I wrote on tablets, checked and collated, and deposited within my palace for perusing and reading."
Anyway, I was so happy to hear someone who appears so informed on the Tablet theory, and appear to hold that view yourself, as I am more and more convinced that it is the proper understanding of these first 11 chapters. I can't wait to watch the next video. Thanks so much for your insights.

Dear Acute Logic, you may want to read Dr. Irving Finkel's book, "The Ark before Noah." You have confused something: the Tablets were not in existence until Sinai, a few thousand years passed the original flood. (Dr. Finkel is the Associate Director/Curator of the British Museums Cuneiform Studies and Collection. You may be surprised to find that much of what we have been told past of Noah - is not true. - Respectfully, Rev. Manuel Colunga-Hernandez, www dot colunga-hernandez dot com. There is a lot more to this whole story.

Dr. Barrick brings up an interesting theory at 21:00 that Genesis wasn't even written by Moses, but closer to 5th century BC or 1st century BC. I don't think he really addressed this theory by reminding us of God's work in the revelation of the Law. Or did I misunderstand? How would one respond to this?

    • @colorado7bill
      @colorado7bill 5 років тому +3

My purpose in mentioning the theory involves our current cultural milieu. The best response includes focusing on the very strong internal biblical evidence supporting Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch.

  • @biblicaltheologyexegesisan9024

Yes John Walton went off the reservation. accomodation. He had no idea what to do with Paul Seely's work in WTJ in 91 and he had no way to salvage it and came up with his accomodation that actually makes things worse. Paul Seely also did not know what to do and he went his own way too

It’s weird that Barrick agrees with DeRouchie’s view on the toledot formula as being a transitional heading but then he calls it a colophon (9:03) which is what DeRouchie strongly rejects.

Dr. Barrick said the class could ask questions. I will pose one now. Dr. Barrick said that a prophet receives direct revelation from the Most High and his examples were Adam being told what to do in the garden and then on to Noah knowing which clean animals to take with him in the ark. Noah was also instructed by the Most High, directly, to build the ark. My question is if a prophet receives direct revelation from the Most High (in the Hebrew scriptures we can see 'Thus saith the Lord' and so on) then where is the direct revelation given to Jesus in the New Testament? This is a legitimate question and I would like some understanding. Thank you.

God doesn't need to reveal anything to Himself. As a matter of fact, Jesus Himself was the one who was revealing the true nature of the Father to all men whether they accept Him or not. I pray this was of help to your understanding of who Jesus was, God bless.

I can't imagine discussing a subject without identifying the sources.

    26:08 what a sloppy misunderstanding.
“Is that deception, is that lying?”
No. It isn’t lying. It’s respecting the text. Surely he believes in accommodation in other areas but not this.
I feel he’s missing the point of Walton et al: the text says what it says but adding a concordist view of science here.

The ten commandments as written by inspired man are written directly by God! Not sure the difference between inspired and directly is understood.
Either way we can test the spirit to know if it is based on Love.
    1. I, the Lord am your God. You shall have no other God's before me.
    Yes, of love. Fidelity
    2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God, in vain.
    Yes, of love. Being respectful.
    3. Remember to keep the Sabbath day.
Yes, of love. To maintain relationships

The whole purpose of faith is believing, if all the questions are answered, what then do we have to place our faith in? Being material beings and knowing we have a fall in nature we are going to squirrel or nuts, it’s just what we do.
But as to how potentially, “the law” was given to man - we have two hints that could very well playing to a Direction… obviously one of the most basic tools and theology, or just basic biblical exposition Is ass professor already elucidated, let scripture translate scripture.
And I believe when it comes to the delivery of the law which was not just for Israel, It is a Kodak four-man to coexist with man until the Lord returns not disturbing his free will but placing the priority we are supposed to get a hint of what the first four, remember and biblical numerology force the number of earth, that I believe would support that direction, secondly the number six being the number of man, you have six that man enter relates with, and four he is to reference.
Which then plays into later Jacobs ladder, angels ascending and descending, the word angel means messenger they are delivering something, but something is what the Lord had set aside for each individual one of us who is in a relationship so it is no surprise that The Lord chose to reveal the way he did to Jacob.
It is I believe not too far-fetched concept to believe that if we go to Steven rebuttal in Acts chapter 7:53, where of course depending upon what translation you’re reading delivered by Angels will say some, ordained by angels in other, it makes sense that God would use a creature that resembles a man, we go through scripture angels do not have wings, we always hear of men in white robes, deliver the oracles but yet man rejected them, and that was Stevens condemnation to this sect of the Sanhedrin that was accusing him.
So, I believe there may be something to the suggestion that you made rather off the cuff, that perhaps angels were a mechanism to deliver the law. Because this follows a biblical model God since the instruction angels carry it out, when Satan is allowed to intervene, Satan is given the imperative, and demons apply it, systemically., So you have the flip.
GENESIS is loaded with so many nuggets,Great teaching, John MacArthur still is my first and foremost, I used to attend the church before there was even a masters college, love you guys, keep up the good work

About God accommodating man, Jesus addressed that in the law about divorce. Jesus literally said it was written because of their hard hearts. It's very possible that GOD spoke in terms the humans understood at that time.

And God said: Let there be light! What kind of light? Answer: Angels!
And God saw the light and the light was good! Meaning: The angels are good!
And God separated the light from the darkness! Meaning: God saved the good angels (light) from the fallen angels (night).
And God called the light "Day" and the darkness "Night".
Meaning: The loyal angels (light) are forever with God (Day) and the fallen angels (darkness) are forever damned (night)!

The most hated prophets of their times , often, turn out to be the most revered ever, when their messages come to fruition, contrarily to what the deceptive comfort of times would want them to say. Noah was out of his mind to his contemporaries until the day they come crying to him for help, which he couldn’t do. Prophet Jeremy would not have to run for his life, after delivering the message of God to them, to avoid being handed over to their enemies, if his message was taken seriously. These two examples and many others, help us to realize that the denial of reality, isn’t new to town. Dating back to centuries, according to the Bible, slavery wasn’t attributed to blacks being at the receiving end of the savagery of slavery, but rather at the opposite end of the spectrum, mainly at the place where civilization begins. Sadly, the institution of slavery is the work of God, punishing any nation worshipping the devils, that he himself created, which no human being can counteract their vicious attacks. While a powerful message showcasing the power of God plays a role to highlight the difference between the creator and the devils, the way to go about it should never have been to put to endanger anyone’s life. That senseless practice of God, to allow his angels to persecute us, as his only way to take care of his trashy creatures of heaven for their misbehavior is nothing but repulsive. Be it Marie and Joseph, walking distance and having to give birth to the presumptive king of kings in a manger, or the poor man, whose heart heart breaks apart, and help Jesus carrying the cross on his way to Calvary, the many millions who accept to die in the most inhuman ways imaginable, or the countless others who are to these days, are languishing under the constant attacks, and cruelty of the so-called fallen angels. To give ourselves a false sense of normalcy, claiming our debt has been paid, and we’re free from the dominance of the devils, simply isn’t true. From the many poor people being asked by the devils to offer them in sacrifice what they don’t have, and often destroy their lives and shred their heart to pieces, by killing their offsprings , attacking their health , forcing them to spend what they do have. Kids they prevent from learning to school, families they pit against each other, neighbors they push to fight against each other, good natured-persons they transform into brutal animals. Don’t tell me, we’re free inside that messy world we exist. We refuse to believe that a responsible God would have allowed such nonsense to occur under his watch, and seemingly retreat in a forgotten corner somewhere. We see kids being manhandled by the devils, wallowing in the dirt of the earth, just like a pig would. We see devil-possessed people climbing trees , and being left on the top of the trees, and incapable of coming down on their own. We heard stories of those devils walking people into burning fire and leave them in there, folks who get sick, and whose medical examination can’t detect their diseases, even when the symptoms indicate what illness that would have been under normal circumstances. Don’t tell me we’re free. We see folks they metamorphose into animals, saddle them and openly called them their horses, those they blow up their brains, and many whose future they mess up. Are they free? Folks who scare to go to bed, fearing they might be attacked while sleeping by the devils, and the list goes on and on. Are they free, indeed? I understand some people have the fortunes to only know about the devils in the Bible, and never have gone through something similar to what Job has experienced, they might think it is all over, sorry, the fight gets nastier as the days prolong. In some places, we could smell the evils in the air, feel compelled to be as close as you can be to God. There comes my problem with God, why granting the devils the privilege of attacking us to hold them accountable for their actions against you, that we have nothing to do with? One the funny stuff is, those devils train a lot of people to do harm to others, force their will upon them, and demand that their children and grandchildren do the same, similarly to what God says in the Ten Commandments. Their refusal to do so, would mean their demise. But to amplify their actions, their buddy Jesus, instruct them that those they traumatize and who fall under their attack, will go to hell alongside of them. That’s the dirty game we first witnessed in the garden of Eden, the persecution of Job, and more. Their nonsense in heaven, should always fall down on us, under some kind of pretense, that we never could get a good explanation for, for they are flat out nonsense. You can’t pretend you send people to slavery for worshipping the devils that you, yourself has created, upon which you’re the only with dominion. If emptying Africa was what you thought was necessary to prevent idolatry, it begs the question, what your devils are doing all over the world where these people were being dispersed? You must have forgotten they don’t travel by boat, airplanes , cars, or donkeys, horses , etc , and descending from heaven to scare them away, and sending their worshippers to slavery, didn’t confine them and they pursued those people and forced them again to do the exact same thing. Why punishing the students, while their teachers are at large? What sense does it make? Furthermore, the expertise of any professional dwells in the quality of their work. What were you thinking, the day you decided to create your trashy creatures of heaven? Do they reflect your character, in any shape or form? Are they incapable of telling right from wrong, that you cannot directly holds them liable for? What’s about God of justice? Sabotaging someone’s life, to concoct a justification to punish your angels for their dirty acts against you, has something to do with justice? You dump too much crap on us, we run out of space and we cannot believe, that we always have to be blamed for getting pooped on, under the nose of our creator. Be man enough to stand up to your crappy angels or devils.

Does anyone know that Genesis was written chronologically with history?
These Biblical books were written by inspired authors looking back at earlier periods of time and writing what God inspires them to write.
This is not understood or explained.
God is telling us about history that only he can account for.
Truth tells us about the history of how people related to truth.

The Creation does not end in Genesis. It goes all up the ages of history even into today. The first page of the bible. Is really the first day after the flood. The spirit brooded above the waters. Both God and the dove sent out by Noah. God said let there be light. The clouds part and the new light created on the 4th day is up in the sky. Before Noah water never covered the earth or rain. A mist and water flowing up from the ground watered the earth. The first page of the bible is after the earth was flood. Noah is the 4th earth day period. Adam Eve are the 3rd earth day period. 1st Temple is the 5th earth day period. 2nd Temple birth of Jesus is the 6th earth day period. On the sixth day God created Man. The new Adam Jesus Christ. On the 7th day God rested. Jesus death entered into Gods rest. Today we are in the 6th earth day period. The generation of the cross. We pick and eat the fruit from the tree of life for eternal life. As we can now see. We have two early earth day periods missing before Adam Eve. These were all wiped out by the flood. Noah was a priest. It was not his so called pure blood that saved him. As all blood was corrupted from Adam on. No... Noah's FAITH in following Gods ways is what saved him. Noah believed in this covenant with God. Just as Jesus on the cross is the fruit of tree of life we eat from. Satan is the tree of good and evil. No he was not a talking snake. He was a glorious angel who preached in heaven. His message became corrupted as he saw Adam was to Preach on earth and Eves beauty and the power of her beauty out shined his. Many Angels burned with lust for the women. They hybrid all flesh along with all nature plants animals. Remember God said. You will die if you eat from the tree? Well they didn't die, but lived for close to a thousand years. It caused over population of the earth. Why? Because they are not God and can not create anything. But as we can see they are pretty smart and can manipulate things. They are trying to be like God and it didn't work out so good for them. God flood the earth then they reappear a few generation later. How? All flesh was corrupted. Its in our genes. That's why Jesus said: You can not put new wine in an old wine skin. It will burst. Your father was a liar from the beginning. No man can serve two masters. That is why we have this war inside us. The spirit is good wants to do whats right. But the flesh is corrupt and craves all kinds of goodies. Lucky we have the shed blood of Jesus. Along with old age to temper the flesh to the point we can start to listen what Jesus has told us we should be doing.

The Old Testament, which includes Genesis, was not written for the whole of mankind as the good Dr. Barrick, says, but was written solely for the benefit/history of the Israelites.

    • @sunavila

No. God's love, mercy, and wisdom was never exclusive to Israel. Look at Gen 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. (King James Bible) According to the book of Proverbs, fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom. During ancient times, Israel accepted foreigners (during the Exodus it is believed that many Egyptians also left to follow the one true God) and there are several laws regarding how the foreigners were to live alongside the Hebrews while in their land (they were to observe their laws, like the Sabbath). Furthermore, the Book of Jonah (also in the Old Testament) is an example of God's love and mercy being shared with the wicked city of Nineveh as well as a portion which dictates a scene were pagan sailors recognized and worshiped The Lord. The point being, that the idea that the Old Testament was not written for the whole of mankind is with all due respect, stupid. We are all descendants of Noah, and of Adam. Read the Old Testament and see how wrong your statement is for yourself.

Now I wonder why you chose to include the term 'stupid' in your comments, when the word 'incorrect' would have served equally well?
But then my original comment was that 'The Old Testament was not written for the benefit of mankind but Israel alone'. I never made mention of "God's love, mercy, and wisdom was never exclusive to Israel" as you contend it is.
The Hebrew Bible-The Old Testament-is a history of God's chosen people.
His favour was exclusively directed, not to the world but to a certain group of peoples. In Genesis 15, we find-
When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces. 18 On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi[e] of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates- 19 the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, 20 Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, 21 Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”
Land , incidentally, which had to be torn by force of arms from the hands of the peoples who already owned it. No, mercy, or love here we find from God for the other nations of the world.
. And while on the subject of God's love and mercy, it would be enlightening to read the following-"I also gave them over to statutes that were not good and laws they could not live by; I let them become defiled through their gifts-the sacrifice of every firstborn-that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am the LORD". (Ezekiel 20:25-26)

Edward Longfellow If I offended you with my comment, I apologize. I chose to include the term stupid as this misconception could very easily stray a person from reading the Old Testament and benefiting from it by believing that they have very little to gain unless they were Jewish.
God’s love, mercy, and wisdom can manifest in several ways as he is limitless and it is clear that one of the manifestations of His wisdom is his gift of the word. You’re absolutely right, the Old Testament is a book of the Israelite’s history. But the Old Testament also contains the creation of all of mankind. It also contains information on the true creator. It doesn’t matter if a person is Jewish or not as God created them both, and the Old Testament is information that God allowed humans to pass on so that they may acquire a little understanding about Him. This in itself is a reason why the Old Testament is not just a history book for the benefit of Israel.
Yes, God chose the people of Israel, but that does not mean that they were his only people. It doesn’t necessarily matter that the Israelites inherited their land through force, as it does not remove the fact that God has love for all His creation regardless of being gentile or Hebrew. The Old Testament has many gentile people who have importance. Keep in mind that The Lord also cast judgment on Israel many times for idol worship, so they did not get “special treatment”. The very same land he took from other nations to give to them, was later raided and even taken from them as punishment.
      Isaiah 56:6-7 (King James)
Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

An apology is always the mark of a gentleman. Gracias.
On the subject of God's wisdom, however, do we not find considerable problems? Making enemies of one's neighbours is clearly not the way to make friends. By the use of the sword, the Israelities took possession of the lands of at lest ten tribal nations. Not a wise move. Following their conquests the Nation of Israel would be harassed over the centuries. They too would be conquered and taken into captivity. Their final defeat came at the hands of Rome. And God, their commander-in chief, was conspicuous by his absence.
But then God's lack of wisdom was apparent earlier in Hebrew history, when he unleashed 10 plagues against Egypt.
But while the old Bible contains an account of the creation of the world, it is not the only account of the earth's creation. Other countries, other empires, held their own account to be true. And now science seeks the definitive answer.

He may know Hebrew well, but it appears he doesn't understand Hebrew culture as well.
Statements such as job being as old as the patriarchs is nonsense.
Global implications, when the Bible is a flat earth book.
And that genesis is a book for all mankind. Nonsense.
He knows the Hebrew language but does not know Hebrew culture and idiomatic expressions. Too much Christian theology has permeated this man's mind to make those types of conclusions.
Genesis is not a world history book for all of mankind.
