  • Rabbi Blech's accomplishments extend beyond his numerous books and impressive academic career. He has been recognized for his influence and contributions to the Jewish community, both nationally and internationally. In a national survey conducted by Jewsweek.com, Rabbi Blech was ranked #16 in a listing of the 50 most influential Jews in America.
Rabbi Blech's impact on the community extends beyond his leadership roles. He has hosted a popular weekly radio program in New York and has written for publications such as Newsweek, The New York Times, and Newsday. He has also made appearances on national television, including the Oprah Winfrey Show.
One of Rabbi Blech's most significant achievements was his role in securing the loan of precious Jewish manuscripts for exhibition in Israel after a personal meeting with the late Pope John Paul II.
He is currently involved in further negotiations for the return of precious Judaica held by the Vatican, which may prove to be of historic significance (The Rambam's seforim!).
A tenth-generation rabbi, Rabbi Blech is a Professor of Talmud at Yeshiva University and was the Rav of Young Israel of Oceanside for many years.
In this week's episode, Rabbi Blech tells us about how The Lubavitch Rebbe made him a secret agent chabad Rabbi, his incredible stories with the Pope, how they found some of the missing items from the Beis Hamikdash and so much more.

My view, HATE is a powerful yet mindless emotion. Hitler now called a madman used HATE to run his people to what most call insanity, The leaders were punished. The real problem is all, most people, who did not object. FDR perhaps the start of big government in the US. He died in his fourth term as president.
A freighter was hired and landed in New York Harbor loaded with Jewish refugees from Germany. FDR would not allow them to land. They were sent back to Germany and all but less than ten died in the concentration camps. People like to say they didn't know. There were phots. The church knew. Guilty was all those who let it happen. Imagine HITLER and his nation murdered half the Jews in Europe.

Three million of the six million Jews that died in concentration camps were Polish Jews - and an ADDITIONAL three million mostly-Catholic Poles were killed, because what Germany wanted most of all was to annex Poland, and take over their superior industrial manufacturing.
But while we often hear about six million Jews being killed, I've rarely run across even a passing reference that six million Poles were killed.
And Stalin, murderous monster that he was, had 22,000 Polish intellectuals, nobles, writers, teachers, political and business leaders, poets, and other people of influence kidnapped and taken into the Smolensk forest, near Katyn, and had them executed and dumped into a mass grave, which was discovered on 10 April 1940.
And then Roosevelt and Churchill colluded to place the blame on Hitler, who likely knew nothing about it, because Stalin was their "ally."

As a former student of Rabbi Blech at Yeshiva University, I can say that he was the most amazing teacher and rabbi I have ever listened to. He was the inspiration for me to enter the rabbinate. By the way, although we didn't have a Chabad Club in the 80's, a Lubavitcher would come once a week to the beis midrash and teach Tanya, of which I was a regular participant! May G-d grant Rabbi Blech, Shlit"a many more years ad bias Goel!

I never did understand how theyre not REQUIRED to give the items back.....whether legally or morally. I mean its not like it would be under dispute as to who they belong to. If its public knowledge that they have them how is it not theft in the eyes of the world? How are they not ashamed to not give them back? Especially in todays climate of 'cultural appropriation'! Imagine having to ask for, on loan, something that's yours.

he was not insensitive. what do you want and what do you want it for? people have died for these items and they are safe. maybe in the wrong place but safe, they are there. the pope is a king with direct connection to the creator. it might not be your belief but it is the proclamation of his existence. i am not talking about right or wrong. every door has a lock and some cannot be torched down or hammered down. ownership belongs to the Jewish people. i think thats a good seed but it is a dead end if you raise weapons. done correctly the door is wide open. terms............ your approach has been done and it has gone no place. why walk the same road again. not right or wrong i re state. a locked door that is not locked no magic no riddles the door is not locked and the door is open. why do you want this and what do you want? you want justice ask the creator. you want an item a man has well.......

This is the moment to remember that in the 70 ACE the General Titus and his powerful Roman Army did sack and destroy the second Jerusalem temple. It is doubtless that Titus heist the Temple sacred gold (and no gold) items because, even if you go nowdays to Rome, you can see the Titus triunph arc and clearly the menorah is among the bas relief marked in it. So, if the goths that sack Rome 400 years after Titus did not take with them the treasure, then the swag is probably in some place in Rome ¿The Vatican maybe?

A super frustrating interview. Major disappointment. Only a tiny fraction was devoted to the items that the Vatican plundered from the Jewish people, items still in Church hands.
Adding insult to injury, the rabbi hints at an item from the Holy Temple that he saw or knew about, yet he keeps secret what that item is!, That secretive item belongs to the Jewish people and not to the rabbi. That's not his secret to keep. Just the opposite it's his to share. And he didn't do that. The interviewer did not do enough to find out on what basis this item has to remain secret. Instead there's all kinds of mishmash and other talk and whatnot, what a waste of an interview.

    Powerful. Thank you for this.
Please change the Menorah image to the Rembams Menorah image with the Straight branches as the episode speaks so much of the precision of the Rambam.

The artifacts should be returned to the Jewish people. However they can’t just fly or sail the items over because they are sacred and old. The items would need a new secure place. Israel is at war and does not have access on the Temple Mount to build their temple. We would not want the Muslims to blow up the artifacts. So it’s a mess. Those details would need to be worked out.
