I've had great results from Momotoro Bacteria House media in my koi pond. It's a cylindrical ceramic media that the momotoro koi farm uses as their only filtration material in the show ponds. I haven't noticed or heard of any break down of the media in my 1+ year of use
Hi Joey I love the video you gave me good ideas to do my sump too. Love videos like this it helps us small people like me with small tanks. Thanks for the video Joey you are awesome keep doing videos.
I would really love to see you do some videos on how to get into the hobby. Give us that good information. The internet is overloaded with opinions. I'd love to hear yours and I think a lot of other people will too!
Would be cool to add solenoid valves onto those green water change hoses you have. You could then link them all to a main drain pipe at the back of the sump area and make draining water super easy. I know you've said before it doesn't take you all that much time but would be a cool project
Joey you're an inspiration to all aquarium owners, thanks for all the great content you're literally the best and congratulations on your 1m subscribers!
Great vids Joey I was wondering when you would be doing another discus video. I am about to start keeping discus and that would be amazing. Thanks and congratulations on 1 mil.
@The king of DIY , Can you potentially explore the idea of setting a reverse light cycle on one of your sumps and place Potted plants inside. See how it affects the overall quality of those particular tanks in terms of PH and similar?
Thank you so much for your video! I loved it. I always head to ur Chanel when I need things explained, I have learing disabilities and this can sometimes seem jumbled up. But ur videos I not only get information about the projects I'm working on for my 20 fish tanks...but you always make me smile. I loved in the last video u just started throwing the boxes 😄 🤣. Do you have any videos for saltwater sump with a refugium? Thank you again so much 💖
How do you find time to be a dad, work a full-time job, be an +1 millions follower youtubers, be an exceptional aquarist, and workout? Dude u make it hard for regular Joe's like us lol hahaha. congrats on your video and content
Captain Hook looks like he has become very comfortable in his new home. Every Oscar I have ever had has a personality different from others. Has he showed anything of his likes and/or dislikes? Does he recognize you? Once one of my Oscars didn't eat one of the gold fish feeders I had given him. They were buddies for a long time. I love Oscars. I am finding it hard not to get another one.
Sailesh StHa yes I know that. I enjoy getting babies and watching them grow. I also didn't feed him only feeders. He ate other types of food. He liked getting something new. One of my other Oscars loved crawfish tails and the dry food. He didn't like the feeders much.
Because of you, I will be running three aquariums on one heating/oxygenating/filtration system. It will be a series of plastic jars with three pumps and splitters going to them (pumps from each aquarium). 2 for different kinds of filtering, 1 for heating, 1 for oxygenating . Everything is going to be done outside of my aquariums so they will look all pretty inside and disturb the fish as little as possible. I also figured I would have a splitter system with shutoff valves so I could maximize the use of the pumps to changing the water too. Shut off the filter system, and turn on the water draining system using the pumps to drain it. I don't want to pay that much for an inline heater, so I figure once they all cycle through a few times, all of them could be heated by that one jar and cheap little heater.
Where do you get the poly pads cheap enough to replace them every few days? I see them on Amazon and Marine Depot but they aren’t cheap to dispose of that frequently. I’m not into washing and reusing either. Thanks.
Every time I’m in Asda’s (which I think is Walmart in Canada?) I always see big tubs/barrels and think “hmmm I could make a good filter out of this” and I don’t even need a big filter as I don’t have a big tank 😂😂
How do u decide on the pumps u use? Like how do u know the GPH /LPH rate to use, to prevent ur sump from over flowing or ur tank from drainning too fast
I don't know anything about DIY or anything but I'm curious: How do you regulate the in -and outflow of the sump so that it is exactly equal? I imagine that not having this be exactly the same would either cause your sump to overflow or to get drained after a while, no?
With a sump, there is no management of this. In the video before this, he explained how an overflow works - which you need an overflow when you have a sump. In short, as the water gets pumped into the tank from the sump, it needs somewhere to go, otherwise it will fill the tank up and you'll start to overflow and get water everywhere and eventually drain your sump. To prevent this, you need somewhere else for the water to go - which you want it to go back into your sump - so you install an overflow, like the hole in your sink or bath tub. When the water gets to the overflow, it will just exit, gravity doing the rest, and right back into the sump. Your in- and outflow are reliant on just how quickly your pump can move water.
Have you ever tried Anoxic Filtration System/Biocenosis Clarification Basket in your sump? it would be cool to see you run a test on that Anywho thank for great content and inspiration
Have you thought of a way to cover sumps to avoid evaporation? It might be a bit tricky with the plumbing but I'm sure you could just notch out some spots in the greenhouse paneling and that would do the trick.
Love all your information and DIY guidance! Lots of encouragement in building my own sump for a reef tank I want to start. You have mechanical and biological filtration. Curious, what about chemical filtration? Charcoal for instance.
How i built these filters so easily: ua-cam.com/video/9WaC5d14Ij0/v-deo.html
The king of DIY awesome work and video the water looks fresh and clean 👍
Bruce is lonely Joey. Hope you give him some friends

Joey. You used to be all about the fluidized filter media life, do you still use it? If not why have you converted?
Do you think all your fish look out their tanks & think... Man, is this guy messy!
i love using aquariums as filters. so easy to see what everything is doing, and if any sections need cleaned. super simple, and very effective.
Loved that you changed it up to DIY, very simple 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I dont have an aquarium but still i watch your videos!!
Looks great bro! Simple and clean 🤙
Joey thanks for sharing how to build different sumps makes things easier for us
I knew them sumps would get changed, much better now to clean and see what's going on 👍
Hi Joey I love the video you gave me good ideas to do my sump too. Love videos like this it helps us small people like me with small tanks. Thanks for the video Joey you are awesome keep doing videos.
Dude love your DIY PROJECTS. Even if we've seen them before, nice to see you using DIY yourself vs the fancy stuff. Bravo!!!

The wait is everytime worth it 😉
I would really love to see you do some videos on how to get into the hobby. Give us that good information. The internet is overloaded with opinions. I'd love to hear yours and I think a lot of other people will too!
Research what you want to keep, learn about the nitrogen cycle, buy a tank big enough for the fish you want, cycle the tank and go nuts.
He has them look in his past videos they go back like 10 years.
Captain Hook looks huge!
I am only two minutes into the video and I am already liking it!!!!!! I love your DIYs!!!!!
Congrats on one mil!
Congratulations Joey 1 million already

Congrats on 1M Joey!
Great vids Joey I was wondering when you would be doing another discus video. I am about to start keeping discus and that would be amazing. Thanks and congratulations on 1 mil.
Awesome
Question
why are you changing the sumps tho?
He said in the vid before he just switched it around so we could watch and that he usually would do something different every 6 months
Love the videos Joey I learn a lot about how to make fish filters and the different types of fish to keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Congrats on 1 Mil man❤
congrats on 1 million!!!
i love your videos so much plsssss upload fun stuff iwait each day until you upload
Congrats on 1 million
I like the new DIY sumps. They are so much easier to view and clean then the seamless custom milk plastic ones. Now I know why you switched them out.
Long live the King! (Of DIY)
Massively Cool I love watching you work Great ideas
@The king of DIY , Can you potentially explore the idea of setting a reverse light cycle on one of your sumps and place Potted plants inside. See how it affects the overall quality of those particular tanks in terms of PH and similar?
I was looking so forward to this vlog😍😍
Joey goes big. Always. Never small. Never one. Just sledgehammer it all. Yolo!
1 million!!! Congrats man!
I enjoyed this. I'd do it but have all my tanks separated through the house to make the most of natural lighting . It's given me a few good ideas .
Congrats on 1M subs Joey! 😉
Congratulations on your 1 million subscribers.
Tuned in for a Fish Show
Didn't realize it was also a Gun Show!
How about a DIY on how to build those!
Thank you so much for your video! I loved it. I always head to ur Chanel when I need things explained, I have learing disabilities and this can sometimes seem jumbled up. Those shoes tho! 🔥 They were sold out by the time i tried to get me a pair. Cool fish and fresh shoes make for an awesome UA-cam channel
Joey, your going back to your roots. You look happy, when doing DIY.
Grats with 1 mill viewers ^^

It's better to get Oscar from small size and feed them with proper food.. will bring out the patterns more
Sailesh StHa yes I know that. I enjoy getting babies and watching them grow. I also didn't feed him only feeders. He ate other types of food. He liked getting something new. One of my other Oscars loved crawfish tails and the dry food. He didn't like the feeders much.

Cool! I should try this
I have to say I love the Captain. I'm not an Oscar fan but he is pretty cute.
Must be difficult maintaining so many large tanks! Respect
I've never spotted a video so close to when it was uploaded, woohoo!
Love your videos joey
congratulations on 1million subs
Great work joey really love ur videos as always 😁😁😁
Adorable professor DIY. Also Hiiii Capt. Hook! =)
your vids are my favorite
Thank you for showing us the wonderful simple sump/filter system. Do they have enough flow so you can also add fluidized media to it?
Love your videos you inspired me to build my own tank with baby oscars
Where do you get the poly pads cheap enough to replace them every few days? I see them on Amazon and Marine Depot but they aren’t cheap to dispose of that frequently. I’m not into washing and reusing either. Thanks.
walmart !!!!!
Every time I’m in Asda’s (which I think is Walmart in Canada?) I always see big tubs/barrels and think “hmmm I could make a good filter out of this” and I don’t even need a big filter as I don’t have a big tank 😂😂
😂
Why did you switch out those expensive sumps for diy breeders?
To show that they work just as well.
Nice job 👍🏻
Can you do a video with you doing your water chemistry checks please
Dude yes!!! Thank you!!!! I was looking at sumps for $350
How do u decide on the pumps u use? Like how do u know the GPH /LPH rate to use, to prevent ur sump from over flowing or ur tank from drainning too fast
It’s an overflow, it’ll only drain as much water as you put in, just use 1.5” or bigger pipe and you’ll be fine.
Just make my day😀
Your up early joey rest lol...good morning and thanx for another good vidoe
I got a flashlight so we can be Fancccy. Lol you make me laugh in every video. It makes my husband think Im crazy , well let's be honest..... I am lol
Ya I was omygosh haha I wonder if he remembers some of the stuff he says haha

Thump up again 👍
Your srs are the KING OF DIY TY SO SO MUCH. You’ve just un flipped my wallet so much. Thank you so much!!!!! YUR THE MAN FR
Dat is one hell lot of work wow😊
Awesome dude
hi you inspired me to build an 80 gallon
Very informative videos, any update on the micro tank?
Loved It!!!
Have you ever tried Anoxic Filtration System/Biocenosis Clarification Basket in your sump? it would be cool to see you run a test on that
Anywho thank for great content and inspiration
With the new sumps in the 40 gallon tanks do you have covers or something to help stop evaporation?
Have you thought of a way to cover sumps to avoid evaporation? It might be a bit tricky with the plumbing but I'm sure you could just notch out some spots in the greenhouse paneling and that would do the trick.
FML look at his biceps and triceps
Joey! What do you think of guppies?!
They are so beautiful but I have never heard anything about them from you!
Love all your information and DIY guidance! Lots of encouragement in building my own sump for a reef tank I want to start.
