Was looking for your book, glad you tagged it in the comments. I'm going to build a roughly 1000g pond in my sunroom. I'm really into the severums rn, I have 3 red shoulders, 1 turquoise, 1 red spotted turquoise and a gold. When the pond is done I plan on having 3 of each of them and snatch up 3 tigres. Have you had any issue with smaller bichirs in the larger tanks? That's my worry. I have 4 senegals and a retropinnis.
Glad u found a soulmate and best friend forever. Love your channel over the many years. I have been into fish keeping for over 60 years. Great rewarding hobby 😊
Our ideas on sumps are very similar. I’m running water through big sponges in a 40 breeder, over some media and back to the tank. Very simple. I considered those kits but went a different “DIY” route. Thanks!
This is crazy... I literally just plumbed my rack and have been wondering how to go about outfitting the sump. So now my phone is reading my mind and also planting the idea to make this video in Joey's head 😂
Hey Joey, been following your content for quite some time. I was wondering if you could show how to do this without having to drill the tanks? I would like to do an overflow so that the tanks are connected and not have to drill them. Hope to see a video on this. Thanks in advance
Hey Joey, thanks for the video. I've built one of these sumps and I'm about to do another one. Any tips on how to silicone the two baffles that are really close together? I get putting one in, but then how do you get silicone into the edges between the other baffle? Thanks again.
Tank does not need to be drilled to run a sump. You can use an overflow box and return line to ensure the overflow box is the correct size for your application.
I use one of his diy overflow system and it work wonders with a 3000l/hr pump. Can even handle a 4000l/hr pump. Just follow his intructions even for the pipe dimension s
Ive been looking for rock like you have in the Tropheus tank. I think that is “Lace Rock” ?? Like a type of lightweight Lava Rock? Where did you find those pieces?
Congratulations on your wedding Sir!!!🎉🎉🎉 Depending on the acrylic dealer folks are working with, you may be able to buy scraps that are enough to build the sump baffles, or whatever one's mind engineered. ✌🏿💯🤔🤔😎
I've got a question on prepping plants. I watched your video and followed all directions but the salt really seems like it took some of my plants out. Any other method besides salt?
Technically you don't have to drill your aquarium. There are multiple types of hang on back, siphoning style overflows that will return the water to the sump tank. I've had great success with these, but they do run the risk of building up air in the highest spot, possibly stopping the siphon and causing the tank to fill with too much water and spilling onto the floor.
@TJGilles Mine as well, but one time the air extraction line got clogged and it caused the tank to overfill when the siphon stopped. There wasn't much water on the floor because I heard the water splashing and was able to remedy the situation quickly. Luckily I was at home. That's the only time I had a problem with my overflows, and I've had them nearly 9 years.

What is your opinion on using the overflows that don't need drilling. I have a bunch of 3/4 and 1' PVC

Do you need a heater for gold fish where you are as in the UK we just have them at room temperature
Question for those with a better memory than mine - which of Joey's filter or sump builds would work best for a goldfish tank? Thanks!
Hey I have a question for you Joey do you build any aquarium water bridged that you sale??
Have you tried under gravel filtration with slow flow?
Have u ever thought of doing a massive aquarium for a sea bass ?
Could I use this system on a pond?
Can I do this without drilling the tank
Congratulations 🌹💐❣️
hi joey i have been thinking of getting a asian arowana what size tank is best for one pls help
What happens when the motor stops working ? is water still.flowing? What is the mechanism?

Exactly why tanks get drilled!
The one I have has a pump that takes the air out. It's also good because if the power goes out the pump helps restart the siphon.

tell her if she breaks this one she needs to make the next one lol, give the dyi book challenge.
Joey you dont have to drill to add a sump. There are options for not drilling
where can i get a 15 gallon for 15 bucks? everyone around me is selling 5 gals for over 100
No.1
Your tank does not have to be drilled. You can use overflow boxes that hang on the back of the tank, these aren't new technology lol
