    This video is not an actual speedrun world record, nor a speedrun tutorial. This video is a showcase/storytelling of removed/invalidated/disqualified speedruns, explaining the speedrun strategy and various tricks, glitches and bugs that made the speedrun invalid. This video is very similar to my "How Speedrunners Skip..." videos, but with a storytelling twist.

      That's why i don't respect dream, this is how a speedrunner should act, guy got all of his WR speedruns invalidated, grinded and achieved the same results, dream had a 5th place invalidated and started drama

    • @mioszwojtyga5100
      @mioszwojtyga5100 3 роки тому +29

      He didnt start drama but defended himself that he wasnt cheating. These are completely different situations, as in the one from the video, the guy wasnt aware of making this mistake and had no intention cheating. In the case of dream he claims he didnt cheat thus wanting to prove himself innocent, he is a very big personality thats why there is a lot of video material coverage on this topic. Anyways as you say, he still continued to play normally and it didnt affect him that much, if you werent cheating, would you just say fine when being accused of it?

    • @mioszwojtyga5100

      The guy from the video got his runs disqualified for a good reason unlike dream

      @@mioszwojtyga5100 Dream threw various accusations and has blacklisted creators like Karl Jobst for providing evidence about the scandal.
      It's one thing to defend yourself, but Dream has been a bad sport about the whole situation. Shizzal was invalidated, accepted it, and continued playing. He didn't accuse the moderators of being biased. Ontop of that, Shizzal's runs were DQed on technicality, unlike the very cheaty RNG manipulation from Dream.

  • @Msushi
    @Msushi  3 роки тому +1262

    Just to clarify, if it wasn't clear, this IS NOT A DRAMA VIDEO! This is purely informational!
    All parties involved (Shizzal and the Portal mod team [Shizzal is also a part of the Portal mod team]) agree that these runs were invalidated. There was no argument, as this situation was not dramatized, it was simply a misunderstanding.
    And anyone curious about glitches: This is specifically talking about the INBOUNDS speedrun category. This means that ANY glitches are allowed as long as they DO NOT GO OUT OF BOUNDS! There are seperate categories, like out of bounds (any%) where all glitches are allowed, and glitchless, where no glitches are allowed.

      It’s kind of amazing that someone could accidentally break the rules and not realize it, but since that’s clearly and objectively what happened, there really is no other choice but to disqualify the runs. Rules are rules for a reason, after all, and that _was_ the whole point of the category.
      It’d be like submitting a SM64 run in the 16-Star category where you do indeed collect 16 Stars but then do the BLJ to reach DDD and BitFS instead of using MIPS.
      I’m glad he was able to regain his top spot afterwards, though. He definitely deserves it.

    The chamber 5 example is the perfect reason why I was so iffy about save glitch being used in No OoB category - there is no visual distinction between inbounds and out of bounds, you have to examine the demos very carefully to see where the portals land. Most runners just learn routes without investigating or double checking where edge glitched/save glitched portals are landing

      Glitches aren't black and white always. Allowing some but denying others is difficult and at times can infuriate the community.
      With the extend of glitches, it's good that most basic speedrun categories do allow glitches but simply not out-of-bounds and stuff.
      When credit warp was discovered I believe it got its own category.
      Arguably it takes less skill to beat the game so quickly, but that doesn't include the hours of work figuring out the RAM states and how to trigger them.

I know I've been in community discussions before where things like this need to be discussed and while it does hurt in the short term to disqualify/adjust a run the fact of the matter is that if the runner is truly skilled in a game it doesn't diminish the talent they have and usually they can get their placement back quickly. Least it didn't turn out like most "caught speedrunner" vids where the guy caught quits speedrunning forever. Nice to see a "understandable have a nice day" kind of ending where they cleaned up the mistake.

    I love when an OOB speedrun is quite literally indistinguishable from an IB speedrun.

    When I saw the clip first I thought it was because of the fact that you could see out of bounds for the slightest fraction of a second when he goes through the closed door. The clip does show him as slightly to the right of other runs where they shoot against the wall with the door which could have caused that little hint of out of bounds. Which I'm surprised people haven't seen that IIRC.

    2:52, I mean some kind of "glitches" can metaphorically happen in non video games, in form of rule oversights, like in chess for a long time, the rules never specifying, making it technically legal, to have pawns turn into figures of your opponent, or the "Pam-Krabbé-Rochade".

    Imagine having an "in-bounds" speedrun limitation in a game literally called "Portal".
    (I get the ruling and stuff, just thought it was ironic.)
