    I just purchased the R5 and the 100-500mm lens. You've convinced me to get the teleconverter and I hope I achieve close to the results you have. Great video, thanks.

      Be careful. The new noise reduction in PS is so good, that it now makes a compelling argument against a X2 convertor. We can use the 100-500, crop and get great results

    First image at 1/20 speed is insane and genuinely amazed. Never imagined a zoom lens with 2x converter could give this good image at 1/20 second, new techs have become ridiculously good!

    I love this video and it really shows me how I should try going far lower shutter speeds with my lens+ convertor combo.

    Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have just recently acquired this same gear but I have a lot to learn. I am absolutely amazed at the sharpness you have been able to get and the information showing the settings is a great learning tool.

    I think you could bump up that ISO a lot more and the shutter speed and get sharper results.

    Barry, absolutely gobsmacked and WOW you should blow your own trumpet mate, you've done an incredibly impressive job here getting over to us how this combo is just a top notch jaw dropping piece of kit. As for your photos and video, I had to keep pausing and re playing... out of this world.
    I have an R6 MKII and the 100 to 500 as well and now have a question. With a simple decision of ordering the x2, should I trade my R6 MKII for the R5 for better resolution... I guess I'll take some test shots and then decide. Barry, thank you millions

      Thank you. One thing to consider is that given the superb AI noise suppression in PS, the iso can be increased considerably at little,or no cost

    This is an excellent video, thank you. I was looking for a video like this for the last few weeks or so, as I am very interested in getting the 2x for 4K video slo motion footage more so than stills but the video has really changed my perceived opinion of image sharpness with the 2x.
    Thank you for creating and sharing the video.

    Thanks for the video. I own the 600mm f4 II and it’s phenomenal as you can expect. I am looking for something more mobile though and your video really proved how great the quality is of this lens, especially with the 2x. Amazing. I may need to sell my 100-400 for this. Thanks again.

    Enjoyed your video. It’s the first one I’ve ever seen. It was very informative, as I’m thinking of stepping up to the R5 with the 100 to 500 lens.
    Currently I use the 90 D with a 100 400 and the 1.4 extender, all the latest versions. When I use the extender on the 90 D with the 100 400, it limits my focusing pixels. I believe another advantage to using the mirrorless sensor is that it will not limit your focusing pixels on the sensor when using the extender. I’m told this is even true if I use my 100 to 400 with an EF1.4 extender on the R5 using an adapter.
    This idea about being able to use an extender and retain all of the focusing pixels would be yet another advantage to your set up. Thanks again.

    Hi Barry, I love your videos! Very professional and clear to understand!! I've just brought the x2 R5 Extender and is a wonderful thing to take closer photos of wildlife but I've noticed that I struggle to track birds in flight. I've started to use the 2x extender today on the R5 EOS and 100-500 lense... Could you please give me couple of suggestions? Thanks Sofia

    • @BarryBeckhamVideos
      @BarryBeckhamVideos  2 роки тому

      I can’t really offer much advice. There is always a point where you may be better off with the straight 100-500 and crop in rather than track with the extender. There are so many variables. How fast is the bird, how big is it in the frame, or I could say small. Is it flying left to right at speed etc etc.

      Cheers for your reply 😊 in my case I am practicing with cormorants, the subjects are about 100 meters away, the bird occupies sometimes a quarter of the frame or more. I will try to practice more and take the x2 Extender on and of to see which works better. Cheers 😊

      Well, I’m 72 years old and probably not as stable as those younger than me, but even I can manage to hand hold the 100-500 + Extender. The IBIS and Lens Stabilisation makes a lot of difference

    I wonder if shots like these would be possible when using the R6 with only 20MP since cropping is going to be less of an option. Great shots!

    I have not had the best experience with the 2X convertor and 100-500mm lens. Other than tripod shots of the moon and such. But yours came out nice, so it must be my skills (lack of). Generally speaking though I either get Dark or Blurry! In some cases I was getting a better final image 2x cropping a 500mm image (without the convertor on) than 1000mm.

    • @BarryBeckhamVideos
      @BarryBeckhamVideos  3 роки тому +1

      Well, that is a valid point, why zoom in and risk camera shake and DOF issues when you can crop? I simply choose not to crop, it’s what drives me, but you’ll need that iso up, because the stabilisation will help at the camera end, but not the movement of the subject. Not sure I would that successful with birds in flight with the X2. That , may be stretching things a bit too far, but I’ll give it a go when the opportunity arises

    • @timdaugherty7612

      @@BarryBeckhamVideos My sense is I just need to experiment with it more. Slapping that X2 on takes some of the "sure-thing" out of the 100-500 and R5. I've got some fun lunar photography out of it though.

      @@timdaugherty7612 As in all things, you have to make a judgement to when it’s beneficial to use the two bits of kit together. Most of the time, probably not, but it’s a personal call

    • @BarryBeckhamVideos
      @BarryBeckhamVideos  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t use filters at all apart from a polariser occasionally. I see no benefit to graduated filters and neutral density filters . Especially neutral density filters that seem to be used on ever second photo these days and are already boring

    Fascinating video. I wonder how the 2x EF converter with the 100-400 II would compare on an R5 or R6. I use a 7D2 with the 100-400 and have been hoping that the fabled R7 will appear. But if it does not, an R6 and the 2x converter might be a good alternative.

    I thought diffraction was supposed to kill any hope of sharp images with a 45MP sensor and narrow f-stops. What’s up with that?

    • @BarryBeckhamVideos
      @BarryBeckhamVideos  2 роки тому +2
