    LOCATION: I-5 between J St & L St
    AREA/CITY: Chula Vista
    DETAILS:
    Due to yesterday’s major incident (see: • Chula Vista: 14 Vehicl... ) the I-5 southbound and northbound lanes will be closed, as will the MTS Trolley lines.
    Power lines must be run across the interstate from Bay Blvd to the west to Colorado St to the east. SDG&E crews have been waiting to start work since 1:00 a.m., but the CHP and CalTrans keep delaying them. They were told the closures should start around 10:00 am.
    Bayfront Charter High School canceled their summer classes and a special event today due to no power. A total of 113 homes have been without power for over 24 hours, with no air conditioning and food spoiling in their refrigerators.
    CHP CAD:

    • @warpedweirdo
      @warpedweirdo 5 днів тому

      @@ExidusElectric Oh yeah, SDG&E is rolling in the dough and eager to spend all that money they've extorted from us on making things safer and reliable. Expense is ALWAYS an issue for business, even when their coffers are full.
      SDG&E isn't a charity, and just about every dollar they spend on improving infrastructure ultimately comes out of the pockets of rate-payers. SDG&E is a monopoly but the rates they're permitted to charge are limited by the government. So, if SDG&E wants to line their pockets they need to scrimp somewhere. An easy place to scrimp is infrastructure improvements.
      A cynical person might believe things work like this:
      SDG&E: Yo, we need to hike rates to pay for infrastructure repair and improvements! How does 50% sound?
      Overlords: Uh, rate payers won't stand for that, and neither will we! You can only do 5%.
      SDG&E: Fine, but you're asking for it!
      Proceeds to hike rates 5%, 1% is actually spent on infrastructure, 2% on liabilities for burning vast swaths of San Diego to the ground years ago, and the rest goes into the pockets of executives.
      5 years later...
      SDG&E: Yo, the grid's in critical condition because we don't have the funds to make improvements, because you didn't let us hike rates as high as we proposed! We need another rate hike to address the situation. 50%!
      Overlords: No, you'll just have to make do with 25%.
      SDG&E: Fine.
      Repeat...

    • @warpedweirdo
      @warpedweirdo 5 днів тому

      @@ExidusElectric SDG&E is a greedy business, not a benevolent charity. Burying power lines is expensive, maintaining old telephone poles less so, even though they're occasionally hit by cars. Why improve infrastructure when you can line executive pockets instead?

    What a shitshow it looks like they need to put a line to slide a pulley like most utilities do on telephone lines so there's a bare minimum interruption or disruption of traffic. But SDG&E is playing it safe by using contractors to pull the line then they hook it up! So if something goes wrong they blame the contractor and get to bill the public for repairs for twice as much for the work that they could do themselves! 😂
