A male Pit Bull/ Bulldog? was on the loose in the neighborhood and at Clay Park. A man & his wife were with their 3 Schipperkes and a Golden Retriever in the park when the Pit Bull came and attacked one of their dogs. (a Schipperkers) The couple tried to save their dog, but it wasn’t until another man intervened and hit the dog with a dog toy (stick) that the Pit Bull released the other dog. The smaller dog was killed. It was 14 years old and the couple had rescued it 4 years ago from SD Humane Society.
The dog made his way to sit outside of an apartment complex. Police officers kept an eye on the dog when an SD Humane Society officer arrived. The officer approached the dog with a “Catch Pole”. The dog went for the attack on the officer and came with a foot of her as the police officers went to defend her. (Caught on Video).
More Humane Society officers arrived. After climbing to a 2nd story apartment, the SDHS officer was able to make entry and was able to put the “Catch Pole” rope around the dogs’ throat. The dog was very strong and was beginning to fight with the officer. Another officer came in with a “Catch Pole” and they were able to put the dog in the truck.
A male from the apartment complex told us he was attacked by the same dog earlier in the evening and the dog had bitten through his pants leg before he was able to get away. We were also told that by the owners of the dead dog, that a young boy across the street from the park had the Pit Bull chase him and his smaller dog. The Police and the SDHS will be looking for the owner of the dog.
The owner should be jailed and pay for all damages.
Unfortunately a human can't be locked up over an animal attacking another animal. But they can be sued. Because animals are considered property.
Life has no monetary value. The best the owner could do is a sincere apology to the owner of the victim dog.

There are laws stipulating that animals are considered property and thus have monetary value, the owner has full rights to press charges and sue for damages--
Also, due to the severity of the situation the owner could sue for monetary reparations considering the emotional and psychological damage that was inflicted indirectly by the pitbull's owner.

And so an emotional reparation in the form of a sincere apology would be considered far more valuable than money to the affected man.

All dogs are naturally aggressive if they feel threatened. That's why proper trainers are required.

Pit bulls should all be banned. when done in other countries dog bites and killing decrease by 80%. Their is a perverse desire by these psycho's that choose that breed over 100 other types of breeds. There is no reason to have one. Just like owning a wolf.
Not taking anything away from the couple who lost one of their but they had three of the dogs so were not left alone. That doesn't lessen the pain of losing a member but we don't want incorrect information floating around the ethernet.

The dog is way too aggressive at this point. It’s not going to end well. My heart goes out to the owner of the pup that was killed, I can’t even imagine him having to watch his baby die like that😢

I work as a mail man, have multiples encounter with pit bulls jumping fence, charging out through fence, it’s terrifying. Ptsd with dogs is being real. It’s sad these owners don’t care for others.

A while back I had to drive 15 minutes to a park to walk my dog for the same reason. No more pets for me but if I had one I'd have to do the same, it sucks

Carrying a gun in public would likely get you in prison or felony charges. Especially if he did fire it in public. Getting a concealed permit is already extremely difficult, especially in blue states. Terrible advice sir. Absolutely terrible. Instead how about recommending he carried a can of pepper spray? Non lethal and an attacking dog would immediately flee after getting sprayed, especially since they have a much stronger sense of smell compared to humans.
A can of pepper spray would repel any large dog that approaches, but please don’t actually try to carry a gun in public. 🙂

Wife and I been walking our Huskies for 25 years and always leashed. Can't count the number of times a stray dog has ambushed us and bit our dogs. Some people shouldn't have dogs or kids for that matter!!

So sad, that the gentleman lost his black dog, but I also felt sad for this pitbull. I saw that he was scared. And nobody, saying to him, his owner, what to do.

He shouldn't have been a stray and should have had a strong owner. Do admit, I am also scared of those big dogs. How can you trust them fully. That is what happens when there are large dogs in a city. The owners cannot control them and do not have the space of the dogs to run free.

Time for a dose of reality . . I work for Animal Control in Dallas / Ft. Worth 5 days a week, some dogs are simply beyond help, granted they are a minor percentage. Their behavior is so engrained it becomes very difficult to correct and most people do not have the mental and sometimes physical capability to correct. I handle a 60 dog 24 cat kennel single-handedly, so twice a day I spend time with each individual dog. I've come to realize the reality of the situation, most are neglected by lazy, irresponsible owners. Getting a dog DOES NOT mean drive a stake in the backyard and set out a bowl, petting for 1 minute as you arrive home from work exhausted . . . So let's cut to the chase, if you do not plan on spending time with your animal, properly caring for, feeding a proper diet $$, vet care and disciplining it PLEASE DO NOT GET ONE!!! Save the dog a life of misery and the people that have to clean up your passive, uncaring train wreck a break and get a goldfish.

But you're not "animal control" be upfront about it. You're DOG control. Here's another problem. If these dogs demand this kind dedication why is it so easy to get one? Pitbulls are practically given away by animal shelters. Most of them will waive the fee and give the mutt all it's shots. Really there's only one kind of shot the mutts need. The 9mm variety.

my mom was attacked by a pitbull back in 2016 and miraculously survived after being hospitalized for months and is now disabled bc of it, ever since then I've been terrified of that breed.

I think owners of STRONG dogs, should always keep on a leash and possibly all dogs should have a muzzle on mouth, when In public. I know it’s a little extreme BUT some people actually use them and it’s really not hurting the dog. Although, for muzzle to work, all dogs must wear them. Otherwise, some dogs will get attacked and can’t defend. My cat got attacked on my doorstep by aggressive dog. That was horrible. My last dog got badly attacked and my nee dog has come close. Actually, I witnessed police shoot and kill 2 dogs, last Sunday and it was shocking. Well, I was about 15meters away, thankfully, but as soon as police started shooting, my dog got scared and tried to run in to main road. I just took him straight home. 2 dogs killed a sweet small dog , in my local park, last summer. Then police shooting dangerous dogs last Sunday and I just feel a nervous wreck, when walking my dog. He isn’t aggressive and can’t defend himself. I’ll admit that I’m not that Brave BUT I love my dog so much that I will do anything to protect him. I’m not usually worried about attack but after seeing an attack happen, hearing about dogs getting killed, etc, I’m always on edge, for some time.
That's one dogs actions not all of thebreeds actions. Pitties can be the sweetest things if taught right. Liek for example if you go the a shelter you'll see PLENTY of sweet pitties! They are an incredible breed.

I saw a dog go after my neighbor and knocked the crap out of it with a baseball bat. I saved the day and was charged with animal abuse and sued by the owner. My neighbor got 28 stitches and a tetanus shot.
The owner isn't there if not there's no need cops comes. Just told the owner locked up the dog.

We had a pitbull dog attacking a small dog that an old man was walking down the street. Dad ran out there with my shotgun and killed that pitbull with a point blank shot through the heart and both lungs. That pitbull attacked another dog just before all of this and 2 women were beating the pitbull over the head with a stick and a brick and the pitbull just ignored them. Then it went after the mailman and the mailman maced the dog. That stopped it's charge at the mailman, but it then went after the small dog. Luckily I had just gotten back from shooting and my shotgun was just inside the front door. Dad finally stopped that stupid dog.
Hate that it had to happen like this, but I'd say it was the right thing to do. It sounds like that pit was far past the point of help.

Some breeds should have a certification/license you need before owning one. That dog was like a shotgun on 4 legs...should not be out wandering around. Owner needs to pay. Either with jail time or $$$.

And yes those little dogs should be on leashes as well. I agree that there are no bad dogs just bad owners. It's just some breeds have the potential to kill that others don't.

Wildlife veterinarians face lions and tigers and bears without harming a hair on their heads in order to
Protect and to Serve them. They use tranquilizer darts. The police do not use tranquilizer darts because they are trained only to injure and kill. They are uniformed thugs. To be a cop you train for six weeks. To be a baker you train for 2 years. 4-5 years to be a machinist. Veterinarians 6-8 years. The female cop with the noose was not even wearing protective gloves. They do not know how to handle the situation except to kill. And that's OK with most of people on this page because they are into murder and enjoy finding any excuse to advocate and applaud murder.

@@redlisab I feel that killing animals as a first resort is wrong. There are all kinds of videos of dog trainers approaching snarling dogs and taming them in 2 minutes. The police should use tranquilizer darts for humans instead of tasers ... could be a cocktail of opiates, sleep inducing medication ... and little dmt perhaps. These could issued to individual adult citizens to be used as police-tranquilizers by choke hold bystanders as well

Banning the breed would fix many a thing. I agree with you about tranquilizer darts, but I think they should use them on animals mostly. The police use dangerous dogs against people too, I disagree with that. But I don't know if tranquilizer darts on people would always work, especially if the person was armed with a loaded weapon. However, if the dog is dangerous enough to kill, there should be no hesitation to kill it if it threatens again.

@@CoExist64 lol, pits have a high prey drive, it’s genetic. Nobody trains their dogs to kill other dogs. And not all dog breeds see small dogs as prey. I’ve seen pits with great owners attack small children and other dogs, it’s just their temperament, deal with it.

Grow up! It's not a thing, it's a dog! Apart from the fact that Pitbull is a wonderful breed, a lot of people have it and have never had a problem because they know how to raise, train and have RESPONSIBILITY, something that most people don't have, unfortunately and not just with Pitbull, these dogs need serious care and are not for everyone, they They did RIGHT AND THEY WERE HUMAN, unlike you and what you say, the dog can be trained and go to a family that really cares for it and doesn't leave it loose, instead of blaming an irrational being because you don't blame the person responsible who is rational and Don't take care of the animal? Went to look at a house with a real estate agent years ago, beautiful home. As soon as he was showing us the backyard we ran back in terrified, 2 pit bulls jumped their back fence into the yard we were in and ran after us, growling and barking. Needless to say, we passed up that house and understood why the owner was selling it. Hell no

No one should have to endure seeing their beloved companion of many years spend their last moments is terror, pain, and confusion, looking to you to make it stop while they are mauled, torn and eviscerated. It's truly horrifying. I can't go for a walk with my dog in my neighborhood anymore because of a couple of pit bulls who basically dominate the entire neighborhood, because if they get out, and they often do, they'll chase and tear apart anything that moves. The owners aren't "bad owners", the neighborhood is middle class with tranquil, tree-lined sidewalks that hardly anyone walks on anymore, and the dogs are are healthy, loved, and have never been abused. But they can scale the 7' fence that's supposed to contain them when they get excited enough, and what excites them is anything that moves. It's a good time to them. So they see a cat, they're scaling that fence. They see you walking your dog, they scale the fence. It will take someone's child being mauled to death before the city does anything about it. I keep a loaded shotgun by the door.
A lot of people who get pit bulls don’t take their extreme prey drive and don’t train them. These dogs are bred to be aggressive and people don’t get that. These dogs aren’t meant for pets. They are working dogs meant for hunting.

I no longer can walk public parks, especially on the wooded trails because of stray pit bulls. They come out of the woods and you almost faint from fear. I have two friends that were cornered in the park, and stood there like pieces of stone until Animal Control showed up 45 minutes later. It's gotten so bad lately with people and these vicious dogs, you can't even enjoy a park walk anymore. My dog walks beside me, quietly, but I was even fearing for his safety should one of these pits turn aggressive. Try to ban these dogs from a park and there's an uprising of people saying they're great dogs. If they're so great, keep them at home where you can admire them 24 hrs a day, do not let them in a public park. Do we all have to wait around until our dogs, or somebody's child, or anybody park walking or jogging gets killed before something is done here? Tired of hearing from their owners how sweet they are. Keep your sweet dogs on your own property, you're ruining everybody's park experience, and there's always some Pit owner that can't control their dog, or is walking the dog on a spike collar. If your dog isn't socialized, I don't care what breed, stay out of public places.

That’s not always true the dog can be raised without any sort of aggressive training or even playing tug but sometimes a dog can become aggressive towards another dog or cat, even cattle or sometimes towards humans.

2/3 of all pitbull encounters that I had are always negative. The damn pitbulls are just too aggressive and wants to attack me everywhere I go in most cities I go to. I have raised a few pitbulls. Not one was aggressive. My best raises Doberman Pinchers. None of hers was aggressive either. And people still act like those are an aggressive breed.
I was attacked a few years ago in my apartment complex. I had to walk past a guy with a pit on a leash, I thought it was fine, dog seemed mellow. As soon as I walked past, the dog lunged, owner lost hold of the leash, and the pit knocked me down from behind, biting at my clothes, trying to bite the back of my neck. The owner was very quick wrestling the dog off and grabbed it by the collar and dragged it away. He disappeared into an apartment as fast as he could to avoid anyone seeing. I just kind of got up and sat there in shock, I wasn't seriously injured but I went back home and reported it to the apartment manager. Pitbulls apparently aren't even supposed to be on the property due to several incidents in the past. I am absolutely terrified of pitbulls now, even though I really try to avoid being near any pitbulls, there's just nothing you can do if someone has one that they can't control. And most people can't control them. My cousin was also attacked by the family dog (a pitbull) as a child and she was permanently disfigured. My ex boyfriend had a pitbull that killed a neighbors dog. These pitbulls all had "friendly" temperaments and no indication that they were aggressive. Until they suddenly were aggressive.

Not all pit bulls are bad though. They were bred to fight, but they have since been bred for other purposes as well. Not all pits are like that, even if all the ones you have ever known are/were aggressive. You have not met every pit bull. Many pit bulls are actually very sweet, kind, friendly and loving dogs. Some pit bulls have even saved the lives of people and dogs, worked with children, been therapy dogs and worked in other jobs that help people. It’s important not to judge all dogs of any breed/type as aggressive. It’s important not to generalise or discriminate any sentient being based on type or group.

I defended myself from a pit-type dog a month ago while jogging on a dirt road. Of the 5 incidences I've had jogging in the last 5 yrs, FOUR have been pit-types. I used to think they were ok, but no longer. This latest incident sealed the deal.

As devastating as it is for the loss of this dog, I feel so sad for pitbulls. The pitbull breed never chose to be the way that humans have decided to breed them. Humans have set them up for a bed life and bad reputation to begin with. I sure do. I feel terrible for that poor little dog. I would advise all dog owner to carry something defensive just for situations like this. Be it a can of pepper spray, a nice big knife, a club of some sort like a kids metal ball bat they are around 2.5 ft long or if you not someplace like Californication carry a gun. There are also some new self defense tools like a whip which is about 2 feet long of 1/4 in steel cable with a small approx 1/2 in solid metal end that can really put hurt on something. As an ex-cop and owner of "serious dogs" but well trained, well socialized and always under control, I see everyday owners of little defenseless dogs walking around like nothing can happen, with their head in the clouds, they need to realize that it is their job to protect their little buddies. I have told numerous owners always carry pepper spray or something to protect your dog, this could just have easily been a coyote attack, I've seen those. As an ex-cop can tell you when seconds count, we cops are only a few minutes away.

I remember this one owner thought it was funny his dog was attacking another, the owner came out with a bat said call your dog off he wouldn't just laughing, the other owner hit the dog with a bat right in the ribs dog still wouldn't let go finally he tried calling his dog off dog still wouldn't let go, so the other owner hit the dog 3 more times and good hits finally the dog let go and limped away the other owner was pissed saying "why you hit my dog?", the other owner replied "why were you just laughing and not calling off your dog when I asked?" Idk how the dog that got hit was doing but the other dog was bloodied around its neck pretty bad, I hear it survived some ppl should not own dogs.

This is the result of pretending that PBT dogs aren't dangerous. Look at how much resources were needed for this situation, the life lost, and how much worse this could have been. These dogs are dangerous and should be regulated, full stop.
Watching this video, all the scene passes in front of me.
It was a year ago, I went for the daily walk with my dog. On our way back, there was this little fluffy dog outside his owner house, barking to us and coming towards us.
I immediately in loud voice told the dog to go back straight to its house.
OMG, what followed next it's something I will never ever be able to forget.
The owners owned two dogs, the fluffy dog and a pittbul. When I raised my voice to the small dog to go back, an aggressive pittbul came out of the yard gate, running towards my dog and myself. He attacked my dog, biting him all over his body, I tried to pull my dog without success, the pittbul continued biting my dog, he attacked me down to the pavement, I screamed for help but unfortunately nobody dared to pull the pittbul.
It's a miracle, a gift from God that both my dog and me are alive. What saved my dog, was his leash. While poor dog was screaming of pain by the bites of pittbul, he managed to free himself from the leash and ran back to our house.
I was under shock and thought my dog went to a corner to die. With the help of some people to search for him, I finally found him to cuddle himself, being so scared, in a corner of our yard.
I got him straight to the vet and the vet told me we were very lucky to have survived!! Of course my dog had to go under stitches, but thank God he is alive and we go on with our lives.
Yet, since that day I'm scared of pittbulls!
So sorry dear, thank God your dog didn't die. God bless both of you

Sadly, that pit needs to be destroyed and his owner prosecuted. This attack could have been easily avoided if the owner was a responsible dog owner. It’s a shame that gentleman lost his pup. RIP.

Are you aware of the critical attacks that have happened on several children in the past two weeks? If people want to be responsible, get another breed of dog, not one that has been bred for hundreds of years with the genetic code to kill. That's what a responsible person would do. There's other good breeds to own. You don't have to own Pit Bulls. It is YOU, people who own them that are the problem! Stop bringing these maulers into our neighborhoods.
Nah, totally unfair that dogs get killed for being aggressive, but child molesters don’t get the same. This is a clear example of human privilege. I’m sure if you can raise a pit bull from a puppy and spend a lot of time with training they can be wonderful dogs. Sadly most people don’t have the time to do that and this stuff happens. Still should not be killed. We don’t even kill ISIS members and they’re literally programmed human killing machines.

@@Northstar-59 It looks completely different. Look up real American pitbull terrier, they're the smaller ones not huge and muscular. Bullies are bigger and have bigger heads. Pit Bulls are medium sized dogs weighing about 30 to 70 pounds and stand about 18 to 22 inches at the shoulders, while American Bullies are more like 50 to 120 pounds.

I agree that the owner should be held responsible. I own a pit bull and he is FRIENDLY towards adults and children. A pit bull's demeanor is established by it's owner. Yes a pit bull has a bad reputation because of it's history as a breed developed for dog fighting and owners should be held to a higher responsibility because of this FACT!

Animal control didnt seem to know how to handle this one.
They knew what to do! You have to be extremely careful with a large vicious dog such as this one. I am taking care of my daughter's American Bully and he is extremely strong and difficult to handle in certain circumstances. They were just showing the proper caution needed to take care of the situation!
I've been an animal control officer for 13 years and this dog could have been caught in a couple min. Waste of resources here.
